Why can we find geometric shapes in the night sky? How can we know that at least two people in London have exactly the same number of hairs on their head? And why can patterns be found in just about any text — even Vanilla Ice lyrics? Is there a deeper meaning?

The answer is no, and we know that thanks to a mathematical principle called Ramsey theory. So what is Ramsey theory? Simply put, it states that given enough elements in a set or structure, some particular interesting pattern among them is guaranteed to emerge.

The mathematician T.S. Motzkin once remarked that, “while disorder is more probable in general, complete disorder is impossible.” The sheer size of the Universe guarantees that some of its random elements will fall into specific arrangements, and because we evolved to notice patterns and pick out signals among the noise, we are often tempted to find intentional meaning where there may not be any. So while we may be awed by hidden messages in everything from books, to pieces of toast, to the night sky, their real origin is usually our own minds.

The strangest, and sometimes the most painful thing about leaving a chapter of your life behind is that you don’t really know you’re on the next chapter until you look back and realize you can’t “go home,” anymore. You’re in a new place, doing a new thing, and this is your home, now. The people surrounding you are your new family. The familiar patterns and schedules you used to take for granted are now memories. You can’t go back, and you can’t stand still, so all you can do is keep going forward. It’s scary, sometimes, and the disconnection can hurt for a long time. Thankfully, I’m surrounded by good people, I love my new job, and the house I now reside in is comfortable and secure. We’re in the process of making it ours, painting walls, putting down new flooring. Slowly opening boxes. Trying to give away, recycle or throw out things we no longer need.

This morning it was 31 degrees out and I gleefully scraped ice off my windshield before work. Every tells me I’ll learn to hate snow, but honestly I think that’s a far off yet. I’m done with 100+ degree summers and winters that are nothing but cold rain and black ice in a city that has no concept of salting streets. At least people here don’t regularly die from exposure trapped in their car or home while 911 gives a constant busy signal. But the Triangle not knowing how to deal with winter conditions is a completely different subject. I don’t feel in danger here just because there’s a little ice, is the point.

Delaware is beautiful. All reports of it having constant gross rainy weather are greatly exaggerated, at least in Newark. An hour from the coast, there’s a constant breeze, and just as many beautiful blue days as stormy ones. The air is so clear here, compared to anywhere else I’ve ever lived. I can’t get over just how blue the sky is. I’ve gotten so used to there being a constant haze over the larger cities I’ve lived in. It’s literally and figuratively a breath of fresh air.

So much has changed. Right now, I’m on a daytime schedule, which is very hard for me. I did a lot of my Internetting–including writing and finding artwork and posting to tumblr–between calls while I was at work. When I’m not at work, I’m usually up to something else, or I’m sleeping. I don’t have a lot of spare energy, so I have to ration it, most days. Unfortunately that has meant staying away from any form of social media, these last several months.

Slowly, things are settling into a new pattern, and I’m starting to find time between doing other things to check up on my e-mail and messages. There are so many. I’m sorry I haven’t been able to even start answering them until now. I’ve tried, a couple of times, and just wasn’t able to keep it up. I think, and hopefully I won’t jinx myself saying this, that will start to change in the coming months, and I’ll have more time to be here and talk and post. I still haven’t forgotten about that forum. I still intend to finish it (and I still need help with graphics for it).

I don’t usually participate in Nano, but I’ve thought of doing it this year. I don’t want to promise anything, but I have an idea I’d like to try out, and part of it involves posting here daily, or at least as often as I can manage. We’ll see–if life just hands me too much to do, I’ll have to abstain, but time and energy willing, I might have something fun for you, since I once again will miss out on Halloween (though if I remember correctly, my queue will not).

Speaking of queues…mine will run out on the 31st of December. So I have something of a deadline. If I am not here and posting by that date, my account will go silent, and I desperately don’t want that to happen. I’ll do my very best to be more present by then.

I’ve had other changes in my life, as well, that have been as profound as my relocation. I can’t say a whole lot about that except I’m constantly astounded by the wonderful people I have in my life, and that includes people I’ve met here. The FFVIII community has literally changed my life for the better, and I have never been more grateful. You might not know it, but you’re a part of it. Thank you.

I hope to be including tumblr in my daily activities again, soon.

Not a joke guys. With Disney deciding to allow Milo Murphy’s Law to air on Disney Channel sometime after the Disney XD premieres, it’s now part of the Watch Disney Channel App and Online Streaming site with the many Teen Sitcoms!

Oh and looks like the new episodes will premiere tomorrow afternoon FIRST before their Disney XD premieres. That’s a change of pace given that the other original animated XD shows (ones that are good like Gravity Falls and Star Vs., definitely Wander Over Yonder) don’t air their shows often on Disney Channel which they do deserve to show up there during weekends (like Disney XD on Disney Channel block). And they even had Pickle and Peanut premiere some episodes on Disney Channel a few months ago! Well, I guess not all will ever get that treatment after the decision to move all of the original animated show to Disney XD and only pick a few ones instead of a routine showing every weekend.

That aside, well, Disney does trust Dan and Swampy given Phineas and Ferb’s big success, so I guess good on them for introuducing the DC viewers Milo. Hope they can make up for the underwhelming XD ratings at the start. Cause right now they expect the show to do as well as P&F money wise.

The only Disney XD shows that aired on Disney Channel currently (this does not include previously aired shows that ended their run even and when they first premiered on Disney Channel, except for a few ones based on popularity in ratings and company interests):

  • Walk the Prank (very popular show, it took up the whole block in most of the weeks within each month)
  • Lab Rats Elite Force
  • Star Vs. The Forces of Evil
  • Gravity Falls (highest rated shows on Disney XD, so no surprise they’ll rerun the best episodes on DC)
  • Pickle and Peanut (random episodes to fill in time and considered modest profits from XD given its cheap budget from the other animated shows with higher budgets)
  • Kirby Buckets
  • Phineas and Ferb (it did much to the channel and XD, so no surprise)
  • Star Wars Rebels
  • Marvel shows
  • Soon: Milo Murphy’s Law (might as well call it the Disney Channel/XD Original Series from now on, first time in 2 years)

Original Animated Shows that have aired on Disney Channel before moving to Disney XD (as the Disney XD on Disney Channel Block):

  • Phineas and Ferb (All of the episodes with XD premieres of the last few S1 episodes to its series finale in both times and channels)
  • Gravity Falls (All episodes with first XD premieres for S2)
  • Wander Over Yonder (First 14 overall episodes for DC, XD premieres for the rest of S1 and all of S1 aired on DC, S2 only premiered on XD, no plans for DC premieres for the rest of the series; last original animated show to switch to Disney XD during its S1 run)

Shows that premiered its first episode on Disney Channel before airing the rest on the Disney XD on Disney Channel Block:

  • Star Vs. the Forces of Evil (Series Premiere only, had some S1 and S2 episode premieres on DC on occasions after their XD premieres)
  • Penn Zero: Part Time Hero (Series Premiere only as a Christmas Special, had a few DC premieres after XD premieres, but has since never aired the rest)

Did I ever mention how much I love cooler weather and less humidity? It adds time to my morning routine of getting ready, but oh the things that I can do with my hair without going poof!. While I was getting ready this morning the elusive cat appeared to watch me put my make-up on.
Dinner last night was absolutely delicious and super healthy since I only had one serving of pasta and it was whole wheat pasta.
The scenery is absolutely beautiful with the trees changing colors and the deer out at dusk. Ahhh I just love it up here. And to be sharing all these wonderful things with M just completes my heart in more ways than I can imagine.

Welp guys I’m one of those 1,000 poor saps who pre-ordered the special edition Journal 3. It’s too expensive to be a casual purchase, so it’s gonna count as my Christmas present.

But my promise to you is: The minute I get it I am going to post videos or pictures for everyone out there who can’t afford to get it.

First Lines

I was tagged for this by the always lovely Liz (@anotherwinchesterfangirl), and just from reading her post I thought “Wow there are a lot of fics here I need to read.” You guys should check her out!

Rules: List the first lines of your last twenty stories (or however many you have altogether). See if there are any patterns. Then tag your favourite authors!

  1. There’s a knock at the door, a loud, frantic kind of knocking that doesn’t stop after a few seconds. (I’ll Make You Fall in Love)
  2. Getting Sam to take his nose out of his law books and attend any sort of social gathering was harder than pulling teeth. (Won’t You Take It Easy)
  3. “You and I both know you’re not gonna pull the trigger.” (11x23 Coda)
  4. Thanksgiving, New Years, Easter… most of the time holidays passed the Winchesters by without fanfare. (Light Up the Sky)
  5. Sam races out of the motel room faster than a demon out of a broken devil’s trap, resisting the urge to retch into the pot of a nearby wilting fern. (This Could Be Hell)
  6. They don’t say much during the drive back to the seedy motel to get their things. (11x17 Coda)
  7. “Dude, I found a major case in California,” Dean says, without even bothering to lead up to it or preface with casual hunting talk. (The Happiest Place on Earth)
  8. Sam, Sam, Sam, Sam—It’s been more than three years since he had to listen to people that weren’t there chant his name at him. (11x02 drabble)
  9. Sam wakes up to the sound of the horn blaring incessantly. (11x01 drabble)
  10. Sam doesn’t mean for it to happen. (11x04 drabble)
  11. Sam does his best to keep his raging emotions off his face. (11x14 coda)
  12. Sam barely had a chance to register the pain. (It Must Be Heaven If You’re Here)

Oh my Chuck that’s all I have?? I need to get busy, you guys.

From looking at this it seems I either start a fic with a long dramatic sentence, or a short sentence that requires the reading of the next one to make sense. Also five fics in a row started with the word “Sam,” haha.

I don’t know who of these haven’t been tagged yet, but some of my favorite authors are @winchestersinthedrift, @withoutaplease, @wetsammywinchester, @blushingsamgirl, and @whoaeasytiger (who it won’t let me tag for some reason). Also, Liz, I know you did this already, but @anotherwinchesterfangirl is one of my favorites too and I want you on this list.
