EGYPTIAN MYTHOLOGY:  hathor.

Hathor was also the goddess of beauty and patron of the cosmetic arts. Her traditional votive offering was two mirrors and she was often depicted on mirrors and cosmetic palettes. Yet she was not considered to be vain or shallow, rather she was assured of her own beauty and goodness and loved beautiful and good things. She was known as “the mistress of life” and was seen as the embodiment of joy, love, romance, perfume, dance, music and alcohol. Hathor was especially connected with the fragrance of myrrh incense, which was considered to be very precious and to embody all of the finer qualities of the female sex. Hathor was associated with turquoise, malachite, gold and copper. As “the Mistress of Turquoise” and the “lady of Malachite” she was the patron of miners and the goddess of the Sinai Peninsula (the location of the famous mines). The Egyptians used eye makeup made from ground malachite which had a protective function (in fighting eye infections) which was attributed to Hathor.

Enlightenment is not a sitting posture, it is not something you do with the body.

Enlightenment is not an intellectual conquest, it is not something you do with the mind.

Enlightenment is not something personal to you, it is not something to be grasped by the ego.

Enlightenment is not exalted joy or bliss or love, it is not something you feel through the heart.

Enlightenment is the abiding in the undefiled observer of all. Do not overlook it while slouched or weary, do not cover it over with mistaken intellectual conquest, do not chain it to yourself through the ego, and do not mistake the perfume of joy for the flower of understanding.

Hey dear! I love your style. What are your beauty must haves ?

Thanks so much hun! My beauty must haves are: Coty Airspun powder, Calgon and lavender epsom salts for bubble baths, Jean Nate spray for a luxurious after body spritz, any classic Revlon lipstick in red (Cherries in the Snow is my fave), Wet n Wild eyeliner (cheap and super dark), Ardell wispies (lashes), dark eyelash adhesive, Jean Patou’s Joy perfume (preferably the 1950s bottle), Wet n Wild Mellow Wine blush (literally the best), luxurious feeling silk and satin negligees, bullet bras, half slips and regular slips, quality wigs, and tea tree oil! xx

Atrophy

this is bleugorskis fault. she sends me super happy regulus/sirius brotherly love headcanons and i turn them into this. thanks, satan.

Sirius leaves, and everything begins to fade.

Loneliness permeates, resentment swells, rage and despair and confusion all coalesce—it’s like drowning and it’s like flying and Regulus relives the harrowing screech of his mother’s voice and the booming thud of the front door being slammed shut and it echoes, it echoes, it echoes, it echoes in the darkness of his bedroom as the clock strikes midnight and it echoes in the shadowy cobwebbed corners of the attic as he watches Kreacher pack up Sirius’s books and Sirius’s clothes and Sirius’s contradictory sanctimonious Gryffindor bullshit

Sirius leaves, and everything begins to splinter.

Words like ‘permanent’ and ‘forever’ suddenly turn mealy and sour in Regulus’s mouth—Sirius defines ‘right’ the same way their parents define ‘wrong’, and Regulus doesn’t like the taste of either, doesn’t like how one is saccharine sweet on the pebbled tip of his tongue and the other is rough and coarse and so uncomfortably, unpleasantly unfamiliar that it’s a wonder he can even recognize it. Because he hears ‘Pureblood’ and immediately thinks ‘agenda’ and he has to shake his head, shake himself, go down to stare at the ugly black scorch mark on the family tapestry and clench his jaw and then—and then—and then he has to put his fist through the drywall next to his wardrobe and he has to cover it up with a Slytherin Quidditch banner and he has to acknowledge that his reflection in the bathroom mirror later that night has never looked like more of a lie

Sirius leaves, and everything begins to collapse.

The skull with the serpent tattoo on Bellatrix’s forearm writhes and pulses with magic, hisses in impossible time to the jarring, arrhythmic beat of a Crucio scream and an Imperio whimper—and Regulus observes how her pupils dilate into needlepoints with each surge of power and how her teeth glint like razorblades with each flash of light and it isn’t the spice-warm cocoon of his parents’ approval and it isn’t the intermittent joy of his mother’s perfume-hazy embrace and it isn’t about reordering the world, no, it can’t be, not when it’s chaos and it’s toxic and it’s frightening and it makes his gut contract and his tonsils flutter and his pulse race with the abruptly nauseating understanding that Sirius had escaped joining this, yes, but he would never escape fighting it—

Sirius leaves, and everything begins to end.

LETTER FROM MY HEART TO MY BRAIN

Its okay to hang upside-down like a bat,
to swim into the deep end of silence,
to swallow every key so you can’t get out.
It’s okay to hear the ocean calling your fevered name

to say your sorrow is an opera of snakes,
to flirt with sharp and heartless things.
It’s okay to write, I deserve everything,
to bow down to this rotten thing
that understands you, to adore the red
and ugly queen of it, to admire
her calm and steady rowing.

It’s okay to lock yourself in the medicine cabinet,
to drink all the wine, to do what it takes to stay
without staying. Its okay to hate God today
to change his name to yours, to want to ruin all that ruined you.
It’s okay to feel like only a photograph of yourself,
to need a stranger to pull your hair and pin you down,
it’s okay to want your mother as you lie alone in bed.
It’s okay to brick to fuck to flame to church to crush to knife
to rock to rock to rock to rock to rock and rock.

It’s okay to wave good-bye to yourself in the mirror.
To write, I don’t want anything.
It’s okay to despise what you have inherited,
to feel dead in a city of pulses. It’s okay
to be the whale that never comes up for air,
to love best the taste of your own blood.

II.

LETTER FROM MY BRAIN TO MY HEART

This house is dirty, but comfortable.
Behind each crooked door
waits the angry weather of a forgiveless child.
I cannot help but admire this horrible
power of mine, how each small thing
can become a death: the lost house key. A spoiled egg.
A howling dog. There is no prayer or pill for this.
It is a ruthless botany; I might as well
be buried in the yard. I have no one to blame.
Not the mother who sang to an empty cradle.
Not the Dog of Spite who bit my hand,
just this long-legged sorrow
who trails my every joy like a dark perfume.

You have my permission not to love me;
I am a cathedral of deadbolts
and I’d rather burn myself down
than change the locks.

Stood Up | Nick & Joy

Joy wasn’t sure if her plans with Nick were a date or not, but she took it upon herself to prepare like it was. She had a busy day of class, so it was nice to look forward to something that wasn’t homework for the night. Plus, she had the whole weekend ahead of her to study if she needed to, but as far as she was concerned, she could go to Cheddar’s guilt-free tonight. Putting on a nice dress for the night, Joy spritzed on some perfume before grabbing her purse and heading out the door. A fifteen minute bus drive later, she made it just in time to arrive at around 6:55 P.M., and reserved a table for the both of them. After twenty minutes of sitting and waiting, and even texting Nick to see if he’d come, she sighed in disappointment. He either stood her up or completely forgot.

Of course, Joy’s mind quickly rushed to the former. She was looking forward to meeting up with him and getting to know him, but he completely ignored her. She took the bus drive home again and head up to Nick’s apartment, angrily knocking on the door, prepared to give him a lecture and a half for standing her up. She didn’t know why this mattered so much to her, but it did.
