jeanette talks

anonymous asked:

ok u must get this a lot but what are your favorite books with queer protags???

oooooh

- Grasshopper Jungle by Andrew Smith – teenage boy explores his bisexuality as he wrestles with his guilt over a) having feelings for both his best friend and his girlfriend and b) accidentally starting the apocalypse-by-giant-preying-mantis. (literally my favourite book.)

- The Vintner’s Luck by Elizabeth Knox – grumpy vintner bumps into an angel one night when he’s pickled and wandering around the vineyard, and winds up making a date to meet once a year, on the same night, forever. you will probably cry yourself to sleep afterwards.

- As Meat Loves Salt by Maria McCann – sociopathic romp through Civil War era England accompanied by THE WORLD’S SLOWEST BURN and MURDER. even if you’ve been an English Civil War nerd for 15 years before reading this book, this book will forever be the first thing you think of when you think of the English Civil War. a scourge.

- Tipping the Velvet by Sarah Waters – cute girl leaves home and becomes a music hall male impersonator. lesbian shenanigans by the barrowful follow. set in Victorian London and actually has a happy ending! yay!

- Running With Scissors by Augusten Burroughs – a memoir documenting Augusten Burroughs’ teenage years living with his mother’s psychiatrist and his madcap family. I took this in stride when I first read this book at the tender age of 14, but now it gives me PALPITATIONS and a BURNING URGE to ring Esther Rantzen.

- Call Me By Your Name by Andrew Aciman – THE PEACH BOOK!

- The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller – I love this book so much I have to forcibly stop myself from buying a copy every time I see one in a secondhand bookshop. you go into it thinking you’ll be FINE because everyone KNOWS what happens to Patroclus, it’s not like you WON’T SEE IT COMING… and yet. no one is ever fine.

- Maurice by E. M. Forster – astounding and wonderful book that was, surprisingly, written in 1912. there’s sex, it’s a happy ending, it has something very snotty to say about British attitudes towards homosexuality – it’s a joy. plus, the Merchant Ivory film version is full of totty. (yes, that’s Rupert Graves. you see him starkers. just saying.)

- Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz – two Latinx boys falling in love. I read the entire thing in one sitting. it’s won so many awards you can barely see the cover art. deserves all the accolades and love, as it is HEARTBREAKINGLY GORGEOUS.

- More Than This by Patrick Ness – there is absolutely no way to explain this book without spoiling everything about it, so here’s the bare bones: Seth drowns, and then wakes up, alive, but completely and utterly alone. I had to put it down and go for stress walks at least 3 times. so good.

- The Charioteer by Mary Renault – a soldier wounded in the evacuation of Dunkirk recuperates in hospital and tries to choose between two dudes: a young and innocent conscientious objector and a saucy and experienced naval officer. can I get a HAIL MARY?

Bucky stomps his way to the kitchen, grabbing a bottle of water from the refrigerator, he takes a sip, silently fuming.  He perches himself on a stool and leans down to rest his head on his crossed arms in front of him.  He wasn’t sure what this feeling was that had settled in his gut.  He thought he loved Jeanette, he was going to marry her, so of course he had to have some feelings for her.  But Y/n…it hits him all at once, the memories triggering moments and feelings he had never felt with anyone, not even Jeanette.

Everything about you made him happy.  From the way you spoke to him, to the way you made him laugh, even when you were mad at him, you still had a way of making him feel…something.  That something he now knew was love.  Why had he wasted so much time?  You had been right, men really were dumber than women.

He couldn’t remember anyone he was closer with except Steve.  Steve knew everything about him, the good, the bad, the ugly.   He literally had no secrets from Steve, they both knew each other too well.   You were the only person who came close to knowing him as well as Steve did.  Is that why he had never noticed?  Did he not want to lose you, like he had almost lost Steve?  Looking back over your entire relationship, he saw now what Jeanette and everyone else had seen.  How could he have been so blind?  He loved you, not Jeanette.

The sound of high heels on the tile floor of the kitchen has Bucky raising his head, Jeanette came to a stop beside him, placing her arm around his shoulders.  “Where have you been baby?  I wanted to go over some stuff for the wedding.”

‘Baby’ the name has Bucky grimacing, the whine of Jeanette’s voice suddenly unbearably annoying to him.  Jeanette sits on a stool opposite Bucky on the other side of the counter.  She looks at him with an expectant smile which Bucky does not return.  “Why didn’t you tell me you thought Y/n had feelings for me?”

So I have this lady friend that agreed to fuck, only if I bring another girl along. I turn to my friend and jokingly tell her, “Sounds like you’re going to be my wingman then!”

She seemed excited at the idea and agreed. Awesome. I asked her if she wanted to try the club first and she nodded. Off we went.

You will not believe how easy it is for a girl to get another girl’s attention at the club. We spotted this cutie, maybe 5'4", dark hair, hazel eyes. Her dress really emphasized her natural curves. My friend, Jeanette, walked over to the bar where this new girl was standing.

“OMG I LOVE your shoes!”

The other girl quickly smiled and thanked her. Jeanette made small talk about them, their favorite drinks, and then dragged her to the dance floor where I was. She began to grind on me and had the girl grind on her. Jeanette then turned around and begin to kiss me hard. Jeanette grabbed the other girl and pulled her towards me, then I began kissing her too. In a club full of people, it felt like it was just us three. Jeanette grabbed her ass and she didn’t even care at this point.

Jeanette whispered in her ear and she nodded. Jeanette then signaled that we were leaving. I got in the car and they both hopped in the back seat. Her name was Natalia. As soon as I began driving back to Jeanette’s place, I saw them making out through the rear view mirror. Fuck. This was going to be fun…

After her shift ended Ester went next door to talk with Jeanette who owned the café and also happened to be her flatmate.

Ester: “I don’t know what came over me but I wish I could cancel the whole thing. I’m never even been to a ball!”

Jeanette: “Oh stop it. Don’t you know how great opportunity this is for you? You get to dress up and spend a fun evening with the most richest people in town. Stop worrying!”

Finding a Different Kind of Normal by Jeanette Purkis

review by stimmyabby

This is one of my favorite books by an autistic person yet. This is a well-written memoir that is sometimes very intense and is written in interesting and delightful detail. Jeanette Purkis talks about cats, queerness, prison, addiction, pretty rocks, painting, violent outbursts, symbolic braids, socialism, and psych wards in a clear, candid and engaging manner. Would highly recommend.

I'm probably not the first to notice this but oh well

I see a lot of posts about how different people’s appearances and outfits are reflections of John and Sherlock’s relationship, such as Sherlock’s parents, Mary’s outfit the very first time we see her, and Molly’s sweater when she’s standing in for John. Although I’ve never heard anyone talk about Jeanette.

But I think we really should

Remember her? From ASiB

Because COME ON

JUST LOOK AT THE COAT

can we please talk about this
