it's fandom not a job

So, serious talk.

How is anyone supposed to both have a full time job and be a solo 1d fan?

Like… how?

How?

this (like every other antiblack thing that happens in kpop) just proves how you guys care more about your idol being “a pure unproblematic sunshine” than you care about the black community within and outside of the fandom

Also friendly reminder that fiction doesn’t exist in a vacuum and that James’ situation hits close to home for myself and a lot of other people in the fandom. When you criticize James for not dealing with the situation in the way you think he should, for not respecting himself enough, or for not being “brave” enough to walk away from the situation, for those that have been where James is right now, it feels as though those criticisms are directed at them as well.

And it doesn’t matter if that’s not your intention, that you mean for those criticisms to only be directed at James. At the end of the day, it’s still going to affect those that see themselves in James and what he’s going through.

like?? if y steal food ok mAybe that's ok so u don't fucking starve but how are you feeding your children with 90$ worth of sephora products, karen? also it's all privileged rich ppl doing this shit. lifting fandom get a job pls.

Yep, mostly rich people. Had this rich lady come in weekly to steal the same skeins of yarn. Because of her we were perpetually out of stock and people would get pissed off. I once restocked the whole bin before she came in. We went back to look after she left and BOOM all gone. She only paid for three, which was shocking considering she never paid for any before. -Abby

you know what’s pretty fuckin fantastic about the zombies run fandom

we have little to no canon character designs and only very few clues of what some could look like. The main character is literally everyone playing the game and there’s a lot of potential (and canon) queer, a lot of freedom to imagine and decide the characters etc

(stuff that usually causes some fandom war or another)

but it’s like everyone’s just agreed that nothing and everything is canon - like, is five mute? if that’s your headcanon, that’s fantastic!!! are they not? great!! are sam and five platonic/romantic? you do you friend!!! any other otp? well it probably works out then! any other character headcanon?? let’s hear it!!!

ALSO EVERYONE’S SO SPOILER CAREFUL IT’S AMAZING like everything spoilery is warned about and under read more and such

the main character can be male, female, genderfluid, trans, intersex, literally anything and i’m just so happy that i’ve never ever seen anyone argue about ‘what’s right’ regarding any of the characters? idk it’s pretty great to have a fandom where there’s no drama in the tag and people just bond over running and characters who develop and sports bras and crying

BK: During Aang and Zuko’s heyday, the ability to bend lightning was an incredibly rare skill usually reserved for the inner circles of Fire Nation royalty and high-ranking military officers. Now, in the thick of the Avatar world’s own Industrial Age, we see that this skill is, while not widespread, common enough that it is practiced by blue-collar workers changing up massive batteries in the city’s power plants. This kind of work is incredibly taxing on a person’s chi reserves; that’s why the plant bosses tend to get desperate, strapping young men like Mako to sign up for the grueling task. Some fandom things I want people to leave in 2016
  • Nonblack people lecturing me (or any other Black person) about antiblack racism and erasure in fandom – if you experience fandom differently as a NBPOC and think it’s not possible for fandom to be racist, at the very least, make your own post and stop derailing ours.
  • Claiming that fandom as a “safe space for female sexual exploration” excuses outright racism and misogyny that permeates fandom
  • Acting like critique of fandom (especially slash shipping fandoms) equals the OP saying “slash shipping is BAD”
  • Forcing people to disclose their trauma in order to validate their shipping or critique of shipping - seriously, that’s none of ANYONE’s business and i’ve seen too many people disclose their trauma because they felt pressured, only to have their experiences dismissed
  • Stalking people in fandom.
  • For the love of god. Stop stalking people and harassing them because you feel you’re right and they’re gross. Whether or not you’re morally right, that is still stressful behavior and you will figure it out once the adrenaline wears off and you wind up PANICKING. Just block people, report them if you feel they’re doing something illegal and/or against site TOS, and move forward. Your therapist will be proud of you for not engaging. Trust me.
  • Hux
  • Can we please leave everyone’s favorite red-haired Space N@zi behind when 2017 starts? At least Kylo is an actual important character… Hux is basically a minion who will hopefully die in the next film.
  • C@ptive Prince fans explaining why the slavery in their favorite work of fiction isn’t even remotely the same as chattel slavery (except… it is) to Black people.
  • Just stop explaining shit (about racism, about antiblackness, about slavery) to Black people. Rarely do we ask and rarely are y’all right.
  • Demanding that people of color educate you for free. Toss us some money, buy us shit off our wishlists. But please, don’t assume that educating you is our job.

Hi, I'm fan of the Arrow from Ukraine. I'm totally in love with this show and its characters and I asked my friends to watch it and they loved it. It's so awesome to be in this fandom. Thank you for your job, I wish you good luck and let this show stay awesome as it is now. And also I wanted to ask (idk if somebody already asked this question) will we see Dolph Lundgren as Kovar again?

First, thank you!

And, yes, you will absolutely see Dolph return as Kovar this season.  He’s awesome.

anonymous asked:

You are tho, you are selling your fan fiction. I hope the fandom doesn't follow your example because it's frankly disgusting. Get a job. I'm not paying your stuff, because you're not an "artist".

So everybody, I wasn’t going to bother with an anon who clearly didn’t read anything and is just looking to lash out with hate at anything that scares them.

But I wanted you all to take a look at their message.

  • We’ve already well established that NO ONE is selling fanfiction.
  • We’ve already well established that this is about getting advance access to chapters before they hit Ao3 as usual, IF someone is interested in doing so, as an aside to access to original, non-fandom work written by myself.

If you’ve followed this blog from its early days, you’ll know I’m one of the fastest people to turn around and say you can’t sell fanfiction, considering its history. So why would I contradict myself? Because again, what’s being offered is a sort of ‘expedited shipping’, and along with the option to also have access to my own original short stories, it’s just a fast-track to fic chapters that will always, always be posted to Ao3 a day or two afterwards anyway.

But I want you guys to look at the language this anon is using- writers looking to support their main craft (short stories/screenplays) through a side craft (fics), just as visual artists do (selling fan art to support their efforts on original pieces and personal marketing), are “disgusting” and writers are “not artists”.

“Writers are not artists” this anon says.

This person doesn’t think we deserve to appeal to a section of our audience who might want our work faster, not even selling said work, and offer them a way to do so.

This anon thinks that writing isn’t a job. They think we don’t spend hours upon hours agonizing over what we write, deleting and reworking and deleting again, sending chunks of writings to friends and fellow writers asking for their cherished opinions and advice on what they think of it and how to make things better. They think we don’t practice like mad and read voraciously to get better at what we do- what do you think prompts, drabbles, and the rest of those things are ultimately for?

Our blood, sweat, tears and dedication to spend time creating work isn’t worth anything because it isn’t “visual” and the status quo says we don’t deserve anything for it, according to this anon.

The very idea that it could be disgusts them.

I want you guys to look at what we’re up against, the kind of vitriol writers who also write for fandom face when they open up and say, “Hey, I also do other stuff, and I also offer a cool thing where I can hook you up with advance copies of fic chapters through a service like Patreon before they come out if you want as well.”

People like this anon are happy to take advantage of your work and read to their heart’s content, but they’ll be damned if you expect them to hold it in the same esteem as other forms of fan work.

We have to stand up against this kind of attitude.

Because I’m nothing if not consistent… I’m not all that jazzed about Killian being Emma’s deputy. I’d have been all good with them adventuring their asses off together from now until the end of time, but not as sheriff and deputy. I hate that dynamic because it takes the equality of their partnership away.
