As you can see, these books have Rick’s stamp of approval and they are definitely worth checking out! They are full of ghosts and also wonderful children running around with swords and I just really hope they don’t hurt themselves because I will protect them to the end of the world
There is also a sassy talking skull that lives in a jar. He’s pretty cool too.
I made a post about mary shelley being the inventor of science fiction and it’s surged in popularity over the past week
but a lot of people are pointing out that i was wrong
I cross-referenced the data and found that yes, I am in fact wrong about Mary Shelley being the inventor of science fiction
traditional science fiction dates back a very long time, but the most notable first instances was in Gulliver’s Travels, by Jonathan Swift, where he explained the phenomena of a floating island by explaining how it floated on magnets
so, allow me to rectify my statement
Mary Shelley was not the inventor of science fiction, and Jonathan Swift may not be either, since stories of science being used to explain supernatural phenomena date back for a very very long time
Shelley, however, did do a lot of amazing shit with the writing of Frankenstein: or, The Modern Prometheus
notable examples include:
At age 19, defeated her husband, Percy Bysshe Shelley and LORD MOTHERFUCKING BYRON in a contest to see who could come up with the scariest story.
Popularized the science fiction Genre and brought it into the mainstream
Created one of the first recorded instances of Black Box Science Fiction
Published an incredibly successful novel as a woman in the Romantic era
Made one of the most notable uses of not only a Byronic Hero, but a Doppelganger as well
Laid the story and framework for dozens of adaptations that are still popular today, including The Rocky Horror Picture Show
So I admit I was wrong and that I should have double-checked my data beforehand. And I really need to stop that post from getting notes. I’m sorry.
