Enigmatic German lunatic (in a good way) Jurgen Klopp has indicated his desire to spearhead the club’s revival and Liverpool hope to confirm his appointment by the end of this week, if everything goes to plan he will pen a three-year contract.
Negotiations have been under way all day and are being conducted by Ian Ayre with the Liverpool chief executive liaising closely with Boston-based owners John W Henry, Tom Werner and Mike Gordon.
Klopp is set to bring with him two members of his backroom staff from his time at Dortmund - Zeljko Buvac and Peter Krawietz. Rumour has it that both Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher have been contacted about coaching roles.
Part of the reason for him agreeing to take the job is a lengthy chat with former Reds midfielder Didi Hamann. The Kaiser told him all about the club, the city, the fans and the passion - things Klopp (rightly) finds important.
As a result assistant boss Sean O'Driscoll and first team coach Gary McAllister are expected to follow Rodgers out of the club. As it stands both O'Driscoll and McAllister still remain in position and they are scheduled to take training at Melwood on Tuesday for those players who aren’t on international duty. However, they know they are on borrowed time. Pejipin Linders will thankfully remain at the club.
