Kallini: Ardat-Yakshi Monastery // nuns

The Nuns of Kallini Monastery are of every age, and dress modestly with slight design and color variations between cloaks and leggings. Every nun is expected to do her fair share of work, including teachers; the only Asari excluded from menial housework are the High Priestesses, who’s duties are more specific to upkeep of sacred spaces, scripture studies, and constant meditation.

Nuns sleep, exercise, and do housework in the same outfit, which they change out of to wash and spend the rest of the day in colorful frocks and simple leggings. These frocks are decorated with designs from ancient Asari artworks, specifically from those depicting The Enlightenment by The Goddess.

Nuns spend most of their day studying scriptures and other races, meditating, doing physical exercises and attending mass performed by the High Priestesses both in the morning after housework and at night before bed. Nuns are humble, dress modestly, and are allowed no shoes or jewelry; The palms and soles of the feet are to remain uncovered at all times.

Kallini: Ardat-Yakshi Monastery // high priestesses

Considered to be closer to The Goddess than any other inhabitants of the Monastery, the high priestess is the hardest level to reach at the monestary and requires the most sacrifice.

All priestesses are required to take a vow of sightlessness upon entering their priesthood, and can never look upon another living creature ever again, as they not only have vowed celibacy, but a complete lack of eye-to-eye contact with any other person of any other race. The priestesses may remove their eye covers only in privacy so that they can study and tend to their chores, although many do not and may opt for a form of physical reading similar to human braille.

Although dressed the least colorfully, the high priestesses are the only members of the monestary to be allowed jewelry, often a single long chain made out of any metal although gold is the most common. The chains are specific to each priestess and have a certain number of larger links to smaller ones, and act much like prayer beads in many human religions.

Kallini: Ardat-Yakshi Monastery // teachers

Teachers at the Kallini Monastery are required to do the same housework as all other nuns, as well as the required upkeep of the learning spaces. They wear long loose clothing with multiple layers, including leggings, billowy pants, a large cloak, and a number of colored scarves dedicating which subject they are most profficient in. For example a blue scarf may mean that teacher specializes in biotics, a red may mean krogan studies, green for meditation, and so on.

Teachers are mainly Matrons and Matriarchs, although on rare occasions, depending on how long she has lived at the Monastery and how dedicated to the Priesthood she is, a Maiden might also be an instructor of some kind.

Teachers, while not as rare as High Priestesses, are still outnumbered by the amount of nuns living at Kallini, and work especially hard to ensure their pupils are well trained and in control of their powers. Depending on the subject their class sizes can vary from very few to over forty pupils at any given time. Those who focus on more particular studies, such as race-specific curriculum, might have only five or six pupils at a time, while those who guide the nuns through meditation, physical exercise, or Asari cultural studies tend to have the much larger classes, sometimes which have teachers and teacher’s assistants. (TA’s are only nuns who have declared their intent to become teachers and eventually priestesses)
