Hey nonny, saw your Prozac post earlier. Bby psych student here. Just wanna make sure I understand? You think the Prozac isn't helping because you've got BPD, not just anxiety and/or depression, so lithium would be more helpful to you than an SSRI?
my new pcp(good doc, head of the department) weaned me off it because according to him the symptoms i described from the first 2 months of prozac were consistent with an ssri-induced hypomania, which is…. not rare… and he was like “okay so i’ll take what you have left and i’ll give you a 4-week supply and here’s your weaning schedule because if you go cold turkey it might be bad”
that’s all that happened its just that before that i had to deal with my shitty old pcp(bad doc, yelled at me) and she’s just….. an ordeal. every time.
see, when i started prozac i THOUGHT it was working just fine because i felt great and was doing things properly but…. it was just hypomania triggered by the prozac :/// and now i have to start from square one and go thru some specialists to see if it was JUST ssri-induced and not latent bipolar disorder.
which sucks ALL kinds of dick because (and here’s some interesting info for u since yr a bby psych student) the psych community is pretty clingy to retroactive diagnosis of latent bipolar disorder when it comes to ssri-induced mania. because it’s impossible to disprove something thats latent you know?? and if i end up wrongly diagnosed with bipolar–or worse, wrongly diagnosed of NOT having bipolar–the treatment(or lack thereof) could screw over my wellbeing completely.
and since bpd is often comorbid with bipolar, i’ve got to rethink my methods and be more attentive bc i thought my only comorbidities were depression and anxiety and ugh. it’s all so irritating and expensive and it sucks ass :////
