Industry Takeover is a unique showcase that brings together industry heavyweights and rookie artists, trying to get themselves heard. This amazing event was held in east London’s Rich Mix building in Shoreditch, which is a great modern venue due to its design and space. There were special guests on the night such as P Money, Goldie Locks, Logan Sama, Bless Beats and a couple other unknown acts.
The night started with a brief talk about artist, producers and DJ careers. The panel took it in turns to explain to the audience how they had first started doing music, where they were at the present time, and what drives them to be who they are in the game. About an hour later, the music side of things was underway. Grime and dub-step spitter P Money opened with his hit song “Speaking Slang”, this got the crowd on a hype and very soon they were roaring, ready for more.
Competition time brought hopefuls from the audience to the stage. Instead of watching people perform we were given the chance to perform ourselves and share our talents with the rest of the audience. The winner would be offered a chance to perform at the next Industry Takeover. Jamie Walker, a person from the college I was attending, took to the stage and smashed it with his 64 bars rap - I think he did well. Other members of the audience were good… but not as good as my class mate.
Overall, I was impressed with the event, because it was different from any other show that I had been to. The food and drinks were nice and everything went according to plan. There were no interruptions and I gained knowledge about events, thanks to the special guests sharing their experiences. I am truly grateful that I went to the event.
