kai's fancasts

(Finally) TLC Fancast

WOWZER! I think I put WAY too much energy into this. Like, 2 months worth of energy into this. I WANTED IT TO BE PERFECT OKAY? So, without further ado, here is my TLC fancast (To the best I was able to find…)

Cinder! Cinder gives me a lot of grief. I think its because she’s my bby and its always hard to cast a real person as my favorite fictional character, but I honestly think EITHER Courtney Eaton or Naomi Scott would be great. (But I really love Naomi Scott)

Kai: I FOUND THE PERFECT LIL FLUFF. OH LORD. Mario Maurer.

Scarlet! This actress was suggested by @alunarrevolutionary (Thanks fam) and I LOOVVEEE her. If she had longer hair, aye. SO, my scarlet is Shannon Purser

Wolf! Wolf also gives me the struggles. I needed someone who could play a lil’ fluff when with Scar, but who was also, well, Wolf. I think Marlon Teixeira does both :)

CRESS! MY SECOND BBY. My opinion for her changes a lot, but I really like Dove Cameron. She’s super cute and has a very cress feel to her.  (Even though she’s not the best choice acting wise..?)

THORNE. I love Sam Claflin. I keep trying to find others. And I keep coming back to Sam. (Though he might be too old… sigh) But honestly…

Winter <3
Winter ALSO gives me the struggles. I want someone who has great hair, and dark enough skin, and is a good actress. My original girl was Alexandra Metz… I have yet to find someone I like more than her, despite her skin not being quite as dark as I wanted. But… Gah, I really just love her for Winter… xD

Jacin. I like Lucas Till, because he’s super hot but also can pull off the “I’m going to kill you with my glare” look to him. I feel it.

Iko! My 3rd bbbbbyyyyyy I LOVE KEKE PALMER. Y’all can fight me, but I think her whole acting personality, look, and voice completely fit.

Levana! I think Angelina Jolie basically has the role already. She’s a phenomenal actress, and I mean, GEEZ, she just looks so very Levana - like. Especially in this picture/gif. I have actually never pictured anyone else for Levana. Even when reading.

Alright! Theres my Fancast! Hope you liked it! Im glad I finally did it, lol. <3

I know I’ve talked about the Cresswell age gap a lot. I mentioned that it’s not illegal in most parts of the world (seriously, stop imposing American laws and norms to the rest of the world all the time - you don’t have to like the age gap but it just isn’t illegal), that their relationship isn’t sexual and hardly will be for a while and if I can suspend my disbelief when it comes to:

- a 16-year-old mechanic who only remembers 5 years of her life to become a capable queen and getting engaged at 18 while having met the guy a handful of times,

- a 23-year-old guy who has been trained to be a child soldier since age 11 with almost no damage to his mind and who falls in love with the first girl he talks to,

- or a 17-year-old girl who never seemed to have any political training of any kind become an equally capable ambassador just because people like her and who also never considered a guy other than her childhood sweetheart for her one relationship,

then ages in TLC, and YA in general, are hardly comparable to ages in our world. The same goes for Cress, despite the uneccessary infantilisation of her character the fandom seems so fond of. (I only picked Cinder, Wolf and Winter as a comparison because along with Cress, those four have the most “YA”-like experiences that makes it harder to compare their maturity to real-life people of the same age.)

[Btw: Most of the main characters didn’t go to school or had any previous relationships. For me, it seems weird to argue that only Cress should to go to school - not even college but a normal high school that would surely not challenge her genius enough  - and have her date other people when no one demands the same things from Cinder, Wolf, Jacin, Winter or Kai. If they can meet their one true love during the revolution and marry them later on without taking breaks, then so can Cress. If I apply-real-life standards to a sci-fi YA story then it would have to go for all characters. But either all of them are allowed find their one true love and stay with them forever or they all need to “grow” first.]

But I feel one of the biggest issues with the age gap discourse is that almost no one posts age-appropriate fancasts. It’s obviously easier to find cool images of established actors or models but it definitely distorts the images we have of the characters.

Sure if you put an actress who is around 16-years-old:

(Let’s take Elle Fanning at age 16)

And use 30-year-old Sam Claflin or Garrett Hedlund (33) in the same fancast it of course looks like a super inappropriate age gap:

Or if people use Zac Efron, they usually pick pics where he is at his current age, 29:

(I’ve seen Diego Luna at age 37, Chris Wood (29) or Diego Boneta at age 26 too - hardly anyone who is Thorne’s actual age, +/- one year).

As for Cress, I’ve seen people fancast girls as young as 13-year-old (like AnnaSophia Robb from “Bridge to Terabithia):

When for all intents and purposes Cress should look like Elle Fanning or her:

(That’s some instagram girl which I often see used as a Cress fancast from the year 2014 where she was 15/16 - I’ve looked through her instagram and only used pictures from 2014 when she was 16 even though she’s 19 or 20 now. You can look up Jacy Jordan/jacykjordan if you want to verify her birthday and dates she posted those pics. But yes, that’s a 16-year-old girl. A teenager, not a child.)

Compared to this guy:

(Froy Gutierrez, age 19. Oh no, a year younger than Thorne. Still a whole lot closer to what Thorne would look like than Claflin, Hedlund, or other fancast who are usually 25+ at least. Could anyone look more like canonThorne? I don’t think so. He’s the age, he has the looks, hey, he is even half-Mexican. My personal favourite for canonThorne.)

Or coming back to Zac Efron (not my pick but I use casts I’ve seen floating around a lot), you would have to back as far as 2008 to have him at the right age for Thorne (and I used a more flattering picture of him where he doesn’t have that weird Justin-Bieber hairstyle):

(That was from a High School Musical press conference in 2008. The same year he made the movie “17 again”. If you envision Thorne as Zac Efron, in “17 Again” he was 21, one year older than Thorne but still, he would be more appropriate than the way he looks now. Even if one likes current Zac Efron more, it just unnecessarily makes the Cresswell age gap seem wider than it is.)

Or you know what? Let’s include “Bieber Efron” too (after all, it’s not my fault he had that hairstyle):

(21-year-old Zac Efron. See how different he looks from his older counterpart? Or from Claflin and Hedlund for that matter? Thorne wouldn’t look like a grown man at 30. That obviously goes for all the characters but picking and older Kai, Wolf or Jacin never causes the same outcry as it does when it comes to Cresswell)

Now, compare this (16-year-old girl with guys almost twice their age):

To this (16-year-old girls with 20-year-old boys, the way it is in canon):

I feel this puts the whole thing into perspective. We’re not talking about a child or pre-teen with a thirty-year-old dude. If you saw Jacy and Froy or Elle and Zac from the lower pic walking down the street, hardly anyone would consider it inappropriate. If you use fancasts where they are the actual ages they have in canon, Cress and Thorne’s age gap doesn’t seem as wide as people make it out to be.

Basically, I feel there’s a distorted image in the fandom of how child-like Cress and how mature Thorne are when that’s just not the case. One doesn’t have to like the age gap or the ship but the reason why it doesn’t matter to so many people is because we don’t see Thorne as a grown-up man, nor Cress as an immature child. Putting the “legality” on it makes it US-centric and TLC is not US- centric. More importantly, for me and many other fans, mutual respect, trust and equality is a given in their relationship, as we have seen time and time again from canon.

SIX OF CROWS:

The Ice Court had been built to withstand an onslaught of armies, assassins, Grisha, and spies. When Inej said as much to Kaz, he simply replied, “But it hasn’t been built to keep us out.”

His confidence unnerved her. “What makes you think we can do this? There will be other teams out there, trained soldiers and spies, people with years of experience.”

“This isn’t a job for trained soldiers and spies. It’s a job for thugs and thieves.”

“I’m sure I’ll feel much more grateful when I find a guy who thinks complex wiring in a girl is a turn-on.”

–Cinder, by Marissa Meyers

Paris Berelc as Cinder and Kim Jongin as Kai are my personal fancasts for any screen adaptations of The Lunar Chronicles bc theyre cute and accurate to the book’s descriptions of the characters.

A compilation of some people who I imagine Kai as. Kai is described as Asian, shaggy/straight black hair, slender/lanky, 18, 5′11″, sharp facial features, admirable lips.

(And no, none of the above are Chinese. Sorry, haven’t found a good kai-fancast yet who is Chinese) :(

He was the fantasy of every girl in the country. He was so far out of her realm, her world, that she should have stopped thinking about him the second the door had closed. Should stop thinking about him immediately. Should never think about him again, except maybe as a client - and her prince.

And yet, the memory of his fingers against her skin refused to fade.

TLC Fancast!

Cinder:

My choice for Cinder changes a lot, but currently it’s Shay Mitchell

Kai:

Harry Shum Jr. He is my perfect Kai. Like, times 100.

Scarlet:

I’m really loving the idea of Holland Roden! While she doesn’t cover ALL my Scarlet needs, I do like her!

Wolf:

Marlon Teixeira I think would be a good Wolf. Im not 100% on him, but I haven’t found anyone I like more yet!

Cress:

Anna-Sophia Robb has been in my head since I first started reading about my little moon child.  I just think she’s so adorable and very VERY Cress-like.

Thorne:

Sam Claflin ; I know a lot of people disagree but I keep coming back to this picture and thinking, yeah. That’s my Thorne.

Winter:

Alexandra Metz She actually played Rapunzel, which I find amusing, but she’s very good at the “I’m in distress but also very strong” role. I think she’d make a GREAT Winter!

Jacin:

Alex Pettyfer! I really like his hair and jaw, and I think he would do well.

Kohn Torin:

Daniel Dae Kim! Ever since Lost, I’ve loved him! I think he would very excellently play Torin, with the serious adviser, and kind friend to Kai.

Iko:

I actually love Keke Palmer! She’s spunky and young, and has a great smile! I think she would do great!

And last but not least, the Queen herself.

Levana:

Angelina Jolie! I know this is sorta stereo typical,, but she has that very edgy I-could-kill-you-with-a-glance look, and I just totally see it. (And she’s flawless.)

history meme: 05/07 pairings | Antoine Lavoisier and Marie-Anne Paulze
[fancast: Adrien Brody & Hilary Swank]

In 1761, when she was only 3, Marie-Anne’s mother died. Her father placed her in a convent where she received her formal education. There she forged her character, with a special interest in science and drawing. At 13, she received a marriage proposal from a man of 50. To thwart the marriage, her father made an offer to Antoine Lavoisier, one of his colleagues to ask for his daughter’s hand instead. Lavoisier accepted the proposition, and he and Marie-Anne were married on 16 December 1771.
Now considered as the Father of Modern Chemistry, Lavoisier’s interest in chemistry started in childhood and blossomed during his years of education. After his marriage, with the new financial security, he was now able to construct a state-of-the-art chemistry laboratory.
Marie-Anne soon became interested in his scientific research and began to actively participate in her husband’s laboratory work. As her interest developed, Antoine gave her formal training in the field. The Lavoisiers spent most of their time together in the laboratory, working as a team conducting research on many fronts. She translated documents about chemistry from English to French to keep her husband abreast of current developments in chemistry. In fact, the majority of the research effort put forth in the laboratory was actually a joint effort of the couple, with Marie-Anne mainly playing the role of laboratory assistant. She accompanied Lavoisier in his lab during the day, making entries into his lab notebooks and sketching diagrams of his experimental designs. The training she had received from the painter David allowed her to accurately and precisely draw experimental apparatuses, which ultimately helped many of Lavoisier’s contemporaries to understand his methods and results. Together, the Lavoisiers rebuilt the field of chemistry.
The couple never had children. This fact may explain the exclusive devotion that united Marie-Anne and Antoine.
In 1794 Lavoisier, due to his prominent position in the Ferme-Générale as tax collector, was branded a traitor by French revolutionaries and imprisoned. Throughout his imprisonment Marie-Anne visited him regularly and fought for his release. She presented his case before Antoine Dupin, who was Lavoisier’s accuser. She told of her husband’s accomplishments as a scientist and his importance to the nation of France. Despite her efforts Lavoisier was tried, convicted of treason and executed on 8 May 1794 in Paris, at the age of 50.
After his death, Marie-Anne became bitter. She was thrown into bankruptcy following the new government’s confiscation of her money and seizing all of Lavoisier’s notebooks and laboratory equipment. Despite these obstacles, Marie-Anne organized the publication of Lavoisier’s final memoirs, a compilation of his papers and those of his colleagues demonstrating the principles of the new chemistry.
Marie-Anne eventually remarried, following a four-year courtship and engagement to Count Rumford. Rumford was one of the most well-known physicists at the time, but the marriage between the two was difficult and short-lived. Marie-Anne insisted throughout her life that she retain the last name of her first husband, demonstrating her undying devotion to him. She died suddenly in her home in Paris on 10 February 1836, at the age of 78.

Lunar Chronicles and Character's Race

There is a lot of argument over this and while I can’t officially clear it up, I can say that since the release of the first book, I’ve done extensive research and put a lot of thought  into the appearances and backgrounds of these characters for the sake of my art and my fancasts. While my opinion is just as valid as the next person’s (unless they argue that Cinder is white, in which case my opinion is more valid), I do feel like this list could at least help clear things up or explain the reasoning of myself and others. Most of these characters could arguably be of any race, this is just the most likely ethnicities. Mind you…it’ll be long, sorry.

Lunar Chronicles Movie Fancast

A while back an anon asked everyone’s fancasts and one of the admins suggested we each do our own (there are three of us). I honestly didn’t have a steady enough list of actors for each character (I’ll admit, I’m picky), but I recently “finalized” (I guess) my list. This is just the main cast, I might show my picks for minor characters in the future, but for now…

So there you have it, my personal Lunar Chronicles fancasts. I’m still a little iffy on Amandla for Winter. She’s accurate in terms of age, but at the same time I think she still looks a little young. Keke Plamer would probably be my second choice in that regard, or maybe Nathalie Emmanuel, I guess. If only Lupita Nyong'o were ten years younger. That being said, the rest are all pretty set for me. I think Avan Jogia would also make a good Wolf (or his brother, Ran, perhaps?) and Melissa Fumero would be nice as Sybil as well.

What do you think? Agree? Disagree? Post your own fancasts, we’d all love to see them!

I think when most of us  try to fancast Prince Kai, we forget abut the  sassy Asian Prince Chistopher Rupert from Cinderella 1997.

He fits the bill SO perfectly.
