This is a rough take, but I wanted to show you, my followers, this newish song of mine. I hope you like it.

Contours;

I found comfort in my sheets
(They) might’ve known you better than me
Tasted the sweat on your skin
Held you close like my arms did
And this bed was made for you and me
This bed was made for you and me
But nothing’s set in stone, you see

I want you and all that you do
To run my hands along the contours of you
To study your anatomy
To find the heart of who you want to be
And I guess we’ll have to wait and see

I found solace in the little things
The warmth of you against me
A memory of you singing
And all the while you left no vacancies in my chest
Yeah, you damn near laid me to rest
In this bed that was made for you and me

You were etched in the marrow of my bones
And all the while I called you home
With careful fingertips I traced the hills and valleys of you
But in my carelessness I forgot to love you, too

Day 5: Tall Enough (Convalescence).

(Verse one and chorus of Convalescence.)

If there’s no sense in loving you,
Then there’s no sense in me.
Yeah, you talk real tall,
But that’s not tall enough for me.

Stepping lightly across the floor,
Sudden rain leaving leaves against your door.
But you don’t know ‘cause you’ve never been away from home;
And I’ll be long gone before you know.

Jimi Brady - Departure

I’m going to be making an effort to record videos of my songs as I’m also recording the album. Here’s the latest song I’ve completed, titled Blue and Gold.

If you don’t hate it - or better yet, if you actually like it - please reblog it. It would really mean a lot to me. Thanks for listening.

Those deep shades of gold staring brightly through the glass
And I could be yours to hold, if only you’d ask
So never mind the tea leaves, you don’t have to say please - I won’t hold back
Give us time, just stay for a night - blue skies turn into starry light

There’s no need to brush those leaves from your dress
I think you look your best
Grass stains on my denim jeans, but nothing’s perfect
I know you’re worth it

And now we’re in my bed singing love songs to each other in the dead of night
Yeah I want this to last, but I know you’ll leave when we see that blue and gold light

As I’m tracing the lines on the small of your back
Our legs entwined and your heart against mine
You say that you’re not ready for this, and I understand
But trust me, I’ve got so much time.

I messed up the lyrics twice and made a fairly large error in the middle of the song that you might definitely catch, but I like this take overall. When I finished the song, I was pretty convinced that I had butchered the take until I listened to it. I wasn’t wrong, but nor was I right.

This is the second song off of my Windemere album, titled Home. If you like it, let me know.

This is the outro song from the EP I’m hoping to release in February. It’s my first successful attempt at recording myself using all of the equipment I was able to purchase thanks to the friends, family, and strangers who contributed to my Indiegogo campaign last year.

I learned a lot in the couple hours I spent recording this, and the next one will sound better and come together a little more quickly. But I’m just happy that I was able to record each section and splice it all together fairly well. I also discovered that my vocal mic picks up trains from several blocks away. I’m pretty sure I also heard someone picking their nose nearby while it was on (spoilers: it wasn’t me).

Anyway, I hope you like the song, even if it’s pretty rough.

This is an older song I never finished. I posted this video on Youtube the night I wrote it, more than a year ago.

You’re my electricity
And I’d like to feel you closer to me
You could show me the ropes tonight
With you I’d leave my heart and my hands tied

You could teach me your language, show me a verb or two
Give me your fingertips and let me press my lips
Against all those words you like to use

Here’s a vocal-less playthrough of my song, Departure. I recorded this for my singer to use, hence the extreme close-up. Still, the quality is decent and it’ll give you an idea of what my actual songs sound like as opposed to my random improvisations that I’ve been posting.

Hope you like it, followers.

This interlude is from my acoustic album, titled Windemere.

She chipped away at me
It’s not that I was weak, just easy prey
I once had walls, you know
But mortar fails and I’ve been alone
If she tells me again that this isn’t real
That nothing I could say would make it so
Then I’ll step aside, lay down my pride
And hope she gives me back those pieces she stole

Departure by Jimi Brady (that’s me), played in Jackson Square, New Orleans, LA.

My amazing girlfriend and camerawoman, Amanda, took this video of me playing Departure in the French Quarter. It came out really well, and this is actually the only recorded version containing both the intro and outro. Let me know what you think. :)

Departure;

Well, here it is - my first full song with vocals. I have at least nine more to post, but here’s the first. I’m quite happy with this recording. :)

Here’s a much cleaner, better recorded version of Blue and Gold. I really appreciated all of the love, support, feedback, and criticism I’ve received regarding the rough version of this song I asked my friends and followers to listen to the other day. I did my best to incorporate as much of it as I could.

Again, if you like it, please reblog it. <3

Light-ways and Dark-things by Jimi Brady.

“I stayed in New Orleans for over a month with my wonderful girlfriend, Amanda, and I whilst there I borrowed her roommate’s ukulele (thanks, Tina!). I wrote this song and played it in the French Quarter one night. The song is not finished, so what you’ll see and hear is what I intend for the song to sound like, but this is not the final version. I mostly just improvised my various ideas between the verses. In any case, I like the way this one turned out, mistakes and all. And, as always, a huge thank-you to my girlfriend for filming!

The lyrics are a poem that I wrote by the same name. Towards the five minute mark I stomp my foot suddenly - I was trying to kill a roach that was making its way towards my bag. :)”

Departure by Jimi Brady.

I might as well start this blog off with a song of my own. Thanks for the listen, traveler.

Day 3: Electricity.

You’re my electricity,
And I’d like to feel you closer to me.
You could show me the ropes tonight;
With you I’d leave my heart and my hands tied.

You could teach me your language,
Show me a verb or two.
Give me your fingertips,
And let me press my lips
Against all those words you like to use.

Day 2: Sheltered Bones.

Shelter these bones,
Leave my dust alone.
I’m shedding skin like wax,
Like wood beneath the axe.
Would you call my situation a heart attack?
Will you keep my pieces, or will you give them back?

Day 1: Breaking.

PSA;

I’m flying out to New Orleans to stay with my girlfriend for a few weeks. I’ve been busy packing, so I’ve set the queue from four posts to three posts per day until I’m settled in NOLA with my muse. While I’m there I’ll be playing in the French Quarter on the weekends (and possibly some weekdays), so expect live footage of me busking.

Thanks for listening, travelers.

Home by Jimi Brady.

This recording could be better. I plan on rerecording a few of my videos while I’m in New Orleans for the next few weeks. In any case, this song is a bit more straightforward than any of my others.
