There are plenty of variations and experiments in the sari & blouse these days. Raw Mango for e.g. plays around with colours, motifs (birds are common) or collections that hark back to certain eras (Royal Colonial India, Jodhabai or moods). The blouses are also different from the current brief and cap sleeve versions.
Some of the silhouettes like Pic 2 hark back to the 19th century Parsi style saris. This is also true of a Ram Mango innovation like the printed petticoat (pic 3). The printed/embroidered petticoat in fact has a fairly long history especially where lehengas and half saree variations were common.
