She walks into English fifteen minutes late, wearing both a deeply unflattering smock and a scowl. Neither are an especially new look on her.
“Vector,” she says under her breath, as an answer to Mary McDonald’s unspoken question. It’s the answer to every question in the room. Ms Vector is notorious among them all for her very strict adherence to the school’s dress code.
“Yes, Miss Evans’ entrance was very exciting, but I’ll have your attention back to the lesson now, please,” says Ms McGonagall. James snaps back to attention. It’s for the best.
“Here,” James says, shrugging off his jacket and thrusting it toward Lily. She gives him this look like, fuck off, and James has to bite his tongue to stop from aggravating her. “They’re doing uniform checks up the hall. Just put it on.”
Evans gives him a very strange look, and it takes him a second to realise that it’s neutral.
She looks good in his jacket.
Every third dress code violation results in a lunch time detention. It’s only October, and Lily’s already had six. She doesn’t look at James as she takes the seat three ahead and one to the left of him.
There’s a thump from somewhere in the back of the classroom, and McGonagall isn’t planning on looking up - it sounds like it came from the general vicinity of Potter and Black, and that’s certainly not a situation she wants to engage with - but the entire class is already turned around to see what the fuss is.
She strides down the aisle between the desks, and is about three years past surprised to find James Potter lying on the floor, gazing at the ceiling, glasses knocked aside.
“Am I boring you so much that you decided to take a nap?” she asks, and James gives this wicked smile, and here we go–
“Sorry, Miss, I can’t get up. It’s Evans’ shoulders - they’re overwhelming me. I simply can’t do anything until she covers them up. Sirius, tell me when it’s safe.”
He’s a funny boy, she’ll give him that. “Potter, get up. This is hardly the time for foolishness.”
Albus sat in shock. could he really break up his brother and Alice? The girl they have both had a crush on for a while was so close, the only catch was destroying her happiness before asking her out.
James was sat starring at albus , his hands intertwined infront of his mouth, a look of tension and anticipation painted on his face as he was awaiting albus’ answer.
Albus started into James’ hazel eyes, he wanted to say yes , he wanted to tell James to break up with Alice, but it seemed too soon. He needed to know whether it was worth breaking up Jalice , he needed to know if Alice liked him back.
“I’ll think about it” Albus said after a long wait James gave out a sigh of relief “ok, take as long as you need”
“But thanks James, means a lot to me that your prepared to do this to make me happy” Albus said sincerely
“No problem, I’d do anything to make my family happy albus, you know me” James said them immediately looked in the other direction. James was trying not to let albus are the tears forming in his eyes as he said what he did. “I’m gonna go but I’ll see you around!” Albus called, walking toward the castle.
James ran his hand through his hair and sat down. What was he doing? He couldn’t give up Alice. He needed Alice.
James walked back to the castle, still lost in thought and blissfully unaware of the brunette walking up behind him.
She wrapped her arms around james waist from behind and burying her head into his back.
James jumped at the sudden contact and came out of his thoughts. He realised she was sobbing.
“Hey,Hey alice what’s wrong?” James said turning around and pulling her closer whilst stroking her hair.
Alice continued to cry into James chest.
He took her hand and lead her through the castle. She didn’t know where they were going but James seemed to, as he weaved his way through several students.
They eventually came to a corridor when James began to pace and was saying something to the wall under his breath, when all of a sudden, a large brown door appeared. The room of requirement.
James took Alice’s hand and lead her inside; there was a comfy sofa positioned right by a warm toasty fire and a coffee table, on Which was two hot chocolates, and in the corner was a large bed with pillows.
James looked at Alice; the tears still evident on her face as her eyes were opened wide, amazed at the scene infront of her. He lightly took her hands and moved her onto the sofa, she was still in shock as a tear fell silently down her delicate cheek. James raised his hand to her cheek and gently wiped the tear away, he left his had resting on her face as he looked into her eyes.
“What’s wrong ally?” James said quietly.
“S-someone told me …. th-that they h-heard you down at the lake today, talking to albus.” Alice said making the tears come back.
James’ heart sunk as he realised what she was about to say.
“They said you told Albus that you were going to break up with me” she said with a small voice in disbelief.
James didn’t know what to say, this of corse was not correct at all.
“Alice look, that’s not what happened” James said then gave out a sigh” I didn’t want to be the one to tell you this , but..”
“But what?” Alice said
“Albus likes you.” James said” and I was trying to be a good older brother so I said I’d do anything to make him happy, but I was never really going to break up with you, I love you too much.” James said apologetically , starring into Alice’s eyes, hoping she believed him.
A smile crept into Alice’s face she put her hand on top of James’ that was still resting on her cheek.
“What about albus?” Alice said, the smile quickly fading from her face” I don’t want to leave him heartbroken, he’s still one of my best friends”
“I don’t know ally” James sighed.
in Slytherin common room
“Albus is that you?” Scorpius asked the raven haired boy as he entered the half empty common room.
“Yeah scorp, it’s me” Albus said with a sighing , sitting down next to scorpius on one of the sofas.
“Umm is everything ok?” Scorpius asked staring into albus’ eyes , concerned.
Albus noticed how his eyes were a brilliant piercing blue , in which he could see his reflection so clearly. He noticed how scorpius’ platinum blonde hair fell perfectly on his head without him even trying. He noticed how scorpius genuinely looked concerned , like he actually cared whether or not albus was okay, his whole appearance made albus feel warm and tingly inside, like he just wanted to lean in and kiss him.
“Scorpius can I ask you something?” Albus asked
“Sure! You can ask me anything!” Scorpius said a little too happily”Sorry.” He added”I’ll calm down now.”
“Are you …. gay?” Albus said looking down , hoping he hadn’t offended scorpius in anyway.
“Umm, OBVIOUSLY!”Scorpius said giggling.”I’ve even had a boyfriend, haven’t you noticed ?” He said still smiling
“I just thought you two were really good friends!” Albus said laughing at his own mistake.
Moved they had both stopped laughing they started deeply into each other’s eyes.
Albus began to move in closer to scorpius , their lips almost touching before-“ALBUS SEVERUS POTTER!” James said storming into the common room causing the pair to spring apart.
“If you want to date Alice then you’ll have to battle me. Qudditch , you , me , tommrow night ,7pm , be there or Alice is mine” James said crossing his arms.
Blush appeared on albus’ face as he looked at scorpius , who was clearly shocked.
“But I thought-I thought you- I thought we” Scorpius stammered.
“Scorpius-I “ Albus said , but before he could finish scorpius had run up to the boys dorms.
“ What was that all about?” James said simply.
“What was that all about? WHAT WAS THAT ALL ABOUT?! THAT JAMES, IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU THINK YOU LIKE ONE PERSON THEN REALISE YOU LIKE SOMEONE ELSE AND THAT SOMEONE ELSE THINKS THERE THE ONLY ONE THEN FINDS OUT THERE NOT AND EVERYTHING JUST GETS COMPLICATED AND YOU END UP HURTING THEM” Albus rambled on, not making much sense.
James stood , confused .
“Ok well the match is still on so turn up if your interested.” James said before walking out of the common room to leave albus.
Albus thought about everything that had just happened could he really like scorpius? his best friend since first year, could he really be crushing on him now?
These thoughts consumed albus as he walked up to bed. What was he going to do?
I like to think that Teddy is the kind of Hufflepuff that people forget exists. Sure he's loyal and caring (and a good finder) and that's important to James, but James loves that Teddy has never behaved a day in his life and that dedication, fair play, and patience can mean different things to different people. Can you write something about that? :)
Let us all remember that Teddy Lupin is Remus’s son, after all.
There was something to be said about waking up in a cozy bed just big enough for two, even if the second person was absent when James awoke.
The sun shone through the paneled windows in such a way that it illuminated the entire bedroom in a soft, golden glow.
James reckoned that a sunrise like this was the reason Teddy was up already, tea charmed to float beside him as he curled into a wooden chair by the window.
And it first James thought that maybe he was seeing things until he remembered the crucial fact that Teddy was a metamorphogus because the boy, no, the man sitting with the Marauder’s Map in his lap watching tiny footprints move across the parchment with dark chocolate eyes had light brown hair hanging in his face.
There was nothing turquoise or violet about him in that moment and James was reminded of the constant web of deceit Teddy wove.
Always fake hair and eye color. It was never his own, not in front of a crowd anyway.
Or unless he was sick, and James had half a mind to ask if he was feeling all right, but the small smirk on his lips that told James he knew he was being watched confirmed that there was no illness to be had.
Although once in a while, the smirk was fake too, but never for James.
And James could say with great pride and confidence that he knew Teddy Lupin better than anyone else.
He didn’t say a word, but he continued to watch Teddy from under the covers of his bed with a slowly growing smile.
Teddy was really quite handsome, even if he hid his natural beauty. James was glad it was reserved for him.
“You’re lucky, Potter.” Teddy said without looking up from the map. “Sunday mornings are rather quiet in the castle, and no one has any reason to come looking for you, especially here.”
James’s smile cracked into a grin.
“What are you implying, Professor?”
Teddy continued to smirk as he folded up the map, uttered a quiet “Mischief Managed,” and took a sip of his tea.
“That it’s a perfect day for you to help me reorganize my father’s library.”
James’s eyes immediately narrowed.
“You can’t be serious.”
“…but I’m Siri-”
“Finish that sentence and I’ll publicly humiliate you in front of the class tomorrow with some embarrassing story that you’ll never be able to convince them isn’t true.”
“Some Hufflepuff you are, black mailing me like that.”
Teddy laughed softly.
“I am dedicated to making you do my bidding.”
“That’s just cruel. You sit there, fully knowing that we have the whole day to ourselves for a change with no one to bother us, and you’re going to put me to work. AND you know I’m naked under these sheets and I have gotten no love from you all day. You’re the worst boyfriend.”
As James waggled his brows, Teddy’s smirk grew wide.
“There’s something in it for you, but you have to work for it.”
James laughed at that and stretched.
“Manipulative ass. Fine. What do I get in return for helping you?” Not that James minded. On the contrary, James was more than well-aware of how important his late father’s library was to Teddy. If anything, he considered it an honor that Teddy would even ask him for help organizing it.
“There’s a corridor that leads to an abandoned Potions classroom in the Dungeon. It’s just out of earshot from anyone that would pass by the main hallway. I’ve been monitoring it for a few weeks.”
James sat up with mild curiosity. The sheet fell from around his hips if he had thought about it with more swiftness, he could have offered Teddy one hell of a view.
As it was, he still got a good view, just not as clear as it could have been, and Teddy was absolutely looking.
Teddy cleared his throat and took another sip of tea.
“I think it would be an interesting place to have a romp, wouldn’t you agree?”
During the winter, their residence was at St. James’ Palace, a magnificent Tudor edifice built by Henry VIII, according to a sixteenth century Spanish diplomat, as a home for his own children. Its interior decoration was exuberant: ‘Painted and gilded fleur-de-lys, sunbursts, white harts, daggers, portcullises and the famous thornbush from which Henry VII plucked his crown on Bosworth Field’ were among its riot of visual display. Summers were frequently passed at Richmond which was further out from London and considered healthier. Nor were the Stuart children without playmates. Brought up with them were the two sons of the assassinated Duke of Buckingham, the second Duke, named George after his father, and his younger brother, Lord Francis Villiers. The King believed that he owed his friend the education of these handsome, lovely boys within his own family and the Duchess, who had married again and converted to Catholicism, was not allowed to keep her children with her when she moved to Ireland with her second husband.
There would also be visits to Whitehall and to Hampton Court when the court moved there for recreation, or to escape the diseases of the warmer months. Charles and Henrietta Maria were, in comparison with earlier monarchs, affectionate and attentive parents but it is easy to sentimentalize their relationship with their children. This was not a modern family, living under one roof. The King and Queen had their own roles to play in national life and they viewed their offspring within the wider context of their obligation and expectations. Still, they came to visit regularly, walking with them in the orchards of St. James’ and inspecting their educational progress. The elder children were brought to court on state occasions to learn what was expected of them in such circumstances. Despite his distant public persona, Charles I was almost most relaxed with his wife and children. Though he had not enjoyed the more carefree upbringing of Henrietta, he seems to have demonstrated greater outward affection towards his children than she did. A small man himself, he kept a record of their heights as they grew, on an oaken staff at the Palace of Oaklands. And they were always delighted to see him, rushing to greet him, for example, when he returned from Scotland in 1638.
about the childhood of the children of King Charles I of England and Queen Henrietta Maria.
Royal Renegades: The Children of Charles I and the English Civil Wars // Linda Porter
The children of Charles and Henrietta were: Charles II; James II; Princess Mary of Orange; Princess Elizabeth; Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester; Princess Anne*;and Princess Henriette-Anne, Duchesse d'Orleans*.
* Princess Anne died of tuberculosis when she was a toddler, and Henriette-Anne was born in Exeter during the height of the English Civil War and spent a very brief period in England as a young baby before moving into exile in France with her mother where she would remain for most of her life, so she did not experience the halcyon days described above.
Mistress of: King James II of England. Tenure: 1667 – 1678. Royal Bastards: Four. Fall From Power: She was replaced by the king.
One brisk morning in the English countryside, the teenage Arabella Churchill was out hunting on horseback. Unfortunately, she fell off the horse and landed in such an improper manner as to show off her thighs to all those who dared to look. One of those who dared was the future King James II of England, the “most unguarded ogler of his time” and current Duke of York. This is at least one story of how James, who had only just lost his last favorite to a sudden illness that was quickly rumored to have been poison, began his affair with Arabella. James was a well-known womanizer, much to the despair of his wife, Anne Hyde, whom ironically enough he had wed after he got her pregnant (though she insisted he had already promised to marry her). Anne was unusual in that she was the daughter of a commoner who rose to become a Duchess of York, causing a great deal of gossip, especially when she gave birth only two months after the wedding. Anne often chastised her husband for his affairs, once even complaining to his father, the current king, who sent the offending woman away to the countryside.
Arabella was the daughter of Sir Winston Churchill (no, not the Prime Minister, though he is a descendant) and his wife Elizabeth Drake, and one of ten children, though only five survived infancy. Arabella was not particularly attractive, described as a “tall creature, pale-faced, and nothing but skin and bone” and her father was not particular wealthy. This made her marriage prospects quite dire, so imagine her family’s joy when such a plain girl attracted the interest of the Duke of York. In fact, James had a habit for preferring intelligent and witty mistresses, rather than beautiful ones.
Shortly after giving birth to their daughter, named Henrietta after his mother, James set up Arabella in a newly built home in St. James Square and was given a nice yearly pension. All of her children - there would be four - were given the surname FitzJames, that is, “son of James”, as if anyone had a doubt as to who the father was. In 1671, Anne died of advanced breast cancer not long after the birth of her last child. She had dutifully produced eight children in just over ten years, though only two daughters survived. The children of Arabella and James flourished; however, and all the children were carefully educated; their two sons in fact sent to France (Arabella often retired to France shortly before or following the birth of her children).
A few years later, James married Mary of Modena, a woman best known for the controversial birth of her son, James Francis Edward, who was rumored to have been stillborn and replaced by a different baby. More importantly for James, Mary also came with an ugly lady-in-waiting named Catherine Sedley. He is believed to have carried on various short-lived affairs throughout his relationship with Arabella, though Catherine would be the one to tear his attention away. Arabella, never one to be publicly recognized as the Duke’s mistress, lived in poverty until her marriage to Colonel Charles Godfrey, with whom she had three or four children. The marriage was a success and the couple lived together happily for almost 40 years. Arabella lived to see her old flame deposed and die in exile; interestingly enough her husband fought against James whereas her brothers had fought for the crown. Following her death, Arabella was buried in Westminster Abbey in the grave of her brother George.

Usually, after tea alice would leave the table and go upstairs to her room, James knew this of corse and had conveniently arrived when Alice was in her room. Neville answered the door to see James stood there. He couldn’t tell which twin James was there to see but he hesitantly let him in anyway, he was not shocked when James ran up the stairs where Alice was rather than joining frank in the living room.
”Hey!” frank said “how come your going upstairs to see her!> I have needs to you know”
“Sorry mate, Alice is my number one priority.” James said as he progressed further up the carpeted stairs.
He made himself light as he stepped up the stairs and onto the landing, he was trying to be quiet so that Alice would not hear him coming.
*Meanwhile in Alice’s room*
Alice had literally just stepped into the shower.
Today had been a very hard and stressful day, she had been working at the joke shop like normal , having a laugh and hanging out with Fred as James wasn’t in because he had to go watch one of his mums quidditch games. So the two of them were having fun and serving customers , all in all the day was going pretty good , when all of a sudden the most snooty , snobby family walks through the main doors. Fred shoved Alice towards the family , implying that she was going to be serving this family
“Hello, is there anything I can help you with today?” Alice asked with her usual tone of politeness she used when greeting customers.
“Well yes there is something you can help us with!” Said the mother , rather more polite than Alice would’ve thought judging on her exterior.
“It’s my birthday, I have money , I want it ALL!” Said the rather obnoxious little blonde haired boy.
“Manners Geoffrey!” Said the mother
“Sure! So what is it you require exactly?” Alice asked the little boy , bending down to his height.
“EVERYTHING!” The boy spat in Alice’s face , alice had never been more offended but she stood up straight and remained professional.
She lead the family around the store collecting everything the boy wanted, all in all it took them 4 hours as the shop was getting quite big and the boy was quite fussy and could often not make up his mind.
“Okay … and that comes to £58 galleons and 5 sickles”
The boy grudgingly handed over his enormous amount of money.
“Would you mind helping us take this back to the leaky cauldron?” Said the sad , probably the first thing he had said all day.
“Sure.” Alice replied.
The bags were very heavy. They lugged them all the way to the leaky cauldron and they left without even giving Alice a tip.
Alice regret-tingly slummed back to the shop, where George told her that her shift was well over.
Alice let the warm water hit her face, it washed away all her stress and bad memories of today and she just became more relaxed. After a good ten minuets Alice stepped out of the shower and wrapped her towel around her. She stepped out of her ensuite bathroom and into her room. She dropped the towel and stepped into her lingerie , blissfully unaware of the door that stood slightly ajar behind her.
* meanwhile back on the landing*
James waited , he didn’t quite know what he was waiting for though. He wanted to talk to Alice about a serious aspect of their relationship.
“JAMES! WE’RE GOING TO DROP ME OFF AT LIAMS HOUSE, SO YOU TWO WILL BE HOME ALONE FOR ABOUT TWO HOURS BECAUSE WE HAVE TO GO SHOPPING ASWELL, BUT DO NOT DO ANYTHING STUPID!” Frank yelled up from downstairs. Liam was franks boyfriend , head boy raven claw , a year older than them. “OK!” James yelled back “HAVE FUN WITH LIAM!”
“SHUT THE FUCK UP JAMES! YOU BETTER NOT HAVE ANY FUN WITH MY SISTER!” Frank yelled back making James chuckle.
The other longbottoms left so that it was just Alice and James in the house.
James finally moved to Alice’s room. He cracked the door open and looked in. His jaw dropped.
He saw Alice , drop her towel so that she was wearing absolutely no clothes , she then proceeded to slip on some lace lingerie and James was awestruck , he decided he couldn’t stay quiet much longer. “ fuck me!” He said
Alice jumped, she turned around to see James at the door ,her face flushed red as she did a nervous laugh whilst pulling her towel to cover herself.
“Soooo uh-how long have you been stood there?” Alice asked James
“Ever since you came out of the bathroom I think. The rest of your family is out taking frank to Liam and shop or something, so I came up here and … yeh” James finished , he was starring down at his shoes , not willing to look into Alice’s eyes just in case she was mad at him.
this is a part one out of two ,possibly three, the part two is actually a request by that Im taking ages to write ((sorry about that x )) but it will hopefully be up soon so look out for it x
