Imagine being an old friend of J’s and running into him on the beach.
“J!” You shouted upon seeing him on the beach. “I’ll catch up with you guys later,” you waved to your friends before running over to where J was with a few men.
“How are you doing? I haven’t seen you in weeks!” Wrapping him in a hug you felt him tense, as always.
“Yeah, I moved in with my grandma,” He replied.
“Who’s this?” One of the men asked coming up and his elbow on J’s shoulder, trailing his eyes up and down your body.
“Y/N, she used to be my neighbor,” J answered, giving you a look you couldn’t quite understand. He almost looked concerned.
“I’m Craig, J’s uncle.”
“Hi,” you said giving him a little wave, adjusting your footing uncomfortably. Having this kind of male attention was always weird to you.
“Deran, J’s other uncle,” the other man said standing on the other side of J.
You shot him a smile. Something about these men made you grossly uncomfortable, perhaps it was just the vibe J was giving off.
“We were about to head into the water,” J said after a moment of silence. “I’ll call you or something later yeah?”
You couldn’t help the shock on your face, J had never actively pushed you away when you would run into him before.
Craig seemed to see this, “You surf?”
You nodded, “Doesn’t everyone?”
He chuckled, “Why don’t you join us? We’ve got an extra board back in the car.”
“I’m sure she has other things to do,” J said taking a step towards you. The look on his face told you that he didn’t want you around, and you couldn’t help but be hurt by that. J had been one of your best friends before his mom passed.
Craig punched his shoulder, “dude, don’t be a cock block.”
You let out a small laugh, “It sounds like J doesn’t want to spend time with me, so I’ll see you guys later.” You gave a small wave and started walking away, trying not to be hurt by the way J acted.
You didn’t get far before a hand latched onto your arm.
“Hey, I was just thinking, could I get your number? Maybe we can do something sometime.” Craig said as he stepped in front of you, blocking you from walking away.
‘Umm, yeah I guess.” Taking his phone, you put in your number, figuring if he was just a creep you could ghost him or something later.
“Awesome, I’ll see you later.” He took off running back to where J and Deran were waiting.
You stood there for a minute, watching as they walked off.
J turned and looked back at you. His steel face didn’t escape your notice.
