Tonight, I will be showing new works from my project, BLACKNESS, at NYU. Words can not express how grateful I am for this opportunity. I want to take the time out to thank everyone who has given me their time and consent to photograph them for this project.  This project will continue as long as I live and I am looking forward to moments and people I will meet in the future.  BLACKNESS has allowed me to connect with so many beautiful human beings.  If you are in New York tonight, feel free to stop by.  I would love to meet you.  Thank you and I love ya’ll.

This was more than a celebration of my return around the sun… more than a celebration of my one year of being a self made man.. this was about community and bringing together amazing artists who inspire me every day.  Some have just entered my life and others have been in my life for a very long time.  Some folks weren’t caught because they had left earlier.  Thank you for coming by and celebrating LIFE. This is going to continue to be a beautiful ride.  So much love.

Maachew Bentley * B LA CK NESS * . Brooklyn, NY (Kale Kastle) . 2013

heavy is the head that wears the crown..

I lost a childhood friend last week.  I’ve lost a lot of people i’ve known during these last few months.  During this difficult process, I’ve invested so much energy into *B LA CK NESS* and HLYLND.  It hasn’t mattered how I’ve felt over the past couple weeks.  In some cases there were times when I should of canceled a shoot but my pride would never allow that to happen.  See, I’ve sat people down in my living room and have broken down these two projects that they would later be a part of.  Every single day, the language changes..or, evolves.  This is one of the most important things I have EVER done for myself, and you.  Everything that I feel is a part of this process.. everything you feel is a part of the progression, because that is what makes it beautiful.  There is so much more to this. There is so much to explain.  However, I just want to thank everyone who has been a part of these two very important projects so far..

September 1st, I moved back to Brooklyn and it has been a beautiful experience.  I have amazing roommates who are insanely beautiful and creative.  I have been working non-stop on projects that I will be focused on throughout the winter.  I have been MIA on the internet, but I haven’t been MIA in the universe.  I’ve been using this time to silently create.  See ya’ll soon.
