How do I really make sure to stick to an exercise regimin and clean diet over the summer, and not be sucked into the vortex of my bed, junk food, and the internet?

Look at it this way: Now that it’s summer, you have ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD to get in the best shape possible! You have time to actually go to the grocery store, pick out ingredients and make ballin’ meals. You have tons of time to put toward exercise without worrying about that paper you have to write or when class begins. Use the extra time to your advantage. I wish I had that much time now!

And if you’re the kind of person that needs it, set up a schedule and make a calendar. Write out what cool new meals you’re gonna try and plan when you’re going to exercise and what you’re going to do. That can help keep you on track.

Your curls are gorgeous! Mine are always so stringy! What's your routine?

Thank you! I use Charles Worthington hair healer leave-in conditioner (the PERFECT leave-in conditioner, and I’ve tried a ton), then one pump of Herbal Essences long-term relationship leave-in protector (which helps with frizzies but doesn’t make it stringy), and Garnier Fructis curl shaping spray gel (flexible). Once my hair is dry I scrunch it up to get rid of the stiffness from the spray gel but it continues to help it from frizzing up.

Hi! I have a question about calorie deficits...if I'm trying to lose weight does that mean I should be burning more calories than I eat every day? Because that just seems impossible! Do you have any advice on how to reach a deficit? Oh, and I have to add that you are a beautiful person inside and out!

Remember you’re already burning your BMR! Use this website to find out what that is, and your body is already burning that. For example, my BMR is around 1400 calories. So say I’m eating 1500 calories. I don’t have to work out for long enough to burn 1500 calories, my body has already burned 1400 just being alive. So I’d only have to burn an extra 100 calories walking around and doing daily things to burn 1500 calories that day and maintain my weight… which would not be hard. If I want to make a deficit, I can go run 2 miles in addition to my regular daily activities, and have around a 200 calorie deficit.

So it would be 1500(consumed) - 1400(BMR) - 300(extra walking and running) = -200

If my math was perfect, I would lose about a half pound a week doing just that. I hope that answers your question!

Should I start Insanity straight away, i'm a beginner and I don't do much exercise but I really want to lose weight within the next 4 months?

You can if you want to. It will be HARD. But if you keep going you’ll definitely see results! If you’d like to start with something easier try 30 Day Shred or Ripped in 30 with Jillian Michaels. :)

I'm 16 years old, 170 pounds and a size 12. If I started a sensible diet now would I be skinny enough to wear a bikini in time for the summer holidays or am I too late?

You can wear a bikini whenever you feel comfortable! I don’t know when that will be, and I don’t know you or your body so I can’t say… but what I do know is that eating well not only helps to lose weight and get fit, but increases confidence and happiness. And just think if you started now, how wonderful you’d feel no matter what you’re wearing!

I've been shrinking but my love handles won't go away. What can I do to help them shrink with everything else? Maybe stop eating bread? Because I eat toast and pb for breakfast each day...

If you’re losing fat, don’t fret! They will catch up. You just might naturally store fat there more than other places, and probably always will store more there. Remember you can’t spot reduce, but the more you get in shape and eat right, the more they’ll go away, along with the fat everywhere else. You don’t have to cut out bread… doing that won’t lead to your fat rearranging itself haha. Just make sure to work out and eat healthily!

Hi! I am having a really hard time losing my little stomach pooch even though I've been keeping a pretty clean diet, plus daily exercise. Any advice? :/

I’m really not sure… I need some more info! BUT remember it’s natural for women to have a little pooch. It helps protect our womanly parts haha. So that means it’s also REALLY hard to get rid of if that’s your goal.

To the anon wanting to lose3-5 pounds: if you don't have a gym membership, no problem! You can do plenty of bodyweight exercises to help you out! There are tons of variations, and you can find things around the house to use as free weights (curls using milk jugs, bench press using your bed frame..) good luck!

Exactly! ^

hey! i really want to lose fat, so i want to try weight training but i have noooo idea where to beegin (what kinds of weights do i lift, how do i lift them ?) could u help me ?

I’ll tell you how I started:

I started with classes where we used dumbbells and other free weights and learned how to hold weights, what exercises I liked, how to stand, etc.

Then I started using the weight machines at the gym. Those are good to start with because they usually have directions of how to use them on each machine. (You should try to start with 2 sets of around 8 reps of a weight that is really hard once you get to number 7 or 8.)

Then I started mixing the two together and every now and then there’d be something I would see online so I try that, or I ask the people who work at the gym how to use some of the equipment.

I’m sure there are more ways to get into it but because that was my experience it’s the only one I know!

Hey, so I have a question, when I run I get really painful aches in my hips, is this normal? xx

No, you should never hurt from running. It might be hard and you might be out of breath, your muscles feeling fatigued, feel sore the next day, etc. but it should never hurt.

Make sure you’re stretching! I have problems with my hips when I run and I just recently found out it’s because I’ve overexerted my IT band without stretching it properly. I now use a foam roller to stretch it out (along with some other stretches) and I found out the way I stand actually contributes to my hips aching when I run (I pronate, and ever since I’ve been working on not doing that it’s helped A TON). Not saying you have IT band issues, but that’s what it was for me! If you continue to feel pain try to see a doctor to figure out what’s wrong.

Do you think the Jillian michaels 30 day shred would be better for a more beginner level more so than insanity? Or do you only know about insanity? Because I'm not sure which one i should do

30DS is definitely less intense, so if you’re a beginner I’d start with that!

anonymous asked:

Hey I was just looking at your progress picture and i'm literally exactly the same as you were in august 2012. I've been doing insanity and eating pretty clean for almost two weeks and I haven't seen any difference. I really want to improve my body for summer so how did you do that transformation in only two months?? Thanks :)

It took about 2 weeks to START seeing something, so don’t quit! And when I started it was when I was doing a lunge and my thigh looked just a little bit tighter. That motivated me more to eat completely clean (I was basically by myself in a house with no bad food so it was a lot easier than it is now) and then after two months I took a picture and compared it to before and realized I’d changed a lot more than I thought I had!

So moral of the story is just keep at it. You WILL see a change.
