john william mackay

Every Fall and Spring semester, the students at the University of Nevada, Reno place forth tributes to John William Mackay. He was one of few pioneers to excavate the Comstock Lode and begin telegraph communications in the west. These tributes are given to Mackay at the end of the term before final exams, presentations, and projects in order to bring fortune to the students so that he will reward them with high grades.
