I visited Maui for a week and I was inspired by how beautiful the beaches, the clouds, and the sunsets are. It reminded me of Destiny Islands, so I made Kingdom Hearts cut out art and took photos <3 I made these by drawing in my sketchbook, cutting them out, and waiting for the wind to be friendly enough for me to take a proper photo with my phone. I got hella sunburnt, but it was worth to get these shots <3

Humans are Weird: Memory and Grudges

So, Humans have this thing with keeping grudges and remembering every single wrong thing someone has done to them. And like, everyone deals with them differently. We have the petty people

Glock’norga: Human Anita can you help me?

Anita: Nope

Glock’norga: Why?

Anita:  You remember 10 months when you smacked me in the face with your tentacle and never apologized?

Glock’norga: Im sorry!

Anita: Its too late to apologize.

Glock’Norga: It was an accident though!

Anita: Well Im gonna accidentally not help you, bye.

We have the ones who actively seek revenge. And make sure the revenge is worse than whatever happened.

Jaliack: *Steps on a lego with a tack in it* Ow!

David: Ha! Thats what you get!

Jaliack: You put this here?!

David: Duh.

Jaliack: Why!?

David: A few days ago, you got peanutbutter in my hair.

Jaliack: I apologized! ANd you didnt get hurt!

David: You didnt sound like you meant it and I spent 3 hours getting it all out my hair! I told you I’d get you back!

And then youve got the people who’ll just take your apology.

K’lanack’ac: *Spills water on Jess* Oh no! Im so sorry!

Jess: Oh its fine.

K’lanack’ac: But it got in your hair!

Jess: Its cool dude.

K’lanack’ac: Ive just…. heard from the others that Humans can be a bit… mean when something bad happens to them.

Jess: Ohhhhhh youre talking about Anita and David? *Laughs a bit* They just hold grudges but I dont

K’lanack’ac: So… you wont ignore me when I need help, and you wont play a very mean prank on me?

Jess: Nah

I’m so torn because on the one hand I love seeing a new side of Sarek but on the other hand every time he shows her even a modicum of kindness I’m filled with so much anger on behalf of Spock, like have you spoken to your son lately???? or did you already disown him??? You personally brought her to her ship and hand picked her captain but refused to acknowledge Spock for 18 goddamn years for joining Starfleet??? Sarek my dude what’s the deal????? She’s got a piece of your motherfucking katra and you use it to encourage her from light years away after she commits mutiny but you will show Spock nothing but disdain for most of his life??????

Please write a short fic about tony catching peter drinking i would die omg

“Hey, Peter,”

He froze, eyes widening as he heard the all-too-familiar sound of expensive leather brogues scuffing along the floor a few meters from him, and he turned quickly, brow furrowed into a deep V as he watched Tony wander up to him, all smiles and casual posture, hands buried in the pockets of his grease-stained jeans. He looked like he’d come straight from the workshop, stopping only to throw on a leather jacket along the way.

Why he was here at all, however, made no sense at all.

“T- Mr Stark,” Peter said, trying to communicate with him through eyebrow movements alone. If it turned out that he had to suit up and help out somewhere, he was pretty fucked, considering the fact he’d had a bit to drink at the party he’d been invited to.

Well. He said ‘a bit’. It was possibly more accurate to say ‘a fucking shit-ton’, but whatever.

Tony looked at him blankly, before shooting another smile toward the circle of people who were stood around Peter and staring quite blatantly at the both of them. “Hello, ladies and gentlemen, I’m afraid I have to take Mr Parker away. He’s an intern at Stark Industries, you know how it is. Lots of work, yadda yadda, okay bye,”

And before Peter could even open his mouth, Tony had grabbed him by the arm and snatched the solo cup out of his hand almost angrily, pulling him away from the group of people and through the crowds of rowdy teenagers that littered the huge house.

“Uh, Mr Stark, wha’dd’ya want me for, exactly?” Peter asked, speaking loudly above the blaring music and wincing at how slurred his voice came out.

It had been a weird month, okay. He was just trying it out.

Tony paused, and Peter saw him purse his lips even tighter before beginning to walk again, guiding Peter through the crowds and holding him tight as he stumbled a little.

“Hey, Parker, leaving so soon?” Flash called out from somewhere to his left, and Peter stopped turning to face him as the other boy wandered toward them. “We haven’t even begun yet, Jesus, are you a pussy or what-”

“Kid,” and suddenly Tony had let go, spinning around and walking up to Flash, who seemed to suddenly recognise who exactly Tony was, because his eyes went hilariously wide and he stumbled backward a few steps. Peter snorted involuntarily, and he saw Tony turn briefly, before shaking his head and looking back to Flash, “it seems like you’re having an absolute ball here, but I’m gonna say something and I’m only going to say it once.”

Tony looked down at Flash, eyes harsh as he drew a little closer. “Leave. Peter. Out of it. Do you understand? He is not here for you to manipulate, not here for you to bully into trying out crazy shit for your amusement-”

“Tony, what the fuck,” Peter blurted, frowning and stepping forward, more than a little put out. He’d only just managed to get accepted by Flash and all the other popular kids, and Tony was just going in, ruining it all, “you’re not my dad- don’t tell me or my friends what I can and can’t do.”

Tony turned, eyebrows raised. “Friends?” He snorted, shaking his head and walking over to Peter once more, taking him by the arm. “You haven’t called in with Aunt May for two days now,” he hissed into Peter’s ear, “she’s worried sick. You are coming with me, right now.”

“No ‘m not,” Peter pushed his hand off, looking over at Tony in anger. “You are fucking….embarrassing me…. in fron’ of my friends-”

“They are not your friends!” Tony snarled, pulling his arm again, “your friends are all currently at home, worrying their asses off because this is not like you, Peter, and they didn’t know what to fucking do, so they ended up calling me. Now you will fucking follow me out of this goddamn place right now, or I am hauling you out.”

GOT7 as College Students
  • Jaebum: somehow smuggles a pet into his dorm even though they're strictly prohibited and his roommate is probably allergic (it's fine, he's sure of it,,.. he hopes)
  • Mark: the kid you didn't know was in your class all year because they sit in the back and never speak up (seriously has he always been in this class?)
  • Jackson: is friends with everyone on campus but doesn't know half of their names. probably also on a first name basis with his professors, honestly
  • Jinyoung: asks to compare homework constantly. he knows his answers are right, and yours are probably wrong, he just wants to feel better about himself
  • Youngjae: STILL plays pokémon go in between classes. doesn't realize he's about to walk into a fountain until it's too late (how convenient that his overdue essay is ruined)
  • Bambam: takes his finals in glitter pen because he forgot literally every writing utensil back at the dorm and it's his LAST HOPE, OKAY? IT'S BETTER THAN THE IDIOT USING RED PEN NEXT TO HIM (probably yugyeom let's be real)
  • Yugyeom: accidentally ends up in an upperclassmen lecture but by the time he actually pays enough attention to notice, it's too awkward to get up and leave. learns a great deal about civil engineering that day, though

parker insists that he doesnt normally sleepwalk.

i have no idea if its true or not; for the sake of anyone who lives with him (myself occasionally included) i hope it is.

however. when he’s sleeping off a few injuries and is pain-medicated enough that its effective on his jacked up metabolism, he does

which would not normally be a big deal. thor sleepwalks too, and the only problem with that is he sleeps naked. so i thought nothing of it when peterbird wandered into the common room late at night with his eyes closed. he kinda just showed up and then stood there, so i figured id let him be and went off to go make myself some hot chocolate. ten or so minutes later, i stepped around the divider wall back to the common room.

and promptly had the everloving daylights scared out of me.

why? you ask, why were ten precious years scared off your ridiculous life, bucky???

well. because parker was standing right on the other side of the wall, about two inches from my face. with an alarmingly vacant expression on his face. because he was sleepwalking.

he was sleepwalking on the fucking ceiling

How Dean should come out on the Show...

I daydreamed this up at work whilst evidently not working and wanted to share it with you… If only I could pitch it to Andrew Dabb…

Okay so picture the scene. A generic MOTW episode with Sam and Dean and no Cas because he is off hunting Lucifer apparently (though since this is MY episode idea instead I am gonna say that the only reason Cas is sitting this one out is because he is currently visiting Claire and Jody for some R&R and the bros are stopping off to deal with this very minor hunt on the way to meet him and the girls. So THERE BOB SINGER.)

Anyway. The hunt is pretty straightforward, its either a Vamp, a standard salt and burn or I dunno, a Rugaru whatever you feel like. The monster isn’t important. What is important is that this is a DEAN centric episode. They roll up into this sleepy little mountain town somewhere in Colorado (or wherever, location isn’t important either) and go to interview the first witness.

The first witness is a guy in his late thirties who clearly used to be a looker but the years have been hard on him. He can be anyone you wanna imagine. (preferably for me I’d say he’s dark haired and blue eyed but that’s my own preference *wink wink*.) the guy immediately recognises Dean. There goes the FBI cover story. Dean is completely taken back by this guy and gets kinda goofy around him much to Sam’s surprise and amusement. The guy (we’ll call him Jake) is really happy to see Dean and starts talking about how long it’s been and how he thought he’d never see him again after Dean left town. There is clearly a back story here hence why we get a nice close up shot of Dean’s face looking all sad and reminiscing before we cut to…

Young Dean, about 17 years old (played by Dylan Everett of course) is in the town with his dad and Sam whilst his dad deals with another hunt and he is skipping school. Through some consequence or another, Dean meets the younger version of Jake and they become friends.

Throughout the episode, the story skips between the past and the present showing just how close Dean and Jake became as teenagers, though the subtext is obvious, the audience is still completely oblivious and thinks they are just friends. In the present time, Dean is obviously awkward around Jake and Sam continuously teases him and tries to get more info out of him about him and Jake’s past, since Dean never mentioned him to Sam. Jake outs himself as gay/bi pretty early in the episode in a similar way to how Jenna did in 11x02. It is never focused on, just mentioned in a passing comment about his “ex boyfriend” or something. No one even raises an eyebrow of course.

Jake either already knows they are hunters (maybe his family were the victims of whatever John was hunting in the past) or maybe he only found out now because he was a witness to the present day monster (or maybe the two monsters are connected who knows) but Jake is determined to help the boys in the case in present day. This leads to him getting hurt bad (maybe he dies but I hate that trope with a passion so since this is my story and not Bucklemmings the gay guy LIVES.) Dean is pretty broken up about it. He goes on about never bringing people with them into the hunt and how dangerous their lives are and this is why they can’t have relationships. Sam raises his eyebrows but doesn’t say anything. The Drs confirm that Jake will be okay but he is sleeping and Dean can’t deal with it. He leaves the hospital with Sam on his heel and gets into the Impala.

Sam asks why they are leaving? doesn’t Dean wanna say goodbye to his friend?

Dean just shakes his head. They ganked the monster but someone got hurt once again. Its best if Jake just forgets he ever met Dean Winchester.

We cut back to the past. Dean is upset that he has to leave another town, another school, because his dad is taking him away again. Jake comes running up to him asking him whats wrong? that its okay because they can just meet up again? He can get a bus and visit Dean where he is moving to. But Jake of course doesn’t understand Dean’s life and it just makes him more upset. The two boys hug and when they pull apart Dean takes the initiative. He kisses him. There is no ambiguity about it. It is innocent and sweet and in no way platonic. The boys relationship was more than friendship all along. When they pull apart Dean tells Jake he will miss him and then he leaves. Young Jake is left watching as young Dean walks away from him.

We cut back to present day Dean. Sitting behind the wheel of the impala clenching his jaw. He doesn’t say anything but Sam just looks at him with a sort of pity. Sam may not know the details of what happened between them like we as the audience do, but he knows something, because Sam always knows. The impala drives off into the night and we cut to credits.

In the next episode everything is exactly has it always has been, Cas is in the next episode and acts as he always does. Nothing else is different, but suddenly the audience has a different perspective on everything they see. Because you see, Dean Winchester kissed a boy when he was 17, and therefore Dean Winchester has been bisexual all along. Nothing has changed, and yet everything has.

:)

the thoughts of an artist //just my thoughts right now

So, I hear you liked TURN.

Apres the Season 4 finale, I know there’s going to be a lot of crying, and hand-wringing, and rewatching, and these are all good and proper things to do in the wake of a TV show you’ve enjoyed.

But after the smoke clears from all of that, you’re maybe going to go looking for your next 18th century fix, just something in between rewatches or while you’re trying to flesh out your next story idea. (Hey, now that we have our canon, go hog-wild on story ideas, guys, seriously.)

So I’ve saved you some trouble and made you all a helpful list.

Obviously there are a lot of movies and TV shows out there - this is just a selection that I wish more people knew about.

Note: Everyone enjoys a show or movie for different reasons. These shows are on this list because of the time period they depict, not because of the quality of their writing, the accuracy of their history or the political nature of their content. Where I’m able to, I’ve mentioned if a book is available if you’d like to read more.

Before we get to the rest of the list, there are three excellent shows that are either currently on television or about to be very soon:

Poldark (BBC/PBS) is based on a series of books by an author named Winston Graham. It was made into a PBS series in the 70s starring Robin Ellis as the handsome Captain Poldark, who returns from the American Revolution to find his family farm in tatters and his long-time love interest married to his cousin. Drama ensues. The 70s series is worth your time, and the recent remake with Aidan Turner in the title role is also definitely worth a go. (If you like leading men who make terrible life decisions and the women who put up with them, this is totally your show.)

Harlots (Hulu) - If you really loved the TURN ladies, thought Lola and Philomena deserved more than they got, or are just interested to learn more about what life might have been like for the lower classes in London in the 1750s, have we got a deal for you. Harlots follows the lives of 18th century sex workers in this new drama, which was just recently renewed for a totally deserved second season. Female-lead ensemble drama. A little violent at points and deals with some pretty heavy-duty topics like rape, murder, and bastardy, but in a humane and understanding way. Totally bingeable.

Outlander (Starz) - Based on the wildly popular series of books by Diana Gabaldon, this time traveling drama jumps between a couple of different centuries and follows the story of Jamie and Claire, two very strong personalities trying to literally find their place in history. (Hewlett talks about the blade his grandfather picked up at Culloden; that battle forms a critical part of this show’s storyline.) It’s a real pretty show with very high production values.

And, without further ado, the rest of the list!

John Adams:  If you haven’t watched this already, do yourself a favor and go pick it up from the library. Starring Paul Giametti in the title role, this HBO miniseries follows John Adams’ role in the formation of America, through his early days in Congress up through his own presidency. As with any biographical show, characters that we know and love from other media (Rufus Sewell’s Hamilton comes to mind, but see what you think of David Morse’s Washington, too) are presented in a slightly different light and provide some food for thought about how history can be selective in how it remembers us. The costuming is great, the sets are fantastic, and the acting is first-rate.

The Patriot: An oldie but a goodie. Mel Gibson plays a highly fictionalized version of Francis Marion, the Swamp Fox while Jason Isaacs turns in a really stellar hottie we love to hate in Colonel Tavington. A little heavy-handed at times, this is a good movie to laugh over with friends.

Sons of Liberty: I’ll be really honest - for a show from the History Channel, the history on this show is pretty awful. But the cast is pretty. This one’s up to you, really. It fills a hole.

Garrow’s Law: William Garrow was a barrister and a pioneering legal mind in the 18th century, and this show (which ran for 3 seasons) is based on real Old Bailey cases and Garrow’s defenses, while also working in his fraught social life. Were you interested in learning a little more about Abe Woodhull’s erstwhile legal training? This is the show for you.

City of Vice: A miniseries that explains the origins and work of the Bow Street Runners, one of London’s first police forces.  Does a great job of opening up some of the early 18th century underside of London including a smidge of 18th century gay culture.

A Harlot’s Progress: William Hogarth was an 18th century artist, printmaker and social commentator whose “A Harlot’s Progress” famously depicts the downfall of a woman who goes into prostitution. This 2006 series explores the relationship that inspired the ‘Harlot’ piece.

The Incredible Journey of Mary Bryant: At around the same time America was busy trying to figure itself out, halfway around the world another one of Britain’s colonial possessions - Australia - was just getting started. Hundreds of convicts found themselves stuffed in ships and sent to the other side of the world - a sentence deemed almost more humane. This 2005 series with Romala Garai follows a very famous convict, Mary Bryant, and her experiences.

Banished: Another take on penal colonies in Australia. Currently available on Hulu.

Black Sails: A more recent offering from Starz, this show explores the backstory of the pirates in Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island. Lots of great representation issues, a whole lot of ‘how does your story get told’ - and there’s a real big community on Tumblr who loves it and very actively produces all kinds of fic.

Clarissa - Simcoe fans, this one is totally for you. Based on the epistolary novel by Samuel Richardson, Clarissa follows a girl of the same name as the infamous rake Lovelace tries to seduce her. Another look at what how women can be corrupted. Also, for you fandom nerds in the crowd, Lovelace was one of the first characters to inspire fix-it fic. Yes, really! Fix-it fic in the late 1700s. Lovelace is one of the original men for whom the ‘No, really, I can reform him’ trope was created. (Richardson, his creator, was so horrified by this reaction by his fans that he actually revised the book several times to try and make Lovelace even more villainous and irredeemable, with little success. Then as now, women apparently love the idea of a bad boy.)

Amazing Grace - The history of slavery in England and its colonies is complicated and nuanced; this story deals with one of the more famous names from that story, William Wilberforce, and his contribution.

Belle - Based on the true story of Dido Elizabeth Belle, the mixed race daughter of a Royal Navy Admiral. Another look at racial politics in England.

The Aristocrats - One of my all-time favorite TV miniseries and based on the nonfiction book by Stella Tilyard, this show follows the (actual, nonfictional) Lennox sisters, daughters of the Duke of Richmond as they grow up, marry, and adjust to rapid social change from the early 1700s into the 1790s.

The Duchess  - About the same time the Lennox sisters were out in society, so was Georgiana, the Duchess of Devonshire. This is based on (I’m not sure how closely) Amanda Foreman’s biography of Georgiana, one of the leading ladies of her day.

Dangerous Liasons - Another story about corruptible young women, this one has 3 very well deserved Oscars to its name and an absolutely stunning Glenn Close.

Barry Lyndon - a very evocative, sumptuous film by Stanley Kubrick. Short on action, but very, very Aesthetic, as only Kubrick can do.

The Scarlet Pimpernel - Based on the book by Baroness Orczy, The Scarlet Pimpernel is largely considered to be one of the world’s first ‘superhero with a secret identity’ stories. Sir Percy Blakeney uses his identity as a dim-witted fop to provide cover for his activities rescuing French aristocrats from the guillotine during the French Revolution. The 1982 version with Anthony Andrews and the 1999 version with Richard Grant are both a lot of fun.

Speaking of the French, where would we be without them? Our small domestic dust-up with Britain has far-reaching international consequences, setting in motion so many other social movements in Europe. The French, for instance, will have their own revolution several years after ours, which, of course, will lead to a total political shakeup ending with an artillery officer named Napoleon Bonaparte on the throne as Emperor. (You may have heard of him. He goes on to have his own series of large wars and, you know, completely changes the geo-political landscape of Europe. Like you do.)

La Revolution Francaise, filmed for the 200th anniversary of the Revolution, is available on YouTube in it’s entirety with English subtitles! Starts in 1774 and goes through the 1800s. C’est merveilleux.

Marie Antoinette - Sofia Coppola’s wild, modern romp through the life of one of the 18th century’s most notorious women. It may not be great history, but darn me if it isn’t fun to watch.

Farewell, My Queen - Another story about Marie Antoinette - this one is in French.

Nicolas Le Floch: An 18th century crime procedural set at the court of Louis XVI. The whole show is in French, so watch with subtitles, but the costumes are a lot of fun and it gives an interesting picture of the life a character like Lafayette would have left behind when he came to America. (He gets name dropped a few times, actually, though he never actually appears.)

Ekaterina: A 2014 miniseries from Russia discussing the rise of Catherine the Great, the Empress of Russia from 1762 to 1796, contemporaneous to the Revolution. The 18th century is a fascinating time in Russian history and Catherine is a really, really interesting lady. Totally go and read about her.

Anno 1790: A Swedish crime procedural set in 1790s Sweden and following Johann Däadh, a doctor recently roped into the police force. Däadh is a bit of a reformer, interested in the rights of man and giving everyone a chance to be heard. Costumes are fun, and there’s a really great slow-burn romance between two of the characters, one of whom is (gasp) married. This show only ran for one season, but it was a really, really good season.

If you’re still jonesing for period dramas after the rest of this list, here’s a lot of shows and tv series set during the Napoleonic Wars that are also totally worth your time - the Richard Sharpe miniseries, the Horatio Hornblower miniseries, the BBC’s War and Peace, Master and Commander, and then, of course, anything based on a Jane Austen novel.

Have fun!

im sick so… have some sick newsies headcanons because why the hell not

(these are also totally not in character but im sick myself so i think that gives me a free pass to be a little ooc - also these are definitely modern au)

jack - literally everyone thinks he’d be that one sick friend that gets all obnoxious and loud as hell and whiny, but really its the exact opposite. he just stops talking .. jack just kinda totally just secludes himself from the other newsies and becomes super withdrawn and quiet and it FREAKS the others out because why isnt jack saying more than 3 words at a time??

davey - he has this weird fear of accidentally taking medicines with ingredients that will react with each other so he tries any and all home remedies he can think of (and find online), holding off on antibiotics until he ABSOLUTELY needs to take them, usually seen carrying around a half empty gallon of orange juice throughout the duration of his illness

crutchie - will vehemently deny any signs of illness, but secretly takes super super good care of himself if he feels the slightest bit under the weather. “crutchie, you feelin okay?” “yeah! of course— but wow its getting late im exhausted, i’ll see ya in the morning pal.” “crutchie its only 7pm” “i know, jack. goodnight.”

race - serial napper™, race: “nothin a good night’s rest cant solve”, also race: sleeps for upwards of 18 hours, the downside: when he’s awake, he’s either incredibly cranky or incredibly loopy and out of it, albert likes to screw with him when he’s loopy but davey just gives him the disapproving dad glare so he stops and makes sure race is comfortable and not in any pain instead

albert - is probably 100% convinced he’s dying during the course of any illness he’s had to deal with. one day, albert has a cough: “god, race what if i’ve got black lung?” “well, first off- you don’t work in a coal mine—”, coincidentally the ONE time his life is actually in danger, he has no idea. “albert, you could’ve died- for real. your appendix exploded” “you guys dont know what you’re talkin about, it was just some stomach cramps. i’m fine now!” “yeah after emergency surgery??”

spot - totally the whiny one, but isn’t afraid to be whiny because he’s spot conlon and his body is tryin ta kill him, dammit, but that doesn’t mean the other boys wont try to tease him, because they totally will.. although after the first time, spot’s cold, tired gaze and mostly empty threats freaked many of the boys out enough to lay off of him after that (not race tho lol, that boy is relentless)

finch - poor dude gets really persistent fever dreams.. buttons will sit by his bed sometimes while he’s out cold just to keep a watchful eye on him and catch finch mumbling about ‘toucan sam stealing his french toast’ or ‘batman beating him in the triathalon’, the funniest part is all the others recounting the stories to finch the next day because he doesn’t remember them

specs - kinda your average sick friend, only occasionally specs will lose his train of thought and completely zone out, or completely forget words sometimes (because his brain gets super super fuzzy when he’s sick, and he hates it, but there’s not really much he can do about it). “specs can you hand me that pencil over there?” “…………huh?” “the pencil. on that table over there.” “……….” “pencil-” “—oh, the uh- the- pencil, yeah sorry.”

romeo - binge watches like its nobody’s business, he’s usually pretty average when sick, but if you sit that boy in front of a television he’ll end up marathoning all the lord of the rings movies without even realizing it, and he’ll completely zone out, but still somehow remember everything he watched… sometimes he even falls asleep watching reruns of seinfeld and remembers vague details about the plot of the episodes that happened WHILE he was asleep.. nobody has any clue how he does it… race calls it his hidden talent

buttons - basically turns into a human magnet. he becomes super super touch starved when he’s sick, but he’s sick so none of the other newsies can be around him because they cant afford to get sick either. it got so bad at one point that finch just took one of his shirts, tied the sleeves off, and stuffed an old pillow inside of it. buttons was so out of it the first time he had no idea, but now pillow finch is his go-to sick buddy

jojo - jojo the jello fiend™, it doesn’t matter what he’s sick from, jojo will ALWAYS have jello when he’s feeling under the weather (i guess its like a comfort food maybe??) his favorite flavor’s orange and for some reason he only enjoys jello when he’s sick, if he’s offered jello on any other occasion he’ll refuse it? which nobody understands… but if the other boys are sick and jojo is particularly worried, he’ll make jello for them and it just becomes understood that jojo really cares about you if he’s made jello for you at any point in your life
