Don't be a dick Rotg edition

The fall of the guardian fandom as seen by me.

Ok Phil made a comment about the fandom was slipping away from the true spirit of the movie. She also indicated crac/Au’s were taking over

True there were some valid points, but the delivery needed bit of work.

Some agreed some disagreed.

the-tooth-fairy made a very well thought out counter argument. jack-jackfrost made a nice middle argument.

the-tooth-fairy:

Okay, I had to think for a moment how to respond to this, honestly, because I have made some posts about this in the past.

I won’t lie, some of the points seemed a little hypocritical to me, but I won’t go much in on that. That is neither here nor there. The fact of the matter is, crack sells. Serious blogs don’t get much attention, don’t get much interaction. I mean, it’s just what it is, and I don’t really think it’s going to change much.

Yes, the point of the fandom is the movies, but that’s not all it is. There are thousands of people in this fandom who find interest in a great many things, and unfortunately, not everyone is going to share the same point of view. Some people just have blogs to have fun, to interact with both friends and new people. Not everyone is 100 percent interested in pure canon, because that is extremely limiting to play with.

I personally think all the AUs and the crossover fandoms are great - it gives room for character growth, gives room to explore creativity. Sure, some headcanons get a little out of hand, and not everything needs to relate to suicide or sex or whatever, but c’mon, not everything is. A lot of it is just people having fun, with random plots, random characters, but always lots of fun.

Besides, it seemed pretty obvious you were calling out certain people, people a lot of us know, and I couldn’t help but think that most of this post was incredibly rude. I’m not really one for confrontation, but I’ve seen the calling outs before, and it’s getting really upsetting. One is entitled to their opinion, just like the rest of us, but it wouldn’t hurt to be just a little less obvious.

Anyway, this has gotten far longer than I intended, and really the point was to say: Obviously people aren’t going to be happy with the way the fandom is going, and even I find myself occasionally annoyed by it, but it’s not like everyone is ganging up and personally trying to attack someone with their headcanons and AUs and crack-plots - and to be quite honest, I doubt it’s gonna change any time soon. It just is what it is, and really the only advice I can give is either tumblr-savior it, unfollow, or block it out.

Sorry if I sounded rude, I tend to be pretty blunt sometimes.

~ Sabrina

jack-jackfrost:

Okay, so I’m not the only that thought of that.

I don’t mean to be rude either, but I agree. I agree with BOTH Emily and Sabrina. I love the fandom, but crack and AU, if you think about the creativity people have to make other verses that still keep the character somewhat canon? I think that’s both a feat considering that quite a lot of people actually accept it and can also see the canon characters from the AU point of view.

I could guess that the lack of resources and high quality clips from this movie pretty much slowed down the flow of analysis, simply because the standard of the cam-copy that has been floating around doesn’t give us much to work with.

tl;dr, I still have faith in the fandom. Sure, we skewed from the original canon and story line in the first place, but isn’t that what happens when fans explore their ideas and challenge their own opinions of something that was as brilliant as a movie like Rise of the Guardians? It happens in ALL fandoms, not just this one. This movie itself just seemed to have a lot more of an impact on most of us because it hit us in our childhood and a majority of us took it personally, not just as simple entertainment.

the-tooth-fairy:

That was very nicely put. Thank you for putting it in kinder words than I was able to. I am aware I am a pretty straight-forward kind of person, and can be a little harsh with how blunt I am. I don’t mean any harm by it, but my words always seem to hurt someone somehow. Thank you for understanding what I was trying to say! I mean, it’s not like I am flat out disagreeing with Emily, I admit she does have a lot of fair points in there. I was just trying to give my two cents, in a way!

Then some dipshits sent Anon -hate to Phil, Sabrina-Tooth and to several oc blogs. Different haters mind you.

Phil leaves frustrated and very much hurt for voicing her opinion and being lashed out at. Once Phil leaves several anons lash out at Sabrinamun blaming her as the reason Phil left.

Please Please Please

Instead of being dicks keep your assholery to yourself.

Guys, you don’t understand;

there are no requirements for being part of this fandom.

I don’t care if you’re an AU or OC roleplayer, or just a person who reblogs stuff; you are still every bit a member of the ROTG fandom, alright?

unless you send anon hate

So Fans/Believers/ Frosties just don’t be a dick

Please If someone posts or expresses an idea you don’t like or care for just ignore it. There is too much drama in the world for you to be spreading more.

Love Rime

(Ps if I tagged you it’s because I stole you’re words and also cause you’re awesome.)
