As reported recently, Star Trek 4 is now in the planning stages. According to Chris Hemsworth, producer J.J. Abrams presented him with “an amazing pitch” for the new Star Trek project. Despite the slight box office disappointment of Star Trek Beyond – the last Star Trek movie – the studio was encouraged by the critical praise for the film and is moving forward with the fourth film in the current series.
Your aptitude tests are off the charts, so what is it? You like being the only genius level repeat offender in the Midwest? So your Dad dies. You can settle for a less than ordinary life, or do you feel like you were meant for something better? Something special? Enlist in Starfleet. If you’re half the man your father was, Jim, Starfleet could use you. You understand what the Federation is, don’t you? It’s important. It’s a peacekeeping and humanitarian armada… - Star Trek
Wow so this is NOT a fake news. Tarantino will definitely work with JJ Abrams for the next Star Trek movie and it will be R rated.
We need to make the middle-aged dudes stay away from our beloved classic franchise and stop adding their toxic masculinity EVERYWHERE.
I love AOS and if Beyond was great it was only because Simon Pegg truly CARED about Star Trek but here we go again: another male-centric movie but this time it will probably be gross and with unnecessary porn violence in it. Wow nice.
So, it seems the rumours are true… Quentin Tarantino is going on a STAR TREK!
In some interview, somewhere, Tarantino stated he was a Trek fan and had a great idea for a movie. Well, you know, actors and directors say stuff and it never goes anywhere… but this time, it has. JJ Abrams got in contact to listen to Quentin’s pitch and loved the idea. A writers room was put together, out of which one writer was chosen to write a draft of the script to QT’s specifications. The writer of choice was Mark L Smith (the scribe behind THE REVENANT.
Tarantino is apparently eyeing up the Trek film as his next director job. This is very important as he’s previously stated he intends to retire after his tenth movie. STAR TREK XIV would well be his swan song!
We don’t know anything about what this story pitch is, of course. We do know that QT has demanded the film is rated R though.
This will be a major departure for Trek. Tarantino has a particular style to him as a director, that doesn’t initially gel with Trek, but that could be a blessing. Originally we knew Chris Hemsworth was signed on for the film, to appear again as Kirk’s dad, but this new idea will likely knock that on the head. Also, if Tarantino does direct, he’ll likely bring in some of his own talent. Many jokes have been made about Samuel L Jackson coming… which would be awesome. I wonder if we can also expect the likes of Tim Roth, Harvey Keitel and Uma Thurman… maybe, maybe not. We don’t actually know if this idea will feature the existing cast of Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto etc… or will it be the film to bring together all the different casts in one place? We know Patrick Stewart would be up for it if that was the case.
It’s an exciting time to be a Trek fan, and it’ll be very interesting to see if this all pans out.
