So, after a massive marathon reading session, I finished The Mark of Athena.  And I freaking loved it.  It certainly met my expectations!  Things get rough really fast, but lighthearted moments and humor were spread out well in order to keep things from getting too dark and depressing.  The balance between seriousness and comedy reminds me of the Sensui Arc from Yu Yu Hakusho, now that I think about it, and just like in YYH it really enhances the quality of the story, in my opinion.  And as usual, the characters shine.

To the two of you who warned me about its ending, I appreciate it.  It was indeed painful.  But God damn, that’s how you write this kind of ending.  Lull the reader with a false sense of security, then BAM, throw the twist at them!To be honest, I kinda guessed that it would end with Annabeth going into Tartarus (the foreshadowing for it wasn’t that subtle by the end), though I wasn’t expecting Percy to go with her, and that softened the blow a bit.

I’m really glad to be back in this fandom again.  The House of Hades is gonna kick so much ass, and I can’t wait until it comes out!
