Party like it’s 1776: toast the founding fathers with a colonial-era cocktail

Find that patriotic feeling this weekend by stirring up our founding father’s favorite cocktails | Follow these recipes

Fun 4th of July Drinking Facts:

  • George Washington owned a distillery that produced rye
  • The julep found popularity in America even before the the first shots were fired in the Revolutionary War. Born in Virginia, the julip was made with rum or brandy, not bourbon as it is today
  • The popular cocktail called The Stone Fence purportedly played a supporting role in the Revolutionary War itself, when patriot Ethan Allen and his Green Mountain Boys were able to easily overtake a Fort Ticonderoga commanded by British forces sodden with the drink
  • The colonial-era working classes mainly indulged in beer and cider, while those who could afford it looked to Europe to slake their thirst, with old-world elixirs like madeira, sherry and Holland gin

Loud minority of the Flash Fandom: Barry should be with Caitlin, or Patty, or anyone but Iris. There’s so much chemistry with the other girls and they have so much in common. I like Iris but I just don’t see it, they’re more like siblings to m–

Barry Allen: Nope, sorry, I love the black girl.

Loud Minority of the Preacher fandom: Jesse should be with Cassidy, or at least Emily, anyone but Tulip. There’s just so much chemistry with the other two. Cassidy already has his back and cares about him so much. Emily can help him be a better man. I like Tulip, but I don’t know, just not with Jesse. She’s kind of deranged, and her and Jesse seem more like work buddies to m–

Jesse Custer: Nope, sorry. I love the black girl.

Same shit, different fandom.

quick and dirty (not like that) thoughts on this episode of preacher since I can’t rewatch and write a long analysis (and oh BOY so much character development and relationship-building in this episode) now:

  • I love how the show picks apart how messed up jesse’s code of morals is? in a way the comics never did, like how Tulip says “John Wayne” so distastefully lmaoooo
  • at the same time we can see!!! exactly where it came from!!! and as for the darkness in jesse well there’s more to come re: that “mean old lady” he mentioned
  • cassidy and tulip roasting the fuck out of jesse was my lifeblood. cassidy defending eugene was beautiful and tulip reading him for filth at the end was cathartic but ofc still v painful
  • cassidy LITERALLY ROASTING killed me. I need to rewatch to be sure but I think he goes out there and just fucking immolates himself bc he literally has no connection to anyone rn. he’s Had Enough. tulip obviously doesn’t feel what he does and jesse is being a Huge Ass and he’s like YOU KNOW WHAT FUCK IT im gonna do a really dangerous version of a trust fall and yall cant stop me. his connections to people are all he has and he finally had some good ones that really resonated with him and it didn’t work out and he’s like ADIOS
  • and tulip’s compassion in response..she went out to help him
  • cassidy referring to “making love” with tulip just. straight up made my ass fall off I’m assless forever. tulip’s response was exactly what I expected - again, she’s focusing on her own feelings to the exclusion of all else bc she is in such great pain that she doesn’t have time for anyone else’s
  • I love how obvious it was in this episode that tulip knows jesse better than anyone (see her reaction to jesse’s behavior when he came back in from talking to cassidy) and she realized in this episode that the blind spot he had for her was gone. even she was subject to his prejudiced judgment bc of his psychological state and she left immediately and called him a dick THATS MY GIRL!  AND WENT TO HELP CASSIDY…MY ASS IS GONE HELP ME FIND IT I THINK JESSE SENT IT TO HELL
  • tulip NOT RUNNING IN HEELS THANKS GUYS RUNNING IN HEELS IS STUPID AND TULIP WOULD NEVER DO IT FUCK YOU JURASSIC WORLD…anyway
  • how the heck did eugene not get convicted for murder if that’s what really happened? somehow I think there’s more to this story. we need to hear eugene’s side of things. sam catlin did say it was darker than his comic backstory…which is pretty dark.
  • I love how messed up emily’s confession was like now is not the time? cassidy has clearly been fucked up and she’s confessing her love…these characters all feel so human to me. emily’s in love with jesse but she doesn’t really know him at all and I think she’ll finally realize that after this episode
  • there are gonna be more julip flashbacks too. we have to learn more about her family bc john custer’s like “she’s an O'Hare so there would be trouble” WHAT DOES THAT MEAN
  • tulip wetting the bed…that often happens to kids with huge anxiety issues
  • TULIP PROTECTING HER UNCLE. IM TELLING YALL THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT. TULIP SELFLESSLY CARING FOR HER SO-CALLED GUARDIANS AND GETTING NOTHING IN RETURN. JESSE BEING HER ONLY REAL FAMILY, FRIEND, CONFIDANTE…HER ONLY SEMBLANCE OF HOME. AND NOW THAT’S GONE TOO
  • UNTIL THE END OF THE WORLD FUCKING MURDER ME
