Rereading is THE BEST
Excuse me, I must run off to reread Anne Bishop’s The Black Jewels Trilogy!
So, I haven’t reread a book yet this year but I’ve been extremely stressed out lately so I figured now is the perfect time for some comfort reads.
Sure, if you’ve read them, you might think The Black Jewels Trilogy is an odd choice for comfort reading, but I just love these books so much!
And I love that I had no idea what I was getting into when I bought the first in the trilogy, Daughter of the Blood. You see, I bought it in November 2003, right before flying home from college. I figured it’d be a nice, easy fantasy to read on the flight. Because the covers looked like THIS:
OH HO HO HO was I mislead. I mean, what, with its evil Queens, its, uh, slavery through cock rings, it’s three main male characters: Saetan, High Lord of Hell, the black-winged Lucivar Yaslana, and Daemon Sadi, as well as the Daughter of the Blood, herself, not to mention the DRAGONS, The Daughter of the Blood really took me for a ride. I read the whole thing on the plane and bought the next two as soon as I got home.
Seriously, Roc Fantasy, what the ever-loving fuck with those covers??
Anyway, I haven’t read them in probably seven years and they are just as amazing as I remember them, the pages smell the same, even Saetan is just as lovable! (Yes.)
So, here I am, recommending them to you! I say, if you’re a fan of Game of Thrones, Jacqueline Carey’s Kushiel’s Legacy series, Storm Constantine’s Wraeththu series, high fantasy or dark fantasy in general, or, say, if you’ve read Laini Taylor’s Daughter of Smoke and Bone and are looking for something similar in adult (and I mean ADULT) fantasy, give these books a try.
And the covers are really pretty now!
