“Santa Claus is a fraud, little girl!” Isaac jeered, shrugging his shoulders as an appalled mother covered her kid’s ears as they passed. “Oh c’mon. Like you didn’t know? Shame on you for being a liar, mom,” he scoffed. This whole Claus’s house setup at the Winter Wonderland event was stupid in his opinion. Ruining it for impressionable kids seemed fitting.

How Churchill engineered the holocaust of 3 million Indians

As the resistance swelled, Churchill announced: “I hate Indians. They are a beastly people with a beastly religion.” This hatred killed. To give just one, major, example, in 1943 a famine broke out in Bengal, caused – as the Nobel Prize-winning economist Amartya Sen has proved – by the imperial policies of the British. Up to 3 million people starved to death while British officials begged Churchill to direct food supplies to the region. He bluntly refused. He raged that it was their own fault for “breeding like rabbits”. At other times, he said the plague was “merrily” culling the population.  Skeletal, half-dead people were streaming into the cities and dying on the streets, but Churchill – to the astonishment of his staff – had only jeers for them. “If food is so scarce, why hasn’t Gandhi died yet?”

You Can't Cheer for Laverne and Boo Jennicet

Jennicet Gutiérrez is the first transgender person to publicly call out the president around immigration and the torture and rape transgender immigrants often experience inside detention centers. Gutiérrez was in a room full of national LGBT leaders who gathered to celebrate the many accomplishments of the movement. You would imagine this would be a place to feel seen, safe, and validated. That was not the case.

As soon as Gutiérrez proceeded to speak truth and ask the President as to why he is not releasing our trans detainees who face violence, the crowd began to jeer, boo, and hiss. As she continued, the crowd then began to drown her and chant, “OBAMA! OBAMA!”

A transgender woman of color and undocumented leader in the immigrant rights and LGBT movement was booed and silenced by not only the state, but by the very same movement that purports to uplift and celebrate the transgender community.

As her voice, filled with passion and conviction, broke through the White House room, she was met by negativity, intolerance, and stares of disapproval from her peers. Her voice was carried by the thousands of transgender women considered disposable by the nation, facing deportation, detention, and brutal transphobic violence.

Her voice and visibility in that moment was shunned and shamed as inappropriate by a roomful of leaders who then applauded as the President lamented violence against transgender women of color, violence that his actions have contributed to by not taking action against the detention centers. Her voice is one of few transgender women of color immigrants who are bringing national visibility to this issue of the detention centers. Her voice carried the weight of the communities who are screaming inside detention centers demanding to be freed. Her voice was heard and ridiculed by many who claim to fight for transgender communities and also are involved in LGBT immigrant rights issues.

In an extraordinary act of bravery, an animal rights activist jumped into the Malagueta bullfighting ring to comfort a dying bull in Malaga, Spain, yesterday. For a few moments, Virginia Ruiz, 38, was able to lay her body over the bull and shield him before arena officials and fans violently hauled her away. “I could hear him crying in pain and I jumped down, walked across the ring to where he lay dying,” Ms. Ruiz explained to me via Skype this morning. “He looked at me and I believe he felt my energy. I wanted to give him love before he left this earth,” she said.
.
As she was pulled off the bull, the crowd of bullfighting fans jeered, yelling “fuera!” (get out) in unison. “They called me names,” said Ruiz, “they kicked me, they spit on me, they told me to go back to the kitchen and they called me a whore.”
.
The bull was stabbed to death.

When will this barbarity end? When will the world wake up to the horrors it inflicts. How can this be classed as entertainment. SICK.

.
The bull is not an aggressive animal, and the reason he is angry and attempts to charge at the matador whilst in the bullring is mainly because he has been horrendously abused for the previous two days. In fact, what spectators see is not a normal, healthy bull, but a weakened, half-blinded and mentally destroyed version, whose chances of harming his tormentors is virtually nil. The bull has wet newspapers stuffed into his ears; vaseline is rubbed into his eyes to blur his vision; cotton is stuffed up his nostrils to cut off his respiration and a needle is stuck into his genitals. Also, a strong caustic solution is rubbed onto his legs which throws him off balance. This also keeps him from lying down on the ground. In addition to this, drugs are administered to pep him up or slow him down, and strong laxatives are added to his feed to further incapacitate him. He is kept in a dark box for a couple of days before he faces the ring: the purpose of this is to disorientate him. When he is let out of the box, he runs desperately towards the light at the end of the tunnel. He thinks that at last his suffering is over and he is being set free — instead, he runs into the bullring to face his killers and a jeering mob.
Lets not forget the horses in this barbarity also;
The bull is not the only animal to suffer in the ring — hundreds of horses die long and agonising deaths as they are gored by the pain-crazed bull. Horses have their ears stuffed with wet newspaper, they are blindfolded and their vocal chords are cut so they are unable to scream in pain. It is not an uncommon occurrence for horses to stumble upon their own entrails after being badly gored. After a horse has been wounded it is led out of the ring, given crude surgery, and sent back in.

There is a line in the sand being drawn. Transgender communities have been thrust into the media spotlight, and been asked about our bodies, lovers, histories, and how we see ourselves. The moment we start to engage and raise questions around the state’s transphobic violence, our LGBT community leaders turn their backs and proceed to silence us. Transgender leaders are receiving the message that we are only mere tokens, bodies for entertainment, and accessories to make the spaces of organizing diverse and give the illusion of unity.

As we continue to celebrate and honor trailbrazing transgender women of color in the media and national spotlight, let us also celebrate the transgender women who are imagining a visibility that reaches beyond the borders and the jails and the detention centers that restrict us. Let us show up for these women, and support them as they infuse movements for health access, immigration, and racial and economic justice with their lives and bodies.

The main ppl trying to shit on Gabourey Sidibe’s character on Empire for having a love interest bc she’s a big girl are black ppl. Yall be pro-black to a point and its fucked up.

Heavier black women DESERVE representation. They are not here specifically for you to jeer at. There’s a heavy AND dark black woman on primetime with a love interest and thats fucking amazing. Fuck your fucking fat jokes.

Yall whine so much about type-casted black characters but the VERY moment somebody steps out the box yall hate.

And you think after all the shit people of color have been through this year yall wouldnt be feeding into the ignorant nastiness.

November 5th 1605: Gunpowder Plot foiled

On this day in 1605, Guy Fawkes was arrested for planning to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London. Guy (or Guido) Fawkes was born in York in 1570 and soon converted to Catholicism, which inspired him to fight in the Thirty Years’ War on the side of Catholic Spain against Protestant Dutch reformers. His Catholic zeal led to his involvement with Robert Catesby in England, who planned to assassinate King James I and restore a Catholic monarchy by blowing up the House of Lords during the State Opening of Parliament. On November 5th 1605, following an anonymous warning letter sent to the authorities, Fawkes was found in a rented undercroft under the Palace of Westminster guarding the 36 barrels of gunpowder the conspirators had stockpiled there. Fawkes was then brutally tortured, and ultimately divulged the details of the Catesby plot against the monarchy, his signature on his confession a barely-evident scrawl after his long ordeal. Fawkes and his co-conspirators were hanged on 30 and 31 January 1606 in front of jeering spectators. The failure of the plot is commemorated in Britain every November 5th; this tradition began soon after the original plot and was even enshrined in law until 1859. Today, people across Britain still burn Fawkes’s effigy on a bonfire and set off fireworks to commemorate the failure of the Gunpowder Plot 410 years ago.

Remember, remember! The fifth of November, the Gunpowder treason and plot; I know of no reason, why the Gunpowder treason should ever be forgot!

mount olympus: the young olympian goddesses

The Olympian vice. In defiance of that philosopher who as true Englishman tried to give any thinking person’s laughter a bad reputation, I would actually go as far as to rank philosophers according to the level of their laughter - right up to the ones who are capable of golden laughter. And assuming that gods, too, are able to philosophize, as various of my conclusions force me to believe, then I do not doubt when they do so, they know how to laugh in a new and superhuman fashion - and at the expense of everything serious! Gods like to jeer: it seems that even at religious observances they cannot keep from laughing.
