Hernan cares a lot about Kirk and Bekka, he has shown them his soft side, told them about his past, and he is always keeping an eye out for them but he’s also too damn proud to accept their help or show weakness in front of them (and them worrying about him kind of annoys him too sometimes).

He protects them at all cost and if he has to be mean about it then he will.

Kirk doesn’t buy any of that “I don’t need you two” crap especially since in the second issue of this comic he makes it clear that he knows Hernan so well that he can tell when Hernan is BSing or being insincere (and Bekka does too for that matter).

Kirk only leaves because he knows Bekka is wounded and she needs time to recuperate and he knows how much she means to Hernan so he goes, but he just thinks about helping him.

Also while Bekka and Kirk care a lot about Hernan and vice versa, there is little to no interaction between Kirk and Bekka themselves in this comic (their first meeting was also off panel) this comic had a full page of them interacting but it wasn’t enough and it’s mostly Kirk worrying about Hernan and Bekka coming up with a plan to defeat Imperiex (srsly more Kirk and Bekka stuff pls).

Hi!! Do you happen to know from which comic this page is? rampages us/johnsontf/wp-content/uploads/sites/8539/2015/10/466871_original png

Ooh! This looked vaguely familiar, but I couldn’t place it. I did a bit of digging, and it turns out it’s from Justice League Task Force #8, the second half of a 1993 two-parter that I hadn’t read before.

Unfortunately the rest of the story is… not good. Lots of tired gendered jokes and essentialist nastiness. J’onn’s characterisation is particularly bad – he spends the whole story professing not to understand women, complaining about having to shift into a female form for the mission, admonishing the women never to tell their male friends about his humiliation, and then reacting like a massive asshole when the woman he’s been pretending to love reveals that she’s intersex.

But this page is good! Let’s just enjoy this page!
