The Wakandan Royal Portrait offers clues to the dangers within the fictional nation

T’CHALLA

“What makes him different from other superheroes first and foremost is he doesn’t see himself as a superhero,” says director and co-writer Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station, Creed). “He sees himself as a politician. That’s the first thing on his mind when he wakes up in the morning. ‘How am I going to fulfill my duties as king of this place?’”

That means not just fighting external foes, but keeping the citizens of his nation happy. He’s a king, but not a tyrant. And Wakandans don’t speak with only one voice. There are many political factions, many clashing points of view. Some are ready for revolution. Some are being pushed.

“He has to keep harmony between the tribes within his country, and that means managing expectations and doing things that are unpopular,” Coogler says. “At the same time, he is the protector of that nation.”

RAMONDA

Angela Bassett costars as Ramonda, once the queen, now the mother of the king.

“She is one of the advisors that he would look to,” Boseman says. “He has to look to her for some of the answers of what his father might want or might do. She may not be exactly right all the time, but she definitely has insights. She is the queen mother. And she’s that for not just him, but for everybody.”

Bozeman laughs. “She’s has her hands in everything — even his love life.”

NAKIA

“The one thing I will say about all the female characters in this movie is that they are very strong,” Boseman says. “It’s a very matriarchal society.”

One of them is Wakanda’s undercover operative Nakia, played by 12 Years a SlaveOscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o. She may actually be the closest thing to 007 in this movie, and she’s a former lover of T’Challa’s.

“She is a departure from what she was in the comic book,” Nyong’o says. “Nakia is a war dog. She is basically an undercover spy for Wakanda. Her job is to go out into the world and report back on what’s going on.”

She also boasts some unique weaponry. “We call them her ring blades,” says Moore. “The ones Lupita carries while in the green outfit are based on traditional African weaponry. However, she does get a hi-tech upgrade later in the film, compliments of Shuri.”

SHURI

Letitia Wright plays T’Challa’s kid sister, who is no one you want to face in battle either. “She is also a genius and runs the entire Wakandan design group,” says producer Kevin Feige, whose also president of Marvel Studios and one of the chief architects of its interlocked universe. “She’s responsible for all these amazing technological advances that Vibranium has brought about from Wakanda.”

Here she is pictured with twin, panther-shaped weapons. It’s not clear yet what they do exactly, but it probably hurts.

OKOYE

She’s not technically family, but she’s just as close. This character played by The Walking Dead‘s Danai Gurira is the head of the Dora Milaje, the all-female special soldiers unit that protects the kingdom (and the king) from harm.

“They are a very powerful force,” she says. “They are not utopic, but what Wakanda has down well is it has allowed people to function within their strengths. These women, their strength is to preserve Wakanda. It’s more like the secret service in a sense that it’s not just military. She is head of intel.”

Okoye has guilt over the death of the previous king, and she’s generally a stoic presence. But she’s not unfeeling. “She can be serious, but she also has an unexpected sense of humor,” Gurira says. “She has a heart, but for her country and for her people. She’s not a person who doesn’t connect to human beings as a result of what she does.”

ERIK KILLMONGER

There is an enemy in this portrait.

In the comics, he was once a Wakandan known as N’Jadaka, but he took on this “death-dealing” nom de guerre when he became a dissident, then an exile, from his homeland.

Michael B. Jordan’s character is one of the antagonists of the film, allied with the mercenary Ulysses Klaue (Andy Serkis, reprising his role from Avengers: Age of Ultron), an arms dealer who has plundered Vibranium before and plans to do it again. He’s addicted.

In The Godfather terms, Killmonger has sided with this outsider against “the family,” his brothers and sisters of Wakanda. “I think Killmonger has his own opinion on how Wakanda has been run and should run, and what I think Michael brings to the table is sort of a charming antagonist, who doesn’t agree with how T’Challa is running things, frankly,” says Moore. “I think that puts T’Challa in a difficult situation. Killmonger is a voice of a different side of Wakanda.”

W’KABI

Get Out star Daniel Kaluuya plays T’Challa’s best friend, who is also a member of one of the most vital groups in the nation. “W’Kabi is the head of security for the Border Tribe,” says Moore. “They live on the borders of Wakanda and serve as the first line of defense for the country.”

In other words, he helps maintain the disguise that Wakanda is just mines, farms, and woods.

“To outsiders they appear to be what people would ‘expect’ of a small provincial African nation – but the truth is they are some of the fiercest warriors in Wakanda, intent on protecting the secrets of their advanced nation at all costs,” Moore says.

Now that T’Challa is king, he asks W’Kabi to join him as a palace advisor.

ZURI

Another vital voice of reason for the young king is Forest Whitaker’s shaman, a longtime advisor to T’Challa’s father and the keeper of the Heart-Shaped Herb, a plant that grows only in Wakanda and absorbs the Vibranium-rich minerals. When consumed, it gives the new leader superhuman strength. (But in the comics, it only works on members of the royal bloodline.)

“He’s somewhat a religious figure or spiritual figure,” Coogler says of Zuri. “Spirituality is something that exists in Wakanda in the comics, and it’s something we wanted to have elements of in the film. Forest’s character, more than anything, is a major tie-back to T’Challa’s father. Zuri is someone he looks to for guidance.”

As wondrous as Wakanda seems, it can also be treacherous. For all the talk of honor in The Godfather, the families were compulsively driven to destroy each other. 007 may venture to the most beautiful places (and people) on Earth, but there’s always a villain determined to wipe those places off the map. If Black Panther owes thematic inspiration to those predecessors, the danger comes hand in hand with the beauty.

But that’s where the similarities will end. When the Marvel Studios movie debuts Feb. 16, the story will remain on Earth, but its creators pledge to take fans to a world they’ve never seen before nonetheless.

“I don’t think people are prepared for what this movie is going to be,” says Feige. “Not just Black Panther, but the Dora Milaje, and Killmonger, and the entire design of Wakanda – both its traditional African-inspired elements, but also the Vibranium inspired techno-elements. I can’t think of a blend that has happened like that before in movies.”

There’s only one Black Panther, after all.

No matter who wants to lay claim to his throne.

do you guys ever think about how yuri plisetsky, at just age fifteen, has apparently been supporting his family through his figure skating via government grants which means not only does he have to regularly compete, but he always has to do well and to consistently perform, so he’s probably never allowed to have an off performance or it means less money, less support, less opportunities, and when victor nikiforov himself, five time world champion, offers to choreograph a program for him, yuri jumps at the chance because yes, think of how much he could get if he won his very first grand prix series off of victor’s choreography – think of his ailing grandfather whom he loves so much, an absentee mother – figure skating is everything to yuri, it’s the only thing he thinks he has to offer, it’s the thing he relies on the most for emotional and financial support, this is the opportunity of a lifetime. so he throws everything onto the ice, wins the junior championship just as victor said, and now he’s about to make his pro senior debut and he’s gonna get victor to make good on his promise and–

victor just… disappears. flies across the world, completely forgets he ever promised yuri anything, turns around and blatantly uses yuri while making it clear that beyond a week’s worth of coaching him on a program, victor has no intentions of giving yuri anything bc he’s so wrapped up in yuuri

and yuri feels – abandoned, betrayed, hurt; left behind again like he always is, left waiting like he always is, used as a means to an end; is it any wonder he’s pissed off? but then this beautiful, brilliant boy takes a program he only spent a week learning from its choreographer – he takes that program, refines it, improves it and breaks victor’s world record with it, slaps victor in the face with it by winning over yuuri and telling him, victor nikiforov is dead, victor isn’t everything yuri had thought he would be and it doesn’t matter bc yuri will make himself, define himself, choose things for himself now.

do you ever think about this bc i do and it hurts me but i love this boy so much, he deserves everything

Dean - Cas chemistry

So, after this post by @margarittet we and @destielonfire were discussing the chemistry and I wanted to note other non-chemistry versions of these two as a direct comparison to the real, acted, directed and scripted chemistry between Dean and Cas.

Dean - Cas: ultimate chemistry. Lust and passion turns to love and devotion and #married by season 12.

Of course Dean - Jimmy: As @margarittet says, zero sexual / romantic chemistry here, especially from Misha, the guy is such a brilliant actor.

Dean - Emmanuel: Dean has all the angst written all over his face throughout the whole episode, knowing it’s not really Cas, he does have some chemistry towards Cas though it’s not ‘I wanna bang you’ its ‘I want Cas back’ (same as some of the later Crazy!Cas). Misha plays Cas with ZERO chemistry with Dean, until he is Cas again. It’s brilliantly done…

Dean - Crazy!Cas: Dean’s face before he realises Cas isn’t himself:

Dean - Crazy!Cas when he realises he isn’t his Cas: Zilch (except for the ‘I just want my Cas back’ looks) until 8x01 when he’s Cas again.

Cas has zero chemistry with Dean, UNTIL he spends a little time with him, gets to know him again and by the end he offers to go with him even though he said he wouldn’t… it’s not quite falling in love all over again but it does show that in a way, any version of Cas will end up choosing Dean, its so poetic and @margarittet and I are trying desperately to remember as there has to be a story out there with parallel universes, a romantic story throughout the worlds where no matter what version of a person they always fall for the other, I just can’t remember what it is! Anyway, this is probably very relevant for season 13.

Dean - Casifer: Zero chemistry, just pure hatred and resolution.

UNTIL IT’S CAS again….

This needs no explanation. Jensen’s acting is a gift.

Cas - MoC!Dean: As Dean descends into the mark, the chemistry only comes out when Dean is really DEAN and clearly escaping the mark’s influence such as the burger date:

Otherwise Cas is generally pretty cold, it’s like he can feel Dean’s soul is not the same. Jensen generally acts Dean pretty cold towards Cas (and Sam of course) unless Dean is having a real DEAN moment in the middle of it all.

eg. 9x22: Cas has literally just given up his whole army for Dean, yet although Dean is softer with Cas than even with Sam, he is still nowhere near normal Dean levels of chemistry with Cas here:

Meanwhile Cas is desperately trying to save him but the chemistry is not the same, all the way until 11x01, when it is back over the phone and 11x03 back in person with a bang:

Anyway basically yeah, it’s not just Cockles, it’s on purpose specifically between Dean and Cas and this is no accident.

Love this moment.

It’s almost like she knows J is in that helicopter coming to get her and she’s looking at the Squad thinking, “Yeah, you and I can handle them easy.”

This little moment subtly reminds the audience that they are a team and that Harley is only there to get back with her puddin. Really does show what Harley is willing do to, willing to betray, to get back to Mistah J.

Bonus:

Joker’s thinking, “HEY, BABY! DADDY’S HERE AND READY TO GET ON THAT BEAR SKIN RUG WITH YOU!”

The Domestic Garden Witch: Hangin’ Out

So maybe you’re a college witch with limited space and money, limited to the one window in your dorm. Or, maybe you’re a witch without extensive backyard space who wants to start up a magical garden. Perhaps you’re a kitchen witch who wants the freshest herbs right at her fingertips.

For many witches, having a garden seems to be a bit of a no-brainer. After all, plants and magic go hand-in-hand. Plus, when thinking of a witch, it’s hard not to think of a cottage in the woods with a little vegetable garden out front. Unfortunately for the majority of us, our cottage in the woods is a tiny flat, and our garden out front is a windowsill with limited space.

This is when it comes time to embrace your craftiness and bring your garden indoors! Not only does it place your garden in a convenient location, it also allows you to freshen the air, recycle what would otherwise harm the earth, and embrace your witchy green thumb!

Another Indoor Succulent Garden, Josh?

Yeah, yeah, it’s another succulent garden. Bite me. But this goes to show how easy and inexpensive succulents are, frankly! They’re an ideal type of garden for those on a budget or who are limited on time and space. In fact, I’ve often said to my boyfriend (who claims that he has no green thumb whatsoever) that the only way to not have a green thumb is to end up killing succulents. Especially since they’re low maintenance.

I’ve always had a love for hanging gardens. I’m not entirely sure why, but somehow, they always bring a bit of life to a garden. Perhaps it’s because it’s a great way of simulating a three-dimensional landscape in a world where everything is either standing or flat, or perhaps its just the fact that it’s refreshing to see green at or above eye level. Regardless, this project is a great weekend craft for the college witch who wants to bring some magic into his or her home.

Unlike our previous container gardens, this is one that generally has to be crafted from scratch or with a starter frame. A frame can easily be any wooden picture frame, or you can create your own if you’ve access to power tools.

1. Place the frame front-side down. On the back, fasten a wire mesh (such as chicken wire) to the inner edges to cover the opening of the frame. Around the edges of that opening, fasten strips of wood, about a quarter-inch thick, to provide depth to the opening. Then, seal all of that up with a flat board of wood. What you should end up with is a frame with some depth, like a shadowbox frame, with a wire mesh where the picture would usually be.

2. If desired, now would be the time to paint your frame.

3. Once the frame is dry, lay it backside down. Add moist potting mix through the mesh and into the box. Continue doing so until it is packed down and won’t fall out of the box.

4. Take some cuttings and begin planting them in the soil through the wire mesh. If needed, cut the wire mesh to accommodate some larger cuttings. Continue doing so until the wire mesh and soil are mostly covered. Spray with water and carefully hang in an area that receives plenty of light.

Magic In the Wood

Our previous container magicks have taken a look at metal, seashells, and even the magic of recycled items. But it would be a shame if I were to miss the magic that wood can bring to a container garden. After all, there are entire traditions of magic that focus on different woods and trees (those who participate in druidry definitely would know this, especially as Ogham places particular emphasis on trees and wood).

In working with container gardens, the wooden planter box is usually an easy go-to for buying or building, but the type of wood is usually overlooked. Every time my family built a planter box, the only concern was that it was a hardwood (that way it didn’t rot quickly, and could stand up to the weather and usage). But different trees embody different aspects of magic. So from a witchy standpoint, we can add to the magic of our gardens if we incorporate that into our container gardens!

Now keep in mind that these are going to be general correspondences and descriptions. Depending upon where you live, a tree or wood may have different characteristics (for instance, hawthorn may be linked specifically to magic and protection in Europe, but here in California, the oak is usually more linked to that).

First is the usual hardwood here in California: redwood. Sturdy, tough, and depending on the source, often a rather beautiful reddish pink color, redwood is an easy go-to. Typically, redwood or sequoia can be linked to wisdom, protection, stability, and strength.

Pine is another frequent go-to. Though its color isn’t as striking, it’s qualities of protection, wisdom, prosperity, and strong association with life are great qualities to implement in a garden.

Oak varies from place to place, and from species to species. Here on California’s Central Coast, it’s hard to go too far without seeing a Coast Live Oak, which grows easily here and has a strong feeling about it that makes it seem that it’s constantly watching and constantly protecting. Oaks are nearly always linked with wisdom, and in some cases are so strongly linked to magic that they merge with magical characters (no joke… in some stories about Merlin, he became an oak tree upon his death). Regardless, oak brings protection, wisdom, knowledge, and masculine energies to one’s garden!

Birch is easily recognizable for it’s lightly colored wood, and for its bright white bark. But while it makes for a sturdy wood, it can also reflect aspects of flexibility. For this reason, it can be used in making a box that will encourage adaptation, creativity, and intuition in your garden.

Those are only four examples, and are some of the easiest woods to get a hold of in your local hardware store. Consider the type of wood you’re using when creating a planter. What aspects does it represent for you? And how can you bring its magic into your garden?

May all your harvests be bountiful! )O(

virgo sun/moon: “beyond the lights” (never feeling good enough. a mother who compulsively criticizes her. the theme of ~what happens behind the scenes~ and going back to the basics)“short term 12″ (wants to service everyone else but forgets about themselves), “the intern” (an observant elderly man is methodized and eager to work, always there for advice & support), “as good as it gets” (a bitter man who struggles with OCD overcoming his fears and unleashing his compassionate side)

libra sun/moon: “legally blonde” (a bit superficial. values doing the right thing. people think she’s air-headed but is actually more ‘in the know’ than given credit for)“can’t buy me love” (getting caught up in the popular crowd. pretending to be something you’re not), “he’s just not that into you” (most confusing movie ever. literally nobody can make up their mind lmao)

capricorn sun/moon: “uptown girls” (learning to adult from a surprisingly mature child. a mother who is too concerned with her career to pay attention to her daughter), “the pursuit of happyness” (suffering hardships, feeling down & out as he climbs his way up the totem pole. a tale of being a father being able to provide), “the devil wears prada” (another tale of climbing your way to the top, along with the cost of it)

aquarius sun/moon: “scott pilgrim vs the world” (not your average film, includes an alternate dimension. has its technological, futuristic quirks. becoming superior to the rest and standing out in the process), “mona lisa smile” (50′s women gaining new perspective from a ‘subversive’ professor), “the martian” (innovative, humorously noble, feeling castaway, ‘space pirate’)

pisces sun/moon: “the imaginarium of doctor parnassus” (a fantasy world with a damsel in distress but everything isn’t as it seems),  “because i said so” (milly is bright-eyed and a bit hopeless. her mother pays favor to her. always ends up doing what other people want because although she is highly spirited, she can be a pushover), “amelie” (imagination, imagination, imagination. sets out to help others by being a bit manipulative in the process), “big fish” (reality vs fantasy. idealized & exaggerated upbringing)

cancer venus: “closer” (kind of shows more unhealthy traits of this placement but shows they just want to be in comfort with you but can guilt trip people and ask for reassurance where its not needed), “a walk to remember” (two lovers jaded in their own right find love. trying to protect one another from getting hurt and hurt each other in the process), “brooklyn” (building a life together. choosing between a lover at home or a home within a lover)

sagittarius venus: “begin again” (greta is independent, blunt, and spontaneous. teaches dan and his daughter a few important lessons. love is a learning experience), “definitely, maybe” (flashbacks to 3 romances, all with women who either write, travel, and/or simply free-spirited. habits of running away. being judgemental of how to live life. expanding horizons. shamelessly honest), “they came together” (clumsy, a straight up mess. light-hearted. mocks romance films)

capricorn venus: “timer” (doesn’t see the point of a relationship if they aren’t ‘guaranteed’. uses a timer to tell you when you’ll find your soul mate)“meet my valentine” (a family man who finds out he’s terminally ill is determined to find a loving provider to replace him), “before sunset” (an assertive romance, at times a bit cynical, but cheeky and loving)

action/drama films based on mars

aries mars: “death proof” (daredevil central. going toe-to-toe with a killer), “crank” (a film literally about keeping your heart rate up. will die without an adrenaline rush), “spring breakers” (living in the moment. playfully deviant and childishly so), “the challenger” (learning to fight for what’s worth it; choosing your battles)

taurus mars: “matilda” (all the antagonists were greedy slobs who put themselves on a pedestal by making everyone else feel inferior), “the shawshank redemption” (avoids conflict, plays his hand slowly, no stranger to money), “american hustle” (luxuriating in ‘sin’, glorifying the hustle, high-resistance characters)

gemini mars: “pirates of the caribbean” (jack sparrow is a character that’s easy to be allured to but difficult to trust. never seems to be who he appears and covers everything up with slurred antics), “seven psychopaths” (comical murder film where even has a darker or lighter side than you thought), “the prestige” (two illusionists go head to head to out-trick another. the huge secret of ‘duality’)

cancer mars: “punch-drunk love” (stereotypical ‘nice’ guy with a lot of problems and insecurities. falls into a weird blackmail ploy), “mad max: fury road” (emotionally raw. recklessly protective. driven by the familial and home), “mr nobody” (recounting of memories. driven by pure emotion)

leo mars: “hot rod” (acts like a big shot, always attempting to prove himself worthy), “guardians of the galaxy” (everyone has a major ego and wants to show off. music reminds me of the 80′s which reminds me of hair which is leo lmao), “frank” (i feel like many would believe this to be a more aquarius film with its long-standing reputation of being one of the most unconventional films of all time but the film is about fame, how to get there, how to stand out, and being histrionic in the making)

virgo mars: “pay it forward” (actions geared toward helping others, insecurities and not wanting others to feel sorry, a need for efficiency), “captain america: the first avenger” (modest, just wants to contribute. high energy, lots of stamina ‘i could do this all day’), “cyberbully” (theme of words cutting deeper than you’d think)

libra mars: “mean girls” (acts nice & unassuming only to better manipulate a situation), “gangster squad” (puts justice into their own hands. has people in pocket and knows how to work a room to use people to one’s disposal), “v for vendetta” (another film of putting justice into your own hands. created a tragic scenario to trick evey into learning no matter what one goes through, the right thing to do is the only appropriate way to live)

scorpio mars: “heathers” (conniving & hypocritical. veronica isn’t a saint herself but disproves of people who are cruel and sets out to teach them a lesson), “mr & mrs smith” (secretive. both know they’re spies but never tell each other & don’t feel neither has the right to be; in the same field of work but criticize each other for it), “django unchained” (rescue and revenge. will exploit anything or murder anyone to get back to his lover)

sagittarius mars: “maidentrip” (a young adventuress sails across the world)“artifact” (documentary film giving insight into the truth of the music industry. pretentious, pseudo-intellectuals), “the believer” (heavily controversial film. audacious in the name of beliefs and what one believes to hold verity)

capricorn mars: “erin brockovich” (a relentless environmental activist sets out a case against a gas company where their supplies have left residents fatally ill. demands respect), “whiplash” (pushes limits beyond limits. ambitious to the core and seeks to achieve aspirations continuously), “american psycho” (a successful banker has an alter, killer ego who relishes in all that he does & ‘achieves’)

aquarius mars: “the big lebowski” (acts above violence and just says ‘fuck it’ to everything), “equilibrium” (feelings are literally outlawed but an enforcer soon falls victim to rebellion), “terminator” (a cyborg on a mission. a young boy fighting against the technologically advanced)

pisces mars: “snowpiercer” (sacrifice, clairvoyance, spiritualism. as pete travers said, ‘a slambam sci-fi thriller with a brain, a heart and an artful sense of purpose’), “fight club” (gasp. shocking it isn’t aries mars, right? the story is about a man wanting to escape his everyday life, has an addictive personality, and finds himself immersed in this extracurricular activity), “philomena” & “of mind and music” (one defines true forgiveness. looking past all the tragedy and finding the beauty)

Remember, our line has always ruled with wisdom and strength. And I know you will show restraint when exercising your great power. But the truest victory, my son, is stirring the hearts of your people. I tell you this, for when my days have come to an end, you shall be King

The Spirit Death/ Initiation

Traditions from all over the world hold that the person who wields supernatural power must first be initiated.
But that word has changed since those times.
Today, most view initiation as some dusty set of rituals. But that’s not what it was then, and that’s not it is now for traditional witches.
It’s death.
It’s destruction of the old self to make way for the new.
It’s sickness and decay.
It’s the rotting flesh made bare for the young animals to eat.
Most know that it happens to shamans. You’ve heard the stories of sickness, depression, hallucinations, and lonesome.
It happens to witches too.
It is a difficult time referred to now as ‘Spirit Initiation’, though I’ve come to know it as “The Death” or “The Spirit Death”. The phenomena has been talked about at length and experienced by traditional witches. Its function is to destroy the old to make way for the new. It kills the old you and uses it for kindling to light the witch fire. It’s happened to many traditional witches before they found their way to the Crooked Path.
When people warn others that witchcraft could drive them mad, this is one of the things that they refer to. The destruction doesn’t promise you will return perfected. It’s been known to mess people up, leave them broken, or flat out destroy them.
Most of the time, these initiations are led by a particular spirit. For many traditional witches, it was and is the Dark Man. For others, the spirits of the land might do it, or their ancestors, or all of them together. In other traditions, the spirit of another magical person would lead them through this and pass on their knowledge.
The Death manifests itself in different forms and can change in intensity from witch to witch. For some, it’s a physical sickness. For others, it can be a long bout of depression. Sometimes it’s a series of horrific nightmares or hallucinations. Though it can be different for each witch, it’s always an unpleasant experience.
The Death only comes with one promise. If you begin it, you’ll never be the same again. The world will always look different and you’ll never be who you were before you began.
When you feel you’ve hit the end of the road and can go no further, though you want to learn more, that’s when The Death often comes.
It’s not something to be desired, but its results afterward are.

anonymous asked:

So I need prompts for a conversation between a hero and a villain, the hero got captured by the villain. They have feelings for each other so it's a pretty emotional conversation. Do you have any ideas?

1) “Are you hungry?” The villain asked.
“You’re seriously going to do the cliche force your enemies to dinner thing?”
“We’re not enemies, at least, we don’t have to be.” The concern on the villain’s face was unbearable. “When was the last time you ate? You’re much too thin.”

2) “Tell me you don’t love me. Please.”

3) “Please don’t do this,” the hero said. “I’ll do anything.”
“I know. That’s precisely why I need you to stay safely put here.”

4) “You love me.”
“Of course I love you, as if that was ever the problem here.”

5) “I suppose you’re going to kill me now, or torture me for information.”
“I suppose you’re going to make me - you know hurting you is not what I want.”

6) “You have to let me go.”
“I don’t have to do anything for you anymore.”

7) “I wish I’d never fallen in love with you.”

8) “You’re not going to hurt me, you love me.” It was the first time either of them had admitted the truth aloud, and it hung heavy between them.
The villain sighed and kissed the hero’s forehead. “You should know its always the ones we love who we end up hurting the most.”

9) “I want to give you the opportunity to leave, take those friends of yours. Go. I won’t hunt you. Don’t ever come back.”
“I can’t do that.”

10) “I’d rather die than live in the kind of world you want to create.”
“Why do you imagine I’ve been trying so hard to kill you?”

11) “You’ve changed.”
“People do that. It’s been a long time.”

12) “I loved you, once.”
“You still do, it’s why you fight me so hard. You don’t care about them. But god,” the villain leaned in close. “You will never forgive yourself for not seeing this coming.”

13) “I wanted so badly to save you from this.”
“You made me this, you were suffocating me!”

14) “Oh the guilt of loving a monster, how do you stand it?”
“You’re not a monster.”

15) “Oh why do you always do this to yourself? Don’t worry, I’ll look after you now.”

Peter Parker x Shy/Scared Reader

Summary: Even though Peter’s been busy with saving the world, you’ve been feeling neglected and unwanted. He notices and decides to do something fun to cheer you up.

Word Count: 2,453 (my longest one so far, holla)

Warnings: heights, panic attack, language, fluff, sad stuff. Let me know if I missed any.

A/N: Alrrright guys, hopefully this turns out okay. I was thinking about making this into a series depending on how much you guys dig it. If you do, then I will post all about what I’m going to do for the series to see if you guys are interested. Sound good? As always, feedback is definitely appreciated. I never get any, so I don’t know what I’m doing wrong or right. Enjoy!

Ever since Peter told you he was the big ‘ol Spiderman, it felt like your guys’ weekly hangouts and movie nights were coming to an end. Of course you understand that he’s saving the world and stopping the bad guys, but it leaves you worried and afraid for his well being. He always seems distracted around you and it fills you with a darkness. Telling Peter would make you seem selfish, so you bury it, hoping it won’t poke its way through.

Being the shy, reserved, person you are, you definitely had difficulty talking to Peter, especially since you’ve always had a never ending crush on him. After a while of trying to ask him if he could hang out, you stopped. It wasn’t worth the pain of going through to only be rejected once again.

However, what you didn’t know was that Peter noticed you putting up your walls again. He didn’t want to lose you and decided he was definitely going to do something about it. Starting tonight

Top 10 Star Trek Planets Chosen by Our Scientists

What would happen if the crew of the Starship Enterprise handed over the controls to our scientists and engineers? It turns out many are avid Star Trek fans with lengthy itineraries in mind.

1. Vulcan

What is perhaps the most famous Star Trek planet was placed by creator Gene Roddenberry in a real star system: 40 Eridani. This trinary system of three dwarf stars, about 16 light-years from Earth, could play host to exoplanets; none have been detected there so far. The most massive is 40 Eridani A, chosen as Vulcan’s sun.

2. Andoria

An icy “M-class” (Star Trek’s term for “Earth-like”) moon of a much larger planet—a gas giant—that is home to soft-spoken humanoids with blue skin, white hair and stylish antennae. In our solar system, gas giants play host to icy moons, such as Jupiter’s Europa or Saturn’s Enceladus, that possess subsurface oceans locked inside shells of ice. Our missions are searching for lifeforms that might exist in these cold, dark habitats.

3. Risa

Another Trek M-class planet known for its engineered tropical climate and its welcoming humanoid population.  The planet is said to orbit a binary, or double, star system—in Star Trek fan lore, Epsilon Ceti, a real star system some 79 light-years from Earth. The first discovery of a planet around a binary was Kepler-16b, which is cold, gaseous and Saturn-sized.

4. “Shore Leave” planet, Omicron Delta region

This is another amusement park of a planet, where outlandish characters are manufactured in underground factories straight from the crew members’ imaginations. In real life, astronauts aboard the International Space Station print out plastic tools and containers with their own 3-D printer.

5. Nibiru

“Star Trek: Into Darkness” finds Captain Kirk and Dr. McCoy fleeing from chalk-skinned aliens through a red jungle. Red or even black vegetation could exist on real planets that orbit cooler, redder stars, an adaptation meant to gather as much light for photosynthesis as possible. An example may be Kepler-186f, a planet only 10 percent larger than Earth in diameter. At high noon, the surface of this planet would look something like dusk on Earth.

6. Wolf 359

A star best known in the Star Trek universe as the site of a fierce battle in which a multitude of “Star Trek: Next Generation” ships are defeated by the Borg. But Wolf 359 is a real star, one of the closest to Earth at a distance of 7.8 light-years. Wolf 359 is also a likely observational target for the Kepler space telescope in the upcoming Campaign 14 of its “K2” mission.

7. Eminiar VII/Vendikar

These two planets are neighbors, sharing a star system. So, of course, they’ve been at war for centuries. While we have no signs of interplanetary war, multiple rocky worlds have been discovered orbiting single stars. A cool dwarf star called TRAPPIST-1 is orbited by three Earth-size planets; two have a chance of being the right temperature for liquid water, with possible Earth-like atmospheres.

8. Remus

The planets Romulus and Remus are home to the Romulan Empire (ancient Rome, anyone?), although Remus seemed to have gotten the raw end of the deal. Remus is tidally locked, one face always turned to its star. Tidally locked worlds might well be a real thing, with many possible candidates discovered with our Kepler space telescope. The habitable portion of the surface of such planets might be confined to a band between the day and night sides called the “terminator zone”—a.k.a. the twilight zone.

9. Janus VI

A rocky world lacking an atmosphere, perhaps similar to Mars. While humans must maintain an artificial underground environment to survive, the innards of the planet are a comfortable home to an alien species known as the “Horta.” Their rock-like biochemistry is based on silicon, rather than carbon, inspiring us to imagine the many forms life might take in the universe.

10. Earth

In the Star Trek universe, Earth is home to Starfleet Headquarters; the real Earth is, at least so far, the only life-bearing world we know. No true Earth analogs have been discovered among the real exoplanets detected so far. But a new generation of space telescopes, designed to capture direct images of exoplanets in Earth’s size range, might one day reveal an alternative “pale blue dot.”

saltsower  asked:

Hey, what are some of your favorite tabletop RPGs?

Hoo, boy - that’s a tough one!

Well, first off, I’m not too much of a gaming hipster to put Dungeons & Dragons on my list. I wouldn’t pick out any one edition as a clear favourite; I appreciate both OD&D and 4th Edition for the focus and rigour of their mechanical design, for all that they’re aiming at very different design goals, 2nd Edition is my favourite for setting fluff and general high weirdness, and I admire 3rd Edition’s purity of purpose, if not always its actual execution. I imagine I’ll even come around on 5th Edition, once it finally decides what sort of game it’s trying to be.

Beyond D&D, I’m not much of a fan of many big-name titles - I never said I wasn’t a gaming hipster at all! - so it’s mostly high-concept indie stuff from here on out. This shouldn’t be taken as any sort of top ten; they’re merely the first ten that sprang readily to mind. Here we go:

  • Among the Beautiful Creatures (direct PDF link) - A playtest draft of an unreleased game about a world that’s perpetually ending, populated entirely by shapeshifting monsters who resemble nothing so much as Muppets. Picture Jim Henson does Fritz Leiber and you’ll be in the right ballpark. (Content warning for graphic descriptions of child abuse, including in the introductory fiction.)

  • Chuubo’s Marvelous Wish-Granting Engine - A game about young gods growing up in a pastoral small town. The core system is a downright fascinating piece of game design, basically taking the idea of XP rewards for roleplaying and driving it to its logical-yet-absurd conclusion: quests take the form of specific character development arcs, which you advance by invoking appropriate tropes and story beats. Conflict resolution uses a combination of blind bidding and semantic arguments (yes, really!).

  • The Dance and the Dawn - A narrative game for 3-5 players who take on the roles of the Ladies of Ash, come to the crumbling palace of the Ice Queen to court the enigmatic Lords of Ice. (Or ladies, if you prefer; the default setup is admittedly a bit heteronormative, but there’s nothing that actually demands the Lords of Ice be men.) The game is diceless, with resolution employing pieces on a chess board.

  • Fate Accelerated Edition - Unless you’re totally new to the tabletop roleplaying hobby and/or you’ve been living under a rock for the past 20 years, you’ve probably heard of FATE. FAE is a super-lightweight version of the game, perfect for casual or pick-up-and-play games. By default, it’s focused on YA fantasy adventures, though there are expansion packs available that adapt it for everything from giant robots to competitive cooking to a tabletop adaptation of Jean-Paul Sartre’s No Exit - and no, I’m not making that last one up.

  • Lady Blackbird - A fantasy space opera game that’s a true masterclass in minimalist design. The entirety of the basic core rules fit on your character sheet, so everything you might need to reference as a player is right there. The book is a game and adventure in one, with the default scenario revolving around helping the eponymous Lady Blackbird (who can be a player character, if you want) escape from an arranged marriage and meet up with a notorious pirate lord.

  • Nobilis - A companion game to Chuubo’s (see above), this is a much higher-powered iteration of the same basic idea, focusing less on heartwarming small town life and more on punching the Sun. It’s in the running for the RPG with the most descriptively high-powered player characters; a correctly built starting PC is capable of performing miracles that affect the entire observable universe, and matters only escalate from there.

  • Ryuutama: Natural Fantasy Roleplay - A localised Japanese game about people going on overland journeys; think Oregon Trail by way of Hayao Miyazaki. Fairly old-school in its design sensibilities; if you’re a D&D fan, you’ll find a lot that’s familiar here, along with a lot that’s not. The GM is an actual character within the game, taking the form of an invisible dragon who watches over and guides the party’s travels.

  • The Shab-al-Hiri Roach - A competitive, GMless game of campus politics in a small New England university town. The twist is that any given character may or may not be possessed by an evil brain-sucking cockroach from the dawn of time; if you’ve got the roach, you’ll occasionally be subject to irresistible telepathic commands, represented by randomly drawn cards written in ancient Sumerian (with English subtitles, of course).

  • Valley of Eternity - A game in the classic swords and sorcery mould, focusing on gritty adventure in an unforgiving wilderness. Players take on the roles of outcast warrior-philosophers, sworn to defend the very communities that shun them, both through strength of arms and with the aid of esoteric mental disciplines that allow them to craft cunning illusions, manipulate objects from afar, or even imprison enemies within their own minds. Also, all playable characters are penguins.

  • Wisher, Theurgist, Fatalist (direct PDF link) - When folks talk about tabletop RPGs that are so high concept they’re barely playable, this is what they mean. Player characters inhabit a world that does not, properly speaking, exist, and it’s their responsibility to bring it into being. Includes rules for players declaring setting details, inventing new game mechanics on the spot, and even deposing the GM and taking her place!

Other favourites that didn’t get full descriptions only on account of I didn’t think of them first include Blades in the Dark, Blue Rose, Danger Patrol, Die For You, Dogs in the Vineyard, The Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Munchausen, Feng Shui, Golden Sky Stories, Hero Kids, Itras By, Lords of Gossamer and Shadow, Paranoia, Perfect (Unrevised), Pokéthulhu, Risus, Sufficiently Advanced, Tenra Bansho Zero, Traveller, and Unknown Armies; I’ve included links to previous recommendation posts where the game in question is discussed, if available.

Wouldn’t it be something if this show lasted 6+ years and the writers explored all of our favorite ships. Like season 1 would be Bughead and this journalistic fairytale would burn and then flicker out like a well lit flame, but still a flame can’t last forever.

Then season 2 could be Beronica and they would go on all these fantastic dates and learn so many things about themselves that these two best friends never would have thought possible. They will refine what girl power means. And this too will end. But these girls won’t be shattered by it. No, it will have fused in them a bond so strong that together or not, cannot be broken.

Season 3 or 4 would be Barchie. Betty and Archie finally coming to terms with their feelings for each other, exploring a child’s dream of love and letting it consume them. And when it ends, it won’t be because it didn’t work out, because it did, effortlessly. But because there is a greater story to be told and greater love to come. I think a little Juronica could take place during this time too ;) a little wild and crazy fun for those two is definitely in the mix.

The season after this would be Jarchie. These two best friends admitting to themselves that this is something they have to try. It’s worth the risk, it’s worth the flame burning out. It’s worth all of it because after everything in their past, nothing else makes sense anymore. These two will fight for each other and let the chips fall where they may. And if it ends, it ends. And they’ll journey on as they always do.

And when the show comes to a close, in its final season, it won’t really matter who ends up with who. Or if none of them end up with each other. What matters will be the connection forged between these four friends and the way every moment shaped who they are and who they will become.

There will be boundaries broken, moments forever cherished, memories never forgotten and four lives fully lived. I’m here for these kids and their stories, their incomparable mark on this crazy world in this tiny town called…Riverdale.
