THE UNHOLY THREE (1930)
8 x 10" (20 x 25 cm.) gelatin silver print still, USA. Lon Chaney, Lila Lee, Elliott Nugent, Harry Earles, John Miljan, Ivan Linow; dir: Jack Conway; MGM. The legendary last film and only talkie of iconic “man of a thousand faces” Lon Chaney. Here he plays both the ventriloquist Professor Echo and Grandma O'Grady. He had made the film under Tod Browning’s direction as a silent in 1925. It is the story of sideshow performers who double as an “unholy three” (Grandma, the strong man and a midget) in order to steal some jewels. In still labeled “494-38” we have Chaney playing Grandma O'Grady with Ivan Linow as strongman Hercules.
