How many times do I have to explain The Cabin in the Woods to people?
EXPLAINED: The whole film is a giant metaphor for the film industry (specifically the horror film industry). The ‘Gods’ represent us as audience members. When we aren’t happy with what we see on screen, we throw a tantrum– just like they do. The 'puppeteers’/organization represent horror filmmakers who constantly try to appease audience members– but often end up recycling the same horror crap over and over again. Finally, the main characters represent character archetypes/tropes WITHIN horror films (the whore, the jock, etc.). When they decide to fight back in the end, that represents horror film characters everywhere saying “I’m not putting up with this overdone shit anymore, filmmakers and audiences.”
