just trying to figure out how to not kill people with my cooking

new genre concept: soft apocalypse

the world as we know it has ended and mother nature starts taking back what’s hers. there are no zombies or cannibals or murderous bandits. the most valued members of the community are those who know how to garden and farm, sew and weave, treat wounds, work wood or build with bricks, cook from scratch.

people bond together to begin rebuilding instead of killing each other. everyone teaches each other whatever they do know and works together to figure out the stuff none of them know. books become incredibly valued resources because they’re often the only way to learn critical information. if someone is elderly, disabled, or otherwise unable to work at the same level as most of the community, they’re taken care of by the others, not told any sort of “survival of the fittest” bs.

as the generations ware on, communities begin expanding into small cities. some of the settlements even find ways to repurpose solar or wind power on a small scale and have electricity in some of their buildings. storytellers wander the countryside telling tales of the old world in return for some hot stew or a place to rest for the night, and the mythos of the new world start to incorporate elements of the past. the only thing that remains constant is that humans survive, and they do it by working together.

pairing: reader x park jimin

summary: park jimin was famous for being a fratboy, a cutie with a booty, and for being a pain in the ass. yet, somehow, you still ended up in his bed.

genre/count: smut and fluff [ nc-17 ]   |   7.8k words

a/n: i started writing this at work and enjoyed it way too much :’)

Jimin liked to think himself easygoing. He could sweet talk anyone, worm his way into people’s lives and fit himself all snug in their hearts. It was just a charm of his, he supposed. He wasn’t too judgmental or strict, liked to be the good cop to everyone’s bad cop (especially Yoongi in the frat).

But there was something about you that just irritated the fuck out of him. It wasn’t as if you were unpleasant, no. You were pleasant to everyone except him. You were always so effortlessly fucking gorgeous. You never looked snobby or pretentious and he would do you ten out of ten. So he wasn’t quite sure what it was that nagged at the back of his mind about you.

It was during one of his fraternity’s house parties, Hoseok’s this time because he had just gotten the opportunity to perform his choreography in the department’s annual showcase, hence making it a good cause to celebrate. Jimin had entered, tipsy from the pre-game at Taehyung’s place with a handful of new pledges and Taehyung had announced his entrance as he always did. “Your party god and savior, Kim Taehyung, is finally here!” A few of the guys who were all too familiar with his antics waved him off. Jimin just laughed.

It was a little over midnight when Jimin found the music a little too loud, so he staggered over to the kitchen in search of a glass of water to relieve the dryness in the back of his throat. He’s found a few potential girls he could hook up with tonight but none he was too interested in.

However, the sight of another figure halted his footsteps. You stood there nursing your own drink, clad in the shortest pair of leather shorts that curved around your ass nicely, a top that was tantalizing enough to have his dick twitching in his pants but elegant enough to keep it classy. Not to mention that choker that wrapped around your neck. Fuck. You were laughing with a new pledge from his frat and he could already tell that the kid was interested but he couldn’t help the asshole in him when it came to you.

anonymous asked:

I dare you to tell another story from the apartment

Today, we’re going to talk about the time Paul’s desire for superior firepower turned into a mini arms race that ended with me setting Eric on fire with a homemade flamethrower.

No, Matt Boomer, you sexy motherfucker, I am not kidding you. Let’s begin with some details.

So when I was at the University of Iowa, several people, including myself, bought Nerf guns for impromptu battles in the hallways when we had free time. Mostly this was all good, clean fun, except for two of the guys down the hall, my roommate, and I.

We all thought, rightfully so, that factory built Nerf guns are bullshit. They’re weak, darts are too fucking light, the barrels cause too much friction, which makes them inaccurate and slow, and you have to re-cock them after each shot. That’s some fucking bullshit right there. So we fixed it.

We bought new, higher tensile springs. We bought PVC pipe and lubricant. We put BBs in the tips of our darts, and my roommate and even put in a second spring to automatically cock the gun, essentially turning them from bolt action pieces of shit into semi-automatic friendship-ruiners.

So when I moved back to Chicago, and into the apartment, I obviously brought my Nerf guns (my roommate gave me his when we moved out), and I obviously attacked my roommates the first opportunity I had. OBVIOUSLY this led to everyone buying Nerf guns and modifying the shit out of them.

However, some of us were terrible shots, so certain measures had to be taken to make it possible for them to keep up. Brad practiced in his room every day, Josh built an extended clip for his gun, and Kyle bought the fucking Vulcan and built a 600 dart belt for it because he decided aiming is for people who can’t fire 6 darts a second (he modded it for doubled firing speed using a small car battery and replaced mechanics).

And then there was Paul.

Paul was fucking terrible. Like almost so bad it couldn’t be for real. He once tried to ambush me coming around a corner from 2 feet away and missed by a good 6-7 inches. He literally could have slapped me and he missed. Whatever moving on.

So Paul decides to solve his aim problems in the most Paul way possible: online shopping. He bought 500 foam pellets for a marshmallow gun, two dozen foam discs, and a motherfucking t-shirt cannon.

You see, Paul, much like Kyle, decided aiming was for lames. So he would pour foam pellets into the cannon until it was half full, slip in a disc to keep them from falling out, then shotgun people in the face. I was his first victim and boy let me tell you that shit is terrifying.

So Paul became the big dog in the house during Nerf battles, and the rest of us found ourselves unable to compete. So we all escalated in our own insane ways. Eric and I, the former champions, modified our guns to fire faster, Brad added an extended magazine to his gun, Kyle built a harness so that he could shoot his fucking stupid fucking bullet-storm piece of shit while moving. Josh booby-trapped various parts of our apartment. Suddenly, we were all better than Paul again, so he decided to step his game up.

He started making paper cartridges that would explode open once fired. Suddenly, he could actually fire multiple times a minute, which meant once again, he was at the top. It didn’t help that our reluctance to shoot back out of fear of getting shot was allowing him to take his time, therefore drastically improving his aim.

So we stepped up again. I smooth out the cocking mechanism on my guns, improving my firing speed even faster. Eric adds more weight to his darts, making them heavier and faster and much more painful. Kyle buys a bigger battery, newer parts, and he perfects his belts, which increases his firing speed to 12 darts a second.

So Paul steps up to take advantage of his improved aim and buys something called a Pucker Chucker which basically is a t-shirt cannon except it shoots foam pucks. This means we can’t just shoot at him from the other side of the apartment anymore, so we all step up again. I modify the rail on top to make aiming easier, Eric modifies his grip to make it more comfortable, Kyle and brad modify their barrels to make them more accurate, and Josh jumps on board the crazy train and builds a goddamn under barrel cherry bomb launcher.

And this is where shit starts to spiral out of control.

Brad starts making smoke grenades, Kyle solves his weakness against close quarters combat by using his battery to create a cattle prod to keep people back. Eric breaks the head off an old golf club to use the shaft as a weapon, I put pins in the tips of all of my darts, and Paul realizes that the Pucker Chucker can also shoot real hockey pucks after he steals my bucket of pucks from my room.

So it escalated a couple more steps but I’m going to leave them out partially out of a desire to keep moving forward and partially out of shame anywhoozle when we pull out our final contraptions and modifications that day we shifted from light-hearted fun that was a bit too far to literally combat. Josh had a sword. I don’t know where he got it from.

That battle was terrifying. Our normal fights were like an hour, two hours tops, then we would clean up, get together in the living room with some beers, and laugh about what happened. Honestly we should have known this was going to happen because when we did this after our previous fight, the laughter was less “haha remember when I shot Josh in the butthole? Classic.” and more “haha remember when I missed your face with that puck? Next time I won’t miss.

So we somehow get into a battle again and this time things go south quickly which is bound to happen when you have a dude in a speedo swinging a sword around while rolling fireworks down the hall. It was literally chaos. There were fireworks and homemade smoke grenades and Kyle made the electrical current in his cattle prod too strong and it was too close to the muzzle of his Vulcan so every few seconds you would just see a flaming dart wiz past and I built a fucking flamethrower and I don’t know what the fuck is going on so I’m just firing it in the general direction of Josh to keep him the fuck away. At some point Brad barricades himself in his room, and so we all run back to our rooms and hide.

We do this for three days. THREE DAYS. I missed classes. We all had junk food in our rooms, and private bathrooms, so that’s what we sustained ourselves on for three fucking days. I, however, try to eat healthy, so I ran out of food almost immediately. After not eating for a day and a half, with food literally less than 50 feet from where I was hiding, I decided that I was willing to risk a trip to the kitchen.

So here’s something important about our apartment: I was the only one who knew how to cook. I had tried to teach the others, but all that had accomplished was several kitchen fires. This meant when Eric also ran out of food, he knew the only way to get a meal was to make peace with me. So he had snuck down the hall to my door, intent on asking me for help.

I did not know he was there.

So when I opened the door and saw a crouching figure in the shadows nearby, I assumed, I think justifiably, that it was the guy who had been swinging a sword at all of us the last time I saw him. So I pulled the trigger on my homemade flamethrower, only to see Eric’s horrified face illuminated by the flames for a split second before they hit his torso.

Luckily, I was using a scavenged fuel source (computer screen cleaner), so the flames were weak, but still fire is fire and fire fucking hurts. So Eric is rolling on the floor with first degree burns on his stomach and chest, and I’m freaking out because Eric is my friend and I just set him on fire, so there is now a lot of screaming coming from the hall.

Now, to lighten the mood slightly, here’s a personality test. You hear the sounds of fire, followed shortly by screaming coming from the hall outside your room. What do you do?

Do you assume the crazy sword guy has finally snapped and is going to kill you all, so you climb out the window onto the fire escape? Congratulations, you’re Brad.

Do you hear the cries of pain and grab a first aid kit before sprinting into the hall to help? Hey! You’re Kyle!

Do you hear the flames so you sprint into the kitchen to grab the fire extinguisher? You are Paul.

Do you come out into the hall to see what’s going on but also bring your sword just in case you have to stab someone? You are Josh and also mentally unstable please put your sword away.

So Kyle comes out and he and I start administering first aid and luckily through a combination of the weakness of my fuel source, how quickly I stopped the flames, and the quickness of our treatments, Eric only gets some first degree burns on his torso. Paul puts out the last of the flames, Josh decides he doesn’t want to stab anyone today, and Brad decides that the lack of screaming is a good thing and he comes inside. I spend the next hour apologizing profusely while cooking everyone dinner, and we decide that hey we should probably have some rules for our Nerf fights to prevent this from ever happening again.

So we all eat, we establish rules about modifications and ammunition, and at the end of it all, we grab some beers, head into the living room, and tell Josh he needs to get rid of the sword seriously dude where did you get that from?

genre: fuckboi!jungkook, roommate!jungkook, possibly smut in the future? angstish for now tbh

How you ended up with the world’s biggest fuckboy as your roommate, you don’t know; actually you did but still why you stayed you don’t know. This was seriously one of the world’s wonders; there were no common interests or reasons we had to get along but somehow we both ended up in this place together. You had been placed in the same apartment thanks to your friend Jimin who was moving to his own place and he said he’d look for a roommate for you, you didn’t expect that guy to move the worst person he could possibly choose into your home.

“I’m sorry, okay? He needed a place to stay after getting kicked out of Youngjae’s place.”, Jimin sympathetically told you whilst you tried to enjoy a meal. “If they kicked out, what makes you think I want him?” “Come on, he’s like a younger brother to me, he’s your age. Give him a chance?” “He’s literally the worst, since the day I met him I’ve wanted to murder him.” “Jeez, you need to stop hanging out with Yoongi.” “Besides the point, Jimin.” “I’m sorry, just give him a chance, if you can’t stand him, just leave, come to me, I don’t care, but give it a go. I kinda do wanna live on my own now?” “Am I the problem?”, you asked unamused by his hectic argument. “No, no, it’s not you, it’s just easier to get to work and school from my new place. You’re always welcome over if you need to stay or something, don’t worry.” “Fine, this is all for you Park Jimin.”

The things you do for this guy; you had a soft spot for Jimin, he was like an older brother to you. The one you never had, he really needed a roommate and soon you became friends, that was after realising you guys had mutual friends. Well, now you were living with Jungkook for Jimin’s sake.

It wasn’t too bad at first, neither of you spoke to each other and when he did attempt to make conversation you would simply tell him: “Did we agree on talking at this time or am i hearing things?”, causing him to sigh and give up on trying to gain your friendship. Other times you were forced to speak to him, like when he was in front of the fridge, the stove, the microwave or the door. “Move out the way dickead.”, you told him after he was blocking the entrance to the bathroom. “That’s not how you pronounce Jungkook!”, he pouted as he dried his hair with a towel. “Was I trying to pronounce your name? I don’t think so and you’re still in the way!” “My apologies, my lady.” He would always attempt to joke around with you and be friendly, but you assumed he was doing so to be civil not to be friends with you after he dropped you and Isla back in high school, even if you weren’t friends with Isla anymore, it still sucked.

Hell on Earth: Welcome Back (Part 1)

Characters: Dean Winchester x Reader x Sam Winchester (Sister / Friends / Platonic / However you want to see it), Bobby, Ellen, Jo, Charlie, Kevin, Crowley

Length: 3010+ words

TW: Mentions of Torture, Rape, Child Abuse, Child Soldiers, Etc.

A/N: So here is Ch 1 of my new series! There’s 6 parts in total, and I may have a sequel to this fic, depending on the feedback I get!

Part 1     Part 2     Part 3     Part 4     Part 5     Part 6

Dean and Sam Winchester were in their library, the eldest was reading an old lore book, and the youngest was on his laptop, looking for a case. The silence was comfortable, and much needed as a break from their high-stress life.

Dean cursed under his breath, grabbing his phone from his pocket. “Hello?”

“What did you idjits do?”

“Bobby?!” he exclaimed. Sam got up from his chair, eyes wide with surprise.

“No, it’s Chuck,” the man replied sarcastically. “What did you boys do?”

“Nothing! We didn’t do anything!” Dean defended. “H-How are you alive?”

“If I knew, I wouldn’t be calling you.” Bobby rolled his eyes.

“Where are you?”

“Home,” he answered. “Pulled out of heaven, and woke up on my bed.”

“We’re coming over,” Dean said, needing to see the man he saw as a father in person.

“Good. You can see Ellen and Jo too.”

“Ellen?! Jo? The hell is going on here, Bobby?!”

“I don’t know,” the man bit back. “Get your asses down here as soon as you can.” He hung up the phone, and Dean lowered his phone slowly.

“Welcome home, bitches!”

The two boys whirled around, seeing Charlie on top of the staircase of their bunker. Their jaws dropped.

“Sammy, get the holy water, and silver.” Dean narrowed his eyes at the girl. She only rolled her eyes, but tugged her sleeve up. Sam gave her the holy water which she drank, nothing happened. He sliced the top of her forearm with the silver blade, nothing happened.

“Jesus Christ, it’s good to see you, kid,” Dean breathed, giving her the biggest hug he could muster.

“You too, old man,” she said with a grin.

Sam was next, giving her a huge hug as well. “I’m sorry,” he mumbled.

“Water under the bridge, Sam!” She ruffled his hair.

“We’re heading up to Bobby’s, apparently he’s alive.” Dean turned around, heading to his room to pack.

“And so is Ellen and Jo.”

“Damn. What did you boys do?”

“Nothing!” Sam answered defensively. “Maybe Chuck decided to give us a break after all.”

Dean scoffed. “Yea, right.”

“You hear from anyone else?” Charlie asked.

“No one yet.”

“We have an arsenal of people we’ve lost,” Dean added. “There are too many names running through my head right now.”

Suddenly, Sam’s phone rang. They all looked at his expectantly as he answered the call.

“Kevin!” Sam exclaimed with a huge grin. “How are you, buddy?”

“Confused… Back from the dead, but confused.”

The youngest Winchester could only laugh. “Well, we’re all heading to Bobby’s to get this sorted. Why don’t you meet us there?”

“Sure. See you soon.”

When the Winchesters got to Bobby’s house, everyone was already there.

“We all did the tests,” Bobby informed them, showing them the raised skin from cutting themselves with a silver knife.

Dean and Sam nodded, almost at tears. They looked around the room, familiar faces that they thought they would never see again. After days of catching up, everyone left, trying to get back to their normal lives.

The brothers drove back to the bunker, hearts full of joy, even if it’s just for a short time. Dean’s phone rang just as they were nearing the bunker.

“Squirrel, I need to talk to you,” Crowley said, his voice was cold.

“Well, talk,” Dean replied sassily.

Sam raised his eyebrows when he heard him growl.

“Take off the wardings. There’s someone you need to meet.”

“Do you think we’re stupid?” Dean rolled his eyes. “What makes you think we’re going to trust you.”

“This is not up for debate, Dean!” Crowley bellowed. “You can summon me in a demon trap.”

Dean glanced at Sam who shrugged. “Fine.” They prepared the demon trap in the dungeon and temporarily took down the wardings.

Crowley appeared, but he wasn’t alone.

“What do you want?”

He was holding a girl in his arms. Her clothes were tattered, and caked with blood and dirt, but most of her was covered by Crowley’s black jacket.

“Who the hell is she?” Dean’s hand reached out for the gun in his back.

“She is the girl who sold her soul to bring back everyone you lost.”

Sam peered over his brother’s shoulder, examining the girl to see if he recognized her. “We’ve never seen her.”

“No. You guys have never crossed paths.”

The brothers looked at Crowley uneasily. They’ve never seen him this serious, his eyes were glowing red, and any signs of comfort between them was replaced with heavy tension.

“Then who is she?” the youngest Winchester asked.

“Y/N. She’s a girl that one of my demons kidnapped.” His eyes flared with angry red, before he took a deep breath, calming himself. “One of my demons had a deep fascination with making child soldiers. She was a prisoner, they reduced her to nothing- to believe that she was nothing. She somehow managed to find out about you boys, and decided to make a deal to bring back a list of people you lost. Obviously, no one was going to do just that. The bitch that kidnapped her was actually a crossroad demon, and  found out about her deal. She sent my hellhounds right there and then, killing her and sending her to hell where they personally tortured her for years before I stepped in. Those demons are now on the rack, where they’ll stay for ten times as long as the time she was tortured by them.”

“How long was she down there?” Sam whispered.

“Five years.”

The boys stood shell-shocked. Their eyes wide with awe.

“The deal didn’t go through though! How did she bring them back?” Dean asked.

home for the holidays (m)

pairing: reader x resident assistant!kim taehyung

genre/components: [ NC-17 ] smut, fluff // taehyung finds the perfect company for his lonely winter break

count: 5,264 words

a/n: HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY DEAR BABY. he’s the reason why i try to stay positive and happy in life and i hope he’s showered with lots of love and happiness. this is honestly just fluffy tae smut cos i want him happy.

There was something about Christmas that always left a bitter aftertaste in Taehyung’s mouth.

Don’t get him wrong, he absolutely loved festivities. Why else would you find him squeezing into an oversized diaper on Valentine’s Day, dropping off little bags of chocolate on every one of his resident’s doorsteps? When asked why he did such a thing in a ridiculous outfit, in other words a pair of white boxer shorts, he only replied with, “I’m Cupid, it adds to the authenticity.” Halloween had him and Jimin, a fellow resident assistant, hiding in the dorm’s broom closets and scaring every person that walked past (though the hall director did ban this for the following year due to minor injuries caused). Nevertheless, Taehyung lived for the atmosphere during these days, how alive the world seemed when everyone was happy (debatable for Valentine’s Day).

However, Christmas was something that Taehyung had a love-hate relationship with. It wasn’t the cold weather because he loved every opportunity he could take to bury his face in the knitted scarf his grandma had gifted him and inhaling copious amounts of hot chocolate.

But being a resident assistant over winter break was never fun. The hall was empty and cold, slithering a chill down his spine whenever he walked down the all too dead hallway that was usually filled by chattering with the occasional sex noises. Residents were gone, most of them back to visit their families and the minority staying on campus to take up a few classes. The resource center he worked in was even more dead. If that was possible.

Nobody even came for toilet paper and people always came for toilet paper.

He was clicking away on a minesweeper game on the ancient computer downstairs (he tried to install League but that had fucked up the system) when he heard sounds from above him. And there you stood, hair a wet, tangled mess, eyes staring at him curiously, lips plump and dark from the shower as you blinked. So cute was his first thought. “Hello! Another human being! Now this is a true Christmas miracle.”

Some of you might have noticed something kind of funny about people.

Almost none of them like Treasure Planet.

And, considering I joined this fandom well over three years ago by now, this comes as absolutely no surprise to me – and chances are, if you’ve known about this film for longer than, say, a day, it fails to surprise you, too. I mean, we’ve all heard the reasons, haven’t we – valid though they are, it’s depressing to hear them, the millions upon millions upon millions of them.

  • “Sorry, the sci-fi just wasn’t my thing.”
  •  “I liked it okay, but I can’t see myself ever watching it again.”
  •  “The animation was good, but I didn’t really like the rest of it.”
  •  “It was…sort of weird to me.”
  •  “It doesn’t measure up to Treasure Island.”
  •  “It just wasn’t my cup of tea.”

Or - and here’s the one that gets to me:

  • “I just really didn’t like the main kid.”

The words come across as pretty innocent - it’s just a matter of preference, it’s just their opinion, live and let live, nothing wrong with disagreeing…and there’s not. There’s really, really not. You can hate Jim Hawkins as much as you want. But you can look me in the eye and can you tell me why you hate him? Can you tell me why, exactly, that’s the argument I’ve heard the most out of any of them? Can you tell me why, in my 3+ years in this wonderful fandom, in the thousands of days I’ve now spent promoting the shit out of this film every chance I get, can you tell me why that argument is the one I find myself dealing with the most? Can you look at me and can you tell me why you hate Jim Hawkins? Can you do that?

Because here’s the thing - I can tell you why I love him. And I got shit to back up me up.

Let’s get down to business. Let me tell you why I love Jim Hawkins - every habit, every quirk, every mannerism, every virtue, and every flaw. Let’s plunge right in.

  • He’s kind.

Sure, you can roll your eyes if you want to, but honestly? Being really, truly, simply, genuinely nice is such a rare quality in the world, and Jim has - and displays - this quality in abundance. I mean, for one thing, bringing Billy Bones to the Benbow when he seems ninety percent sure the guy’s just crazy? Yet he takes a chance anyway, because the sailor’s sick, the sailor’s injured, it’s raining really hard, he shouldn’t be out in this in his state, here, give me your arm, let me help you, you can come in out of the rain and stay in my house for a bit.

And what about the time he met that half-mad robot on Treasure Planet and, despite the fact that BEN blatantly oversteps his boundaries a good ten times (”Will you let go of me?/Stop touching me!”/Will you quit hugging me?”) or so within the first five minutes of their introduction, despite the fact that he is very obviously unhinged from all that time alone, despite the fact that BEN is loud and attention-drawing and the word stealthy isn’t in his vocabulary, despite the fact that he’s putting the captain and the doctor and himself in peril by doing so, Jim allows BEN to come with him - all he needs is to hear about the robot’s century of solitude, his loneliness, his desolation, and he just drops everything and says, “If you’re gonna come along…”

And don’t even get me started on the deleted scenes - such as the one where he offers to fix this child’s scooter, even though he and this kid have never met before, never even spoken to one another, and yet he offers to fix this scooter because aww the kid’s sad let me fix it for you.

Because, beneath that black jacket and that dark scowl of his, Jim has a huge, huge heart and it’s there and it’s evident for anyone willing to look. Because Jim just legitimately cares about other people, and there’s no ulterior motive, he doesn’t ask for compensation, he doesn’t expect anything in return, he just genuinely likes helping others.

(And as I don’t happen to have an image on hand for the child’s scooter bit mentioned above, have a few bonus pictures of times when Jim was nice)

Comforting a frightened Morph despite the fact that his life is in the most immediate and intense danger

And how about the time he lets a pirate - the leader of a mutiny in which he was supposed to be killed - walk the fuck away from him because he believes there’s good in Silver

Don’t get me started on this kid and his kindness. Don’t. Get me started.

  • And he’s smart.

I don’t mean passing-his-finals-with-flying-colors oh-haha-that-was-a-total-seat-of-my-pants-test can’t-believe-I-pulled-through-with-a-B I-was-pulling-answers-out-of-my-ass kind of smart.

I mean completely, incredibly, off-the-charts, blow-your-mind brilliant. He might be failing his high school classes, but it’s certainly not due to the challenge; he doesn’t put any effort into his work because he just doesn’t care. I mean, we even hear Sarah state that he built his first solar surfer when he was eight. So let’s let that sink in for a second.

This kid

was no older than that when he built one of these

Just let that sit a minute. He built one of those gizmos

when he was eight fucking years old. Hell, I’m not one hundred percent sure I understand them now, and he was eight and he understood them so well he could make them. (Sure, he ultimately uses it to cause trouble and ride straight into restricted areas, but it still makes him pretty brainy.)

And not to mention, when Silver tries to teach him how to steer a skiff, he doesn’t even let the guy finish his sentence before he starts powering it up. Despite the other’s best attempts to stop him, Jim ignites the engine and sends them whirling straight into a comet. He fucking steers a boat - with limited knowledge, considering Silver didn’t get a chance to teach him everything - he steers a boat into a comet, and rides that comet to its end and does it without ever missing a beat, without ever throwing himself or his companion out of the boat, without ever messing up or getting hurt or hurting Silver or anything, just gets the hang of it right off the bat.

And at the end of it, all Silver says is, “If I could maneuver a skiff like that when I was your age, they’d be bowing in the streets when I walked by today!”

Oh, and did I mention he powers up a century-old crashed boat in sixty seconds? No? Well, he did that, too.

Oh, and he also made another solar surfer, this time at fifteen, out of the useless parts of their failing ship while the planet explodes around them.

And, when said surfer begins failing, threatening to send him plummeting to his death in a raging river of lava bubbling and frothing beneath him, he keeps it going - literally rams it into the wall, striking it against the metal surface until enough friction occurs to power the thrusters again, and he does this all in the space of thirty seconds.

Oh, and he figured out where Flint’s trove was hidden before anyone else, just based on the fragmented bits and pieces he’d picked up from other people

And did I mention yet that he was the only one who could open the map leading to the planet?

There were people thirty and forty years his senior trying to figure it out

and he figures it out in seconds

  • And he’s brave

Remember when he casually faced down a whole crew of pirates three and four times over, all in the space of twenty-four hours?

And how about the fact that he refuses, at great risk to himself, to open the map for the pirates - until Silver threatens the captain and the doctor?

Or when he’s fixing that hundred-year-old boat we discussed earlier, and tells BEN to leave without him if he can’t get away in the next five minutes?

Oh, and when the star Pellucid goes supernova on their voyage and the hands are sent to secure the solar sails, not only does Jim immediately ascend, no hesitation

he also spots Silver, who followed him there, fall from his perch, and literally fucking throws himself down onto the wood and hauls the cook - who, to be honest, has a good hundred pounds on Jim and probably almost took the kid down with him, and definitely dragged the kid closer to the edge than would be advised - back up to safety.

And later in the film, he receives an order from the captain to scout ahead and find them a better place to hide - and even though the pirates were spotted seconds earlier, circling the skies in a longboat, Jim expresses no hesitation, simply obeys.

And, oh, uh, you remember that solar surfer we talked about earlier, the one he constructed as the planet bursts into flames and burns down around him?

Yeah, here he is riding it through the fires and eruptions and random debris, here he is casually risking his life to save everyone else, most of them being pirates who would have loved to see him dead.

Yep, don’t mind him, he’s just saving everyone else. He might die doing it, but damn, he’s doing it anyway.

But wait. I did promise to discuss his flaws as well, and, so far, I haven’t been making good on that promise, have I?

Fear not, for Jim Hawkins is far from perfect and it’s time for us to explore the reasons why.

  • He’s impulsive

While most readily refer to this as a “Mary Sue trait” and “not really a flaw” , I can’t help but disagree; if we consider it an undesirable trait in a real person, why on earth would we think it little more than a cute quirk in a fictional character? Believe me when I say, Jim’s consistent failure to think before he acts is not a charming little thing - it’s a flaw, plain and simple.

For all Jim’s kindness, for all his bravery and unfailing ability to think fast on his feet, he is impulsive as all hell.

Like when he, in his first meeting with Silver, throws out several thinly-veiled accusations - showing his cards, playing his whole hand right off the bat on the off chance that his opponent might show his, too.

Unsurprisingly, of course, Silver does not rise to the bait - meaning Jim revealed everything to the man who will later become his enemy, in a sense losing the only advantage he really held, whereas Silver lost nothing and now has additional information to help him on his way. And all this could have been avoided had Jim just kept his mouth shut.

And that time when he attempted to eavesdrop on a couple of the other hands cause he thought they were acting suspicious

But it’s not long before they notice him and immediately shut up - meaning Jim has now given his suspicions away to four different people, four people whom he suspects. (Five, if you count Oxy and Moron as two.)

Or how about when they find that map we talked about earlier, and when he opens it up and realizes it leads to Treasure Planet, his first thought is to follow it? Like, this could be anything. A trap, a red herring, a fool’s errand, and Jim just throws himself headlong into it because look there’s a slim chance it could be treasure let’s go right now!

I mean, there’s just no room for doubt: Jim is super impulsive, and that’s not a good quality to have. Sure, it gets shit done, but cautious people get shit done too, and they probably get it done better because they’re not making snap decisions every 2.5 seconds.

  • And Jim is selfish

Sure, we all love him. Well, some of you hate him, and some of you love to hate him, but the sentiment stands; we all love Jim, but you can’t love somebody for too long without noticing his flaws. And Jim has his flaws.

And it’s especially obvious in scenes like this

where we see that Jim was just out on a joyride while his mother visibly struggles to run the inn by herself.

It’s obvious he uses that solar surfing hobby to escape, to distract him from his problems after a tough day, but this, in turn, suggests that he feels his problems at the moment are more important than Sarah’s, and so puts himself before his mother.

And he makes things harder on her than probably anyone else in her life, going out and getting in trouble all the time and bringing the police to her door

Not only is this probably really bad for business, it’s also likely embarrassing and obviously upsetting for poor Sarah - yet Jim offers no apology, offers almost nothing beyond the words, “Mom, it’s no big deal!”

And when they open the map and realize where it leads, Jim jumps on the chance to leave Sarah

Not just their lonely little planet, but Sarah, he wants to leave her. And though his intentions here are honorable (”We could rebuild the Benbow a hundred times over!” / “I’ll make you proud!”) it still fails to completely sugarcoat the fact that he left her there, lured away by the promise of adventure.

Because Jim is selfish.

  • He’s touchy, and defiant as all hell.

Sure, this is a flaw. Sure, it’s not a great quality to have. Sure, it holds him back more than anything, and it probably gets him in more trouble than it’s worth - but I still tip my hat to Disney for introducing this flaw at all. It has been proven in the past that children with absentee parents - particularly boys with neglectful fathers -  tend to become obstinate teens with no regard for authority, and I’m just so proud of them for doing their research on that one.

Admittedly, however, this quality does cause him more trouble than it’s worth. I mean, he makes himself an enemy out of the scariest alien aboard in the first five minutes, all because he has to have the last word.

As a matter of fact, when I think about it, Jim has single-handedly gotten on the bad side of every one of these pirates on board this ship, with the obvious exception of Silver, and he does it all because he is just that feisty.

On the other hand, however, his pluck is the first thing Silver notices - and likes - about him. It’s obvious that while the pirate captain plans to work the spunk out of him, he can’t help but respect it, too.

Like, for instance, on Treasure Planet, when Jim refuses to allow Silver to leave without him

there’s an instant where Silver looks like he’s about to argue

and he could, he could just hold the captain, the doctor, or even BEN at gunpoint, and chances are, Jim would likely obey just to spare those he cares for. Despite the fact that Silver is clearly the one in power here, he gives into Jim’s demands - because, even if he doesn’t like it, Jim’s defiance is something he can respect. They may be enemies now, but Silver recognizes and respects that Jim makes a worthy enemy.

  • And let’s not forget that he’s stubborn.

Seriously, once he’s found something to fight for, he’ll fight for that, and he’ll get it, no matter what it takes, and there’s nobody in the world that can change his mind. If he gets it in his head that he wants to do something, if he gets it in his head that he should do something, he’ll do it, no matter what.

And in some cases, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It means he has a strong sense of right and wrong and knows the difference between the two, and will do what he believes to be right, regardless of what other people say. He has a moral code, and a strong one, at that, and he rarely deviates from it. And this is actually a good thing when, say, there’s a treasure-hunting pirate captain attempting to bribe him into betraying the captain and the doctor and handing over the map.

And, when this fails and Silver resorts to trying to frighten him into submission, the kid doesn’t even blink. He can’t be bought, and he sure as hell can’t be intimidated.

Of course, this isn’t always a good quality to have; while it does make him more resistant to tactics such as temptation, it also makes him inflexible and, in some cases, extremely resistant to change, even when that change would be for the better.

But that iron will has another advantage.

  • It makes him hardworking.

Whether it’s as trivial as swabbing the deck, or as enormous as seeking out a legendary treasure trove, if Jim sees the point in a task - if he sees, for himself, why it’s worthy of his time - he will put his all into it, no questions asked. So though most would call him a delinquent, and while the robo-cops on Montressor outright tell him that he is a loser

Jim is actually extremely industrious and capable - he just doesn’t always show it. But it’s there, if you know how to look.

Like when Silver leaves him with this huge pile of dishes in the galley

and he just picks up his brush and keeps right on going

and in fact, is so determined to finish up that damn stack that he ends up falling asleep in the galley, head resting on the pot in his hand

but the dishes around him are gleaming.

Or how about when he was failing at school at the beginning of the film, and by the end, he has graduated from the prestigious Interstellar Academy?

Can you imagine how much work it must have taken to get himself into that Academy? I mean, how long did it take for him to pull those grades up, to convince others he was really serious about this, and can you imagine how much work it took to get through the Academy once he got there? But Jim got there anyway, and he did graduate, and he did do all that amazing stuff, and he did it because he works hard.

Oh and remember

  • He was lost

Though by the end of the film Jim is high-spirited and confident, we know from the beginning that it wasn’t always so. His father’s absence left a hole in him, a hole he felt it was too big to fill - a hole that left him feeling worthless and rejected, it left him feeling angry and defeated, and it left him thinking he wasn’t good enough. It left him with a strong, deep-seated fear of abandonment, and more than that, it left him searching - searching and searching and never quite finding the missing piece he so desperately needed.

Jim felt he had no future; Jim felt he wasn’t worth a future; Jim didn’t really know where he was going, and that’s the kind of relatability I’ve come to expect from Dreamworks. I don’t go into a Disney film expecting to find real characters, so this came as a pleasant surprise.

And something else I’ll probably never get over

  • Jim is sensitive

So, this one actually sounds funny. I mean, I just said earlier how selfish Jim is, right? How he’s always putting himself before Sarah? Yeah. That whole argument still stands. It’s just that Jim isn’t all selfish, all the time. Can he be selfish? Yes. Extremely. Is he selfish? Sometimes. But he’s also, as mentioned before, a genuinely nice person. A person with honest empathy. His instances of self-absorption don’t cancel that out.

Now, while most define a sensitive person as “one who understands and feels for others” - and while Jim certainly does that, too - we’ve already tackled that. We’ve talked about Jim as a compassionate and thoughtful individual, and I’m not here to talk about it again, though I could.

No, there are drawbacks to feeling for others, and I’m here to talk about them.

I mean, Jim cares about other people - Jim feels deeply for people, deeply enough to welcome complete strangers into his house and offer lonely individuals a place at his side, Jim just feels for people even if he’s never experienced their hardships for himself. And if he can feel so strongly for strangers, if he can look upon a person he hardly knows and want to help ease their pain, if his heart squeezes upon seeing others’ suffering, how much do you think it hurts when he experiences his own?

His father, for example. An indifferent, neglectful parent, the heartache they cause, it would sting even the most impervious - but for somebody as thin-skinned and tender-hearted as Jim, it absolutely devastates him. And when the man finally gives up on his family, leaving behind his wife and their eight-year-old, it just tears the kid apart.

As a matter of fact, it hurts Jim so deeply that it takes him seven years just to realize that it wasn’t his fault, or anyone’s; his father’s rejection caused him so much pain that he is well into his adolescence before he can even begin to accept that he’s gone.

But this isn’t just one instance; it’s not merely a festering childhood wound, no. Jim takes the slightest slip-up straight to heart - and upon believing he caused Mr. Arrow’s death, he spends what appears to be hours beating himself up for this perceived failure.

And ultimately, he might have continued indefinitely had Silver not intervened and comforted him.

And of course, less than twenty-four hours later, Silver tells his bloodthirsty crew - and, unwittingly, an eavesdropping Jim - that his attentions were all for show, that he had to be nice to the kid to keep him from suspecting the crew of anything shady, he had to win the lad’s trust or risk his suspicion…and Jim really believes it, and, in fact, is so hurt, that he appears to take a moment to swallow back tears.

Jim is just so easy to hurt.

And to be honest, it’s great; it makes his empathy for others more believable - after all, if his own wounds have left such obvious marks, who’s to say another’s tribulations won’t win over his sensitive heart?

And, hey, hey, don’t forget

  • He’s just a kid

I mean, he’s doing all this awesome shit, he’s building solar surfers

 and saving lives

and working his ass off and being super kind and impulsive and defiant and selfish and everything, he’s doing all this, and he’s only fifteen years old. Like. He’s fifteen. He’s not even an adult yet. He’s not even of legal age. He’s just casually amazing at fifteen, but what do you think he’ll be like in five years, ten years, twenty?

As Silver says, he really is going to rattle the stars.

Now let’s review before we go:

  • Jim is kind.
  • Jim is smart.
  • Jim is brave.
  • Jim is impulsive
  • Jim is selfish
  • Jim is touchy and defiant as all hell.
  • Jim is stubborn
  • Jim is hardworking.
  • Jim was lost.
  • Jim is sensitive
  • Jim is just a kid

Just please, for the love of all that is good and holy, don’t ever forget Jim Hawkins.

“Mundanes are Weird”

Imagine the shadowhunters trying to survive in a mundane high school

“We have a problem.” Jace stated, stalking into the training room of the Institute.
“I swear to the Angel, Jace, if it’s about your ‘life threatening hotness’ again, I’m going to kill you.” Alec warned.
“It’s not that.” Jace leaned against the wall. “Stop training, this is important.”
“How important?” Alec sighed, stopping punching the bag and pulling on his jacket.
“We have a load of reports of vampire attacks, from a high school nearby.” Jace straightened up.
“And? Vampire attacks don’t happen often, but we’ve handled them before.” Alec walked towards Jace, confused about why this was so important.
“They were all attacked during the day. And none were killed, so either it’s someone who’s really bad at faking being a vampire, or they’ve figured something out. Come on, me, you, Izzy, Clary, and even Simon are enrolling at the school.” Jace was obviously displeased about the fact that Simon was coming, but there wasn’t much he could do about it, vampires were generally very good at finding other vampires, and the only match for their speed.

You rubbed your eyes, still not used to the extreme brightness that came with being a vampire. You were also not used to your new body clock, that basically told you you couldn’t sleep. You could, however, lie down, close your eyes, and have some vivid daydreams. Being a vampire was not easy, nothing like the books and internet told you. You couldn’t even figure out why you weren’t burned by the sun, it stung certainly, but burn, it did not. In fact, you didn’t seem to have lots of the vampire traits, which was rather disappointing. If you were going to be forced to crave blood for all eternity,  the least you deserved was some super-powers.
Sighing, you got out of bed and dressed into a pair of black skinny jeans, a black t-shirt, and a red hoodie. You didn’t wear much colour before you’d suddenly started craving blood, but black was just easier as it didn’t show any stains if you were a bit messy. You pulled on your sneakers and tied your hair back, then went down the stairs and out the front door.
You walked to school, arriving right on time. You were getting your books from your locker when a teacher stopped you. “Y/N, this is Alec Lightwood, he’s going to be in your class, do you think you could show him around, make sure he knows where he’s going?”
You nodded, smiling at the tall, dark haired boy. “Not a problem. Do you have kit? P.E. is our first class.”
He just stared blankly at you, trying to understand. “‘Kit’?” He asked.
“P.E. gear? Clothes you can work out in.” You explained, as the teacher walked away.
“What’s P.E.?” He asked. “And no, I don’t have ‘kit’.”
“P.E. stands for Physical Education.” You explained, as you started walking towards the gym, him trailing behind you. “Did you not have it in your old school?”
“It was a very different school.” He mumbled, striding beside you. “All they really taught us was how to fight, different combat situations and all.”
“Oh, like a military school or something?”
He nodded. “Yeah, I guess.”
Just then, you saw your friend Jason, who’d recently broken a leg, up ahead. “Hey, J! This is Alec, he’s new here. Do you have kit he could borrow? He didn’t know we had P.E. today.”
“Yeah it’s in my locker, hi.” He smiled, crutching over to his locker and opening it. He took out a bag and tossed it to Alec, who caught it surprisingly quickly.
“Don’t worry, the clothes are definitely clean.” You laughed. “Jason is so afraid of germs he may as well wash his clothes halfway through P.E.”
“Oh shut up!” Jason laughed, limping over to the two of you. “Alex, is it?”
“Alec.” He corrected, not quite managing to smile, which the two of you put down as nerves. “How did you hurt your leg?”
The two of you exchanged a look, and you immediately knew that now was the time to lie. “He broke it when he was helping me with some D.I.Y. in my house.” You laughed, as did Jason.
“She felt so guilty she brought me hand-made meals every day for two weeks, until I finally told her she couldn’t cook.” Jason was grinning from ear to ear now, and you gave him a light shove. “Shut it, asshole.”
Alec chuckled lightly. “I feel your pain, I have a sister who cooks sometimes. When she cooks, we generally order take-out.”
Jason stuck his tongue out at you. “And they say women belong in the kitchen.” He turned to Alec. “I can show you where the guys’ changing rooms are, class starts soon.”
“I’ll meet you there, I’ve gotta get changed.” You smiled at the guys, and slipped off to the girl’s changing room.

“Jace, relax.” Clary urged, looking at her timetable. “It’s just school.”
“But there’s so many people here, we’re all gonna have to be on high alert if we want even a chance at finding this vampire.” Jace never settled his gaze anywhere for more than a split second, trying to remember everything and everyone. “I don’t like this, there’s too much danger. For all we know, they’re all vampires.”
“Nah, not likely.” Clary smiled. “Our best way to find them would probably be to find someone who was attacked and see if they remember anything.”
“And how do we do that?” Jace asked, then tensed slightly as the bell rang.
“Well, a good start would be to go to our first class, which would be… maths.” Clary frowned. “I hate maths.”
“Let’s do this.” Jace grabbed his bag, looking like he was steeling himself for something.
When they got to class, the teacher made them stand at the front and say their names with something interesting about themselves. Clary said that she liked art, while Jace went with he was interested in sports. After this, they were both given seats, Clary was next to a guy who looked like he lived maths, while Jace was next to a pretty girl with long blonde hair who was very interested in talking to him.

“You’re in luck Iz, our first class is science.” Simon smiled at Izzy. He was the only vampire who’d developed the ability to go out in the sun, and no one knew why, but it was very useful for this hunt.
“Oh phew, that shouldn’t be too hard.” Izzy smiled at him, then looked around at all the students milling past her. “Getting any vampy senses?”
“No, not really.” Simon admitted, “There’s something, but it feels like it’s outside the grounds of the school, so I’d say it’s not our guy.” He glanced around, then rested his hand on the small of Izzy’s back, guiding her towards their classroom.
They managed to arrive neither too early nor too late, and looked around the class. They split up, Izzy going to sit with a group of girls, and Simon sitting with two of the guys. They’d agreed beforehand that the best and fastest way to find the vampire was to split up and try to cover as much ground as possible, but Simon had an ulterior motive. He knew what the Clave did to downworlders who broke the Accords, and so he was hoping to get to the vampire before the others so he could help them, the way Raphael had helped him.

Chapter 7

(Summary: Intense dinner with Negan.)

You let out a shaky breath outside Negan’s door and knocked.

You heard his voice on the other side invite you in.

Slowly you turned the handle and entered the room with your eyes glued to the ground. Negan was sitting on one of his couches holding Lucille. You looked around the room and was grateful to see that no one else was there. You let out a sigh of relief.

Negan smirked seeing how nervous you were. He slowly stood up and walked towards you making you tense up. He went right past you to shut the door behind you. You had forgotten to close it because you were so nervous.

Negan placed a hand on your shoulder making you jump. He laughed as he turned you to face him.

“Calm the fuck down doll!”

“W-why am I h-here?”

“You ask too many fucking questions doll.”

If you could write about Bucky seeing them doing random stuff that you think they would do and his thoughts on it all? Also, Bucky is super confused because she is not his type at all as she likes heavy metal and basically everything Tony does? Btw adore your writing :) ❤” -@y0ulo0ksoco0l

For some unknown reason, Bucky had woken up this morning knowing something was different: today was going to be good.

Loud laughter filled the air, every nook and cranny overflowing with the echo of happiness. The sun seemed to burn brighter as rays of sunlight gleamed off every surface and danced across Bucky’s skin. The darkness that normally marched around the back of Bucky’s mind had been lifted, gloom no longer infected his thoughts and a deep, dark mist was no longer sewn onto his eyelids.

Walking into the living area, which could be frequently mistaken for a youth club, Bucky rubbed the last remaining fragments of sleep out of his eyes. The laughter he heard from his bedroom had grown into a roar of hollering and Bucky certainly wasn’t a fan but, at least, it woke him up.

Despite being comfortably settled in and used to city life, large social interactions still wrecked havoc on Bucky’s anxiety and, therefore, he certainly didn’t want to somehow wind up being asked to ‘join in’ as, after that, there would be no escape. But, he certainly wasn’t helping himself, the longer he stood there, the higher the risk of being caught and reeled in.

All he needed to do was get into the kitchen, get something to eat and get out, a couple more minutes and he’d be able to slip back into the comfort of his room Yet, his feet stayed firmly planted in the doorway, his body turned to ice.

As he desperately attempted to calm his mind and slow the frantic beat of his heart, he took in his surroundings. However, while observing the theatrical setting before him, he noticed a person that he had not seen before.

Every pair of eyes were latched onto her image, confidence dripped off the end of her slender fingers, long blonde hair rippled down her back in waves of delight and elegance, fused with an overwhelming sense of sexiness. She was mesmerising.

Bucky’s heart lost control, once again, and a faint blush climbed upon his cheeks. Never in his life had he seen someone so beautiful. For all Bucky knew, she could have been a model. Her body was perfectly proportioned, her smile sparkled and she was surrounded by an aura of happiness and light. With a flick of her finger, she was able to capture the interest of the people surrounding her; she made them smile and laugh, her confidence was intimidating, to say the least. She reminded Bucky of Tony, well except for the fact Tony was an asshole and the woman before him looked like the complete opposite.

Like the rest of the Tower’s occupants he felt hypnotised by her presence, his body begged to join in, to reach out and touch her…

But, Bucky had to keep away. In the silent corners of his day, demons would creep under his skin and plague his mind –he was still dangerous, he had never stopped being dangerous. Whenever he got close to someone, fate would dangle them before his eyes then rip them away. He did not belong with people of such beauty, he did not deserve to.

Ripping his eyes from her figure, he trekked back to the comfort of his bedroom and begged his mind to forget the addictive smell of her fragrance.

A few hours later the laughter had died down and Bucky assumed the coast was clear. So, he got up and he headed to the gym, desperate to relieve the tension that pulled at his heart strings.

As soon as he opened the door, he sensed the gym was not empty like he had hoped. As he looked around, searching for the intruder, a sea of blonde hair flashed at the corner of his eye. Shit.

Taking a deep breath, Bucky vowed to ignore her. All he had to do was stay for twenty minutes to reduce the suspicion that he was avoiding her then, leave. What could go wrong?

Heading in the opposite direction of where she was positioned, Bucky put in his earphones and turned his music up to full volume, praying that the authoritative lullaby of an orchestra would settle his nerves.

After twenty minutes had flown by, he silently thanked the Gods. He could leave and, oh, he planned to as quickly as possible. Hastily, he turned off the machine, wiped the sweat gathering at his brow and turned around. But, of course, he happened to collide with a body much smaller than his, throwing the person to the ground.

A deep red sprung upon his face as he apologised profusely, helping the young woman up, whom after brushing herself off and gathering her wits, thrust her hand forward, a look of embarrassment flushed through her cheeks.

“I’m really sorry; I shouldn’t have been standing so close. I guess I just grew incompetent in my excitement to finally meet you, Steve has said the most wonderful things.” Her voice flowed like honey and her eyelashes fluttered as she sent a sweet smile Bucky’s way.

Stupefied, Bucky searched for something to say. He longed to shake her hand but she’d held up the wrong one, he’d have to shake it with his metal arm and he wasn’t quite ready for that. Just as he’d formed a sentence that was somewhat coherent within the mess that was his mind, the woman in front of him filled the empty silence instead.

Dropping her arm, her smile faltered as a realised her mistake. “Anyway, it’s lovely to meet you even if I’m currently drenched in sweat. My names Rosemary, maybe we could hang out sometime? It was a real shame that you couldn’t join us this morning.” Giving Bucky one last smile, Rosemary turned around and started to leave the gym. Thinking that she’d upset Bucky, she deemed it best to just give him some time; maybe she could try again later.

On cue, Bucky’s stomach growled and gathering all the courage he could find, he blurted out the sentence that led to the blossoming of a beautiful friendship. “Do you to get McDonald’s?”

Stopping in her tracks, a smile burst onto Rosemary’s face. “I’m not a big fan of fast food but, after we’ve cleaned up, we could cook something? There’s no point Tony having a massive kitchen if no one uses it.” Turning round to see Bucky’s reaction, her smile grew even as she was faced with a warm smile and Bucky’s sparkling, grey eyes.

“That sounds good!” Bucky agreed.

Every day since then Rosemary and Bucky cooked together: sometimes it was for the whole team, sometimes it was just for them and sometimes they used their impressive skills to microwave some popcorn as they sat down to watch a movie. It gave Bucky, the release he needed. For that small part of his day, he could relax and forget every worry-

“Buck! The plums! You’re burning the plums.” Rosemary shouted as she rushed over to save the day. Well, every worry except burning the food in front of him.

“Are you doing okay today? You look very distracted.” Her voice turned soft as the turned towards Bucky, giving him her full attention.

The truth was that he was more than alright: he felt like he was on cloud nine. He and Rosemary had grown exponentially closer as they spent more and more time together, he woke up looking forward to seeing her and feel asleep still laughing at the mischief they wound themselves up in that day. His nightmares were fading and his face frequently wore a smile, a major improvement since when he’d first arrived.

Day by day he also felt himself falling further in love with her. He now noticed the way Rosemary’s hair shone white in the sunlight, how her blue iris’ were surrounded by a ring of emerald green, how her love of rock music (much to Bucky’s disgust) fuelled her shower sessions in the morning and how, despite her confidence, she often got embarrassed when given compliments.

“Yeah, I’m fine.” Bucky sighed, a smile written upon his face. If only had the confidence to show her how he really felt.

“Good,” Rosemary replied, her voice almost a whisper as she doubted Bucky had told her the truth. “However, I have some bad news: I won’t be able to make our sessions anymore. Tony gets back from his mission tomorrow so, from now on, I’m going to be one very busy lady.”

Bucky’s body tensed up, what was he going to do? How could he get through her day without the smell of her sweet perfume or her infectious laughter? How dare Tony steal his happiness from him!

Much to Bucky’s disgust, Rosemary wasn’t lying or even exaggerating. She always seemed to be doing something or going somewhere and elevator conversations turned into quick nods of acknowledgement as she flew past him on the way to an important meeting, hugs turned into small smiles as they connected eyes from different sides of a room. It was killing Bucky.

His nightmares blazed throughout the night, scorching his mind and covering his skin in a thick layer of sweat. His room became his sanctuary once again, as he missed movie nights and stayed away from the smallest sign of human contact.

But Bucky wasn’t the only one his isolation was affecting, Steve’s heart hung heavy in his chest as he watched his best friend fall backwards into a pit of sorrow. Steve had to do something.

“What the hell happened to you, Buck?” Steve exclaimed, his throat dry and sore. Seeing Bucky like this filled him with so much pain and he couldn’t take it anymore.

Turning his head to look straight into Steve’s eyes, Bucky’s own eyes filled with tears. “I think I fell in love,” he croaked out. The look in Bucky’s eyes was indescribable; they were coated with a raging insufferable ache that turned his grey eyes dark with despair.

“Buck…” Steve sighed, reaching out to comfort his friend, his breath full of unease.

“Go on. Tell me that my feelings aren’t real, that I’m imagining them.” Bucky taunted, his voice laced with spite.

“I wasn’t going to say that,” Steve replied, averting his gaze to the floor.

“Yes, you were! You were going to say exactly that, just in the overly polite language that comes out of your mouth. I’ve had enough of people telling me what to feel and what not to feel.” The volume of Bucky’s voice increased as his body turned to stone; the only inclination of his true emotions was that sad look in his eyes.

Just as Steve was about to bombard Bucky with questions about his strong feelings of affection, it all fell into place. One word explaining it all: Rosemary. Without realising it she had strung Bucky along, every time they met he had latched more of himself onto her until Tony came back and she left. Steve would understand if Bucky had described it as a crush but love? How could you feel such strong feelings towards someone who was dating your enemy?

That was the thing: Bucky had no idea. Not wanting Bucky to hate her like he hated Tony, Rosemary had kept it from him. Her intentions were innocent but she’d wound up breaking Bucky’s heart into a million pieces. There was so much Bucky didn’t know that he’d filled the gaps with his own explanations about his arm driving Rosemary away, how she grew scared of him, how she got bored of his company and would now do anything to stay out of his way.

How was Steve going to explain the truth to Buck?

“She’s not the one for you, Buck, and you know it. There’s a difference between being in love with a person and being in love with the idea of that person. Or, maybe it’s the idea of having someone but she’s not yours to have.” Steve didn’t know how else to say it. But Bucky obviously didn’t take it the right way as he quickly stood up, mumbling phrases of hatred directed towards the world under his breath.

Steve was lost, he didn’t know what he could say nor do that would make it better. Maybe there wasn’t anything he could do.

“She’s dating Tony.” The words left his mouth before he could stop them tumbling out, he didn’t want to say it but someone had to tell Bucky and if Rosemary wouldn’t then it was up to Steve.

Bucky stopped, each word slicing a fresh wound into his heart.

“They’ve been dating for what seems like forever. Yes, that time has been filled with breaks here and there but at the end of the day, they always manage to wind up in each other’s arms. I’m not trying to manipulate your feelings, or whatever you’re accusing me of but, Buck, do you even know what you’re feeling?”

Bucky gathered his broken pieces together and kept walking.

“She’s truly a lovely person; she’s intelligent, kind, confident and normal. She doesn’t have a dark past or a hidden super power, the world doesn’t plaster her face in every museum known to man and a secret organisation doesn’t try and take her down. But that doesn’t mean she’s the right person for you. Someone is out there waiting for you to be their hero in shining armour but that girl isn’t Rosemary. She already her hero, she has Tony.”

Bucky was soon out of sight as he rushed away, fearing the words would blow out the small flame of happiness he felt inside him.

“I just don’t want to see you get hurt.” Steve cried, consumed with grief at the sight of his friend falling apart right before his eyes and he realised it was too late. Bucky was already torn into pieces.

Days and night soon merged into one as time was not a concept that interested Bucky anymore, he had to let himself grieve and he didn’t care how long it took. Steve’s words had brought him a sense of comfort and he realised the images that he made up in his head were thankfully just a product of his imagination. Bucky had no choice but wait till his body fixed itself, there was no cure for heartbreak or way he would speed up the process but he was willing to wait. It would all work out in the end.

Bucky no longer isolated himself from his friends; he joined in on games night and had frequent competitions with Sam in the gym. He laughed and let himself enjoy the comfort of his closest companions. Of course, the itch inside his chest remained but with every passing moment, it started to fade.

Then, finally, one day it clicked.

The feelings Bucky had once felt were not love, they were just as complicated but not the same. More than anything, it was a sense of admiration that consumed him. He was awestruck by her confidence and charisma but didn’t want them for himself.

Rosemary was an excellent cook but his plum pies were better. Rosemary was a good fighter but Bucky’s metal arm always gave him the upper hand. Don’t get it wrong, it was not a competition to Bucky but he realised all he’d done was put himself down by comparing himself to Rosemary. He’d instilled his happiness in the thought of her and that was dangerous, it had caused him to lose himself. He was too focused on her excellence to appreciate his own. It was impossible to truly compare himself to someone else as, that person had not experienced the same things as Bucky, not had to deal with the same grief and happiness Bucky had been through.

He realised that now and he realised how Steve was right all along: Rosemary was not the girl for him.

Months had passed and Bucky’s heart had healed, he certainly wasn’t ready for another heartbreak but was, somewhat, putting himself out there. He’d gone on a few dates ranging from bad to beyond terrible and maybe it was because he wasn’t used to modern dating or maybe it was Sam whispering (the worst) advice into his ear but he’d decided to ‘go with the flow’. It would happen when the time was right and Bucky was prepared to wait.

To Bucky, dates felt staged and unnatural. The women always seemed to be both kinky as hell and extremely bad at hiding it or scared. Two things Bucky was certainly not ready for.

Walking into the coffee shop, he was caressed by the warm smell of cappuccinos and hot chocolates. The store had recently opened up and, despite its popularity, the queues were short and the drinks were of the highest standard- according to Scott anyway, not that the man needed coffee anytime of the day. But the thing that interested Bucky the most was that upstairs was a library, anytime from 6am-11pm you could waltz into the store grab a coffee, sit down and read your favourite book.

Once Bucky had grabbed his drink, he practically ran up the stairs in order to get his favourite seat in the house. Stuck in the corner next a massive window, Bucky could sit peacefully in silence while admiring the views of upstate New York.

Bucky read in order to calm his mind, the words were a lullaby to his soul that slowed the erratic beating of his heart and transported him to another reality. He could spend days pouring himself into the pages as the dusty old smell sung his mind to sleep. A mind that overworked and over thought, haunted by the taste of blood and the screams of innocents.

“Sir, would you like some more coffee?” Your quiet voice questioned, rescuing Bucky from his thoughts. Looking up Bucky was awe-struck and with a quick nod of his head, he drank you in.

There was a shyness to the woman before him and a softness in your voice, your beauty was not regular like super models but gleamed furiously in the delicate edges of your face and the swell of your lips. It was as if the stars had decided to rest inside the beauty of your eyes, wrapped up in the warm hues of your soul.

Your beauty was not something that could physically be held, it was not determined by the size of your jeans or the colour of your hair but flowed through the warm winds that rippled through your clothes and intertwined with the fiery passion that raced through your veins.

You were neither a model nor someone who walked down red carpets and men would not stare as you walked through the street, due to the fact you were not the embodiment of society’s twisted definition of beauty.

And you were simply not what Bucky had wished for, you were more.

kuroaka assassins!au based on this answered ask i posted

tl;dr: kuroo is an assassin hired to kill akaashi, akaashi figures out he’s being watched, he manages to catch kuroo and then uses….. v special means for his interrogation method B)

~2.5k words

Kuroo is hired to kill him. That’s the task that he’s given.

Not a terribly hard concept to understand, really, when your job is an assassin on the side. Kuroo does it for the money, but he also does it for the thrill. His victims are lucky, though, because he’s a merciful, quiet killer. He doesn’t make them suffer, even if his clients request it. He’s not a murderer, he’s just doing his fucking job.

sal-reblogs  asked:

Do you have any head canons?

I have literally written 2000 words on the mogami arc alone. If I posted every single one of my headcanons i’d kill everybody’s dash but here are some of my favorites:

-Autistic Mob!!!!

-Autistic Reigen!!!

-Autistic Tome!!!

-Ritsu is afraid of thunder (The sound reminds him of ???% explosion)

See also: Ritsu has seriously sensitive ears and he can hear lightbulbs going out, he can hear dog whistles, and literally a third of the reason why he doesn’t like Reigen is because Reigen has a plug in roach killer in his wall and it makes the most annoying ‘buzzing’ sound ever.

-Shou bribes Ritsu with candy to be his art model among other things

-Shou is very, v e r y touch deprived so he’s constantly trying to hug his friends

-Shou never realizes when he’s actually really fucking sick. He could vomit and still blame it on his allergies making him queasy.

-When Dimple was alive, alive he was a B-List actor who never made it truly big and he’s salty that he never got the recognition he deserved so thats what fueled the ‘i wanna be a god’ thing

See also: Reigen owns…every single one of his movies because thats Reigen’s favorite type of movie….Dimple will never e v e r tell Reigen that hes in all of them.

-Shou is afraid of the dark because bad things happen in the dark. (suprise attacks, bugs, ect…) and he sleeps with a nightlight

-REIGEN!!!! CAN!!!! SING!!!! (three separate links) and he wanted to become a singer when he grew up, but because children are awful little shits he stopped liking his own voice….buuuut….when Mob was getting sleepy on the way back from exorcisms Reigen would hum him a little lullaby so he could sleep easier!!!

-Shou has never ever been to school. Hes had some tutors before but He never got the chance to go to an actual school with actual people and sometimes he spies on Ritsu in his school because he’s kinda interested in the school life.

-Shou has no idea how to interact with kids his age. He talks about kids like hes an adult but really hes a kid too.

-Teru cannot dance. If he says he can hes lying. He can DDR but he c a n n o t d a n c e

-Mob still hangs out with that ghost fam!!!! Also the Saint hoshino girls!!!!

-Teruki never got the talk…..He accidentally saw an ecchi and was so traumatized he avoided girls for a month before he actually tried to figure out ‘wHA  T THE FUC K DID I JUST WATCH’

-Teruki’s favorite series is ____ Precure. He thinks magical girls are cute and he used to want to be one. (He also watched the magical boy anime)

-Shou never got taken to the fucking eye doctor and he needs glasses, and the first time he gets glasses hes like ‘oh…..vision isn’t supposed to be all fuzzy?’

-Teru is a theatre gay™

-When asked what dances he knew Seri did the caramelldansen and asked if it was still relevant….Reigen lost 10 years off of his life because of that.

-Shou doesn’t eat food unless hes has either watched it being made, or made it himself. This behavior concerns Reigen. He’ll eat prepackaged foods but only if he himself buys them or Ritsu or somebody else he trusts gives it to him.

-During the Mogami arc Mob had to eat his food fast or risk it be taken away, and also He didn’t have food at home very often so he’d often be very hungry…This causes him to eat really fast in the real world. He’ll eat an entire plateful of food in less than 5 minutes because hes subconsciously afraid it might get taken away again…

-Seri and Shou have an odd relationship. Sho had a mild distaste for Seri because he was his father’s lapdog…but also Seri has patched him up and cared for him a great number of times….Their relationship improves tenfold once Seri leaves Shou’s father

-Shou hates being in his actual house because its too large and too empty to be a home.

-Shou started art because it was like therapy.

-mob got into baking and cooking during the mogami arc because he felt like it was something he could do and profit from; however, mogami made sure none of it turned out great. it was always just half decent. but when he tries again out of the arc its actually really freaking good. it isn’t perfect. but its great and everybody who eats it is like ‘holy shit’ where’d you learn this but mob doesn’t know, because everything he’s ever made has been shit

-she’s impressed with muscles because she respects the hard work and determination behind gaining them. and everybody can get muscles right? That’s why she stopped caring about mob’s powers because it really was like impossible for other people to get it and so it grew boring to her-she doesn’t think just 'being great at something’ without the hard work behind being great is great at all idk

-She doesn’t like being forced into situations that’s why she’s so reluctant to be a dimple follower because 'what the fuck, who even is this guy. it’s just a tree. chill.

-hc that she thinks muscles are so cool that she actually decides to work out herself and she does judo

#secretlyablackbelt jkjk

but she’s pretty good and she likes the productivity of working hard for a goal.

-Tsubomi wears shorts under her skirts.

-Tsubomi is super touchy feely with her friends and she’s always holding hands or leaning on them or hugging them and sometimes she even kisses them!

-somebody asks her out randomly and her response is 'why’ because she’s never even met the dude before

HC (rfa+saeran) of MC being a huge troublemaker(like with the law and/or entire countries), or in a violent gang of some sort? thxxx

Okay so I had a lot of fun writing this, so as I do I went a little overboard with it. Also, the amount of research I did for this is crazy AND if the FBI is checking my browser history they now think that I am a drug cartel running serial killer looking for a hitman to hire. Great…anyway, I hope you enjoy. Also: this is only  || PART 1 || and here you have || PART 2 ||

Settling down with Zen had been astonishingly easy. For one, he was extremely devoted to everything he did, be it his work or his relationship to you. You never had to worry about him ever doing anything that would betray your trust in him. Considering your profession and background that was the key. Something that also helped was his devotion to his work. Most people would have complained about the irregular and long working hours, but for you they were a blessing. It made hiding what you did to get by a lot easier. He was never home, so you never had to explain where you went!

It wasn’t like you wanted to keep it a secret, really. By doing so you weren’t helping yourself but him. You weren’t exactly sure how the show biz worked, but if his agents weren’t fine with him dating a commoner you were quite sure they might suffer an aneurysm upon finding out that you and your biker gang basically ran multiple drug cartels. Keeping it a secret meant protecting him. Plus, he was always so happy when you didn’t complain about not being able to go public, thinking you were so understanding when in reality it was in your interest to remain on the down low as much as his.

For the most part keeping it a secret was easy. When he asked you about work you just told him you worked in import and export of goods. It wasn’t a lie, just a selective truth. The drugs never came into your home and you didn’t take them yourself, you only made a lot of money off of them. Sure, sometimes you had pangs of conscience about the poor souls you sold the shit to, but then again it was hardly your fault that people were weak enough to get addicted. It’s not like six-year-old you had dreamed about selling crack to junkies, but sometimes life happened and you had to suck it up.

It was when one of your main smugglers was shot during a gang fight that things became a little more complicated. All of your guys were out of the country which meant you had to take care of certain dirty work. The guy had managed to hide the stuff, but you knew better than to trust it was safely stored until some of your other men returned to collect it. Everyone in the business had their eyes and ears all over the world, which meant you had to do something and you had to do it quick. The drugs had to be picked up and stored somewhere they’d be safe and protected. Really, there was only one option.

Making sure that Zen wouldn’t be home at the same time as you you’d hopped on your bike and driven to the given location. Obviously it wasn’t like you could just walk in, get the suitcase full of crystallized LSD and walk out like a walk in the park. You could sell a single gram of that stuff for 3000$ counting and you had an entire suitcase full of that shit. People were quite literally ready to kill for that amount of high end drugs. This time you were on the receiving end of a bullet treatment. Before you knew the shooting had started and you had to flee the scene.

You had your own weapon, but your priority was the suitcase and really there was no time to pull it. You were outnumbered as well, so you ran out, willing away the pain you felt at the hits you took. Luckily only two bullets actually hit you, one of which merely gazed your shoulder, the other went straight to your lower back. Still, you kept running, jumped on your bike and drove off as fast as humanly possible. Your initial plan had been to hide them somewhere else, but you found yourself riding home. You needed to take care of your wounds and clear your head before proceeding.

The only problem was that apparently Zen had planned to surprise you. So when you dragged your body into the apartment with the most expensive drugs on the market in tow you weren’t alone. Instead you were greeted with the smell of your favourite dish being prepared a happily singing Zen. You’d been too out of it to retreat and that is when he’d turned around and taken in your disheveled shape. You were covered in dirts, cuts and bleeding from not one but two bullet wounds. Needless to say he had a lot of questions. “What the fuck happened?! Oh my God, we need to call an ambulance!”

As he ran to the phone you ran towards him, tackling him. “No! Zen, calm down. You need to listen to me and you need to understand what I’m telling you.” He didn’t calm immediately, insisting to at least clean and patch up your wounds before even letting you speak. With his background you weren’t surprised that he remained calm or that he knew how to patch up a bullet wound, really. “What’s in the suitcase”, he asked, voice calm and unwavering. “Expensive as fuck LSD”, you explained, chuckling to lighten the mood only to groan with pain when your body reminded you of the state you were in.

Zen sighed, shaking his head. “I can’t judge you nor will I preach to you about how what you’re doing is wrong. I’ve been there myself, but I know for a fact that there are other options”, he said and you couldn’t help but roll your eyes. “My parents are dead, I never finished high school and I don’t have a talent for anything other than this. I really don’t have other options.” Zen met your eyes, obviously annoyed, and flicked your forehead. “Look at you. Money is not worth dying for.” You snorted. “Oh please, my bike looks worse. Anyway, can I stash the drugs here?” He shrugged and merely kissed.

When you’d first started dating Yoosung most people in your life had been more than a little bewildered by your choice in partner. Where you were mature, he was childish. Your calm was met by his overly excited personality and even your interest seemed to clash. On top of that everyone felt like you were more like a caretaker to him than he was a boyfriend to you and they could not fathom while a woman like you would stoop down to such a level by dating a man-child like him. In short, he could not compare to your caliber and yet the two of you seemed to magically work somehow.

What most people didn’t understand – couldn’t, as it was a part of your personality and life you never shared – was your love for everything innocent and if Yoosung was one thing than it was innocent. He practically radiated it for the entire world to sense and it drew you in like a moth to the flame. His endless naivety you found charming and his ‘flaw’ of getting too attached and dependent on the women in his life was something you thoroughly enjoyed. He basically gave up all control for you to take. Your word was quite literally his demand. Frankly, you wondered why other people didn’t see the appeal.

On top of that he never pushed for anything. You knew for a fact that you were his first kiss, his first girlfriend and his sexual experience. You were the only human being that had ever laid hands on him and if that wasn’t a pleasant thought you didn’t know what else to tell those people. He was yours and yours completely. He was also considerate, sweet and attentive without pushing you. He never demanded sex. He never cornered you. He never forced you to things you didn’t want to do. Especially things based on stereotypes like cleaning and cooking. He made you feel free, compared to others.

It was precisely that feeling that allowed you to open up about yourself. Out of all the people you’d had in your life you were sure that he would understand you. Still, obviously you didn’t overwhelm him with your personality and needs, so you turned your confession into a longer process. It started with little, subtle hints. You told him that if you could, you would kill certain people, but he brushed it off as an empty phrase. When you disappeared out at night a lot and he asked you what you were doing you told him you were cleansing the streets of disgusting men. He took it as a joke.

After that you continued but with a little more obviousness. You wanted him to realize it himself, so you had to be obvious enough, but still make sure that the other RFA members didn’t get what you were trying to confess. You started being reckless about hiding your bloody knifes or left blood stains in your clothes, but Yoosung never reacted to any of those, completely oblivious it seemed. You reckoned that hints just weren’t enough, not with him. He was just too innocent and too pure. You also figured that there was a certain layer of denial within him you had to break through. Well, there goes nothing!

It was a normal, sunny day when you finally took the last step into opening up about who you really were. When Yoosung came home from work in the evening you greeted him with a sight he would never forget. The majority of the living room floor was covered by tarp, amidst of it a lonely chair with a man tied to it. A rope tied his legs to the chair while his arms were bound behind his back with what looked like cable ties. He was gagged but not blindfolded, as you weren’t scared of him seeing you. It’s not like he would ever get to tell the tale, so you were safe in that regard.

Yoosung froze, eyes widening as he took in the scene. He quickly slammed the door shut and covered his mouth so he wouldn’t scream. When he looked to you there was a bright grin on your face. Your wore an apron and latex gloves and from that and the knife you yielded in your hand effortlessly he deduced it wasn’t you who was in danger. “Surprise”, you called like you’d planned some kind of birthday party for him. He started to shiver, eyes snapping between you and the man who was obviously trying to, but because of the gag incapable of, ask Yoosung for help.

“W-What…what is this”, he asked, voice shaking. Your smile was replaced by a pout. “This is me”, you said. “I’m bearing all of me to you. Don’t you want to get to know all of me, Yoosung?” Strangely enough, he did. He wanted to know all of you no matter how much it frightened him. “Are you…will you kill this man?” You beamed again and nodded. “Yes, I will. Right here so you can watch me do it. Men like him deserve to die. They approach me all the time, talk to me like dirt and touch me inappropriately. This one actually tried to rape me”, you explained, knife tracing the mans skin.

Yoosung watched you cut the man apart, piece by piece. Watched you as you drained him of every last drop of blood. He was torn between disgust and fascination, incapable of averting his eyes. He watched as of all colour left his body and then saw the light in his eyes flicked and faint. Dead. “Why did you show me this”, he asked, astounded by how calm he remained in the face of this. You grinned, walking over the dead body like it was dirt to get to Yoosung. You were so close he could feel your hot breath ghost over his cheeks as you whispered: “Because I want you to join me, my knight in shining armour.”

It had been your free day, so you’d decided to use your time productively and go to the grocery store. Your fridge had been gradually getting emptier and after stuffing your faces with cakes and pastry all day it was about time Jaehee and you finally ate something healthy again. You knew all her favourite dishes and with those in mind you got everything you needed to prepare them. It had been a while since your last proper date, actually. Most people thought that once you live and work together dating is no longer necessary, but you kindly disagreed. One should always show appreciation!

With two heavy bags in hand you’d entered the apartment, humming to some tune stuck in your head. You’d tossed your keys into the bowl next to the door and kicked it shut, careful not to be too loud. You’d been so eager to get started as you carried the groceries to the kitchen only to stop in your tracks when you saw the figure leaning against the table, looking at the knife in his hands with the kind of interest you knew would turn out to be dangerous for you. He looked up then, grinning at you from ear to ear. You should have been frightened and yet you found yourself deadly calm.

“What are you doing here, Nam-Il”, you asked as you put down the bags and started to unload them, not paying the man a lot of attention. “I came to get you, obviously”, he replied. You didn’t turn around to look at him, but you could feel his eyes tracking your every move. “I think I made it quite obvious that I have no intention of being with you, Nam. I am not yours to take.” You’d just finished getting everything out of the bag when you heard the quiet steps behind you. You spun around quickly, hands tightened around the knife you’d grabbed. Your blade poked at his stomach, his was at your throat.

He grinned at you, obviously amused. “As fierce as ever I see. I missed you, babe.” You growled at him angrily, poking a little harder to let him feel the blade properly. “I wish I could say the same.” It was obviously that moment that Jaehee chose to enter the apartment and come to the kitchen. All three of you were frozen until she started to scream. You and Nam lowered your knives and put them away respectively, but didn’t stop glaring at one another. “Jaehee, babe, please calm down”, you told her, demeanour instantly softening the second she was the one addressed.

“Calm down?! This man was in the news! He’s a from that mafia gang Hwan Song Sung Pa and just bought his way out of prison despite getting a life long sentence and I get home to you having his knife at your throat and you tell me to calm?!” Well, when she put it that way, her reaction certainly made more sense than your suggestion. “I know this might seem really bad to you, but don’t worry. He’d never hurt me.” Jaehee whimpered. “And how do you know that?” Nam snorted, crossing his arms over his chest. “Because she is my wife and I’d never hurt her…much.”

The answer obviously floored Jaehee from the way her face fell and body sagged with utter defeat. You glowered at Nam. “I haven’t been your wife since your dumb ass decided to get caught killing a man earning yourself a life-long sentence in prison”, you snapped at him. He just grinned and shrugged. “Well I am back now, am I not? Come on, babe, you know this kind of life isn’t for you. When the guys told me you were playing relationship with another chick I told them to leave you alone, because I was sure that you would realize that you aren’t cut out for this kind of boring bullshit.”

“Just shut the fuck up, will you”, you snapped at him, holding back as to not slap him. “Just leave, Nam. You’re scaring my girlfriend. We can talk about this another time. I have enough explaining to do as it is. I don’t need your dumb ass making the situation worse.” You were exasperated and exhausted at the same time. Luckily he didn’t protest. He merely pressed a kiss to your cheek, something you decided to allow despite your past together, and left. You leaned against the counter, head hanging low. So your good for nothing husband was out and about and your girlfriend was having a breakdown.

“Y-Your husband?!” You turned to look at her, apologetic and tired. “It was an arranged marriage of convenience. My father used to work with his people and Nam got obsessed with me. Thinking that I would take over his business my father married be off, so Nam and I could rule the ‘underworld’ together. It didn’t work out. I hated that life so I ran away and he got locked up.” Jaehee nodded, still in obvious shock. “Do you…love me?” Your eyes widened, heart breaking. “Of course I love you! I love our café, I love our apartment and I love our domestic life. I wouldn’t change it for the world.”

Jaehee started to cry then, tears running down her cheeks in streams like you’d never seen them before. You instantly jumped into motion, running towards her to pull her into your arms, do everything in your power to calm her down. She shook in your arms, crying so badly in shook your whole world apart. “I am so sorry I out you through this. So, so sorry”, you whispered into her ear, pressing a kiss to her temple. “I promise I’ll take care of it and then you’ll never have to see me or Nam ever again.” She shook her head. “No, don’t leave me!” So against your better judgement you stayed.

Despite getting married very quickly the two of you were going strong even years into your relationship. Despite a meticulous daily routine that to most would seem caging and tiring the romance and lust never quite died down. In fact, with every passing day it seemed to get more and more intense. The need to be close to one another all the time grew to the point where Jumin offered you the position as his Chief Assistant just so he could have you around all day long. Logically he knew that there were possibly more qualified people for the job, but his heart always beat his mind when it came to you.

His need to be with you was very well reflected in you as well, which lead you to accept the offer without a second thought. At that time you’d been married for about two months. Everyone had advised you against it, stating that couples who both lived and worked together were doomed to fail. The two of you proved them wrong. Not only did the two of you avoid any kind of fights or fallouts, you also turned out a far better addition to the company than most people had assumed. You knew how to handle the finances better than Jumin’s and when you were in a meeting you usually ran the show.

Everything had been so peaceful and perfect you’d allowed yourself to relax, let your guards down. It was a stupid mistake. Being the person you were with the background you had you could never allow yourself such luxury and life loved to remind you of that. You’d been in the middle of eating dinner with Jumin, soft music playing in the background as you smiled at one another while enjoying yet another perfect meal. That is when his phone chimed with a call that would shake apart your idyllic routine in the matter of minutes, a call you’d expected as much as you’d suppressed it.

He’d excused himself from the table, apologizing for having to take the call and telling you he’d be right back. Even with the door to the office closed you could hear him talk angrily, catching enough glimpses of the conversation to put two and two together. “What the hell kind of interest could Chil Sung Pa possibly have in our company”, you heard him asked, obviously aggravated. Your heart had sunk upon hearing the familiar name, hairs standing up as your body froze in position. You listened to the rest of the conversation and yet you barely registered anything out of pure shock.

By the time he left the office the food had grown cold and so had Jumin. He was tense and nervous, walking up and down the flat while brushing through his hair. You’d never seen him like that and yet you weren’t surprised. The Korean mafia wasn’t to be taken lightly, you knew that better than anyone. For a couple of minutes you let him pace around, walk off some of the pent up energy that must have been buzzing through his body. Once he’d sunken down on the couch, hands in a prayer like position pressed to his lips as he deeply contemplated what the best thing was to do.

You sat beside him, wrapping an arm around his shoulder and pressing a kiss to his temple. Surprisingly he melted into the touch soon, actually leaning against you with a sigh, body relaxing soon. “Apparently Chil Sung Pa is trying to either buy our company or set on destroying it. I don’t understand where their sudden interest is coming from, but if I don’t find a solution soon we might find ourselves losing the company”, he explained, looking at you with an expression you could hardly put into words. He looked like a child lost somewhere without hope of returning. It broke your heart.

“Listen, why don’t you let me handle this one? I think you might be a little too emotionally involved. I mean you have dedicated your entire life to this company so the possibility of you losing it might make you too irrational. Those kind of people can sniff out even the slightest insecurity like a blood hound and they’ll use it against you. I’ll keep my cool and I’ll manage to convince them to back off, no problem.” You were grateful that Jumin agreed without much hesitation, because it meant he hadn’t even questioned why you knew how Chil Sung Pa worked exactly.

When the next morning came you met up with one of the representatives that had been send to the C&R International building to discuss the future of the company. Despite the protests of your co-workers no one but you was allowed in that particular meeting, not even Jumin or Mr. Han himself. You knew it was for the best that way. The meeting didn’t last long, twenty minutes at most. When you left the office it was the clan member that held open the door for you as you confidently strode out of the room. He bowed deeply to you, seemingly scared, before practically scrambling away.

“They withdrew their attack on C&R”, you announced, an audible gasp going through the rows of workers that had gathered. “How?” It was such a simple question and yet it was difficult to answer. “Because my father is the head of Chil Sung Pa which makes me the heir to his empire and he knows better than to mess with my life and business.” Needless to say it left people flabbergasted, surprised and scared. “You are the daughter of a mafia mogul”, Jumin asked. You shrugged and smiled at him apologetically. “Right when I thought my wife could not get any more interesting…”

The two of you had been peacefully sitting on the couch, Saeyoung typing away on his laptop while you read your book when you heard the movement around the apartment. The last couple of years had been domestic bliss for the both of you, but you’d known better than to fully settle as your past always found a way to come back to bite you in the ass. You instantly put down the cup of tea you’d been sipping on and the book, before shutting Saeyoung’s laptop and covering his mouth. “Go to your work room and lock yourself in. Don’t come out before I tell you to”, you whispered into your husbands ear.

Without much time to act you’d gripped his wrist and dragged him off, pushing him into his bunker-like work room and shut the door behind him. After that you had to act incredibly fast, quickly running through the basement apartment that you knew was no infiltrated by some of your former colleagues. Or at least you thought they were colleagues, the line between friends and enemy’s had always been blurred during your years at your old agency. Luckily, you’d always slept with an eye open, running to gather up the weapons you’d hid all over the apartment in preparation for this exact situation.

You were the first one to come out of hiding, showing yourself in order to spark what was unavoidable at this point: A shooting. “I expected you to show up much sooner”, you’d called mockingly. “Did you guys grow soft on me? Wanted me to have some happy ever after for a while before blowing my brains out? How nice, but the game is over now. Come on out now, wherever you are.” The fight that followed was brutal. You shot at least five men, the others you were forced to kill in a more direct manner. One after the other fell until you were the only one left standing.

When Saeyoung emerged from his room he did so to a bloodbath, corpses lying scattered around what you’d called home for the past couple of years. You said amidst them, holding onto your stomach where one of them had managed to stab you. Without turning to look at him you said: “I didn’t come to get you yet. Disobedience can cost you your life, you know? I would know…” Saeyoung stood frozen by the door, taking the scene in as his mind seemed to fail processing half of the thoughts he was thinking, let alone the things he was feeling. Who was the person he’d called his wife?

“What organization do you work for?” You chuckled bitterly, turning around to look at Saeyoung, blood still gushing from your wound. “Does it matter? After the stunt they pulled today I’ll make sure the organization won’t exist for much longer.” He’d fallen in love with an illusion, Saeyoung realized as he heard a bitterness in your voice he’d never heard before. “I am seriously surprised to see you this shocked, agent 707. All this time I was so sure you knew who I was but chose to ignore it in favour of domestic bliss but from that expression right there I can tell you really didn’t. What a plottwist.”

The sweet, innocent girl he’d married was gone, Saeyoung knew. Then again, could something be gone when it hadn’t been there to begin with? Still, he felt drawn to you, incapable of staying away. He stepped towards you, inspected your wound before going to get a first aid kid to patch it up at least to some extend. You could only laugh. “Why are you doing this? Everything was a lie. Did you really think a normal person could love you? Stick by your side despite everything you put them through? I was sent by my agency to kill you! Do you still think that you’re the dangerous one?”

Despite your harsh words Saeyoung didn’t stop tending to your wound, if anything his touch became lighter and even more gentle than before. He cleaned it and stitched it up to the best of his abilities without saying a word. Only when he was done did he look up, meeting your eyes and nodded. “Yes, because I made someone like you fall in love with someone like me.” Your harsh facade broke, tears springing to your eyes at the broken way he said those words, like he was still unbelieving of the fact that anyone in this world could love him. How could think so little of himself still?

You wrapped your arms around him, burying your fingers in his soft hair while brushing up and down his back soothingly. “You are good, Saeyoung. If anyone deserves someone better it’s you”, you whispered gently. He quickly untangled himself from you, looking at you with such desperation in his eyes it ripped at your heart. “Please don’t leave me”, he begged you. “I don’t care about what went down here today. I know you are more than the mistakes you’ve made…as you taught me much the same. The problems of your past are your business. The problems of your future are my privilege.”

And he meant every last word. At first you thought about saying no, pushing him away and leaving like you knew you should have done, but you found yourself incapable of doing so. You loved this broken man before you and you’d finally found someone who loved you just as much in return despite seeing the cracks in the glass. How could you ever let go of someone like that? You nodded and kissed, sealing the deal amidst of the danger literally surrounding you. After that the two of you wordless got up, got rid of all the bodies and blood and by the time Saeran returned him, nothing had ever happened.

You’d never imagined that you’d ever be able to fully and completely separate your private life from your profession, but with Saeran by your side you’d finally found some sort of peace. Life wasn’t always perfect – it got messy and exhausting at times – but those were the things that made it interesting. Both of you were fundamentally damaged people, but within all the darkness and pain in your respective hearts you’d somehow fund a spot for the other person to call their own and an interesting relationship had blossomed as the result of that.

At first the two of you were desperately trying to avoid a relationship and each of you had a lot of rather valid reasons for doing so. Saeran was broken from the inside out and in no way fit to care for another person in the state he was in that didn’t even allow him to care for himself. You, on the other hand, couldn’t allow yourself any permanent ties to the mundane world thanks to the profession you called your own. You’d learned from the mistakes of your predecessor and had no desire to drag someone into the messes you made along the way. Let alone some dear to your heart…like Saeran.

Somehow the attraction you had for one another defeated all reason, however, and the two of you found yourself in a messy and yet strangely perfect relationship. You constantly gave each other shit and fights were a given and yet you made one another better. After a certain time things just clicked into place and you were truly and undeniably happy. So much so, you were convinced things would stay that way. You’d been sure that you’d keep on dragging his ass to therapy while he’d remind you to take some steps back and enjoy small things in life, like clouds in a clear, blue sky. You were wrong.

About two years into your relationship with Saeran your questionable background finally caught up to you. You’d expected it, but not quite as soon. You were on every wanted list from the National Intelligence Service to the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office of the Republic of Korea. You had a price on your head and you were unwilling to let Saeran pay it. Luckily this particular matter was not shared with the media, which meant that at least you didn’t have mugshots of you plastered on every wall in Korea. It gave you the chance of a clean sleight. Pack your stuff and disappear without a trace.

Everything had been perfectly planned on your part. Your things were either packed or destroyed, your traces were evaporated and you’d made it impossible for anyone to track or trace your moves. All that was left to do was take your stuff and leave. It would have been so easy, had you not underestimated your boyfriends involvement in the down world. You’d just swung your bag over your shoulder, ready to leave, when he stopped you in his tracks by leaning against the doorframe, arms crossed and a disapproving expression on his face. “I cannot believe that you’d actually leave me like that. Harsh.”

“Saeran, listen, it’s not like that I can -”, he silenced you then by merely raising his hand. “Explain? You don’t need to. Codename: MC. Profession: Hitman and Whistleblower. Hit-Rate: 100%. Prices per hit start at 20.000$ as you work internationally and your job as a blower earns you about 500.000$ per case as you work in groups of maximum three blowers at the time to earn as much as possible”, he recited all your info like a poem he’d learned off by heart. Your shoulders sagged, bag falling to the floor as he grinned at you. “Did you really think I didn’t know?”

You honestly couldn’t believe that all this time he knew of your shady doings and said absolutely nothing. You closed the distance between the two of you and started punching at his chest, causing him to break out laughing. “You goddamn asshole! I was carrying the guilt of keeping it a secret every single day and you knew all along! I can’t believe you”, you half scolded, half laughed. He caught your hands eventually, holding them together and raising them to his lips to press a kiss to your skin. “Well, that is the price you pay for keeping it a secret in the first place.”

You probably should have been more concerned about the fact that your boyfriend wasn’t even mildly concerned with the fact that you were basically a murderer rather than the fact he’d teased you with having known all along, but frankly there wasn’t a single care in you. “I am also mad that I had to pay for all our dinners. I mean look at the fucking money you make. Don’t expect me to treat you to anything ever again”, he joked and however inappropriate it might have been to say such things, you burst out laughing. “Fair enough, I guess. Then again, I do work hard for that money.”

His lips curled into a wicked grin, eyes shining with something dark and mischievous. “If they caught you, you still have a lot to learn.” Just from the way he said it a hot shiver ran down your body and you moved closer, returning that very same grin. “And I presume that you’re going to teach me?” As you spoke your lips were almost touching, so close you could feel the proximity. Instead of replying Saeran merely pulled you closer, nails digging into your hips as he pushed you up against the wall. He claimed your lips with a kiss then, hard, passionate and bruising.

You open your eyes and find yourself face-to-face with your laptop, which kept you up until well past four in the morning. At the time, binge watching your favorite show on Netflix had felt like a wonderful idea. Now, due to the exhaustion that clings desperately to your bones, you realize that staying up so late probably wasn’t such a great plan after all.

A sliver of silver reflection.

I remember years ago, while working in C-Sec there was this case where Turian children kept disappearing on one of the wards. Posters were popping up on every street corner, countless faces. Within weeks the outpost I was stationed at was packed with dozens of Turian parents begging for their children to be found. Often mothers doing most of the talking while the fathers were either out trying to find their sons and daughters themselves or simply did what they could to somehow get us to work harder on figuring out what in spirits name was going on. This was all happening within my first year as a C-Sec officer, before I got moved up to investigations at the C-Sec HQ.

My immediate thought was to figure out where all these kids were from and after a few days of asking around and looking through the public records of all the parents that had approached us I was able to narrow it down to a half dozen blocks of residential buildings. A mostly Turian enclave area of the Citadel with some Volus and Elcor mixed in, maybe even the occasional Salarian.

One thing I noticed was how quiet the streets were. For an area that housed over ten thousand residents, the main streets were mostly empty. The local park had the occasional shady figure who would run off if you tried to get close, but for the most part it was also empty.

I walked down a few dozen more blocks, out of the enclave and into the Asari/Salarian dominated area of the ward. Children and families were noticeably making up over half of the locals walking by. Asari school groups, and the occasional Salarian cluster created the kind of bustle you would expect.

Growing up on Cipritine I was accustomed to streets filled with other children playing war, and building forts out of dumpsters and cardboard in back alleys and raiding the bases other ‘factions’ of kids who were part of different educational regiments or schools.

As a kid I was much more fascinated with tearing things apart and figuring out why they work and trying to improve them or splice them into something else.

Sol, my sister, took after me in this aspect a little as she got past her infant years my tools and projects would often go ‘missing’ often ending up under her bed or hidden in a closet.

I was never the kind of kid who was into reckless violence and growing up unless I had some kind of conviction for what I was doing. I only ever got into one fight with this one kid named Valaksus because he kept harassing the smaller kids. Ended up breaking his arm, and dislocating his other shoulder; I only walked away with a bloody face. We ended up moving to the outskirts of the city after that.

I could see the value in something like hand to hand as a form of protection for myself and others. Aside from that, if I didn’t believe in learning something I never really gave it my full attention much to the frustration of my father. I hated rifle training and hunting trips when I was young, needless violence, and why did I have to kill them? I always had a moral high ground of thinking people could, with enough persuasion see things my way and that violence could be avoided. My dad tried to help me understand that the convictions of the self and the convictions of the cause must always be worth dying for, and while this may seem close minded as I argued, he pointed out that some people’s causes are for peace and for helping others like he was with his job at C-Sec. keeping an open mind is always important when dealing with so many different people he said; but sometimes violence is necessary. Sometimes people need to die, and it is their conviction to their wrong doing that decides their fate. When I asked him how he decides who lives and dies he simply said their lives weren’t up to him; and that whether they needed to die or not wasn’t a choice he could make as a cop, but rather a personal belief he had to set aside for a noble cause: Staying within the lines of the law and of civility.

So walking around on the Turian enclave later that night while off duty I happened to pass by an alley when I saw a kid out of the corner of my eye at the far end.

She ran off before I could say anything, and given the lack of any other kids in the area and the fact that they’ve been going missing, I ran after her. Down the alley, through some fences, and two residential buildings I followed her to this basement under some shabby restaurant that had closed years ago.

Ended up upon this ring of Turians who were selling the kids to Batarian slavers and auctioning others to Krogans who wanted to take their revenge out on the Turians who put their species down with the genophage. The kids couldn’t fight back. The kids would get shipped out to other parts of the citadel and would be beaten to death and disposed of, even cooked afterwards by some of the Krogan, most of the kids were homeless but as they ran out of those, they started taking the ones who had families just to keep the business going.

Even to this day I can’t recall the firefight that ensued, or even fully recall tracking down every monstrous customer of this nightmare from the ledger I found and doing the world the service of removing them from it. I had never in my life experienced such an intense rage towards another person or group of people.

I killed them all. Every single one.

When my dad found out he was furious. Yelled at me about fair trial and following the rule book. Especially when it came to those that I had tracked down.

He ended up covering the whole thing up, aside from giving me credit for shutting down the crime ring, which gave the promotion to the investigations unit, no one ever really knew or found out about everyone who had bought the kids. Several of them were returned to their families after a couple raids on batarian slavers weeks later, and the ones I saved that night went home the next day. The young girl I had followed had managed to escape and led me to where she was taken, before running home once she knew I would enter the building. Turns out she knew I was a cop because she had seem me on patrol weeks before. Within weeks the enclave seemed to be no different from the streets back home.

But he covered the whole thing up.

It was the only corrupt thing he had ever done in all his years at C-Sec. I know damn well I would have lost my job and probably gone to prison for murder.

But… they had to die. Of this I was fully convinced.

From then on my relationship with him got even harder, we hardly talked, and anytime we did, it was either him lecturing me or both of us arguing. I began to loathe all the rules and red tape the came with the job and after what I had witnessed.

The capability for unimaginable cruelty of other people. I always had more of a mind that taking these kinds of scum off the streets in such a way that they could never harm anyone ever again was worth whatever means it took to accomplish that, even if it meant bending or breaking some of the rules.

This is how I went about my job at C-Sec for years, each year feeling more and more restrained by the rules that felt like they were only there to help the bad guys get away. People like Dr. Saleon.

And then I met Shepard, this… amazing human who taught me how short sighted my frustrations had left me. Who showed me more than I ever would have learned with C-Sec. She showed me the direct approach of convincing others to see her side or dealing with them if they won’t. Who had the ability to set out the ideals I had as a kid and put them into practice in the real world. And who’s combat ability was a terrifying force to be reckoned with. The first few missions with her I caught myself distracted by how quickly she moved from target to target, clearing rooms faster than I had ever seen. The Geth, and the Pirates, Mercs, assassins. The minute she arrived they didn’t stand a chance.

I aspired to be like her. How even with merc bands smart enough to talk first, she would give them the opportunity to leave, rather than shooting them first. Always offering the handshake first and the barrel of a gun second.

Every encounter with Saren she fought him through words as well as weapons, and her spirit never seemed to back down. Her influence was so great she was able to convince him to take his own life, the last act of defiance against Sovereign. A power with words I had never seen in my entire life.

It was as if she was glowing and I was careful to absorb all I could from her and to be at her side no matter the situation.

After Saren, I went back to C-Sec with a renewed fire and passion for serving; for protecting those who couldn’t protect themselves. And even though the frustration of the red tape was almost immediately apparent, I kept my head held high, and always offered the handshake and a way out, before going for the gun. Those months I brought in more criminals alive and unharmed (mostly) than I had ever done in entire years of working with C-Sec. Many of them recognized me next to Shepard on the vids of the battle for the Citadel, cutting through Geth heavy lines and kind of gave up as soon as I showed up to whatever operation they had going so I guess that made the job a little easier.

Intimidation wasn’t something I was used to, but I learned how useful it was in ending fights before they even began.

 And then Shepard died.

It’s still kind of hard to talk about or clearly recall.

It felt like losing a part of myself, and life on the Citadel fell apart.

The constant drug busts and same scenario criminal kingpin wanna be’s made me feel like I wasn’t accomplishing anything.

I was losing it.

Everything Shepard had taught me, everything we accomplished.

Everything she taught me to be, everything that I was and wanted to be.

I was losing control of it all.

I had to do something.

Had to stop the problem at the source.

It’s what she would have done.

I Ended up drifting for a few months from colony to colony in the terminus systems looking for trouble as I went before losing my way all the way to Omega.

I needed a cause to believe in and Omega was no shortage of causes.

And well… Heh… I’m sure your familiar with how that went down hmm?

When Shepard came back from the dead it felt like a part of myself that I had lost had been restored. I fought better, the banter came natural, I could let my guard down around her. I could truly feel like myself around her.

No way was a I about to let a rocket to the face cut short what had been returned to me only moments prior. Though I’m sure how high I was off the stims might of affected how i was feeling. Three days straight of shooting bad guys can make even me a little… whats that human word? Cookoo?

With Shepard back in my life I could feel more myself, and I could let my guard down around her, even more so than back when we took down Saren. It felt more natural this time round for us to be just us.

Just like old times, but better still.

And with very few people onboard the Cerberus ship that we felt like we could trust (I removed like three dozen hidden cameras and audio devices from the forward battery, as well as a algorithm tracker from my terminal) It was only normal that we turned to each other more and more. Old friends, a hard thing to find back then.

And then after Shepard helped me with Sidonis, and the way Kaiden reacted to Shepard on Horizon, I suppose I should have expected Shepard to want more than friendship, me being the only one she could fully trust. And well… being completely honest that caught me completely off guard.

It was… nerve wracking and awkward, but the more we felt out our feelings the more natural it became, the more… right it was and the more we could feel like ourselves. And this innate need to find ourselves in each other and to support each other defined every aspect of who we were, and spirits be dammed if I ever let anything happen to her because I know I’ll lose myself as well.

It’s a kind of belonging of the soul that I think we all strive for, and I couldn’t be more at peace with having found my place in this world by Shepards side.

Because as I’m sure you know.

There really is no Shepard without Vakarian.

And damn does being me feel good.
