joined this ship a couple of hours ago

“Sometimes it just makes me feel sad to know that we need to be Rich to be a part of something.”

Um, bullshit.

There is no evidence that suggests you have to be mega-rich to join the BJD hobby. There is nothing to support this ill-informed logic.

I am on a meagre 12-hour-a-week contract. Most of the time I do about 16 hours a week. On below the UK ‘living wage’. Luckily, from a financial POV, I’ve had a couple of weeks lately where I’ve done twice or even three times my contract hours. So, next week on payday, I can probably pay off my Resinsoul Bigger Boy body and get him out of Customs the following week, should he ship that quick.

Five years ago (I let that small anniversary slip by quietly), I bought a Ringdoll Sol basic in normal on layaway. He was my first and he’s legit. And Ringdoll does not have the cheapest dolls available, not by a long shot. They’re more mid-range price or upper-mid-range. But, they’re quality dolls. You get what you pay for, from a true artist (not a scalper claiming profit by copying someone else’s work).

And there are many companies with loads of options in colours and sculpts that won’t break the bank. Resinsoul, if not just for a body to hybrid a head with. Mystic Kids have some cute MSDs for under $300 (their 70cm dolls go for about $479). MYOU have SD dolls for about $390. These are for blank basics by the way. Impldoll Star line starts at $295. Angel of Dream (AOD) has some cute 60cm dolls at $265. And a lot of companies and legit dealers offer layaway (most are 3 months, but some are 6 months - a few even offer 12 months, because they want to work with you to give you the doll you want).

You don’t have to start out with the super expensive Dollzone, Doll Chateau, Dollshe, Loong Soul, Fairyland, Volks… There are no rules that state your collection must include at least one sculpt by the preceding companies. Ever.

And, although they’re not resin, you could start with a Hujoo or a Parabox. Henzel, the only 1/3 boy from Parabox, is 27000 yen. That’s a little more than $240 (sans shipping). Still legit, but not resin. There are plenty of (legit) options out there for the cash-strapped who desperately want a doll.

I suspect you may have already gotten this asked but Supercat for the ship meme?

I haven’t! People usually just stick to asking me for Alexstra stuff recently, which is interesting (not in a bad way, just a strange way)

  • Who accidentally pushes a door instead of pulling/vice versa
    • Kara, obviously. Once she got frustrated and pushed a ‘pull’ door a little too hard, which resulted in a difficult conversation with a very confused movie theater manager. Cat thought it was hilarious and still tells people about it.
  • Who doodles little hearts all over the desk with their initials inside them
    • Cat does. She has to quickly cover it with papers whenever someone comes into her office. Kara’s the one who has to clean if off before Cat gets to work the next morning. She almost always takes pictures of the doodles before she destroys them forever, though.
  • Who starts the tickle fights
    • Kara. She thinks Cat doesn’t smile enough and loves to tease her about how ticklish she is. Kara will sometimes pull Cat onto her lap and hold her there while she tickles her sides, making Cat gasp and squirm while she struggles to get away. Both of them laughing the entire time.
  • Who starts the pillow fights
    • Cat does. Usually to try to stop the tickling. Since she can’t get free from Kara’s arms, she’ll reach around her and grab a pillow, smacking the other woman with it until she lets her go.
  • Who falls asleep last, watching the other with a small affectionate smile
    • More often than not, it’s Cat. Sometimes she wakes up in the middle of the night and can’t get back to sleep, so she just watches Kara, happy to see her so peaceful.
  • Who mistakes salt for sugar
    • Kara. She tries to make breakfast for Cat and Carter sometimes, but neither of them really trusts her to get it right. They both eat whatever she ends up making anyway because they don’t want to hurt her feelings. Carter always glares at his mom while he eats the weird breakfast foods, silently begging her to say something to her girlfriend or to take her to a cooking class.
  • Who lets the microwave play the loud beeping sound at 1am in the morning
    • Kara, but it’s not on purpose. She can’t help that she gets home late or that she’s starving when she sneaks in the front door at 1 in the morning. Fighting bad guys takes a lot of time and a lot of energy; Cat understands.
  • Who comes up with cheesy pick up lines
    • Kara. And she likes to write them on little sticky notes and leave them around Cat’s office: one in the top drawer of her desk, one stuck to the layouts she brings in, one stuck to her coffee cup, and seven stuck to the mirror in the private en suite.
  • Who rearranges the bookshelf in alphabetical order
    • Kara and Cat have multiple arguments over this. Cat likes to have them arranged by genre and personal preference. Kara thinks that system makes it difficult to find anything. When Cat goes on a three day business trip to Italy, Kara and Carter rearrange all the bookshelves in the house. Cat doesn’t even mention it when she gets home, but she obviously notices.
  • Who licks the spoon when they’re baking brownies
    • Kara. Cat knows she can’t actually get salmonella, but she wishes that Kara wouldn’t. It’s a bad influence for Carter and it’s too damn tempting for her.
  • Who buys candles for dinners even though there’s no special occasion
    • Cat. She likes to romance Kara. The candles are always lavender scented; they remind her of how Kara smells.
  • Who draws little tattoos on the other with a pen
    • Kara does. Cat loves how it feels, especially on her stomach. Dozens of different colored pens are strewn out over the bed while Kara doodles pictures on Cat’s calves, which are thrown over her lap, as Cat tries to concentrate on her laptop. When Cat looks over the top of her reading glasses to see what Kara’s drawing, she can’t help but think about how in the morning, she’s going to make Kara drop to her knees in the shower and scrub the pen off. Maybe she’ll have Kara do something more enjoyable while she’s down there.
  • Who comes home with a new souvenir magnet every time they go on vacation
    • Cat. She started doing it when Carter was little and he wanted all the cheesy souvenirs from her business trips. The only souvenir that stuck into his teenage years were the magnets. Their fridge is littered with them. Carter used to point at them and ask his mom to tell him about that trip. They’d sit on the floor in the kitchen in front of the fridge and talk about Spain or South Africa or Australia. Now Kara joins them, smiling and popping m&m’s into her mouth as Cat tells Carter about a long ago trip to Portugal.
  • Who convinces the other to fill out those couple surveys in the back of magazines
    • Cat started doing it because she read every article in her own magazine anyway; she might as well do the couples surveys, too. Kara takes it very seriously, spending hours discussing the questions as they fight sleep to keep talking.
