Now, I’ve wanted to keep a lot of things to myself in regards to the recent incident that’s sparked all of the community.
For those who don’t know, two 12 year old girls stabbed their friend justifying it by appeasing to Slenderman.
That was roughly a week ago and my disgust has shifted. It’s shifted from the two girls actions to the community.
The way the community’s acting, and how they respond as a general voice.
Now let’s look at creepypasta. Creepypastas are not alive. It is not a set website. It is not something you can pin down and ‘delete’. It is a part of the fabric of the internet.
When I browse the tags, the majority of reactions are either 'oh no, I hope the community doesn’t get blamed for this’, to 'Those girls were idiots’. With less attention to the victim.
THERE IS A GIRL LYING IN HOSPITAL AND YOU GUYS ARE MORE CONCERNED ABOUT CREEPYPASTAS.
Well let’s look at the news shall we?
I’ve read numerous articles regarding the incident, and I’ve paid close mind to what they’ve said about creepypastas.
Do you want to know who’s damaging the name of creepypastas more?
The majority of news articles mearly mention it with a narrow minded quip about what it is, and that’s due to a lack of knowledge. WHICH IS EXPECTED. Creepypastas aren’t mainstream so it’s almost expected that people not educated in it will be hesitant about what it is.
But no one seems to have added up that when people say 'oh no, looks like creepypastas are going to be blamed’, or even 'IT’S NOT CREEPYPASTAS FAULT’, the over-defensive and rash statements as a whole REALLY makes creepypastas look guilty.
AND when I go on the news videos about the event, nothing but verbal attacks to the two young girls.
Great job making us look good there guys, REALLY painting us in a good image.
But wait, there’s more. I’m not even here to talk about that. I’m going to answer the proposed question, should the proxy symbol be used?
For those following me, I’ve been reblogging a mix of the ways you can support the 'it’s creativity, nor reality’ statement.
But, every time I reblog the Operator symbol, there’s been comments like
DON’T DRAW THE DIDDLY DARN PROXY SYMBOL. THE STABBERS WERE TRYING TO BECOME PROXIES.
Now, if you feel the same way, ask yourselves this… why?
What’s wrong with using the operator symbol?
Well, the general consensus is that 'it represents Slenderman’.
… So what? How is that wrong?
It represents Slenderman- THAT’S THE POINT
By saying NOT to use it, are you not saying that Slenderman is in fact guilty of what the media say?
The stabbings weren’t about Jeff the Killer, or Smile.dog. They were about SLENDERMAN.
When you read the news, it mentions Slenderman over creepypastas because the girls specifically mentioned him.
And yet, people are defending creepypastas, which, REALLY aren’t under much scrutiny at all.
Now, let’s look at the meanings of everything used to represent the message.
The message 'it’s creativity, not reality’ is there to show that we are not monsters. That we know that the sub-genre- Creepypasta, is for entertainment purposes.
You write it yourself, sometimes ON yourself to show that YOU support it.
The use of the Operator symbol is to say that Slenderman SPECIFICALLY is not to blame. Because this whole ordeal is regarding him.
A yellow roses are meant for best friends, and it being thornless literally means “Love at first sight”
So, If anything, in that sense, is the operator symbol not the superior way to show support?
But in the end, the-
Tl;dr summary is that; who are you to say how people can and can’t express how they support the victim. The only people who are being offended, are people who shouldn’t be offended. Also, watch what you say, because it reflects on everyone in the general perspective of things.
In fact- Ttl;dr, stop defending 'creepypastas’ and Slenderman, they are NOT in danger. Be more concerned on something you CAN help with; the victim.
