johnny the homicidal maniac. comics

So I just remembered something.

I saw a photo of the JTHM trade paperback just recently and noticed the rusty, red splotches in the Z? logo. That’s blood, you see? MY ACTUAL BLOOD. It was a thing I vaguely recall advertising way back when this was a new book and EVERY cover for every popular comic HAD to have blood in it. It was hardcore as fuck because it was like putting a bit of myself into this thing I was doing, like the creation of this book was a violent act of creation, right, a troubled, painful birth!

So here’s what I just remembered: While working on the cover, I got a nosebleed as a result of using too much nasal decongestant spray and decided to just use it on the cover.

FUCKING HARDCORE ALLERGIES.

FINALLY got to meet the one and only Jhonen Vasquez along with Eric Trueheart, Rikki Simons and Megan Lawton @thesecretheadquarters. I have wanted to meet @jhonenv , creator of one of my absolute favorite comics (JTHM), since I was about twelve. I totally blew it and didn’t talk to any of them much do to overwhelming nervousness and awe…. but hopefully I can meet them all in the future and actually have a conversation. They were all so incredibly nice! Also drew them some stupid sketches for them, lol.

“Dear Die-Ary, today some friends came over…” (Dear Die-Ary #1)

-

“The noise makes me uncomfortable. So uncomfortable that sometimes I wonder… why I just don’t get myself a pair of earplugs.” (Things that make noise)

-

“No! No! No! Stop it! Just shut up!! I have no choice! Save your noise for later!!” (Goblins)

We tried to re-create a few pannels of the original comic during our shooting. Of course, we didn’t have the right props and/or places to do them but I’m still pretty satisfied with the outcome. :)

Invader Zim #24

The killer virus has a name! Well, not really, but ZIM has the name of the guy who put the virus in GIR in the first place: VIROOZ. He also knows where he lives—Cyberflox, the galaxy’s largest technology flea market! It’ll take all of ZIM’s cunning, intelligence, and subtlety to infiltrate the planet and find VIROOZ, which means ZIM is probably going to fail. Badly. Part three of a four-part story! - $3.99
