I Support OUAT Season 7 And So Should Everyone Because...

I love the cast and crew. I have stuck with this show through thick and thin. Through terrible plot turns, reprehensible storylines, and the heartbreaking happiness of my beloved Emma Swan. I am so sad that she will not be continuing on along with the rest of the immediate Charming Family as we know them. It won’t be the same no matter what they do or how they spin it, reboot it, or rework it.

That being said….

I love Colin, and Lana, and Robert, and all the rest of the cast. They have contributed some of the more talented performances throughout the run of the show. They are fantastic actors. But they are still actors. We tend to think of actors in the mindset of movie stars and A-listers who make tens or hundreds of millions of dollars for any project they work no matter how small.

The reality is that acting is an inconsistent career that can leave a professional out of work for long stretches of time if the projects aren’t coming in. Colin has interviewed stating that before OUAT he had been basically out of work for a year and on the verge of giving it up because he had a family and it just didn’t seem to be working out. I can name maybe a couple of tv appearances for Lana outside of OUAT. And Robert is perhaps a more well known, established actor, but I would imagine that having steady work while looking for other projects (see Trainspotting 2) has great appeal if he chooses to come back as well.

As a fan of them and their work I support anything that keeps them working. And for the professionalism, and dedication that they have shown this show and it’s fans, especially in the face of so much hate and disgusting harassment from disgruntled trolls on social media, I will continue to watch this show. I will continue to support them because I still love this show and I still care about its characters and their journeys, wherever they take us.

So please let’s all wish season 7 good luck.

Colin O’Donoghue on Happy, Sad , Confused

Some of the highlights:

  • He said it’s nice to get out for a little bit but it’s weird to leave set since they just started to film the finale.
  • When you play a character as long as you do on a TV shot it’s always nice to play someone else. It’s complicated because he wants to do something different but he also wants to have a few weeks of rest.
  • He’s been very lucky on Once that he’s been able to play so many different types of Hook.
  • He was very lucky that he was able to take time off of Once to shoot Carrie Pilby because it was rescheduled.
  • He skyped with the director of Carrie Pilby to talk about the role. He just really wanted to play a different character than Hook and there is nothing redeeming about his character in the movie.
  • Bel wasn’t originally playing Carrie Pilby when Colin signed on.
  • “I didn’t think about the female … thing at the time. I still can’t believe that we have to ask that question. The work should speak for itself…. Unfortunately that is something we have to talk about, the fact that is it directed by a woman and written by a woman.”
  • “Who doesn’t want to be punched in the face by Gabriel Byrne?”
  • It was a dream come true to work with Gabriel Byrne.
  • At 19 Colin was in drama college and focused on wanting to be an actor. He played a lot of guitar and drew a lot ..
  • No one prepares you for interviews or how you come across when you become an actor.
  • Colin’s first Comic Con with Once he describes as relentless … interview after interview .. and he became a caricature of himself. He was playing a version of himself.
  • Jen, Ginny, Josh, Lana are all really good at it. Colin just leans on them and lets them answer at the big events.
  • He joined youth theater at 15 or 16 and he realized that it gave him an opportunity to be someone else, someone more engaging without having to change who he is as a person.
  • Loves the idea of affecting people and losing yourself in a role and making people cry or laugh.
  • 12 Angry Men is probably one of his favorite movies of all time.
  • Colin is a massive Star Wars fan. A New Hope is the first one he remembers seeing. Han Solo was the character that clicked for him. A&E call Hook the Han Solo of OUAT. He wants to watch more Star Wars with his son. He thinks the prequels went overboard with the CGI
  • The Rite was what Colin considers his big break. His character was a very specific character and sort of an outsider.  Anthony Hopkins took him under his wing. He went through his process with Colin and told him that Laurence Olivier had done that for him. People think it’s effortless but Anthony Hopkins works really hard.
  • Colin was on the short list for Superman.
  • He loves Captain Hook and he honestly doesn’t think that any character would have been more perfect for him to play at the time.
  • He had done a pilot with Angela Basset that wasn’t picked up and then was out of work for 6-8 months when he got the script for OUAT.
  • He read the script and wondered how he could put his spin on the character. He wanted him to be an incredibly engaging character. Somebody who guys wanted to go hang out with and girls wanted to be with. Luckily his idea was on the same wavelength as A&E.
  • The OUAT fandom wasn’t something he was prepared for. They are blessed to have the fans that they have and it’s great to be a part of a show that has that. It’s a great validation of the work.
  • He had never heard of shipping and now it’s part of his daily … leprechaun? No, lexicon LOL
  • He was delighted to do the musical episode. The way they integrated it into the mythology of the show. It’s not a one off episode. The music if phenomenal. It was really good fun. Unfortunately he broke his foot when he fell over a chair during a Gene Kelly move running up a chair. He didn’t go to the doctor for 5 more days.
  • It’s a very pirate-y song that he will sing … and he sings on two of the songs.
  • Colin might know some things about a reboot concept … but they are focusing on finishing up the season.
  • Once Upon a Time is a special show and is purely about hope .. unapologetically so and that is an important thing to have.
  • Is the reaction multiplied when he and Jen are together? He’s married to the love of his life so when those lines blur for the fans it gets complicated and he has to step back. He can understand why it gets amplified like that though.
  • He wants a Batman special edition that he saw at his first Comic Con.
