I’ve been hit by the realization that Lief, Barda and Jasmine were likely raised with the same versions of lullabies, nursery rhymes, and fairytales that parents tell their children. Min raised Barda, of course, but she really raised Jarred and Endon, too.
Rodda leaves a lot of the time on the road undocumented, and I just imagine that Lief starts absently humming a bit of a song early on in the first quest, and Barda smiles softly, remembering his mother, and Jasmine frowns, wondering why something seems to be tugging at the back of her mind.
And later, much later, everything all makes sense. By then the bonds between the three of them are unconquerable, so of course it seems completely natural that the string that ties their fates goes back so very far.
