Just watched first episode of Young Justice Invasion and who else wants to cringe every fucking time Jaime (Blue Beetle III) says "ese" or "jefe" or whatever?
Like, I’m not too familiar with the character but yes Young Justice writers, he’s Hispanic. We know. You could have just had him, oh I don’t know, say a few phrases in Spanish from time to time instead of throwing a few “ese’s” in there and calling it a night.
On top of that he’s from El Paso, Texas – I live in Texas and my family used to live in Brownsville which is right on the border between the United States and Mexico and I have not heard or known a single Hispanic person say “ese” my entire life while I was there. What the actual fuck??!!
Any fellow Hispanic comic book lovers out there who are as pissed off about this as I am? I would love to hear your thoughts about it!
I’m participating in a Teen Titans collaborative art project. I’m doing a portrait of Jaimie Reyes as the Blue Beetle. I’m really excited to be a part of this. I’ve always loved Reyes’s character, and the whole Beetle mythology. Here’s a collection of sketches I did today to prepare for my piece. To find out more about the project, and see the Titans who’ve already been completed click here.
My favorite male character??? Oh God this a hard question… Hmmm…. I really do like them all, but I’d have to say my favorite is Jamie Reyes, also known as, Blue Beetle!!!
I mean, just look at him! He’s so adorable! Not to mention he’s a really sweet guy and will do anything for his friends! One of the best additions to the new team in my opinion :) plus it’s hilarious when he argues with the scarab. Scareb? Skareb??? however you spell it!
BLUE BEETLE #1 Written by TONY BEDARD Art by IG GUARA and RUY JOSE Cover by TYLER KIRKHAM and SAL REGLA On sale SEPTEMBER 21 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T It’s not easy being Jaime Reyes. He has to deal with high school, family and all the drama that comes with being a teenager. Also, he’s linked to a powerful scarab created by an alien race known as the Reach who seek to subjugate planets – or annihilate them. It’s up to one teen hero to turn this instrument of destruction into a force for good.
Tony Bedard, a writer who is most prominently known for his work on Green Lantern Corps from DC and Exiles for Marvel! Just think of the wide scope of characters that Bedard has work with, the diversity in persons and powers. I think he will do brilliant on Blue Beetle, plus it is another character added to his collection he has worked with. With that amount of arsenal under his belt he could write everything.
Ig Guara and Ruy Jose, artists whose work i have only seen once and that was in the recent Flashpoint: Green Arrow One Shot. Pretty good art if i don’t say so myself, elegant and effectively design layouts! I look forward to seeing their work.
And of course, the character Blue Beetle/ Jaimie Reyes. A Hero that we have been waiting to have his own prominent run with the DC Universe again for a long time. And he is a teenage hero that i want learn more about, this is mine and yours perfect chance.

Not been a fan of Legion of Superheroes much. Apart from the Cartoon Network show! So i guess this would be a great jumping on point for me to discover more about these characters. I don’t even recognise the characters set on the cover, which interests me, i want to know who and what they are.
Is it bad of me to have not read any books from Paul Levitz? Especially after him working on nearly every DC title under the sun?! I have heard many good things about his work so it is exciting that we will be seeing a well received writer taking on these Teen Heroes.
Portela, he has worked the longest on the Black Panther run from Marvel. His work is okay to say the least. Not the most spectacular.
