For who could ever learn to love a beast?

Merry Christmas, Meg!

It was going to be one great big Plantagenet joke, but I got sidetracked.

Original here

Except for the few, adorable moments he dedicated to kids, he walked that red carpet as if there was fire burning under his feet. Of all people, he had Simon Jones attached to his hip the entire time and that was only part of the horrible company he had to endure throughout the evening. And yet no Danielle, who’d be always so very willing, alongside him. Beautiful, but tense, dedicated to nicest fans but mostly detached, he might have nothing to promote but a dubious girl band project coming up and yet he could have made a good use of such a fitting opportunity to bask a bit in the spotlight, get a little more attention, spread his enthusiasm about his personal and professional moves. Instead he ran faster than Forrest Gump, chose not to discuss anything of what is publicly associated with him at the moment. Why? Is he as private and shy as Danielle shielding the wrong side of her face from the mean mean paps?

One day it’ll end, but today isn’t obviously that day. And calling that a happy, free, willing Louis is like attending a Donald Trump convention and judging him a wise, competent, upright person.

Queen of Shadows has a really lovely habit with its ladies giving other ladies the tools to their own salvations. None of them outright ‘save’ each other in that sense (or let themselves be saved by anyone but themselves)

Thinking about Lysandra/Aelin and the fact that Aelin allowed Lysandra to kill Arobyn for everything he’d done to her, given Lysandra’s role as a courtesan and how few choices she’s been granted in her life and the fact that Arobyn was the one who initially pushed her down that path giving her that bit of choice and that bit of agency and allowing her to rid herself of her own tormentor makes for a really powerful narrative.

The Elide/Manon dynamic is interesting as well because they both see through each other so much. Manon tells Elide to drop the stammering helpless little girl act because she can see ‘that vicious mind’ working away beneath the surface and Elide’s first conversation to Manon about hope, the hope for a home being the reason she obeys is really telling too because I think it is that and I think a big part of it is also protecting her thirteen, her sisters, her family and Elide gets that. The ‘do you think monsters are born or made?’ and Elide’s reply of ‘I’m not the one who needs to answer that question’ is 100% perfect, this dynamic is so compelling and enticing and I’m beyond here for it, if it never gets explored again in any sense it’s going to be one of the greatest losses and wastes of potential in the history of the world my god.

Basically: A+++ for the f/f dynamics in Queen of Shadows more please.

Tim Drake rocks middle-aged mom-hair better than most middle-aged moms.
