No Lion - John Paul Roney in the Boom Forest

The vocalist of the now-defunct alternative rock band We The Living, John Paul Roney, has an excellent EP out (which is available on Bandcamp), or at least, it’s been out since April this year.

No Lion is easily my favourite track on the EP, not because the others are weak, but the sheer superiority of which this is presented to the listener makes it my undoubted choice. Bell Jar is intriguing, and Wooden Heart is sweet and honest, Medieval Life is a superbly produced introduction with the haunting croons, but No Lion is a beautifully mixed acapella track. It is grand, unveiling the rich tone that Roney’s vocals possess, and at the same time, shows off his range.

Treat your ears right. Listen to this album.

Happy Monday, everyone. We’ve got a great show pick for tonight. Summer break has started for a lot of you, so there’s no excuse to miss Daniel & the Lion at Double Door’s Dirtroom (1572 N. Milwaukee Ave) tonight. This multi-instrumental folk pop duo will be changing it up with a full band, so you won’t want to miss this. Download their single “Paper Dove” for free here.

Daniel & the Lion will also be the backing band for a friend of ours, John Paul Roney (formerly of We The Living) in the Boom Forest, who will be kicking off the show. Grab “Wooden Heart” for free as well here. Also playing are locals Simpleton & Cityfolk and The O’s from Dallas, Texas.

DATL are currently on tour in support of their latest album, Sweet Teeth, that dropped last Wednesday. If you purchase a ticket in advance, you can get a copy of the new album for free! Just show them a confirmation print out.

So if you’re 21+, come and hang out with Meesh and I tonight at 8PM, and enjoy some great music.
