it's amazing how he's basically just starting out in this film

Go Go ‘Power Rangers’ (2017 Review)

Is this good? Is this bad? Will my inner-child allow me to judge this appropriately?

“Power Rangers” is a reboot of the classic 1990s action-packed children’s show “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers,” which in turn is based on the Japanese tokusatsu “Super Sentai Series.” It’s directed by Dean Israelite and stars a cast of young actors, as well as Bryan Cranston, Bill Hader and Elizabeth Banks. The film is set in the small, fictional town of Angel Grove, where local high school students Jason Scott, Kimberly Hart and Billy Cranston (Dacre Montgomery, Naomi Scott and RJ Cyler, respectively) are all caught up in detention. Through a series of shenanigans, they come across Trini and Zack (Becky G and Ludi Lin, respectively) as they all discover an ancient, otherworldly construct. It’s there where they meet Zordon (Cranston) and his robot assistant Alpha 5 (voiced by Hader), and attain the responsibility of becoming a powerful team known as the Power Rangers, and to stop the destruction of an ancient, powerful witch known as Rita Repulsa (Banks).

This is the absolute perfect “what if” movie. The answer to “what if they remade ‘Power Rangers’ for adults” question. This is the film we asked for, albeit cautiously. We really owe it to franchises such as the “Transformers” series, because without them, this film would be seen as an impossible reach.

Being a millennial, I was very much a child when “Power Rangers” had its long television run, and I stayed true through each incarnation, from “Mighty Morphin” to “Lightspeed Rescue,” and considered myself a retired fan after “Dino Thunder” (I was already in middle school at the time). So yes, shameful as it is, I know my shit. As you can see, I want this to be good. But was it?

Yes. Surprisingly, it was pretty good. It’s not shockingly “I thought this was going to be shit but it ended up being amazingly amazing” good. It’s just good.

Here’s one thing that the film does better than the TV show: the acting. In a great departure from the “Saved by the Bell” mood that the 90s actors gave us, we now have grounded, realistic, rebellious teenagers. These new actors fit the “teenagers with attitude” description way better than the 90s actors ever did. You have Montgomery as Jason, playing the rebel who ends up having to deal with the most responsibility. Scott plays Kimberly, the girl who does a good job of not just being the obligatory female casting, or the fighting damsel-in-distress, unlike the original. The dialogue between these two is usually filled with charm, whether its casual banter or a proclamation of their contempt for Angel Grove.

But they do something different with the rest of the cast, which helps to modernize them. Cyler as Billy provides the humor and keeps the grittiness from ever getting lower and lower. Of the five teenagers, he is the one with the most charisma But he also serves to represent autistic teens everywhere. Yes, unlike the television counterpart, they made the Blue Ranger autistic, which is a pretty bold and commendable step for something based off a children’s property.

To keep the ball rolling, they then make Becky G’s Trini represent lesbians and confused, oppressed teenagers everywhere. Okay, this film had me at shedding light on autism, but encouraging more LGBT representation? Hats off to you, Lionsgate and Saban. Despite this, I found Becky G’s performance to be slightly annoying until about halfway through the movie, when they developed her much more, and gave her a more integral role in the plot.

While I praised the rest of the cast, I’d have to drop the axe on Ludi Lin as Zack, the Black Ranger.  Compared to all these convincing performances, Lin’s is absolutely haphazard. The way he is introduced is to set up how much of a cocky outsider he is, so naturally he’s by himself. He then starts speaking to himself, which is one of my absolute biggest pet peeves in a movie. I despise movie moments where normal-functioning people start speaking or quipping to themselves, the only sensible reason being that the writers assume the audience is too dumb to know what the character is thinking. I get it if a character has schizophrenia or another mental illness, or if the words are limited to comedic inner-banter, but not in this case. He’s someone with decent social-competence and no reason to quarrel with himself, other than provide exposition to the audience.

But like Trini, I did find him to be much less annoying when he opened up. They gave him a pretty touching backstory with his own troubles, and they make his motivations really apparent. And just to keep the ball rolling, he’s also the most foreign one of the group, being bilingual, unlike the original black ranger. Now that I think about it, many of the Power Ranger series’ casts don’t feature any overtly foreign characters, apart from maybe of an alien race.

That is precisely why this casting works. Whether or not you find these characters annoying, you can’t doubt that they’re there for a good reason, and you might even warm up to them as the movie progresses. They also help to introduce bouts of political correctness, but they aren’t preachy or condescending about it (which is really the only good way to go about political correctness). They represent people of various colors, mental states and social capabilities, showing (but not telling) that everyone is capable of extraordinary things as long as they have camaraderie.

I can’t say much about Cranston as Zordon. It’s a great homage, seeing as how Cranston has actually been a part of “Power Rangers” since the original television show, where he voiced many of the villains they face. I do love his voice-work here, and while it took some getting used to, I ended up really liking how they presented him. Rather than a chubby, floating head in a tube, they made him manifest into a wall, kind of like one of those pinpression toys. Not to mention they could have easily made him a one-dimensional character. But they went above and beyond to give him his own arc, his own set of feelings and doubts, and a world of lore behind him.

If you thought Alpha 5 was annoying in the television show, then you can rest your worries because Bill Hader fixed him up good. The original’s voice was so high-pitched and screechy; basically in typical 90s fashion (or how the 90s thought Aliens would sound like). This time, he just kind of does the same thing he did as Fear from “Inside Out,” except less screaming. His design had me slightly worried but I got used to it.

Now, Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa has me split down the middle. On the one hand, I do like that at least ONE person in this entire film is trying to recall the absurdity and campiness of the original series. At the same time, I found her to be over-the-top, and incredibly outlandish compared to the rest of the grounded cast. She is guilty of overacting here, which is both a blessing and a curse. The prosthetics on her are amazing though, from both start to finish. She starts out as an outright horror character, which is something I didn’t expect to see even in the gritty version of a children’s property.

If you kept up with me for this long, you know that a recurring theme here is that this film takes several risks that are rather uncharacteristic of a children’s property. Sure, there are hints of silliness to try and match the youthful appeal of the original, but they also throw in more mature bits of humor, about things such as drug tests and jacking off a cow (no joke). Me personally, I welcome these jokes. If anything, this is much more of a film for the adults who grew up watching “Power Rangers,” rather than children. The maturity really shines through in the form of character development and chemistry.

I must say that if you are bringing a child to watch this, keep in mind there will be mild swearing, and several mature jokes.

A common criticism (ad nauseam, pretty much) is that this film is a forced collision between two different movies. Two thirds of the movie is essentially the origin story, which focuses mainly on character development. At the same time, this is the section that appeals to the audience the most, whether you’re fans of the original or not. No one comes into anything titled “Power Rangers” and expects to feel for the characters. But through one particular scene where all the characters develop a kinship, we develop a peculiar attachment to each of them. It was at this moment that I’m glad these people are the ones I’m spending five more movies with (Yup, that’s right).

But when it sticks to the original, it definitely sticks, and that’s where the last third of the movie comes in. If you’re looking for cool looking suits fighting monsters with martial arts and gymnastics, you will get it. If you’re looking for giant robot dinosaurs battling another giant monster, you will get it. And MOST OF ALL, if you want to, at least once, hear the iconic theme song, you will get it. In all it’s pure, epic goodness.

But this is where I have to defend my appreciation for this movie, because many people will come in accusing me of being “blinded by nostalgia.” Despite having these borrowed features from the original show, there is really nothing nostalgic about it. The action here is far better than most of the show’s episodes. There is no silliness to be had apart from what would be silly by realistic standards (as opposed to having two obligatory bully characters).

Even some elements taken from the show are vastly different. Case in point: Rita, who in this film is actually getting shit done by herself rather than sitting up in some moon tower yelling at everyone.

Even the formula of the show is broken up here. Back then, everything was so fast-paced to where every time a new series was brought in, the new team of Power Rangers would unrealistically form intimate familial connection and extraordinary abilities within 20 minutes. This film actually shows you that the Power Rangers had to train for this, both physically and mentally. They didn’t just have these abilities bestowed upon them as a result of the plot rushing it together. You see them work for it, which is something I really appreciated about it.

I had to bring that up because many of the people who didn’t like this film will be quick to see reactions like mine and guilt me for “nostalgia.” But that “tone difference” that they’re faulting this for is the reason why you can’t pin nostalgia on this. All that means is that everything I liked about this film has been on its own merits, maybe (at most) perpetuated by quick little homages to the original.

I suppose before I wrap this up I should mention one more thing. Not really a problem, but more like something I wish happened: I wish they played the theme song more. It was wonderful hearing the iconic theme song, perfectly borrowed from the 1995 film, and at the height of its “Power Ranger-ness.” But I felt that if they really were gonna throw it in there, they should have totally owned it and at least left it playing for a bit longer. If not that, then at least make an instrumental cover to play in the background during the climax, rather than GODDAMN KANYE.

This is a film that has fans and critics alike split down the middle, but it’s pretty clear that everyone who hates it is hating it for the same two reasons: (1) It has a massive tone-clash towards the end, and (2) It caters way too much toward product promotion for Krispy Kreme donuts. I do agree with the latter, make no mistake. But when I hear people complain about this tone-clash, it reminds me of people who complained about the “slow parts” of every other superhero film, whether it’s “Captain America: Civil War,” or “Batman v Superman.” Apart from being a “Power Rangers” movie, this is also an origin story film. And for something as ridiculous as “Power Rangers,” it definitely requires a slow initiation process. To get us going on a six-movie deal, the creators will have to help casual viewers acclimate to the premise, because chances are the naysayers are the ones who skipped out on this franchise as children, and therefore missed their window of opportunity. Ironic how a movie based on a children’s property requires a mature level of patience from the audience.

As I said before, if you came into this wanting to see colored suits, martial arts, explosions and giant robots, you will get it. If you’re dragged into this film but appreciate elements like character development and chemistry, you will get that too. As someone who enjoys both, I actually would go so far as to say I loved this movie. I don’t care if I’m alone on this, but I can comfortably say that I loved the “Power Rangers” movie.

Heart Spice (Derek/Stiles)

@sterekseason requested Stiles/Derek:  we were both lovers over a decade ago and now we meet again to battle it out on this cooking program. our rivalry is strong and just because the camera operator caught us making out in the pantry doesn’t mean i won’t defeat you with the power of truffle oil AU

Heart Spice. Derek/Stiles. Teen. Also on AO3.

When Stiles was twenty-two, he had his heart broken when Derek chose his career over their relationship. A little over ten years later, they meet again on the set of a reality TV cooking competition. Derek wants a second chance, but Stiles isn’t really in a forgiving mood.

“Glad you could make it, Stiles.” Cora nods at him, offering a friendly half-smile that’s the equivalent of a wide, toothy grin from anyone else. It’s a little surprising, and also a little suspicious because Cora usually isn’t smiley.

“I almost didn’t come,” Stiles admits. “Lydia forced me into the car and drove me here before I could, how did she put it, wimp out like a whiny dork.” Stiles rolls his eyes. “For the record, I wasn’t wimping out. I was just having second thoughts because of reasons.”

An unnecessarily deep analysis of the string motif in Kimi no Na wa

I really need to write about this.

Written on the spot. Some research might be nice but aint nobody got time for that. Also I’ve only watched it once so my memory might be dodgy.

Please note this is primarily an analysis for my own personal enjoyment, not a review. Also the views in it are purely my thoughts and opinions

SPOILERS

Kimi no na wa is a friggin amazing movie. Beautiful artwork and solid characters aside my favourite thing about the movie is its brilliant storytelling. And I am going to deconstruct it through the string motif rn because I feel like it.

The plot for Kimi no Na wa is basically the red string of fate, but reimagined and extrapolated in a very creative way. The red string of fate connects two individuals and brings them together romantically but here it is not only geographical boundaries that are transcended, but time itself. String itself takes on multiple meanings within the context of the film. This is summed up best by Mitsuha’s grandmother’s quote, which I cbf looking for rn. Rather than string, though, the emphasis is on the term “musubi"結び. The term we use for knotting thread also means connecting/linking/binding. You can also use it to refer to tying up your hair or fastening something. It also means the end. This (conveniently) flexible term is the basis for the whole story and you see this in almost every aspect of the movie.

The start of the movie is a bunch of events told in a pretty confusing layout. In addition to the main characters swapping bodies, some of the events aren’t even in chronological order. This was evidently intentional, not only for dramatic purposes but I believe also for structural reasons.

The film is set out like a bunch of loose threads starting with seemingly unrelated events: There’s a rare comet appearing in the sky; Mitsuha and Yotsuha make kuchikamizake; Mitsuha and Taki swap bodies…But as the film progresses, just like the weaving of individual strands to make a cord, the pieces start to come together. I think the moment this truly becomes evident is right after Taki drinks the kuchikamizake. This is also the moment Taki and Mitsuha’s worlds truly intertwine.

Mitsuha making kuchikamizake binds a part of her soul to the sake. Mitsuha and Taki swapping bodies are a spiritual connection. This act binds their timelines together. The foundations of human relations, most notably love, is also based on the same concept. The film takes the motif of string and layers it through the connections of multiple events through musubi.

But what I feel truly makes this film brilliant from a storytelling perspective is the creativity employed in extrapolating this motif, especially in regards to the comet and the hairstyles.

The way I see it there are actually only two things that connected Mitsuha and Taki before the body swap. One is the comet. Three years ago Taki witnessed the comet that killed Mitsuha with his own eyes. The other is Mitsuha’s hair cord which is something like a time paradox. Mitsuha went to Tokyo to meet with Taki three years before he knew her. She hands him the cord in her hair and dies the next day but Taki kept her cord wrapped around his wrist for three years.

I’m going to start with the comet which is actually quite a complex symbol. I think everyone will interpret it differently so here’s my personal take.

My initial impression of the comet was something like a shooting star, because it granted Mitsuha’s wish to be reborn as a "handsome Tokyo boy”. Before watching the movie I thought the body swapping would be a miracle only possible while the comet was visible. When Taki and his senpai went to the Nostalgia exhibition at the museum on their date, they saw an aged photo of Itomori. That was my hint that Mitsuha was from the past. I didn’t expect them to be only three years apart though. I thought they would be a literal lifetime apart but then romance would have been near impossible without some bs miracle. Suffice to say, there was no miracle. Instead there was a goddamn tragedy.

The film’s explanation for the body swapping was that it was all to prevent this one disaster. Tbh that sounds a bit too far fetched for me. Instead I like the interpretation of the comet as an extension of the string motif.

When Taki learns the truth he attempts to turn back time by drinking the kuchikamizake. What follows is my favourite scene in the whole movie and it starts with a wall painting of the comet turning into a piece of string. With the visual connection I could then see the metaphorical connection. The comet is another form of binding the two main characters. The comet is closely tied to Mitsuha’s ‘world’ but Taki also witnessed the comet the day she died. Thus their worlds were connected. From a romantic standpoint the comet allowed two individuals to transcend time to be together (red string of fate parallel). But by killing Mitsuha the comet also destroyed the relationship it brought about. I think we can connect this to how the town of Itomori was made from a comet a thousand years ago but another comet ends up destroying the town and killing Mitsuha. Because of this I personally also think the comet represents time. Destroying what is created is basically time itself. Time is musubi. (Additionally, by overcoming the comet i.e. saving the town, the main characters overcome time and can finally be together, because Mitsuha’s lifespan is extended. You can see this as another take on the red string of fate.)

Mitsuha is metaphorically and spiritually saved by a string. I think it is important that in the timeline where she dies she is not wearing the cord in her hair, because she gave it away to Taki who she met in Tokyo the day before and who does not remember her. Her cut hair has multiple meanings. Originally I thought it was a sign of her giving up on Taki because he went on the date with his senpai (Tessie associates haircuts to breakups and I do too, at least in anime). Then I realised she cut it after she went to meet Taki and found out he didnt recognise her. While the “breakup” haircut interpretation still stands, ultimately I think she feels betrayed which is why she gives up the one thing she believes in, her connection to him, represented by the cord. This also becomes linked to her name, which she shouts at him as she leaves the train after throwing him the cord. If I were to continue with the red string anecdote, this is where the string is cut, fate abandons the couple and Mitsuha dies.

But it is the same string that saves her. Because Taki kept it for three years and it is how he remembers her even if he doesnt know her name. Once he learns she dies everything from her diary entries on his phone to her name in his memories disappears. But the cord doesn’t. And he passes this cord to short hair Mitsuha when they finally meet at twilight.

I’m going to digress for a bit to explain why I find this scene so important. The only time Mitsuha does not have the cord in her hair is when she is sleeping, performing the ceremony, the first time she swaps bodies with Taki, and of course right before she dies. The cord is a very obvious symbol of musubi. I also think the fact it changes form throughout the film is important. At the start when Mitsuha wears it she always puts her hair in a complicated bun with the cord in it. When she swaps bodies with Taki who cant make complicated hairstyles he changes the form of the cord by wearing it in a ponytail (though initially he did not wear it at all and made Mitsuha looked “possessed”). The hairstyle was an instant way to tell who was in Mitsuha’s body, and also became a representation of their relationship.

The cord starts to change forms drastically when the pair’s relationship takes a nosedive the day before Mitsuha dies. She takes it out of her hair and the cord changes from a hairtie to a wristband/bracelet. The form of “musubi” changes, from “doing up one’s hair” to a spiritual connection between the two. This is one way Mitsuha manages to live on, because just like the kuchikamizake, the cord is a part of her soul now.

Taki returns Mizuha’s cord when they finally meet. She has cut her hair but wears the cord as a hair decoration anyway. The red string is restored and its changed form represents a new step in their relationship. Throughout the film Taki and Mitsuha have had to compromise on each others’ lifestyles. Mitsuha’s new appearance seems to be a culmination of this: the boyish haircut coupled with the hair cord. She also gains Taki’s courage, seen when she confronts her father in a very similar way Taki did in her body previously. (Taki also experiences a similar change but it is not as pronounced. As far as I know he just got “kinder”.) This is musubi because their two souls have actually intertwined. From a romance perspective, I guess this is how couples change each other for the better.

And what happens after is classic red string of fate. Interestingly Mitsuha’s final hairstyle is a half ponytail. Analysing any farther would actually be overkill though so I’m just going to leave it as a design choice.

I don’t think I’ve conveyed even one tenth of what I actually wanted to say about the film. It’s so rich in symbolism just analysing it in my head was a ton of fun. Best film I’ve ever watched in my life. Definitely want to watch it again.

hypnictwitch  asked:

What was your vampire diaries otp?

*16-year-old me comes bursting into the clearing*

HOLD UP DUDES, BUCKLE UP BECAUSE I NEED TO INTRODUCE YOU TO THE OTP THAT STILL HOLDS A PORTION OF MY HEART, SIX YEARS ON FROM ME THROWING MY HANDS INTO THE AIR AND SAYING ‘FUCK THIS SHIT I AM O-U-T’.

Iiiiiiiit’s…

These fuckers!

Oh, I was happy and dandy, completely fine watching The Vampire Diaries as a sort of guilty pleasure. It wasn’t the best show around, I didn’t really follow the storylines, found Stefan a bit boring, Elena dull, Damon your average ‘vampire bad boy’, but I really stayed watching it for the minor characters, like Bonnie, Jeremy, Matt, Tyler and Caroline because I felt like they were really kind of the flesh of the show. Their dynamics were the meat of it, and that’s what kept me tuning in.

Then Caroline Forbes got turned into a vampire. This bright, peppy character suddenly had a power she never expected to have. A strength I never expected the stereotypical cheerleader in this sort of show to have. It changed everything.

The Vampire Diaries basically became the Caroline Forbes Show, for me. I wanted more of this sunshine with this unlimited life and power.

And then Klaus Mikaelson rolled up. Your standard vampire villain, with a tragic backstory of shitty dad being shitty, and a bloodthirsty need to take over the world via the conversion of numerous mortals into vampire/werewolf hybrids.

So, those are the two pieces on the chessboard. The white queen, Caroline Forbes, socialite vampire grappling with the organisation of prom and her own immortality. The black king, Klaus Mikaelson, British-accented vampire villain with a penchant for witty one-liners and slowly making his way up the list of favourite characters. Destined, pretty much, never to meet until the end of the game.

Then the show kicked things up a notch, some hybrid stuff happened in badly lit scenes, and Caroline ended up, on her birthday, slowly dying in her bed from a bite given to her by her boyfriend. Klaus shows up. Laying out the red carpet of faux concern: “oh my gosh Caroline got bit by Tyler, a hybrid??? Sired to me??? What an amazing coincidence!!! Now invite me in, there’s a good girl, toodle pip”. Obviously part of some bigger plan that’ll come into play. Sherriff lets him in.

So here’s the black king standing in the doorway of the white queen’s bedroom. There lies the white queen pale and sickly, dying, with ironic ‘Happy Birthday!’ cards arranged artfully on a bedside table. The king is in a position of power; this is acknowledged as soon as he walks in the door, as it always tends to be when Klaus Mikaelson walks into a room but hey, let’s focus here.

Some standard 'you’re the Big Bad, I’m the friend of the Holy Good why the fuck are you here’ dialogue is exchanged. Klaus Mikaelson, the sage old king, mentions that he likes birthdays; that Caroline, the newly appointed queen, as a vampire, is duty-bound to celebrate the now non-existent commitment she has to human conventions.

“You’re free,” the old king breathes.

“No…” replies the new queen. She flicks her eyes up and meets the old king with a stare as deep as his. “I’m dying.”

A-ha! The playing field is equal. The moves have shrunk. They shrink further still as the king admits he still holds the ace – her life. He could indeed, let her die. At this moment, I expected some corny claptrap about how her death wouldn’t affect the grand scheme of things, how she was never to be a part of his plan—

“I thought about it myself.” Hello? What’s going on here? “Once or twice.”

The old king leans closer to the new queen, young and green in her reign, and tells her that there is a whole world out there, and suddenly, immortality pales in comparison to the promises of music, and art, “genuine beauty”. Immortality ain’t beautiful. The world is.

She can have it all, “a thousand more birthdays”. If the new queen just asks. She can reign everywhere, anywhere she wishes for as long as she wants. Human conventions be damned.

Textually, it’s obviously a power play. Klaus is gaining an alliance from Sherriff Forbes, and a debt from Caroline Forbes, which he will no doubt call on. Caroline surrenders, admits that she doesn’t want to die after all.

But what’s she saying yes to? She’s saying yes to all those birthdays, the art, the music, the promise of genuine beauty.

So drink up, whispers the king. The queen drinks, she sleeps, and she wakes to find a bracelet of astonishing, genuine, beauty contained in a black velvet box with a neat white bow and a scrawled note. “From Klaus”.

Then, nine episodes later, at a 1920s themed dance, the old king makes his intentions very clear to the new queen. It’s clear she knows the debt that hangs over her head, the connection that haunts Tyler, so she acquiesces to his request for one dance. “I don’t bite,” he says silkily. There’s the old 'Big Bad/loyal to Holy Good friend’ dialogue exchange, as before. Then, a reiteration of his promise of the whole world, worded differently, but still there. The old king speaks of waiting for 100 years for her to accept his offer, his promises, as if to do so is easier than breathing. Oh, the new queen side-eyes him, but the pieces shift, the game changes and she’s looking at him in a whole new way. He looks at her with a depth not found in the eyes of a small town boy. She breaks it with a scoff, and there’s your standard 'Big Bad is pissed off’ dialogue from Klaus before he storms off. And, quite crucially, she looks back.

Anyone who has watched any period drama ever knows the importance of looking back.

And just one single episode later, Caroline Forbes is running down a corridor, your standard horror film shot. She is alone, scared, frightened. She is caught by Klaus Mikaelson, her saviour not ten episodes ago, who has twice offered her the world and all its beauty. Not its glories, not its triumphs. Its beauty.

He promises to save her friend and brushes his fingers over her hair as if it’s already second nature to him to treat her this kindly, this intimately. (Do not get me started on how he cradles her when she drinks his blood, do not.) He tells her, fiercely, to get home and stay safe.

“Do you understand me?” barks he.

“Thank you,” she says. She looks at him like she still cannot work him out, and is afraid because of it. But the thanks is as easy as breathing.

For reasons that are known as ‘I cannot put up with this shit writing for a moment longer’, I give up on the show come season 3 finale. I watch clips of their scenes on YouTube, scrabble for any desperate hope that the potential I saw and shipped and loved is still there. It falls down, down the drain and I personally like to pretend anything past season 3 doesn’t exist.

So now, here I am. 22 years old with 16 years old me screeching the dying screech of a frustrated fangirl whenever she sees a gifset of Klaus Mikaelson and Caroline Forbes together on her Tumblr dashboard because you had a queen with power yet to be unlocked and a king willing to give her that power in exchange for being allowed to worship her as he always wanted to, and because of some shit to do with hybrids, it all went tits up.

But those fuckers called Klaus Mikaelson and Caroline Forbes? They have a portion of my heart (the right ventricle, to be specific) that continues to beat for the queen and king that almost ruled together. #foreverbitter

anonymous asked:

what was your unbiased opinion on the atop the fourth wall movie?

Well that’s a tough question, I can’t really give a totally unbiased opinion because I’ve been a fan of @atopfourthwall for several years, just the fact this passion project of his exists makes it awesome to me.

I definitely thought that for what it was, it was absolutely spectacular. I was never a fan of the tgwtg crossover movies but I couldn’t peg why, until I saw the atop the fourth wall movie. The movie had a point and actual character development and meaningful moments while not feeling overcrowded or like anybody didn’t belong ( my personal feelings about Brad Jones withstanding )

For an independent director working on a limited budget Lewis accomplished something pretty stellar, a feature length film taking place a majority in space and using the “continuity” created by others on the website as a launching point to further his own story, interweaving the continuity of everything together really well.

It’s not perfect, but I feel weird talking about its flaws given its independent status but it might be fun given a lot of story deconstruction I’ve learned from Lewis over the years.

My only huge complaints would be the inclusion of Mechakara and Linkaras. .. weird fluctuations in character.

For anyone who hasn’t seen at4w Mechakara is an alternate universe version of Linkaras robot Pollo ( I JUST NOW GOT POLLO IS NAMED AFTER THE SPANISH WORD FOR CHICKEN OH MY GOD ) that stole the skin of his linkara and became a recurring villain for our dimensions linkara ( yes this series of videos of a guy reviewing comics requires a fucking plot debriefing I love it )

In my personal opinion Mechakara kind of out stayed his welcome? I know that may sound ungrateful or unappreciative, and really I’m not trying to, I just personally felt vice and Mechakara both stuck around a bit more than they needed to ( vice especially though he’s the frieza of the series )

His inclusion as the antagonist of the movie feels kinda like they got halfway through the writing process before going “SHIT! This can’t just be a character piece we kinda need a bad guy.” Cause for 80% of the film the primary conflict is Linkara and the depressive state he’s going through. ( Lewis has him refer to it kinda as an early midlife crisis but that is straight up a depressive episode )

Linkara is questioning his life, and how he kinda is just living from battle to battle and while he’s not suicidal he’s … ready for the hit that ends his life. It’s a pretty heavy subject and one that from a realistic point of view is great to address given Linkara starts the series as just a typical dude, and has had to deal with some horrifyingly traumatic stuff. It would make sense for the character to have ptsd out the ass even if Lewis doesn’t feel comfortable writing characters that suffer from mental problems he doesn’t suffer from personally ( the man is very comfortable in his lane lmao )

It actually reminded me a lot of the end of the three kings arc of yu yu hakusho, where Yusuke is questioning why he fights and why he’s trying to get stronger. Which is why I was kinda dissapointed how quickly he resolved his personal feelings.

Admittedly it was solved quickly in yu yu hakusho as well, but yusuke had an easy quick answer his gf keiko.

Now don’t miss understand, I’m not decrying the choice I completely understand time constraints and all that, I was just kind of dissapointed that he figured out his reason for continuing was the comics ( we knew that would be the answer ) simply by talking to Allens dead body.

I’ll excuse it though, because he was also under duress and pretty sure he was gonna die and that can kick your brain into high gear and help you reach conclusions a non panicked brain wouldn’t.

The only other complaint with his character was - Linkara was … well he was kind of a cock to allen for no discernable reason. Allen, his contact with the government, was never shown to have much interaction with Linkara throughout the series.

So, the movie actually was a chance to push their relationship to a better place and develop Allan as a character. However more time is spent on re affirming Linkaras relationship with MarzGurl which is perfectly fine - she was amazing in the film, it’s just that it was a bond we already knew about ( and this is very much a film for his fans and is in no way a jumping on point )

Having Linkara realizing he was a dick to allen after he dies just …mmm felt kind of lazy? It would have been nice to see Linkara realize he was being needlessly paranoid about allen through some action on Allens part. ( hell Allens death is pretty much an accident )

Such as possibly finding out Allen has turned down promotions to stay on Linkaras case, or that Allen actually had to sacrifice something great and call in a lot of favors to get the snipers off of Linkara, basically show how Allen stretches himself thin to protect Linkara and for Linkara to then realize he has no fight with Allen and can trust him.

And explaining all that character conflict you probably ready forgot there was a robot bad guy huh? The final confrontation with Mechakara is absolutely fucking awesome awed despite the fact I giggled when Linkara said fuck, I absolutely loved it none the less.

But the movie is ultimately very fucking character focused to the point where Mechakara almost feels like an afterthought like “oops we need a bad guy this time.” to the point where, despite being kinda tired of him I hope that wasn’t the final time we see him cause that would kind of suck as a send off for a long time villain.

However despite that I loved the movie so much, and lewis is my writing IDOL and I absolutely adore anything he puts his brain into. Any criticism is done with full love and admiration for the guy.

Out Of Nothing At All - Fourteen

You’d lain in bed together for a while longer before deciding to move. Upon checking your phone you saw that Hotch had text you, telling you both not to bother coming in today. You didn’t have a case so it was just going to be another paperwork day.

You called him anyway, updating him on your situation and asking him about the possibility of being excused from field duty and staying behind at HQ until you officially went on maternity leave.

With you being pregnant, technically the Bureau had to do anything they could to assist with the pregnancy in case anything were to go wrong which they could be held liable for. You both knew this and Hotch agreed with your request telling you he’d been sourcing a replacement anyway, another female from Andy Swan’s unit and that he’d speak with them about her taking over sooner than planned. You thanked him profusely, another load taken off your mind.

With the day ahead of you now free, you and Spencer decided to start working on the spare bedroom. You didn’t particularly want to spend tonight alone either and although last night had been fine, it wasn’t a good idea for you to get too comfortable sharing a bed. You knew that you would eventually have to spend the night alone, but you prayed that any cases that came up in the next few weeks would either be local, or that Reid could work from HQ too. You’d mentioned this to Hotch as well who had said it would need to be assessed on a case by case basis, but if you and Spencer were prepared to foot the cost of a commercial flight if Reid was needed in the field, then something could be worked out. Spencer wasn’t normally involved in many of the take downs anyway, so could work just as well via video link from the office.

You showed Reid the spare rooms, the smaller one directly next to yours would of course be the peanuts and the larger guest room with its own en-suite could become Spencer’s.

Reid drove JJ’s car back first thing, collecting his own from her house and picking up a few more belongings from his apartment before heading to the local home depot for storage boxes. The guest room had kinda become your dumping ground for your Gramp’s memorabilia along with old crap that you never used but didn’t have the energy to take to the tip. If you could box up your grandfather’s stuff, then you could shift some of the crap into the smaller room for now so that Reid would have somewhere to sleep. It was a huge job though, one that you regretted starting almost immediately.

It didn’t help that Reid was so interested in the stuff you had of your grandfather’s, like old scripts and film cells and stuff, insisting on asking you about everything.

Three hours had passed and you were exhausted. You slumped on the floor with a bottle of water, leaning against the bed next to Spencer who was quickly thumbing through yet another script he’d found, complete with all of your Gramp’s notes.

“Which one’s that?” you asked him.

“Jackal,” he replied, not even looking up, his finger running quickly down each page. It always amazed you watching him devour the written word so quickly.

“Ahhh. That’s my favourite.” It had been a sleeper hit at the box office but had won a fuck ton of awards including an Academy Award for best original screenplay.

“It’s mine too actually.” Still not looking up.

“Hey Spencer….. You know the little girl at the start.”

“The one who escapes from the Jackal?”

“Yep….. That’s yours truly.”

And now you had his attention. “Really? Oh my god thats awesome! You must have been what? Eight?”

You nodded and explained how you’d begged your Gramp’s to take you to work with him again. You loved going with him, even though he couldn’t always spend an awful lot of time with you when he was directing. He’d set you up in your own mini directors chair in front of one of the monitors and you’d just sit mesmerised. Most kids would have found the constant repetition of the same takes being filmed over and over again boring, but you’d loved it.

On this particular day, the production had run into issues. The actress playing the younger version of the protagonist in the opening scene had been pulled from the movie at the last minute, her parents suddenly finding issue with the content. The producers had seen you sitting there, quietly observing the panic, and made the suggestion to your Grandfather. He’d been reluctant to begin with but had approached you and asked whether you thought you could do this. You could and you did, so excited to be involved. You hadn’t been allowed to actually watch the full movie until years later, due to its rating and it had been so strange seeing yourself on screen.

“So why didn’t you continue with it then?” Spencer asked you.

“Erm…. Well, as much as I enjoyed it, I remember seeing the actress on the set. And for a nine year old, she was so spoiled and haughty. Her parents and assistants ran around catering to her every need and she reminded me so much of my older sisters, thinking they were everything but actually being no more important than me. I just didn’t want to become that. I’d have hated to become from sisters or my mom.”

“Y/N, why….. Why don’t you get on with your family? You never really talk about them much except to say bad things.”

“Erm…. ”

“I’m sorry… That’s too personal. Forget it.”

“No its fine… You should probably know. I’ll guess you’ll eventually meet them anyway. So, I’m quite a lot younger than my sisters. There’s a 10 year age gap between me and the one nearest to me in age. I’ve just always……been different to them. My Mom spend a large amount of her childhood in fancy boarding schools due to my Grandfather’s job. He told me once that he regretted it so much because it turned her into a ‘spoiled little madam with ideas above her station.’ And because my Grandparent’s weren’t used to having the amount of money they were suddenly making, she pretty much got anything she wanted.”

You took a breath before continuing.

“My Mom married rich, I strongly suspect she didn’t love my father. And she did the same with my sisters, using money from her trust find and our Dad to send my sisters to the same school she went to. My Dad was away on business a lot so he didn’t really have a say in what went on. He died just after I was born by the way… I never knew him. By the time I was born, my Grandpa was fed up with seeing her turning his grandchildren into little princesses and put his foot down with me. He told her that I had to go to a normal public school and have a normal childhood or else he’d cut her and my sisters off and they wouldn’t get their trust funds. My mom remarried… For money again, but couldn’t bear to lose her dad’s money so abided by his wishes, although she employed nannies to actually look after me. And because Gramp’s was older and making less movies, he started spending time with me, that he hadn’t with my siblings. It’s all terribly boring but basically they just all have a sense of entitlement which my Grandpa blamed himself for and I don’t feel any sense of kin to them. We’re all totally different in personality. Plus my Mom’s an evil bitch. It’s down to her that I don’t want kids.”

“How come?”

“Because she’s repeatedly told me that I wouldn’t be a good mother and I’m terrified she’s right.“

Wow…. Honesty for once. Most of the time you just told people that it didn’t fit your lifestyle. But somehow…. You felt you owed it to him to be honest.

“Your own mother told you that you wouldn’t be a good mother? What the fuck?”

“And my sisters….. To be fair. One of them had a point. I did nearly kill her kid.”

He coughed, “What?”

Fuck it, in for a penny, in for a pound. You’d never told anyone this.

“When I was thirteen we had a family party. My sisters are a lot older than me like I’ve already said, so I’ve got a fair few nieces and nephews. So the adults were all getting drunk and I was left in charge of the kids, supervising them around the pool.” You took a deep breath before continuing. “I looked away for two minutes, texting this boy that I liked and when I looked up, my five year old nephew had fallen in. And he couldn’t swim.”

You could feel the panic you’d felt all those years ago settling back in.

“I couldn’t move, I was frozen to the spot. All I could do was scream until the adults came running. They pulled him out but he’d stopped breathing.”

Spencer reached his hand out placing it on your arm, the motion calming you without you even realising. “They performed CPR on him and thankfully, he started breathing again. And he’s fine…. No ill effects. He probably doesn’t even remember it. But I do. And so do….. they. My Mom asked me what had been so important that I hadn’t been paying attention and when I told her I was on my phone, she slapped me so hard that she split my lip and marked my face. She called me a selfish little bitch and asked me how I’d feel if my nephew had died because I was too busy thinking about myself. And she’s right….. I’m too selfish to think of other people. It’s always all about me. My sister, his Mom, said she’d never leave me alone with him again and that she hoped I’d never get pregnant because ‘god help the poor child that has Y/N for a Mother.’ And whenever a new baby was introduced into the family, they’d laugh and joke and say that I wasn’t to be allowed near them because I’d drop them or something. So yeah…… That’s kinda why I don’t want kids. Because I can’t be trusted to look after someone else’s child let alone my own.”

Spencer was staring at you, his jaw slack, “What did you your Grandpa say?”

“He didn’t. He was away, and I never told him. I couldn’t tell him I nearly killed his great grandchild.”

It felt so strange saying all of this now, after all these years.

“Y/N, you were thirteen. It wasn’t your fault.”

“Yes it was. I should have been watching.”

“You were thirteen. The parents should have been watching, not you. They weren’t your responsibility.”

“It WAS my responsibility though. It was, I shouldn’t have been so selfish. But that’s me. Selfish little Y/N. You’ve said it yourself Spencer.”

“Y/N stop. Your family were out of line, in so many ways by the sounds of it. You know what it sounds like to me? Jealousy and resentment because of the special treatment you got from your Grandfather. They wanted to make you feel bad and they’ve used something that was NOT your fault to do that. It was a mistake, an accident. But it wasn’t your fault. And it doesn’t mean you won’t be a good mother.” His voice was quiet and soothing.

“But I won’t be Spencer, I won’t be. How can I be a good Mom when I wanted to get rid of her….. When I tried to get rid of her.” Your voice cracking now and tears threatening to spill.

“Y/N…. You didn’t though did you. Something stopped you. And you know what? Plenty of women who’ve had a termination go on to have other children and be great mom’s. Thinking of terminating or actually terminating a pregnancy doesn’t mean that someone is a bad mother, it just means that maybe that person wasn’t ready. Maybe circumstances meant that it just wasn’t the right time.” He inched closer on the floor until your shoulders were touching and he moved his arm so it was around your shoulders, pulling you into a hug.

“I’m truly sorry for the things I said yesterday. Now I know, I realise how much I must have added to these feelings. But what happened doesn’t mean anything. I know you’re going to be great at this. Because you’re strong, and independent. You’re opinionated. And how can you say you’re selfish when you do what you do for a living? You risk your life on a daily basis for other people. Hell you’ve even saved mine a few times. You’ll be great at this.”

Tears were freely streaming down your face down…..Christ, you couldn’t wait for these extra hormones to do one. You weren’t normally a crier.

“You think so?” Maybe if he genuinely thought this then maybe it was true.

“I know so.”

“Thanks Spencer,” you whispered, wiping your tears away.

“Nothing to thank me for…… But you do realise you have to tell your family about this. And then show them how good a mom you actually are.”

Now that was a point. This was kind of your opportunity to proof them wrong. And fuck, you loved proving people wrong.

“Will you come with me?”

He looked surprised and taken aback by your question and you were surprised too. But you actually did want him there.

“Of course. Anything you need, I’ll do.”

And you knew that he was telling the truth.

Power Rangers 2017 review

The past few years have sucked for reboots. There was Fantastic Four, the absolute worst iteration of the superheroes ever and a nadir for the superhero film genre; there was Ghostbusters, the excessively mediocre, casually sexist, and painfully unfunny all-female shitfest no one wanted; there are all the live-action adaptations of cartoons like The Smurfs, which lack all the soul of the original show; and don’t even get me started on horror reboots. Hell, the years to come don’t look much better, what with the cringe-inducingly bad Universal Horrorverse. So when I saw they were doing a reboot of Power Rangers, a series I’ve never been a fan of but know a little about, and it looked like it was going to be yet another tone-deaf, overly gritty, miserable reboot, I was not impressed and predicted that, like so many reboots before it, it was going to suck. HARD.

I was wrong.

Power Rangers is the reboot I’ve been waiting for, a movie that fills me with a sense of fun, excitement, and even interest. This actually made me want to go and watch Power Rangers, something absolutely nothing before this film has ever made me want to do. Like yes, it’s not a perfect film, but for what it is, it does a lot right in my eyes. Hell, it actually does shit a lot better than its contemporaries; it handles elements reboots like Ghostbusters and superhero films like Suicide Squad and Fant4stic handled really poorly. I’ll explain what I mean in just a moment, but first, the story:

Jason the high school football star lands himself in detention after running afoul of the law; there, he meets an autistic boy named Billy as well as a pretty young lady named Kimberly. A series of eevnts leads them to a nearby mine, where they’re joined by Zack and Trini. They discover some funky coins and soon discover they have superpowers. Returning to the mine they discover an ancient alien spaceship, where the little robot Alpha 5 and the cybernetic talking head Zordon fill them in on their destiny: they are the Power Rangers, guardians of the universe, and they must stop the evil Rita Repulsa from destroying the Earth. Rita is searching for a crystal that will give her a shitton of power, and is out trying to reform her mighty ally Goldar; can the Rangers learn to work as a team via the power of friendship in time, or will Rita make her monster grow powerful enough to wipe them out?

LIW Review: Lovely Little Losers

Much as I love NMTD as my favorite adaptation of my favorite Shakespeare play, LBD for introducing me to the genre and the genre to the world, and so many other literary-inspired webseries for so many reasons, Lovely Little Losers will always be my favorite.

The premise is simple: Benedick, Balthazar, and Pedro (now going by Peter) from Nothing Much To Do are going to university in Wellington and living in a flat together with the lovely and awkward Freddie Kingston. Freddie and Ben decide to impose some order on the flat with a set of absurd flat rules that everyone has to follow, including a curfew, vegetarianism (and vegan Fridays), Ben getting to film everything, imposed flat bonding in the form of challenges, and the worst rule of all, no romantic relationships, aka no shenanigans.

The series is loosely based on Shakespeare’s Love’s Labour’s Lost, but in reality there are only about five episodes that have anything to do with the plot of the original play. Apart from those moments, the inspiration mostly just creates the premise and the names of certain characters.

Plot overview:

Freddie, Benedick, Peter, and Balthazar sign a bunch of ridiculous flat rules that at first seem like a good idea and quickly spiral out of control. Then Beatrice and Meg decide to road trip to Wellington, where, due to The Rules, they end of sleeping in a tent in the back garden along with Kit, another friend of the flat. It’s hard to say more about the actual plot without spoilers, since it’s barely revealed what’s been going on until almost the end (starting around “SARDINES” and going until “FEATHERS”), so I’ll move on to my other categories.

Format:

All actual episodes are posted on the Lovely Little Losers YouTube channel, with Ben as the main (unreliable) narrator, Meg as secondary (mostly reliable) narrator, and other characters (such as Beatrice and Peter) occasionally filming/uploading videos as well. Fifteen videos are devoted to “Balth in a Bath,” which was all filmed on the same day in February but is uploaded sporadically throughout the year. There are also between fourteen and seventeen song videos, depending on how you define “song” (more on that later). There are also a few extras on other YouTube channels that, while not technically part of the story, help illuminate things considerably (the channel I’m referring to here is Zoos Job, though there are also two videos on the Nothing Much To Do channel).

How to watch LoLiLo:

This is ordinarily not one of my categories, but in this case it is very necessary. You MUST read the video descriptions, and also check the comments section, to have ANY idea what’s really going on here, and even then most of it’s going to be subtext. You can watch the series either in the order it was intended to be watched in or in chronological order (which ruins a little of the mystery but averts a Zoos Job marathon later on. Links to both playlists are below). Keep in mind that Benedick is the narrator of nearly the whole thing, and that he is editing the content to fit his own agenda – the one @beatriceeagle calls “Project Birdy-Fingers.” This means that two-thirds of the love stories in LoLiLo are almost entirely hidden from the viewers and once again need to be read through subtext.

Realism:

Off the charts dedicated. This series has a much more experimental style than NMTD – several episodes use more than one camera angle, nearly every episodes has multiple characters in it, and is frequently filmed over multiple days and edited into non-chronological order – but there is still always a reason for the camera to be there and always a reason, in-universe, for it to have been edited and uploaded the way it was. This dedication to realism made things that much more difficult for The Candle Wasters, but it also adds hugely to the value of the series.

Music:

As I mentioned above, many, many episodes of LLL are actually songs. The series has been referred to by many people as a “secret musical” because of this. 11 songs are almost entirely character development. “A Merry Note” was written by Shakespeare and was mostly The Candle Wasters being clever and making us think our ship had sailed. “Heaven in Her Lips” is a cute love song. “Stay” is secretly plot, though the lyrics also assist in understanding “one foot on sea one on shore one in the boiling hot lava,” which is the real first episode of LoLiLo. Then we get to the question of whether certain other videos are songs. “Berry Nice,” while a Balth in a Bath episode, is clearly a song. But what about “Beatrice and Ballads,” which is essentially the reprise of “Beatrice, You’re Vivacious”? What about “A Sonnet,” which, although not a song, is the inverse of “An Ode” and should therefore be included for the sake of symmetry? Of course, the numbers don’t matter, because the songs are amazing. The songs themselves were mainly written by Reuben Hudson, Elsie Bollinger, and Maude Morris, with some help from other writers, and are performed mostly by Reuben Hudson and Mouce Young, with help from most of the rest of the cast.

Representation/diversity:

Very strong. Several characters are not white at all (Kit and Jaquie), and race just generally is a non-issue. LGBT representation is also great, especially for a pre-2016 webseries: Peter is now openly bisexual, Balthazar actually uses the word “gay” to describe himself, Paige and Chelsey are a lesbian couple who have basically the only functional relationship in the whole series, and the sexuality of several other characters (Kit, Freddie, Costa, Vegan Fred), is never defined, though I headcanon them all as bi. Though there are no disabled characters, there are extensive explorations of mental health issues, though as usual for The Candle Wasters, this is largely in subtext. Also, people actually talk about money in this and have realistic issues with money, which is a nice change from every other webseries I’ve seen.

Film quality:

Fantabulous, especially since The Candle Wasters had an actual budget for this series.  As mentioned before, there are even episodes shot with multiple cameras THAT ACTUALLY WORK. Yay for realism and quality combined is all I can say.

My three favorite things about Lovely Little Losers:

1) My two favorite episodes, “RUSSIANFUDGE” and “ACCOSTED”

2) Balth in a Bath, because Balth in a Bath is perfect and innocent and lovely and actually includes a lot of exposition and character/relationship development that doesn’t exist anywhere else.

3) The fact that I keep getting more out of it on every rewatch – and I have now seen this thing in full ten times, though it’s been more like twenty for some episodes (”TEA,” “RUSSIANFUDGE”), and I have no idea how many times I’ve watched/listened to some of the songs.

Difficult things about Lovely Little Losers:

On first viewing it can be almost impossible to understand what’s going on almost all the time, and it can be easy to skip things because the series seems largely plotless. Do not give up hope! There is indeed a plot, but you have to hunt for it. If you finish the series and still feel confused or dissatisfied, I recommend a rewatch and @beatriceeagle and @marydebenham ‘s LLL rewatch metas, which have been invaluable for many the confused/dissatisfied viewer. It can also be frustrating that certain things (like apologies) are never said on camera, but we can blame realism for that.

All I can say is, despite its surface flaws, LoLiLo is not only my favorite webseries but also only of my favorite pieces of literature of all time. There’s so much here, in character, in content, and in theme, and I could talk about it for ages more than I already have. Although on first viewing I had no idea what to make of it, I now give LLL a solid and glowing 5/5 stars.

Transcript of the new Colin Morgan Interview

Colin Morgan is a man of many talents. Enigmatic performer. Charming Ulsterman. Method actor. Qualities that have underpinned his ability to reinvent himself at every turn. Since bursting onto the scene over a decade ago, Colin has transported us back to the Middle Ages, explored the meaning of life as a twenty-first century android, and broken a few hearts as a troubled Victorian shrink. Gee Wong talks to the rising star about the intensity of the roles he plays, his way with accents and why he’s giving social media the cold shoulder.

Arranging an interview with Colin Morgan is a lesson in timing. Given that his brisk schedule and unforeseen events have thwarted our previously arranged powwows, it’s a relief when the phone eventually whirrs into life. He introduces himself in his deep loquacious Ulster drawl and all is forgiven. “I’m glad we’ve finally got the chance to talk, there’s been a lot of back and forth, hope everything is alright?” he says. The raw accent, while expected, is captivating to hear for the first time—largely because he’s a master at disguising those native vowels.

From the West End stage to television to the silver screen, the vocal gymnastics have been key to defining this award-winning actor’s march toward stardom. In fact, they often go hand in hand with the intense and angst-heavy roles he clearly relishes. “I couldn’t write down any specific reasons why I go for a part because it really is instinctive. It’s more of a feeling than a reason, you know what I mean?” he explains. “It’s like when you meet someone and you just click, but you don’t really know why, but you just do. It’s a bit like that. I’m meeting a character when I read it on the page and if it does something to me, it literally calls.” His confidence in an ability to single out roles is striking and the approach clearly works for him. “It has to be the only way. The scriptwriter, director and producer—theyre all on board because they’re passionate about a project and you’ve got to come in and respect there’s been a lot of hard work gone into the stage where they’re casting—these things can go on for years!” Auditions must be pretty intense then? “Yeah, I can feel it sometimes in auditions—if you can’t come in and deliver that level of what’s come before then you shouldn’t be there. You’ve got to love it.”

For his breakout performance—as the eponymous young wizard in the BBC’s fantasy drama Merlin—Colin owned an English accent so convincingly that his burgeoning fan base couldn’t quite believe he was from County Armagh. What’s his secret to cracking an accent? The answer is, of course, a lot of talent, practice and immersing himself in the role. “When I’m working on a character the voice comes first, or initially the way they move, it all influences each other,” he says. It’s a habit that’s seen him in good stead over the years. “Just like a runner training for a marathon, you need to do your training, listen to a lot of people, the way they talk and move, and imitate a lot because you’re working in the business of mimicry,” he admits. “It’s a case of muscle memory for me. I love accents, I love doing them, as many as I can really.”

He’s recently been back on the box—fine-tuning his Received Pronunciation English—in the supernatural period drama The Living and the Dead. It’s a darkly written role about grief and holding onto the past, with no shortage of terrifying apparitions to hammer home the message. What was it like returning to the fantasy genre after a few years away? “It’s weird because fantasy implies a story is lifted from reality. I don’t feel like I get affected by the genre because the character is just living their story,” he says. “For me, it’s all about the script and reaching into the character that I can inhabit.” The actor gave his all to the role, including staying in accent throughout filming. “I didn’t plan on it at all on the first day, but after we did our first scene it just stayed with me for the whole shoot. You’re in costume and even on your lunch break you’re still dressed as the character, you’ve still got the long hair and the beard,” he explains, laughing. “You still feel it—the person and the voice are just part of it.” So, in reality, not as odd as it sounds. “It’s just so much easier especially when you have a Northern Irish accent. To try and go from that to an English accent from 1894—they’re miles apart!”

Talking of his appearance, his fans set Twitter alight after the first episode. The reason? A sit-up-in-your-chair topless scene that let slip an ‘all growed up’ physique and, inevitably, a new-found pin-up status for the actor. It’s a far cry from his fresh-faced debut in Merlin at the tender age of 22. Nevertheless, the comments went right over his head—he shuns social media. “It’s just not me really. You have to want to do it,” he states without hesitation. “It’s an amazing medium for getting the word out for shows, promotion and for staying in contact, but there are a lot of negative sides as well.” Can he point out a few of the downsides? “When the words you want to say don’t have to be said face to face people tend to say a lot of stuff—that’s not something I think is healthy for an actor to be an open party to,” he adds. I get the impression he’s been burnt from personal experience and now views his privacy as sacrosanct. When pressed further, he confesses to a distaste for so-called ‘insta-stardom’ and all the baggage that comes with it. “The good stuff can make you arrogant, the bad stuff can stay with you forever,” he declares.

That said, don’t call him a technophobe. Although he doesn’t watch much television these days, he’s all for the BBC’s decision to simultaneously broadcast and stream his latest show. “It’s brilliant. It’s absolutely in keeping with how people are watching nowadays. When I do watch television, it’s on catch-up, Netflix and Amazon.” He does also venture online to shop and email. He has googled himself once—purely out of curiosity—which was enough to put him off for life. So, how does he receive feedback on his performances? “I never hear about it unless it’s mentioned to me. Fans show their support in many different ways. A lot of them write fan letters, which I think is much more in line with how I’m likely to respond.”

A low-fi solution indeed, but totally in keeping with Colin’s old-school, yet easygoing style. Not much fazes him: was turning 30 a big deal last year? “No, not really, weirdly. I can appreciate it’s one of those milestones in your life,” he states matter-of-factly before pausing and reflecting on intriguing new possibilities. “At the minute, I think I’m still on that younger side of the age bracket, but I’m looking forward to being an ageing actor and getting to play all those great Shakespearean roles as well.”

A busy year it certainly was. Having played the lead in the mystery drama Waiting for You, he returned for the second season of the UK sci-fi drama Humans. Apparently, there was tremendous pressure to live up to the first season, which was a surprise hit for Channel 4—its biggest show in 20 years. “It definitely went up in scale, much bigger, much faster, lots of new characters and more storylines,” he says of the production. “I think fans will have loved the direction it went in.” A third season looks like a shoo-in.

Then there was the closing chapter of The Fall. Over the course of the show’s story arc critics and audiences endured the stuff of nightmares as Gillian Anderson’s detective hunted sadistic serial killer Paul Spector, played by fellow Ulsterman Jamie Dornan. Colin joined the show in season two as enigmatic detective Tom Anderson and reveals it was equal parts tension and anticipation during the filming of the endgame. “A pure page-turner! I couldn’t wait to get the next page of the script and that says a lot about the writer’s skill,” he admits. What was it like working with Gillian? “Just brilliant. Gillian’s a consummate professional, such a joy to work with and she has a really good sense of humour. She had really heavy scenes, but she was just able to let go after filming.” What about Jamie? “Absolutely brilliant, he’s had global success and he’s exactly the same as when I first started working with him. He’s a real talent.”

If last year was good, then 2017 is set to be even better. He’s in final talks on a number of projects, including another film that he hopes will start shooting in the early summer. Meanwhile, he’s attracting considerable attention from across the Atlantic. “There are a lot of exciting dramas happening, and right now a lot of American things are coming through,” he says.

Talk turns to the day of his photo shoot, which I suspect might not have been the most enjoyable experience for the publicity-shy actor. “It was brilliant! The guys were so good! It was basically a group of people in a room with a camera having a bit of a laugh,” he volunteers, somewhat enthusiastically, before pausing as if to compose himself. After a few seconds he continues: “Obviously, in any of those situations it’s not a normal thing to be photographed, it’s not really second nature to me. So, anything that makes the whole experience relaxed, enjoyable and fun that’s the key, and the guys really did that for me.”

It’s apparent he draws a clear distinction between performing for his art and self-promotion—the later of which he accepts as part and parcel of his profession. “I think it’s important to divide the line between your professional and personal self,” he says. I press him further on how he finds the right balance between championing his work and maintaining a safe distance from media intrusion. “With so many shows being on TV there is a commitment in terms of publicity that wasn’t as strong as in the past. Yes, when you work on a job, it’s important that you’re proud of it and you want to support it. The other side of it is the nastier side, which can backfire on people.” A diplomatic answer tempered with his signature frankness.

It’s nearing the end of the interview, but his last remarks remind me of something he said at the outset that neatly sums up the actor’s perspective. “Whenever I did theatre, I’d go in, do the job, go home and trust that the work we had done was enough. We didn’t need anyone’s approval, disapproval or opinions.” In our current hashtag culture, it’s refreshing to hear someone completely unfazed by fame, while somehow still managing to wear their sensibilities so lightly.

DC preferences #1 How you meet

Diana Prince/ Wonder Woman

She was tracking down another immortal. From what she understood, they weren’t an Amazon or a God, but they never aged. She didn’t expect her search to lead her all over the world, she had been in Syria, Somalia, South Sudan, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, now she was walking the wards of a children’s hospital in Dublin.

She was almost distracted from her mission by the children. She took her time to talk and take a picture with each of them. She immediately knew it was you when she saw you, talking with one of your patient’s parents, a stethoscope hanging from your neck. Once you were done she approached you. What she didn’t expect was you to greet her with a gentle smile, “I knew it was a matter of time before you found me Miss…”

“Prince, Diana Prince” she said as she held out her hand.

“Dr (y/n) (y/l/n)” you said as you shook her hand, “I know you’ve came a long way, but would it be okay if we spoke later, my shift ends in an hour”, whilst looking up apologetically.

“I will remain here until you are done” Diana said a small smile pulling at her lips.

Kara Danvers/Supergirl

You had the same powers as her and her cousin but you weren’t Kryptonian, well not entirely. You were a well-known hero and worked as an illustrator for children’s books in National-City. As a result of your work you were going to be interviewed by Catco’s new art and literature editor, Kara Danvers.

The two of you were in the middle of your interview when your phones went off. Lucy Lanes name flashing on your screen, Alex Danvers flashing on hers. That’s when your eyes met. “You work for the DEO” you said simultaneously.

Alex Danvers

As the DEO chief doctor, the first time you met Alex Danvers wasn’t the best circumstances. “Agent Danvers could you please sit down” came the frustrated voice of your co-worker.

“Dr Williams go get a coffee I’ll take over” you said as you walked into the room. As soon as your co-worker left Agent Danvers started her protests once again.

“You may be a doctor but you are also an agent and I order you to let me go and do my job” she said as she stood in front of you. You sighed in response and Agent Danvers thought she had won.

“DEO Health Policy 1.1.A states clearly that when it comes to the health and well being of all agents, no matter the rank, the doctors have the final say, so Agent Danvers sit your ass down on that bed and let me stitch up the cut on your head and carry out a concussion evaluation” you said looking her directly in the eye. To your surprise she smirked.

Lucy Lane

You were a naval meteorologist and met Lucy for the first time during a military tribunal, you were asked to give your expert opinion on the weather conditions that may or may not have affected the flight of an army jet. After Lucy saw you were a reliable witness you became her go to for cases involving meteorology.

It had been several years since your last court appearance and you were now working in Catco, travelling the world and reporting on the weather and natural disasters. It was when you saw Lucy that morning that the two of you got talking, “Major Lane is that you?” you asked, feeling relieved that it was her when she turned around, “Lieutenant Commander (y/l/n), it’s good to see you” she said.

“Its good to see you to, but its just (y/n) now, what brings you to National City?”

Cat Grant

It was early on in both of your careers when Cat Grant first interviewed you. “So (y/n) where did you get the inspiration for your latest film” she asked relaxing back in her seat preparing to take notes on your answer. “To be honest, is it okay if I call you Cat?” you asked and she nodded back, “To be honest Cat, I took it from everyday sexism, when bringing a character like the Black Widow to life you look at what society say are her weaknesses and turn them into her strengths.”

“People are complaining about there being a female dominated cast in a super hero movie what do you have to say about that” she said, sighing slightly at the stupidity of the people complaining.

That was when a broad grin took over your face, “I never even noticed that it was female dominated”. That was when Cat Grant knew that she would get on well with you.

Harley Quinn

“Touch my friend again and I swear to god you’ll be drinking from a straw for the rest of your sorry miserable life” you threatened the guy who was easily a foot taller than you. Harley was kind of shocked, she was about to step in and beat the no good creep into a pulp when she saw you.

“If you’re jealous sweet cheeks, I don’t mind you joining us” he said as he grabbed your hips and pulled you towards him. That’s when he was suddenly doubled over in pain, holding his hands between his legs. Before anyone could react he was on the floor twitching and electricity was coming from your hands.

You didn’t notice his friend come up behind you. But Harley did. “Hey Mista, sneaking up on people isn’t nice ya hear” she said as she hit him round the head with her bat.

By the time the two of you had beaten up every guy in the bar it was late and way passed closing. “Harley, nice ta meet ya” she said offering you her hand and a wide smile.

“(y/n) and its good to meet you too, thanks by the way god knows what those guys would have dome if you didn’t help” you said taking her hand and smiling back at her.

“Don’t mention it, ya need a hand getting your friend back home?” she asked looking at your friend who was out cold in the booth where you had left her.

“That would be amazing” you said, giving Harley a grateful look.

Poison Ivy

Once she herd of your powers she knew she had to meet you. How did you have the same powers as her? She needed to know. That was how she ended up sat in front of Gotham city hall, looking at you from a distance. She watched carefully as you gently touched a rose on one of the rose bushes that lined the walls.

Then she noticed the movement of the dandelion poking through the paving stones. She touched it lightly, feeling its message. “If you have something to ask Miss Ivy, just ask it”, she looked across at you with an eyebrow raised only to see you smirking at her.

Winn Scott

You needed a second pair of hands and fast. Of course the first person who your bosses at the DEO though of was Winn. You were in your office typing with one hand and trying to untangle wires with the other. “Agent (y/l/n) this is Winn, he’s going to give you a hand with the thing you’re doing that I don’t really understand” Kara said as she looked around your office, eyebrows knitted in confusion at the absolute chaos.

“Hi Winn thanks for jumping in” you said, briefly looking up at him “Right now were hacking an unknown alien system in a coding language we don’t understand, whilst connecting up Kara’s pod to use Kryptonian tech to create confusion and make them think the hack isn’t coming from a human source”. You said as Winn reached out and took the wires untangling them allowing you to type with both hands now.

“So hook this up to the CPU and create a Kryptonian firewall using the pods basic coding for reference” he said, “That pretty genius” he said as he connected the wires. “Well see if it works first” you said smiling.

J'onn J'onzz

You thought you were the last of the Green Martians, until you saw him. “You seem to have fitted into the human world well” said the Martian standing in front of you.

“How” you said as you looked up at him in awe, “I thought…”

“That you were the only one left” he said, looking at you as you transformed in front of him.

Jimmy Olsen

As Catco’s war correspondent you travelled the world with you laptop, notebook, pen and your usual photographer. However your usual partner had changed job, looking for a slower pace of life. So you sat in your office waiting for your new photographer before you planned out your new trip. That was when you saw the head of photography at the door. You looked up in confusion, “I’m assuming you’re coming to tell me that you couldn’t find a photographer for this trip” you said.

“I couldn’t find a willing photographer, so I will be going with you” he said as he held up his camera.

“And Cat’s okay with this?” you asked, wondering whether she would really let her award winning head of photography go into a war zone.

“She wants good pictures, you and me are the only people crazy enough to go into this particular war zone” He said as he sat down on the chair opposite you.

“Fair enough” you shrugged as you pulled a map out of your desk.

Clark Kent

You worked at the Daily Planet as part of the world political section and you both covered American Politics. You met him after you returned from reporting on a NATO summit, “Hi, I’m Clark Kent” he said standing up to shake your hand once he saw you. “I’m (y/n) (y/l/n), it’s nice to meet you” you said as you shook his hands.

Bruce Wayne

You found him battered, bruised and unconscious in the dumpster at the side of your apartment building. You immediately ran in doors and got your neighbour to help bring him in side. Being a nurse you had medical supplies in your apartment.

You were patching him up when he woke up, “Who are you?” he said as he looked up at you realising his mask was sitting you your coffee table. “I am (y/n) (y/l/n) but I feel more like Claire Temple at the minuet” you said as threaded the needle, preparing to stitch the cut on his head. “Now this might sting a bit” you murmured as you leaned towards him.

It's so great to find another fan blog of BatB and Le Duo and Luke Evans! :) And I love Le Duo so much! Do you have some headcanons about these two and you would share them with us?

Hello Anon! Well, it’s impossible to not love them! Just look at them! :D

I absolutely have some headcanons!

- before the first time they met, both were REALLY nervous!, because they need a good chemistry - because Gaston and LeFou

- and Luke was already in the table read room and Josh walked into it, with Emma, and Luke saw him, but was too nervous to go to him so he watched him from the distance

- and Josh made everyone laugh!? Literally everyone!?

- and they started talking and after 10 minutes they just KNEW it - best friends forever

- they both have a great sense of humor, so during filming (sometimes) they try to make the other one laugh

- and josh has a hard time not to laugh when Luke is in character - because he plays Gaston so very well

- the mirror scene?! yeah, they had to shoot it SO MANY TIMES, because everytime LeFou has to talk to Gaston, Josh has to laugh

- and Luke has a hard time to keep a straight face everytime Josh is on a horse

- to put it in a nutshell: most of the bloppers are about these two laughing

- AND THEY SING ALL THE TIME

- when Josh is arriving at set, early in the morning he’s singing “good morning” to Luke and Luke does the same

- which leads to a conversation, completly sung

- and they sing disney songs and musical numbers - ALL THE TIME

- “is there one song you two DON’T know?!” - they know all the songs

- and they talk for HOURS about disney

- “cinderella is such an amazing movie!” - “yes, but NO WAY is it better than snow white” - “are you crazy?! of course it is! bibidi babedi boo!” - “hei ho song!”

- Luke visited Josh and Ida numerours times (and vice versa) and at one point Josh and Luke had a Disney weekend

- which is basically 48 hours, these two infront of the TV, watching every disney movie…and singing

- Ida was away with the girls, but at some point she returned to check how her husband was and she found him with Luke on the living room floor, singing “Let it go”, together

- and Ida absolutely understands why Josh has a bromance-crush on Luke - because Luke is the nicest and sweetest human being ever!?!

- “i honestly think about making him a godfather or something, because if something happens to us, i want him to take care of our children” - “Ida, i was thinking the SAME THING!” - “…actually I was a bit joking…” - “oh…but can we discuss this?!”

- and Ida knows her husband (who is a cuddler) and so she’s very happy when she finds out, Luke is one too

- her whatsapp with Josh is at least 50% pictures of Josh and Luke cuddling somewhere

- and during night filming, Luke had a break, so he took a much needed nap somewhere

- and Josh saw it and saw, that Luke was freezing and he also needed a nap

- “Josh, you can’t cuddle with Luke when he’s aslee…” - “MY BOY IS FREEZING SO YES I CAN!”

- and a bit later Emma and Dan found them cuddled up, sleeping and Dan was like “Are we sure, they aren’t married?!”

- also: Josh is such a great masseur

- and yes, they shared a hotel room, everytime they traveled together

- and the PR-Disney team had a hard time because “Guys, you can’t share a room! We’ve booked seperate rooms. Would you please…”

- in the end one of them always ended up in the other ones room so at some point the PR team was like “Okay! Have a room together!”

- and if you were looking for one of them, there was a 99,99999999% chance the other one was there too

- besides Disney, the could and would talk about everything - no matter where and when

- and sharing a hotel room was maybe also a bad decision, because they would stay up really long and watch movies together or just talk for hours (because who needs sleep?!)

- and during production breaks they would talk with each other nearly every day

- and when Josh’s birthday came up, Luke got all excited

- and he planned that BIG suprise birthday party and orded the cake and made sure everyone is there and OF COURSE he would bring the cake inside the room and would start singing

- “hey guys, we thought you two should go together on the press tour. is that a problem?!” - “WE GO TOGETHER ON THE PRESS TOUR!”

- Josh is also an awesome wingman

- because there is this cute assisstent guy and Luke thinks he looks nice and he told Josh (Josh already saw Luke’s glances)

- and “You should talk to him.” - “Why should I?” - “Because you think, he’s cute.” - “I’m…not…” - “Oh come on! Talk to him!” - “I don’t even know if he’s gay.” - “He is.” - “How do you know?!” - “I just know! Talk to him!”

- but Luke is too shy so Josh makes sure he always needs something so the assisstent guy has to help him and “Hey, have you met my friend Luke?”

- unfortunately the guy already has a boyfriend, but he was flirting with Luke and went on one or two dates with him, so when Luke finds out he’s a bit heart-broken

- that’s the night he sends Josh so many text messages, because he really needs his best friend right now and when Josh sees all the messages, he rushes to Luke and “He doesn’t deserve you. He’s an asshole.”

- and at one Valentin’s Day, Josh sends Luke the biggest bouquet of roses he could find (because he’s such a cutie) with a very sweet message: “You’re the Lady to my Tramp, the Ariel to my Sebastian, the Peter to my Wendy, the Tigger to my Winnie Pooh, … . But most of all, you’re the Gaston to my LeFou, and I love you!”

- and Luke had to laugh so much and that’s one of the sweetest things ever

- these two also got drunk, at least once

- and the night ended with these two telling each other how much they love each other

- “Luke, I just love you.” - “No man. I love you more.” - “That’s not possible, because I love you the most.” - “No, no, no. I love you to the moon and back.” - “Maybe, but I love you to the sun and…”

- and the sentecne “You two are like an old married couple.” is one of the sentences they here the most and “yes, we are.”

- and “Luke, why the hell are you perfect?!” - “I’m not?!?” - “Yes, you are!” - because Josh is seriously amazed by the fact that everything about Luke Evans is perfect - EVERYTHING

- and he just can do anything?! LITERALLY ANYTHING?!?

BTS Theory - The real story explained ~ Part 1.

[PLEASE READ IN ORDER - Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3 / Part 4 / Conclusion]

Generally speaking, we can all agree that the theme of The Most Beautiful Moments in Life is youth. However we’re still to this day arguing about the real signification of the story plot they presented to us.

I read a tremendous number of theories and I personally was never satisfied because there was always something unexplainable. So I gathered all of the informations, I did a lot of research and I finally came up with this conclusion : Nobody actually dies in the Hyyh series.

It kinda goes against everything we’re used to read among the theories but this is what makes the most sense to me. First of all, if Jin was in fact dead, why is he seen interacting with the members during the MV Run, I Need U and The Prologue ? Some of you may think that the scenes where they’re interacting are from the past and the one where he’s seen filming are from the present, with him filming representing that he’s dead. But that doesn’t make sense because those scenes are obvioulsy from the same time. They wear the same clothes and they’re in the same place.

I don’t know about you but I’m not really convinced :/

The fact that he’s not seen in the same pictures as the others is still not a proof that is convincing enough for me because it could be the result of so many other reasons. And just because Jin is filming doesn’t mean that he’s dead. It could mean a lot of other things too (I’ll get through them in this theory).

And then there’s the theory that all of them died except Jin, and this again doesn’t explain a lot of things. I doubt Jin imagined the whole MV Run because they’re obviously THERE. They’re having interactions with other humans (getting caught by the police, etc…). I think this theory would have been credible in I Need U or the Prologue but in RUN, they’re obviously in the same time and space as Jin (Interacting with him, ex : V knocking out Jin’s house of cards).Ok but what if Run is in the past when they weren’t dead yet ?”  That could be possible but then I wanna know the reason why Jin is always looking straight at the camera like he knows something. What does that mean ? And why are we seeing V struggling in the water ? And why are the scenes always repeating themselves from I Need U to Run and also the Prologue ?

And why do they keep talking about « positive message », « The most beautiful moment in life » and « Nevermind » etc.. if the story is actually about 6 members dying in the end ? What’s the point ?

I feel like it’ll just be anti-climatic if that’s the case. If you think about it, they did two very artistic music videos (without taking the japanese mvs into account), a 12min long prologue video with a bunch of hints and references, and even an exhibition ! And to only reveal that Jin dies in the end ? Or that they all died except Jin ? Why would they put so many importance on every little detail, hid clues everywhere if it only was the story of a member dying, and we don’t even know the reason he died.

Don’t get me wrong, they could’ve easily done an mv telling the story of their death (other idols had done that too) but what we have here is way bigger than this.

When Rapmon was asked what message they were trying to convey with this song (and album) this is what he answered : « We didn’t want to just blankly say ‘cheer up’ or ‘be strong.’ We really wanted to comfort people our way, by producing the music and writing the lyrics ourselves. We poured our heart and soul into this amazing song ».

I think that’s awesome, and this is why we have to realized that this isn’t just a story about who’s dead an who’s not. This is a story about YOUTH. « Part one explained how youth is tiring and difficult, and it also touched on how we feel like we’re always on edge. Part two will have a more adventurous and daring feel to it. »

There’s a LOT of work and thinking, (a lot more than we think) in the making of these videos. And every single cut has a meaning. Nothing is made by coincidence. The art director tried to express something through all of this and I’m gonna try to decrypt it.

Among all the theories I have readen, the one that I approved the most is the Peter Pan theory.

This is a theory comparing BTS to the Lost Boys, and basically saying that their story is just a modern version of Peter Pan.

Peter Pan is also a book about death and thanatophobia (fear of death), reason why Peter Pan refuse to grow up. He wants to stay a child forever, and avoid the responsibilities of adulthood. In some way, he locks himself in the world of childhood and he often adopts a tyrannical and hostile attitude towards any form of authority. The peter pan syndrom takes its name from the refusal to grow up and integrate the adult world, percieved as too conventional.

This describes BTS’s behaviours in the last mvs. Moreover we got a lot of hints about their concept being connected to the world of Peter Pan.

The hashtags under the concept photos.

The concept photos themselves seemed like they were shot in Neverland.

Jhope mentions Neverland in Whalien 52 “Even if the time passes by in the cold abyss, Neverland”. And of course we have the Now 3 photobook that is filled with Neverland references.

~

Now let me tell you how the story begins. This simply starts with the story of 7 young boys who refuse to grow up and ajust to society. They live in their own « neverland », not caring about the rules and living their life to the fullest without thinking about the repercution of their acts. But one of the boys (Jin) is different. As being the oldest, he starts to see the world differently and begins to break away from that lifestyle. Even though he still tries to hang out with his friends who are a lot more immature, he’s definitely not in the same state of mind as them anymore. Jin isn’t the one who’s delusional, it’s the opposite, the other members are the ones who’re delusional. But little did they know that all of their lives will soon take a big turn.

There were six lost boys in total, if you add Peter Pan you get 7. And all of their personality matches one of the members of BTS.

After studying their behaviour carefully, this is what each member is supposed to represent in the Peter Pan world in my opinion :

Slightly is the second in command. Slightly is shown to be the oldest member (and the tallest) of the Lost Boys. In the book series it is revealed that Slightly’s real name is James. He’s described as the most conceited of the boys, because he believes that he, unlike the others, remembers what life was like before he was “lost.” Slightly is, apparently, a poor make-believer, but he does seem to have a talent for music; he is described as cutting whistles and flutes from the branches of trees and dancing to tunes he creates himself.

→ JIN.  I think this character is the closest one to Jin’s character. Jin is the only one who knows what life is like outside « neverland » because he’s the only one who’s not a child anymore, and can’t help but grow up. He’s a poor make-believer because he himself is not a believer anymore. Slightly seems to be very creative. We can observe this creative side in Jin, who’s always filming and seem to have a passion for films and cinematography. Also, as we know, Jin is the oldest member (but not the leader , keep that in mind).

Cubby is the toughest of all the Lost Boys. Cubby may be the most famous Lost Boy. He speaks as if he does not have much knowledge. gets into trouble so much that he habitually takes the blame even when he didn’t do it. He isn’t very smart but very loveable.

V →  His part is really important to the story, he’s almost the main character. He’s also the toughest because he’s able to change the story (I’ll explain it later). You also saw in the RUN music video that  he causes a lot of troubles (graffitis on the wall and on Jin, destroys the house of cards), he’s not laid back like some of the other members but is still lovable. But the reason why I picked V as Cubby and no one else is this «  takes the blame even when he didn’t do it. He isn’t very smart. » This is something you should bear in mind and take into account for later, when I’ll explain how his character actually gets manipulated a lot.

Nibs is the most active and doesn’t talk much. Nibs is described as happy and debonair, possibly the bravest Lost Boy. The only thing he remembers about his mother is that she always wanted a cheque book and says he would love to give her one - if he knew what it was.

SUGA → Now you may wonder why I chose Nibs as Suga, this was actually the closest to his personnality I found. It actually matches well his character in the mvs. He’s the most active, as you saw he wasn’t laid back at all and kinda portrayed a hot-tempered character with a very strong personality. He seemed care-free and debonair until the end (the car scene in RUN for example). He’s all over the place. He didn’t care about Jungkook at all when he was desperatly trying to calm him down during their fight scene. He’s possibly the bravest because he doesn’t care about what others say to him. Also in the I Need U mv he’s seen commiting suicide by burning himself which is the harshest death (also get to that later).

The Twins : A set of twins that finish each other sentences. The twins are treated as one in the book because Peter has no clue what twins are.

J-HOPE and JIMIN → Jhope and Jimin are extremely close in the mvs and the prologue. They definitely have a special bond. I know the others (rapmon/ V and Suga/Jungkook) are also paired up, but they all have their own lost boy character except Jhope and Jimin. And also, in those concept pictures they’re a lot more closer than the other couples and they’re not seen fighting anywhere. In the contrary it seems like they get along really well.

Tootles is described as the most unfortunate and humblest of the band, because “the big things” and adventures happen while “he has stepped round the corner”. This however has not soured but sweetened his nature. He is the one who shoots Wendy with a bow and arrow after Tinker Bell tells them Wendy is a bird that Peter wants killed. When Tootles realises his mistake, he asks Peter to kill him. Wendy however survives, and Tootles is spared. Though he is clumsy and silly, Tootles is the first to defend Wendy when she wants to return to London. At the end of the novel, he returns to London with Wendy and the other lost boys and eventually grows up to become a judge.

The only Lost Boy without a speaking voice; to compensate for this, he uses a large pad of paper to communicate. Tootles is the youngest of the Lost Boys and seems to be the most cunning of the group.

JUNGKOOK → You’ll understand why this character represents Jungkook perfectly once I’ll get to explain the MV Run. One of the obvious common characteristic is that they’re both the youngest. But there’s definitely more than that. Jungkook plays a much more important role in this story than we think. We’ll see later how he’s actually the second most mature character after Jin. Unlike the others, Jungkook seems a lot more laid back. He doesn’t get into troubles as much as the others. During the car scene for example, he doesn’t even do anything to the cars. He tries to reason with Suga when he was having a tantrum. During the “grass” scene you can see Jin sitting down, looking up (literally) at Jungkook and this shot isn’t a coincidence.

He’s looking up at Jungkook like he knows Jungkook is less childish than the other members, he hopes he can talk the other members into reason. Jungkook is the only one ready to take that step towards adulthood, but he’s always carried off by his hyungs.

And last but not least Peter Pan → RAP MONSTER.

Peter Pan is often described as « joyful, innocent, and heartless » and totally egocentric. In the story he’s incapable of love, compassion or some deep sense whatsoever. He remains eternally stuck in his own world, making no difference between game and reality.
Like peter pan, Rap Monster is the leader of the group. During this one scene in the Run mv, Rapmon seem to incite V to do bad things, even after they get arrested, he still smiles. During the car scene, he gave the cup to Jimin so he could empty it onto the car. The fact that they’re living like this doesn’t seem to bother him, he actually promotes this kind of life. He’s the only one who has the hashtag #Whatever under his concept pictures on instagram. He also has the hashtag #PLAY. The first scene with him in the beginning of run seems oddly strange. Like he’s the reason behind all of this.

« When they became too old, they either leave or are killed by Peter because growing up is against the rules of Neverland. » Since Jin is older than Rap Mon, he can’t kill him. That is why Jin is slowly leaving the group.

This picture couldn’t describe the storyline better. The fight between Jin, who’s growing up and Peter Pan (Rapmon) who doesn’t want to grow up.

You also may also have noticed the reccurance of the apparition of birds in both of the Mvs and the prologue, and how they are associated with the members.

« All children begin life as birds who starts becoming human once their given to their parents. When Peter was 7 months old, he thought he was a bird and flew. Because he was too young to understand that he wasn’t a bird. »

« The ability to fly disapear once one had no longer perfect faith that one could fly. »

The members are still birds, because they have perfect faith, like Peter Pan. Jin has probably lost his ability to « fly ». This is why he’s never seen in the same pictures as the members. The pictures are simply metaphor of the fact that they’re not living in the same world anymore.

Unfortunately, their wild and unhealthy lifestyle will lead one of them to commit the inevitable.

I always thought that V stabbing his father was a little bit of an overreaction to the situation but now I think I understand him better. He was already living a very violent lifestyle and was behaving like a criminal way before that event took place. His mind wasn’t in the right place. He stabs his father (who symbolizes authority and adulthood) after seeing him beat his sister (or mother). When he realize what he has done, he falls into panic. It’s like he received a big slap on the face, he suddenly realizes that his acts have consequences (he was living without worrying about consequences until now), and that means that all of the things he thought was real, all of his beliefs got suddenly thrown into the trash. Neverland was a lie. He’s confuse, completly lost. His mind and vision starts to blur and reality becomes distorted. And without realizing it, he begins to picture in his mind what’s going to happen for him and his friends next.

The butterfly effect : When one thing, big or little, changes, it can have a big impact to it’s surrounding.

We all thought that the I NEED U Mv was the result of what happened after V killed his father (every member falling into depression and killing themselves). But I noticed something weird… And I’m sure you did too. Every MVs (+ prologue) they did after that were A LOT similar to the first mv of Hyyh, I Need U. It’s like the same scenes repeating over and over again, but in different locations and from different perspectives. I honestly wondered a lot on why they choose to that, instead of simply creating new scenes, a follow up to I need U ? They decided to re-do the same scenes with slight changes ?

Well the reason why is that none of this is real.

All of this is only happening in one’s confuse and disturb mind. V’s mind.

I. I NEED U

After murdering his own father with his own hands, V can’t think straight and falls into a state of panic and euphoria. He sees flashes of good memories before his eyes, but also unconscioulsy imagines the future that’ll awaits them, now that he had that revelation that made him realize they were living badly. This is what the I NEED U MV is all about. It’s a representation of V’s mind after killing his father. The I Need U mv shows a distorted version of what really happened, what V really lived in his past (as shown in the Run MV). He just killed his father and now he is imagining the worst that’s gonna happen. He uses real memories (Jimin in the bathroom, Jungkook getting beaten up, the familiar settings) to create new ones but darker. This is almost like a butterfly effect, when one event can change the whole turn of the story, except that the butterfly effect is taking place in V’s mind. (Their exhibition’s name was Butterfly Dream)

They were jokingly drowning Jimin in the bathroom which unconsciously stayed in V’s mind. In this alternate reality he imagines him drowning for real.

He knows that Jhope has narcolepsia, so he imagines Jhope dying of his illness (or from overdosing on his pills).

In this scene we see Jhope walking towards the opposite direction (of the one way road). He tried hard to rebel against society and live differently from the others but it eventually leaded him to his undoing.

The fact that Suga lives in a motel is quite emphazied throughout the whole MV. They kept showing the motel sign. Although, In the Run MV, Suga and Jungkook seem to be living together.

V is aware of the fights that were occuring between Suga and Jungkook, so in this alternate dimension made of his worries, suga is no longer living with Jungkook. He left him and this is why he lives in a motel.

V also knows Suga’s hot-tempered personality. That is why he pictures him having one of the most harsh death = death by burning.

Since Rapmon is Peter Pan, V imagines him in one of the worst situation for him = working for « adults » and having no freedom. Being treated like a servant and having responsabilities.

V knows how much rapmon loves lollipops, but that lollipop becomes a cigarette in the representation of his worst worries. When the money is thrown on the floor, rapmon doesn’t appreciate it at all. So he explodes the gas station because he’s stubborn and egocentric. (I always thought that exploding the gaz station just because someone throw him money or because he wasn’t happy was a bit of an overreaction. But since he’s peter pan, it makes sense that V thinks that that’s what he’d do.)

V knows that Jungkook is a little bit different from them and maybe closer to Jin. You may have notice that there’s a lot of big close up in the MV of Jungkook being sad. (more than the other members exluding Jin). In this scene we see a close up on Jungkook’s eye and in the next cut there’s this flower burning. → Jungkook is witnessing the other members slowly disintegrating and breaking down and can’t do nothing about it.

V knows how that would made Jungkook sad since all he wanted to do was help the other members (like when he fought suga so he would calm down). In one of the « happy moments » towards the end of I Need U, when they’re all running, Jungkook is the only one walking on the wall. He’s different from the others.

V was probably affected by Suga and Jungkook’s fight. He didn’t forget it. In the representation of his worries, Jungkook is getting beat up by a group of person (gang?) in a familiar place (where they used to have fun).

Again, V knows that Jin is the only mature one and that he loves the other members like they were his younger brothers. That is why he imagines him suffering from the other member’s deaths.

In the MV, I found one hint that could be confirming that V actually thinks Jin is the only one who’s is going to survive and not the opposite (Jin the only one dying).

6 stars up → 6 members going to heaven ?

Also, during the skit in the album hyyh pt.2, something they said really stuck in my mind. Jin suddenly wonders, what if I NEED U never existed and everything was just a dream and they wake up in their dance room practicing No More Dream? He just brought it up like that and it honestly hit me hard because I was already thinking about that theory, and they decided to talk about it in their skit. I don’t feel like it’s a coincidence.

And Rap Monster arriving late (in the skit), knocking on the door, and Jhope opening the door for him reminded me immediatly of this scene in Run.

Tell me abt the batkids' social media accounts

TIME FOR ME TO BLAB

Dick Grayson: social media confuses dick tbh so he sticks to instagram only, sometimes snapchat if he wants to send dumb pics to the family. he’s so insta-famous. boy either knows his angles or he doesnt have a bad one bc DAMN he gets a lot of emoji usage in his comments if u catch my drift (the fire, tongue, and and 100% emoji’s bein the bulk of it) but also dick is the one to post really embarrassing ‘throwback thursday!’ pictures of the fam and (usually tim) just comments ‘please delete this’ and dick never does. Honestly dick’s instagram account is just a nice fun time. he runs the kind of instagram account that makes you wanna bring this boy to dinner so you and ur mom can drool over how good ur taste in dude’s are…….jason however

Jason Todd: jason has a vine, an instagram, and a twitter. on his instagram is selfies taken with angles that should make him look awful but never do. theyre usually kinda blurry (adds to the aesthetic) and sometimes there’s blood on him, his clothes, his phone, but don’t worry about it. jason loooooves taking bad candids of the boys, he’s the only one who’s taken a bad pic of dick. for the girls however, he takes amazing candid shots and labels them ‘queen of the household’ for cass or ‘fucker in charge of you fucking fucks’ for kori. for the boys he captions them ‘for sale- $25′ or ‘pic of a pile of dirt i saw lmao’ his twitter is just him bitching about missions that go wrong and or @-ing people who vauge about him, his most replayed vine is when him, roy, and kori were dancing to ‘bitch betta have my money’ while throwing around a hundred dollar bills. its everyones ‘squad goals’

Tim Drake: tim’s here for the memes and to post self deprecating humor like the rest of us. he has a tumblr, instagram, twitter, snapchat, (and a secret reddit account dont judge the boy he made it when he was fourteen he barely goes on anymore) tim’s twitter started out as business only but after a few too many all nighters it turned into a surreal account that’ll post shit like ‘justice leauge no mercy run’ and then post details about the wayne charity foundation. (jason faved the justice leauge no mercy run tweet tho) his least favorite meme is when people call him the ‘Jerry of the Wayne Family’ which resulted in him changing his bio to ‘if anyone I’m Ben and also offended.’ Stephanie @’s him at least one a week with ‘hi jim!’

Damian Wayne: Damian has an art blog, an instagram, and a snapchat he’ll use sometimes and that is it because he refuses to partake in these frivolous websites but also people need to see his pets. he posts so many pics of titus, alfred, and bat-cow and everyone is in love with them. sometimes he’ll post really aesthetic pics of his work space and some of his drawings. his account is actually the most organized of the entire families. his favorite post is when he made a drawing composed of stick figures and then set it on fire and captioned it ‘when your family keeps asking you to draw them’

Stephanie Brown: Stephanie is so good with instagram, she posts delicious looking food, amazing selfies, pics of her hanging with her girls, pictures of her teasing the boys, it’s great. she’ll also post those cool edits like ‘if he puts his hands on you, rip them off’ and ‘pro-cats, anti-catcalls’ (selina reposted that on her account tbh) she also has snapchats and an inside meme her and the family play is ‘where’s tim?’ and then see who’s the fastest to locate where tim fell asleep.

Cassandra Cain: Her insta is all black and white, barely any captions, if any it’s like one word or an emoji. takes really good candids of the family, will post videos of herself training with loud rap in the background. basically a bad bitch without ever having to do anything but be herself. her snapchat’s a mess though it’s just bad videos of stuff she sees around the Manor. so like sometimes it’s tim watching netflix, dick cartwheeling just because, jason sneaking in to help alfred with dinner, and one time she caught bruce right when he woke up and was in his dad robe and slippers while he muttered ‘please don’t tell me that’s the sun’ while cass was filming him. he then went back to bed. rest easy bruce

Part 2: 10 More Animated Movies Beyond Pixar

Part 1: Animation Beyond Pixar
Part 3: Another 10 Animated Movies Beyond Pixar
Part 4: Some More Animated Movies Beyond Pixar

Hey! It looks like people really liked the first post, so let’s do it again. This time I’m going to expand the rules a little bit and show you 10 movies that were not produced by Disney, Pixar, Dreamworks, or Studio Laika. Hope you find something cool!

Kirikou and the Sorceress (Kirikou et la Sorcière, 1998)

The breakout hit of French animation master, Michel Ocelot, Kirikou and the Sorceress is an invented fairytale drawing from west African folklore. You’ll immediately notice the style, how it alternates between very lush, lovingly rendered scenery and somewhat limited animation. A lot of the limitations of this movie can be chocked up to the infant-status of French animation at the time, but in spite of a few reused walk-cycles Kirikou is a wonderful film! In fact, Kirikou was such a success in French theaters that it spawned its own sequel in 2005, Kirikou and the Wild Beasts.

The story recounts the birth and early travails of Kirikou, an impetuous but incredibly clever infant boy. Kirikou’s village has been all-but enslaved by the evil sorceress Karaba. It’s up to Kirikou to keep his ailing villagers safe from the sorceress, and find a way to stop Karaba for good.

Sita Sings the Blues (2008)

Sita Sings the Blues is an interesting creature, it’s actually been released under the Creative Commons license, so you can download it for free right now. A labor of love by cartoonist/animator Nina Paley, the movie is entirely animated with Adobe Flash. Ordinarily I’m not very fond of flash animation, it’s become the new fad in TV because it’s cheap, and has unfortunately ushered in a new era of bland, limited animation cartoons (Teen Titans Go, I’m looking at you). That said, Sita Sings the Blues is a wonderful example of how an artist can exceed & in some cases exploit the limitations of Flash to create really charming cartoons brimming with beautiful designs.

Featuring 4 different animation styles and an overabundance of musical set pieces, Sita Sings the Blues contrasts the many trials and tribulations of the mythical Sita (wife of hindu folk hero, Rama) with the waning days of the animator’s own marriage. Interspersed between these two stories is a more light-hearted retelling of the Ramayana (the story of Rama) by indian shadow puppets.

.

My Dog Tulip (2009)

My Dog Tulip recounts the trials and tribulations of one Mr. Ackerley as he attempts to raise his bratty german shepherd, Tulip. The most striking feature of this film is its styling, which can charitably be called “impressionistic” but more accurately be deemed “scribbly”. Everything is freeform, and the models shift and twist into the most expressive shapes for their given scenes. Considering that every one of its 60,000+ frames is actually an individually-rendered digital painting, the movie becomes quite impressive.

This is a very restful movie, aimed at an older audience, so save it for when you next want to relax. At once charming, silly, dry, and very juvenile, it’s hard not to smile as you watch Ackerley’s animated self blunder through raising his dog. And though Ackerley shamelessly anthropomorphizes Tulip, the film (quite refreshingly) will never let you forget that she’s a silly, fidgety dog.

.

Perfect Blue (Pāfekuto Burū, 1997)

While Japan produces a lot of animation, most of it is just miserable crap. That said, every so often someone amazing gets to make a movie. Writer/director Satoshi Kon was one of those people.

Kon’s directorial debut, Perfect Blue, is an intriguing, upsetting, suspenseful, and frightening movie. A young pop star leaves music for acting, but is traumatized by her first role. Shellshocked by her first experience, the actress falls into a fugue state, and the people involved in the production start dying. All signs point to the murderer being the actress, and while she should be recovering she’s inadvertently pulled into the world of an obsessive stalker who has been watching her every move.

The Illusionist (L’Illusionniste, 2010)

Based on a recovered script by legendary French comedian/director, Jacques Tati, The Illusionist is the story of the last bright spark of an aging stage magician’s career. Tati loosely based the film on his own stage career, which happened to start at a time when many stage acts were being muscled out of venues by young, hip rock bands. Supposedly Tati wrote the original script as an attempt to reconcile with his eldest daughter, whom he had abandoned as a baby. This is heavily-disputed. Delicately-rendered and beautifully-told, the Illusionist features no distinguishable dialogue, but its sentiments come across crystal-clear.

An older, struggling French magician takes a gig out in the Scottish boonies, and in the process picks up a new fan who thinks his magic is real. The result is a quirky father/daughter relationship between two strangers, the adoration of one keeping the other going during one of the darkest times of his life.

The Secret of NIMH (1982)

If you’re going to talk American animation beyond the big 3 studios then you have to go back, before the Disney Renaissance. If you’re going to talk American animation before the Disney Renaissance then there are two giant, inescapable names that you must address: Don Bluth and Ralph Bakshi. Let’s talk about a Don Bluth movie.

It’s easy to forget, now that Disney has been ascendant for 25 years, but from the 60s to the end of the 80s Disney’s animation studio nearly shut down half a dozen times. Having endured this long decline, Don Bluth, one of Disney’s veteran animators and directors, had enough. He left Disney and took 16 of the studio’s animators with him, intent on getting back to basics and producing feature-length animated films again. His name might not ring a bell, but you’ve definitely seen his movies: An American Tail 1 & 2 (the Fievel movies), All Dogs Go To Heaven, Anastasia, and the original Land Before Time were all Don Bluth movies. The Secret of NIMH was actually Bluth’s first post-Disney feature film, which unfortunately means it’s less well-known than some of his later successes.

The Secret of NIMH shows us the life of a simple farm mouse, Mrs. Brisby. Mrs. Brisby’s son is very sick, and she desperately needs help moving him before her home is destroyed by the farmer’s plough. The only ones that can help are the mysterious rats of the rose bush, strange, almost magical creatures that seem to have known her late husband.

American Pop (1981)

If you’re going to talk American animation beyond the big 3 studios then you have to go back, before the Disney Renaissance. If you’re going to talk American animation before the Disney Renaissance then there are two giant, inescapable names that you must address: Don Bluth and Ralph Bakshi. Let’s talk about a Ralph Bakshi movie.

The king of rotoscope, Ralph Bakshi is the guy who really created and explored the idea that animation doesn’t always have to be for kids. What’s rotoscope? It’s literally animating on top of live-action footage. For ages it was used as a pre-CGI method for creating special effects (the original Star Wars, for example, featured heavy rotoscoping). Bakshi was the first director to use it to animate entire movies, admittedly with mixed success. Rotoscoping allows for incredibly realistic movement, but is (surprisingly) bad at translating facial expressions.

Considered one of Bakshi’s better movies, American Pop is an alternate history retelling of the rise of pop music in the United States. The story is presented through the eyes of four generations of a Russian Jewish immigrant family, each of whom has a profound impact on the music industry of their respective day. It’s a fascinating look at the type of people who defined musical genres through the years.

Azur & Asmar: The Princes’ Quest (Azur et Asmar, 2006)

Another original fairytale from Michel Ocelot! Ocelot has this fantastic skill of drawing from all points of a culture’s folklore and making a movie that’s at once evocative of its inspiration but satisfyingly original.

This time around Ocelot draws from dozens of Arabic folk tales, including some of the more infamous stories of 1,001 Arabian Nights. He also employed a new technique for 3D animation, rendering non-photo-realistic figures on top of painted backgrounds. The effect is absolutely stunning, and gives the entire movie a storybook feeling without looking like a series of drawings. It’s absolutely overflowing with rich colors and intricate arabic designs, and is a complete treat to behold.

The story: On the French countryside two boys are inexplicably born with the exact same destiny: to save the djinn fairy of the east. One is born to a wealthy french household, the other is born to an Arabic nursemaid working in the same household. The boys grow together, are forced apart, and eventually meet back up as fate guides them towards their shared destiny.

A Town Called Panic (Panique au village, 2009)

Most of the animated feature films worth a damn are dramas and serious adventure movies. They can start to weigh on you, if you watch them one after another. That’s why it’s so fantastic that movies like A Town Called Panic exist. An unapologetically silly, borderline nonsensical comedy that injects you into its bizarre world for 80 minutes and keeps you entertained the entire time.

A stop-motion animated feature that uses action figures (kind of like the old KaBlam! shorts on Nickelodeon), based on a Belgian/French TV series of the same name, A Town Called Panic recounts the lives of Horse, Cowboy, and Indian. Three roommates in a small rural town. It’s your average guys-order-too-many-bricks-for-a-birthday-present-then-accidentally-destroy-their-house-then-as-they’re-attempting-to-fix-the-house-with-the-bricks-aquatic-dwellers-start-stealing-their-half-finished-house romp. And it’s a delight. Highly recommended!

The Secret of Kells (2009)

The Secret of Kells is a glorious reminder that 2D animation is very much alive, and capable of being infinitely improved upon. In this case the movie is animated with stylized 2D drawings, but uses computer graphics to add color-washes and other subtle effects. The overall product is an all-too-rare visual treat in a medium that’s increasingly becoming a victim of computer technology, when it should be a beneficiary.

A young boy raised among monks finds his calling as a manuscript illuminator. But in order to become skilled enough to illuminate the legendary Book of Iona he’ll have to brave the dangerous forests of Kells and discover nature’s secrets from its wild pagan spirits.

Assumption (Lewis R Request)

“Ello ello ello!” Simon grins when you walk through the door into the sidemen house.
You spent a lot of time here. You weren’t a YouTuber yourself but you always helped them with any merch they had, meetings and basically anything and everything that a YouTuber does need help with. You generally spent a lot of time helping to film their videos and had been best friends with a lot of YouTubers for a while, specifically the sidemen. Simon and you had known each other for years and had become like siblings.
“How are you Mr author?” You laugh, a reference to the recent launch of their book.
“Number one on Amazon!!” He cheers and you grin.
“That’s amazing honestly” You smile and sit down opposite him on the island of the kitchen, “So what do you need help with today?”
“You do realise every time we say you should come round it doesn’t mean you’re meant to help us” He points out, “But actually we’ve got a bunch more books to sign and could do with a bit of help with organisation.
You chuckle, “Yeah sure, just as long as JJ doesn’t spend the whole time trying to sing”
“Its a deal” Simon grins, “Oh and I invited Lewis round as well” He says innocently, taking a sip of his coke.
“Really Minter?” You sigh, “Was that really necessary?”
“Yes it was my lovely!” He replies, “Because I will use everything in my power to prove to you that he bloody likes you back” he jabs your side as you go round to grab a drink from the fridge.
“Alright you keep trying with that then, I’ll spend my power in trying to make sure you keep your big mouth shut” You push his chin.
“Mouth shut about what?” Lewis’ familiar voice speaks up as he enters the house, slipping off his shoes.
“Oh I’m sure you’d love to know” Simon chuckles, “But I’m sworn to secrecy”
“Its nothing serious” You comment to a very confused Lewis.
“I’ll go grab all of the guys” Simon nods and jogs up the stairs but not before slipping a quick wink to you.
“So we’ve become the managers for the day then?” Lewis smiles.
“Yeah I believe so” You reply, “Can’t be that bad.”
“I guess not” He says and it is as though he feels awkward. Like his stomach had become a butterfly cage just like yours and the pink tint in his cheeks wasn’t just because of the heat of the large house. No, don’t think like that. He only saw you as a friend. And now you hadn’t replied. Great.
“Come on guys!” JJ yells when he runs down the stairs, clearly being far too energetic.
“You do realise we have another 750 books to sign today?” Josh follows behind him and JJ stops in his tracks.
He falls to the floor and makes all of you laugh just as soon as you all walk into the large lounge.
“Okay so should I hand them over to you guys and Lewis pack them away?” You suggest, walking over to the stacks of books on the other side of the room.
“You sure you two want to be that far apart?” Simon wiggles his brows and both you and Lewis glare at him
“I’m sure we’ll live” You comment and all of the boys take their places in the room to begin the long process of signing. Of course, they had loved working on the book and couldn’t wait to find out which of their fans received these copies but writing out your autograph that many times did get far too boring.
You play your Spotify playlist loud to fill the room and soon enough they are all singing along.
“This is such a throwback!” Vik laughs as Year 3000 begins to play.
Simon jumps up from his seat and begins dancing wildly with you in the room, reminding you of when the pair of you were teenagers and used to always joke around to make JJ laugh.
All of them sang along loudly but as Simon span you round once again, you noticed an element of hurt in Lewis’ eyes. Disappointed. Defeat.
Brushing it off, you and Simon returned to your places and continued to get on with the task at hand
After a long time of seeing the same page in a book over and over again, you finally reach the last one and all of the boys sigh in relief.
“Good job guys” You chuckle as they all stretch the muscles that had been fixed in the same seat for the whole time.
“Thanks for your help” Tobi nods, “You too Lewis”
“You guys can get back to filming or editing or whatever, we can pack away this stuff and everything” Lewis responds and all of the boys thank him before dispersing into different rooms for the collabs they were doing that day or to edit together.
“So that wasn’t too boring” You comment, lifting a box of books with enough ease to carry it over.
“Yeah, do you need some help with that?” He asks politely
” no I got it, thanks" You smile in return and drop the box at the right place.
You notice that he scuffs his feet on the floor and looks highly awkward and know its time to say something.
“What’s wrong Lewis?” You frown.
“Nothing nothing” He shakes his head, “Honestly”
“You know I’ll find out what it is eventually?” You narrow your eyes and he simply smiles innocently.
“So you and Simon they ay?” He starts and it causes a chuckle to rise from your throat.
“What are you talking about?” You laugh.
“Well you obviously like each other” He shrugs and you can tell it almost hurts him to say the words.
“Yeah like brother and sister Lewis. I think I have better taste than Simon Minter” You joke.
“Hey asshole!” Simon exclaims in faked shock, “You’d be very lucky to get a man like me.”
“Yeah you keep thinking that” You nod and he laughs, jogging off to grab some food from the kitchen.
“So you don’t like him?” Lewis raises his brow and you smile at his stupidity.
“Why would you ever think that?”
“I don’t know, just how you two are together. And when you were talking earlier I thought you were keeping it a secret that you were together or something” He admits and scratches the back of his neck.
“Well if you must know, we were talking about who I actually like” You comment.
“Its you” Simon hisses from behind you and you elbow his stomach.
Lewis looks up in utter shock and you fall in love with his adorable face automatically.
“Is he serious?!” He manages to question.
“Maybe” You chuckle quietly.
“Bye lewis, bye (y/n)!!” Simon calls and turns to go back to his room, “I’ll leave you to become the greatest couple of the century”

Youtuber!Jungkook

And last but not least is our beloved maknae, the second half to the Busan line, the ever so graceful Jeon Jungkook aka kookie aka I really miss blonde Jungkook like I l o v e dark haired kook don’t get me wrong but the blonde was such a good look and it was literally around for like 0.8 seconds and its just ?!?!?! what happened I need it back dear bighit, I need blonde Jungkook, black haired Yoongi and orange haired tae plz and thnx AND OH MY GO D I JUST SAW THE NEW PICTURES HOLY FUCK WHAT IS HAPPENING IDK IF ITS JUST THE LIGHTING BUT I ACTUALLY KINDA GOT ORANGE HAIRED TAE BACK OH MY GO D IS THIS A SIGN (I’m so excited rn im lowkey shaking)

  • Okay this kid’s channel could go so many ways
  • But I feel like Jungkook is really the type to go with one path
  • He’d have something he was really really passionate about and he wouldn’t really want to stray away from it
  • He’d be extremely dedicated to it
  • Kookie is a v v hardworking man (they all are really but this post is about kook) and that would translate into his videos
  • The editing would be great
  • Like he’d put so much work into it and really take his time to decide what clips he wants in there and what he doesn’t
  • He’d almost never miss an upload date
  • He would have like a really good schedule really
  • He films it and has it completely ready to upload the night before it’s meant to be uploaded
  • He gives himself time to edit but he’s also really quick when it comes to it
  • Kookie’s infamously known as the golden maknae bc he seems to good at just about everything and I can see editing be one of those things
  • It may take him a couple of hours depending on how long the video is but normally he can get it done fairly quickly
  • He’s typically done by midnight, starts the upload process which is honestly what takes the longest and then moves on with his night
  • Okay but like just picture this for a second
  • Gamer!Jungkook
  • I can honestly see this so well I kinda really need it
  • I don’t think he’d be a rage quitter
  • He does get frustrated though
  • He’s just sitting there mumbling swears under his breath and glaring at the screen but it just makes him play that much smarter
  • Like he stops and takes a second to consider his strategy
  • Does he really want to just charge in there without any ways to heal up or does he want to go all the way back and get something anything that can him an extra boost
  • Does he want to wait until he can get a better weapon??
  • Is he just gonna say fuck it and run in and count on skill and speed rather than force
  • He would be a very skilled gamer though
  • Like he seems more like a Seamus (ssohpkc) or like a Gopher type
  • Like they actually know what they’re doing, they know how the game works
  • I think the actual games he plays would vary depending on his mood
  • I can see him being into more story based games though
  • Like he of course plays games that are more about your skills and are more about how fast you can take down the enemy or how long you can survive
  • I can honestly see him playing a Telltale game
  • Like something that has major decisions and is really story based
  • Also lowkey just want to see him play one of the Soul games just to see it
  • I feel like he could handle it though
  • I also feel like he’d be into the pixel horror games
  • Like Crooked Man or Witch’s House etc.
  • I could see him playing those and getting really into it
  • He always tries to get the best ending
  • He’d also bring in some Korean games
  • He’d be happy to introduce his viewers to them like he’d play a mix of games from his childhood or recent games
  • He would be okay with having you in a couple of videos
  • Jungkook seems to be more of a private person when it comes to things like relationships and I can’t see him being as open with it as Tae or Jimin would where they’d want you in basically every video
  • But he would also be okay with showing everyone who was always in the background asking him if he wanted takeout or shouting out an “I’m home”
  • You’d both be chilling out in your pajamas and he’d set everything up
  • If you didn’t play often, he would give you the basics like this is the sprint button this is the attack this is dodge
  • He’d probably find it cute if you couldn’t play tbh
  • Like whenever you accidentally ran into something instead of blocking it he’d just snicker
  • But if you could play he’d love the challenge of seeing if he could win or not
  • He’d find it pretty damn cool if you could like if you won he’d kinda have this moment of whoa
  • He’d just look at you with wide eyes and you can see like a bit of awe and love in them bc did that really just happen you’re amazing I mean we obviously have to have a rematch bc I don’t do losing no matter what but damn
  • He’d let you pick the game bc “you’re the guest here babe”
  • Honestly it didn’t even matter who won or lost bc he’s just happy he gets to spend his time with his two favorites
  • But of course he would want to win this is Jungkook
  • He wouldn’t be like a sore loser about it but he’s definitely going to be a bit whiny off camera mainly to get your attention
  • Youtuber!Jungkook is a v v dedicated person who just wants the best content for his viewers and is constantly thanking them for their support and is just very grateful for being able to do what he does
