Bright and early was the day when Bella woke up to her alarm. It was 8am. She ran to go get her friend up from her living room and sighed.
‘’Get your ass up before I leave you. And that’s going to hurt me more than it hurts you.’’ She groaned She darted to the bathroom first grabbing her toothbrush and brushing her teeth. Then she walked to her closet to find something to wear. She made a habit of always showering the night before since her friend was staying with her. Mainly because she took forever in the Bathroom’s in the morning.
‘’Can’t you wear something a teensy bit nicer? You never know who you’re going to meet today.’’ Bella turned to her friend. She was just wearing a pale pink shirt and washed out blue jeans. She glared.
‘’Can you suck my dick a teensy bit? I know who we’re meeting today and I’m not trying to impress them. If you don’t stop pestering me I swear I’ll leave the house in my bonnet.’’ She threatened as she pulled make-up out from her vanity, muttering under her breath the whole time. It never took long for Bella to get ready. And since she had gotten a blow out and a press she only had to slip off that silk black bonnet and take her bobby pins out of her hair.
‘’Is this a better outfit?’’ She asked her friend as she stepped out of her room with her bag on her shoulder. To which the other gave an approving wolf whistle.
‘’Yas, Boo! They’re not going to be able to keep their eyes off us.. Well. you.’’ She said. And Bella rolled her eyes as she grabbed her car keys. Not that she didn’t like this group. She did. But she could think Of a million other things she’d rather be doing. But she loved her friend so much. And She always wanted to work for celebrities. So this was a major start.
‘’You really think you’re not about to flirt with one of them. I mean, Hobi is mine but the others…’’
Bella turned the volume up on her radio. She would be a translator and anything else they wanted so long as Safiyah was left to her devices. It wasn’t in her interest to flirt with these guys and become a groupie. The drove along to the beat of throwback songs like Low by Flo Rida and Lose control by Missy Elliott. All the things that would have made her jump up and sweat out that perfect press if she were alone.
‘’Alright. Here we are.’’ She announced as they drove up to the run down out of the way building. It was totally inconspicuous and not at all dodgy. Who would guess that Celebrities were being housed here? Smart.
‘’Alright.’’ Bella grabbed her notes she prepared and put them in her bag.
‘’When we get in here.’’ She looked up into her friend’s eyes. Her friend who was older and taller than her, and glared. Turning on her mommy mode and crossing her slender, yet toned arms.
‘’You are no longer a Bangtan fangirl. You are a professional volunteer devoted to helping them out through this televised process. Understood.’’ Safiyah in return crossed her arms and smiled coyly.
‘’If I have to tone down my awkward excitement can you tone down your moodiness. You scare people away. You’re so small and cute but at times you can be so evil looking, Sheesh, Bell, Lighten up.’’ She said nudging her playfully.
‘’I’m a brown skin, I can’t lighten up.’’ She said, They both laughed at her on the spot response and head into the building.
Safiyah looked a little out of place standing behind her shorter friend shyly. Truth be told they were both really shy, Bella almost painfully so. But she sucked it up as she introduced herself to the korean staff and got the small badges they prepared with their names on it.
‘’Wow. I feel so official.’’ She commented clipping it to her belt loop and waiting for her next instruction.
‘’Ah yes. The girls who the other’s told us about. Nate and Tony are excited to have you guys on board and we are sure the boys will be grateful to your services.’’ Said a small grey haired man. He held an expensive looking camera in his hand. And waved the girls forward. ‘’We are going to have you come to our little green room for an interview before the boys get up.’’
Interview?! Bella glared at her friend as she followed the staff into the makeshift green room. They had been told to be a little quiet because the boys were sleeping.
They set up two chairs and instructed them to sit and Bella translated for Safiyah.
‘’Did you know we were getting interviewed and stuff like this?’’ She asked her friend lowly as the cameraman went to grab his spare mic. Safiyah shrugged her shoulders and tried to make herself seem like the symbol of innocence as she answered.
‘’I honestly had no idea!’’ She whispered back and then as if being triggered by a cue, they both sat erect in their seats as the cameraman came back.
‘’Welcome to The American Hustle Life Experience!’’ he said to them in english, his accent was hella thick and it made Bella smile a bit. He kind of reminded her of her dad. Spoke english perfectly but his accent wouldn’t go away.
‘’Please tell us your names and a brief description of what you do for a living.’’ Bella turned to her friend to tell her to go first. First she tried her intro in her bit of Korean she remembered and and the staff reacted with wide eyes and applauses. Then she went on to tell them that she was a photography major and her hometown.
Bella opted completely in Korean;
‘’Hi! My name is Bella and I’m an art major who specializes in dance and Theater. It’s nice be her helping out.’’ She explained. And then she was hit with the question.
‘’You must know a lot about Hip hop yes?’’ She felt a little taken aback by that. She tried to look past the fact that they might have only asked her that because she was black, but there was honestly no other excuse for her. She fought against her external reaction, knowing that her facial expressions always gave away her mood and smiled anyways.
‘’Ah. I actually do know a fair amount about Hip-hop, yes.’’ She answered giving a false smile into the lens but then refocusing her attention on the interviewer’s face. She found her focal point, Things you were supposed to do when performing, it made you appear more like a professional and less nervous than you actually were.
‘’And what does Hip hop mean to you?’’ They asked. Bella’s eyebrows raised and she thought about it for a few seconds.
‘’Hip hop… Well to me, When it’s good and uplifting. It can mean power, It’s culture and a way of life.’’ She fought to speak formally. So she imagined she was just speaking to a Teacher on Campus in Korea. It was easier like that. ‘’I use hip hop in some of my arts, Listening to lyrics and instrumentals and drawing down what I hear.’’ She explained and exhaled nervously. The staff looked content with her answer and smiled at her.
‘’Very beautiful. Thank you.’’ They told her.
‘’That was the coolest thing ever! I’ve seen you do pretty cool things but that was awesome, Bell.’’ Safiyah told her friend as they waited around. Staff wanted to also make sure they were looking good enough for the cameras, so they were hovering. By A lot.
She kept claiming that she was fine. If she wanted to be extra, she could have been extra. She was relieved when they finally retreated off to focus on whatever else they needed to do.
‘’Okay. The staff said they’ll be here soon. Okay. It’s almost time to meet your future husband.’’ She meant to sound more enthusiastic, But she was a little bored heavily sleepy.
‘’Bella you have to help me charm them! You have such cute dimples. Stop being so cold all the time.’’
‘“Don’t worry. I’ll be nice to your precious Bangtan Boys!’’ She hissed and closed her eyes again. She winced as there was a ridiculous amount of yelling on the other side of the building. What was it, 10am?
‘’I guess they’re waking the boys up.’’ Bella said Sarcastically in the form of a groan.
‘’And you have to be cute like you naturally are. What’s that thing called again? Cute flesh or cute face?’’ Bella groaned and shook her head fiercely.
‘’It’s called Aegyo and I am NOT going to do it.’’ She growled.
It was about 10:35 am when Tony’s tall figure crept up on them. Though she shouldn’t have been startled because of the yelling on the other side of the building. But she had found herself nodding off again, Honestly the girl coup sleep through a tornado if you would let her.
‘’Hey!!’’ Bella nearly jumped at the intrusion. She had her chin in the palm of her hand and was slowly nodding off again. Naturally. She was a little irritated. But if anything she knew that Tony would tell her to leave her attitude outside if he caught up on it. So she fixed her face at once and stared up with half conscious eyes.
‘’Hey, Uncle.’’ she greeted and introduced the tall man to her friend. No, Tony wasn’t really her uncle but he had been a friend of her mother’s for the longest. Both liked to play basketball, Both from Texas. And both had a deep passion for music.
‘’I was surprised when your mom told me Princess Homebody wanted to come help with a project as big as this.’’ He said to them. But then I figured you must have had some influence.’’ he started while jokingly patting her head. Safiyah smiled proudly.
‘’Har Har. I’m doing this for her. But lucky for you, I do like Korean music and I do like sharing culture. So I feel as if I can enjoy this.’’ She told them. But Tony crossed his arms and frowned. ‘’Then can you smile like you wanna enjoy this.’’ Bella bit the inside of her cheek and offered a small smile. It was totally and obviously fake, But Tony laughed.
‘“We’ll work on it.’’ He clapped his hands together and excitement was written all over his face.
‘’So! You guys ready to meet the boys?’’
