  1. In the anime, the Inner Senshi had transformation pens that were almost identical (except in sign and colour), but in the manga Sailor Venus had a different pen from when she was Sailor V.
  2. The transformation pens are short and round in the anime, while in the manga they are longer and more cylinder-shaped.
  3. Despite that the transformation devices are pens, the Inner Senshi never wrote with them in the anime.

Plot: After defeating the Black Moon, the Sailor Senshi encounter a new monster.


  • While getting Naru and Umino to safety, Mamoru could have revealed Usagi and the other girs’ Sailor Senshi identities. In the manga chapter, Mamoru (or rather the writing) was not as careless.
  • In the manga, Ami, Rei, Makoto, and Minako performed their new “Planet Power” transformations without any tools.


  • Moon Cosmic Power Make Up, Mercury Planet Power Make Up, Mars Planet Power Make Up, Jupiter Planet Power Make UpVenus Planet Power Make Up, Jupiter Coconut CycloneVenus Wink Chain Sword, and the Deep Aqua Mirror were all shown for the first time.
  • Haruka Tenou and Michiru Kaiou were both introduced.
  • Hotaru Tomoe, Kaolinite, and Pharaoh 90 all appeared, but only the latter was named.
  • Daimon monsters were first seen in this episode.
  • The Taioron Crystal was first mentioned here. It was left out altogether from the classic anime.
  • This was Chiaki Kon’s first episode as a director. Kon also replaced Munehisa Sakai as the series director.
  • There were new animation sequences for the opening credits and ending credits.
  • The new opening and ending theme songs, respectively “New Moon ni Koi Shite” (Fall in Love with the New Moon) and “eternal eternity,” were first heard in this episode.
  • There were two new eyecatches, each individually featuring Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus.
