Designed and developed by Van Cleef & Arpels and Dutch watchmaker Christiaan van der Klaauw, Midnight Planétarium is a gergous watch design that allows you to wear a little piece of the Solar System on your wrist. This intricate device replaces hands of a watch with six tiny planets orbiting around a central rose gold Sun.

Taking 396 pieces and 3 whole years of work to complete, this stunningly rare device uses semiprecious stones representing 6 planets closest to the sun – serpentine for Mercury, chloromelanite for Venus, turquoise for Earth, red jasper for Mars, blue agate for Jupiter and sugilite for Saturn. All of the stones rotate separately and at the same pace as the actual planets – meaning it will take three months for Mercury to make a rotation and 29 years for Saturn to make one revolution around the rose gold sun. Such a fancy and captivating way to keep track of time! With a price tag of $245,000, this watch will be available later in 2014. There is no doubt it is pretty expensive, but what you can say – art and craftsmanship comes for a price.
