So to that end I received the StrengthsFinder book as a gift from my former boss, he handed them out as gifts to all the employees and I am so glad he did. After reading the book and taking the test associated here is what was revealed about my strengths:
Woo is my number one strength. It stands for winning others over. a brief synopsis is I rarely meet strangers and actually thrive on learning about them. I really love meeting new people and interacting with them, I thrive on it. If you have ever encountered me at a show, on the street or especially in a restaurant you will know this to be true.
Communication is my 2nd strength. The description states “ you like to explain, to describe, to host, to speak in public, and to write.” “Events are static. You feel a need to bring them to life, to energize them, to make them exciting and vivid. And so you turn events into stories and practice telling them” I talk a lot but not in a monotone way, I talk in parables all the time. My kids don’t like it so much because we can never just eat dinner in 30 minutes.
Maximizer is my 3rd strength. “ Excellence, not average, is your measure. Strengths, whether yours or someone else’s, fascinate you. You choose to spend time with people who appreciate your particular strengths. Likewise, you are attracted to others who seem to have found and cultivated their own strengths.” Excellence is the standard is our family motto.
Input is my 4th strength. “You are inquisitive. You collect things.” “The world is exciting precisely because of its infinite variety and complexity.” This is not an understatement, books, quotes, poems, art, music, chairs.
Responsibility is my 5th strength. “Your Responsibility theme forces you to take psychological ownership for anything you commit to, and whether large or small, you feel emotionally bound to follow it through to completion. Your good name depends on it.” This was almost the ruin of me because I thought I was responsible for everyone when I started to understand it is really just me and my immediate circle everything started to change.
This test our Principal Jacquelyn Roberts wrote about has a huge impact on decision making here at The JRG Group as it relates to our win ratio.
Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated failures. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.
