Body language vs Pheromones

More humans are weird: we are super into body language as a species. Like, we’re so into body language that we created cute pictograms to insert into our otherwise non-pictographic language specifically to add facial expressions to text communication. Which in and of its self is super cool. Most species have some form of this, like mating dances etc, but most of them also have pheromones to go with it. We do to, but we aren’t very good at sensing them or at least picking up that we’re sensing them. We rely on visual cues as our primary form of none-oral communication. So what if aliens are more pheromonal? Their body language is secondary to their chemical communication, so for instance they have a harder time flirting with someone across the room because they can’t smell/taste them. An alien and a human watch one of their friends at the bar interacting and the human say “we aren’t getting our drinks for a while, looks like Claire found herself a catch” and the alien is confused because how can you tell if she’s interested from across the room. You can see it on her face of course. Or! We describe some pheromonal cues visually, like when we describe pregnant women as glowing.
Human ‘Preeya looks amazing right now’
Alien ‘She seems rather tired right now actually’
Human 'Well, yeah, carrying a baby is hard, but she’s got that pregnant glow’
Alien (concerned) 'Do humans produce bioluminescence when they are pregnant? That was not in the books! She does not appear any brighter’
Human 'What no not literally, it’s just.. idk a thing pregnant women have. Like an aura of life’
Alien 'Oh you mean her pheromones. Got it.’
Human 'What? I can’t smell anything.’
Or
Human Mike returns to ship after unsuccessful night at the bars
Mike: Hey guys I’m baaaaaack (slightly drunk singing)
Caro Lyssan: Hah, struck out huh?
Mike: What? Yeah this Caro chick was all over me one sec and then the Cupid Shuffle came on and when I started dancing to it she looked really grossed out and left. How could you tell?
Lyssan: You have rejection stink all over you man. Take a shower it’s making me sad
(The Cupid Shuffle is highly offensive in at least six cultures because shuffles are considered to be highly vulgar, similar to hip thrusting on earth)

ive been thinking abt things so heres a list of 100% Canon Bart Allen things that are Relatable and also we should talk abt more bc listen. Bart Allen is Autistic (and has adhd !! thats practically canon at this point i mean his name is impulse for fucks sake)

Low Empathy:

(Impulse, issue #7)

[caption: text bubble that says “And Inspiration to the empathically-challenged everywhere”]

this may not seem like the hugest deal but i think its super cool that one of the most fun and Cheerful and friendly characters in the DC universe who like, everyone calls super sweet all the time is “empathically challenged” (kind of crude wording imo but the point is !! bart allen has low empathy !!)

Difficulty Understanding Social Cues:

(also from Impulse #7)

[caption: a comic panel of a very pissed off carol bucken saying “don’t tell me, let me guess– you’re late because of something max forced you to do and he won’t let you tell me what it is or why.” to which bart responds with “you really do get it. cool”]

carol is pretty obviously pissed here, and bart takes it super literally and assumes she’s cool and understanding, it doesn’t seem like he can read her tone all that well !!!

Sensory Related Meltdown:

(Young Justice, issue #12)

[caption: comic panel of bart allen vibrating uncontrollably and looking very stressed out. he’s saying in an extremely panicked voice “cant.. had to go.. so fast.. having trouble… cant focus… cant… need max… wally… somebody.. help me bring it down… cant…”]

(context: Bart thought he could vibrate fast enough to get the whole team through a wall. and while he succeeded, it was super overwhelming and This Happened)

this ones not as blatant but honestly from my own experiences with sensory meltdowns/shutdowns this seems like a good representation of one ? (plus with added superspeed …)

stimming !!!!!!

(Young Justice, Season 2 Episode 12)

[caption: two gifs of bart allen tapping his hands and bouncing his leg]

i dont think this needs much of an explanation but just look at him go !!!

this got long bc of captions ! so TL:DR Bart Allen is autistic and has adhd and is fantastic

Wait. Jaden smith tweeted out Eric Nam’s Can’t Help Myself MV. O.o
Like…… that’s a hella good song but like….. I wouldn’t expect….. jaden smith to……. like it I guess????? He said he was into Kpop but like I expect more like kiphhop or at least more hard hitting kinds of Kpop….. THIS IS SO FUCKING BIZARRE

Idk if this has been asked before but how does summer camp run all year? Don't children usually go to school during most months? Also it's super cool that you basically get to live near so much nature.

Summer camp runs from June through August, but in the spring and fall, we have educational programming. Schools will send whole grades here for a few days of outdoor education.

Some awesome apps i have for stimming. Most are free, I believe Shadowmatic and Monument valley aren’t free anymore.

Heat pad is really nice and colorful. Its super cool, i’d check it out… And you earn new color schemes by playing the app! No purchase necessary!

Fluid Monkey is the second app and it’s a liquid paint stim game where you drag your finger across the screen to make pretty colors swirl everywhere.

Thisissand is a really calming game in which you draw with colored sand. There are some in-app purchases that only enhance your experience. They’re not necessary.

Relax melodies is a really nice app that has calming sounds. Some purchase necessary to have a full library of sounds and to import your own music to mix with the sounds.

Magic piano is a rhythm game in which little glowing orbs go across the screen and you then tap them to create pleasant piano music. Subscription required to have access to songs labeled “VIP”

Twist is a Ketchapp game (i mention that because there’s a few ketchapp games on here) thats really good for taking out your frustrations. Its a simple “tap at the right time” game, and i got really good at it! My high score is 118! If you get good enough at it, it’s mindless!

Smash hit is a game that can be frustrating, but hear me out. Its so satisfying to hear the glass shatter when you hit it with the metal marbles. This is by far the most frustrating game on this list, but i think the frustration is worth it.

Flutter and Flutter: Starlight are two very calming games in which you take care of butterflies and moths (respectively). If you turn on notifications for these apps, beware, they send you at least one a day (if that bugs you (pun!))

Stack is another game by Ketchapp that is very satisfying to play and it’s actually very pretty. The blocks/bricks are in gradient and its nice to look at.

Shadowmatic is a relaxing (paid) game in which you rotate objects to make the shadows look like easily identifiable silhouettes.

Zen koi is similar to flutter, but instead you play as the fish. You breed them and upgrade them and try to collect rare fish.

Pigment is a very calming coloring book app that’s ios only (sadly :

Monument valley is a paid puzzle game. I consider it an anti-physics game, if that makes sense? Its kinda trippy.

imago is similar to 2048 but with colors!

bridges is basically the same as flow, where you connect two dots of the same color. I love getting all the stars by completing the puzzles in the least amount of moves possible!

some apps that are helpful but not pictured are:

flow

pocket frogs

listen on repeat (i have this in another folder actually)

neko atsume

you can send me any that work for you!
