it's almost 3 am i had too much fun with this

Things I learned you’ll actually need for your dorm after one year of college that you probably won’t see on pinterest

So, I recently finished my first year at college (which was definitely an adventure, and probably one of the best years of my life so far) and I’ve made a few mistakes, but none that couldn’t be fixed. For example, I really didn’t do adequate research as to what I’ll actually need for my dorm room because I was too busy fantasizing how I was gonna diy decorate my dorm room into a pinterest masterpiece. Anyway, I quickly learned my lesson.

Basically, your dorm room isn’t just for display. You live there. It’s gonna get messy, it’s gonna have to store a lot of stuff, and you’re not always going to have time to keep it in pristine condition because life gets crazy. But you can deal with it, I promise, and for all the new freshman prepping for their first dorm experience, I want to give some advice on how you can be prepared for what college life actually hits you with.

Alright, so I actually ended up being in a triple (so I had two roommates) which meant I had even less space than the average broom-closet sized dorm room and I had two people I had to get along with. Thankfully, we all ended up being really close and very considerate of each other, and I am incredibly grateful for it. We learned our lessons together, and this is the list of stuff we came up with:

1. Vacuum: Get a real vacuum, maybe a cheap one (not like a crazy dyson), but a real one. Not just a handheld one (like we had) because it won’t be enough. Girls shed hair. A lot. (especially three long haired girls like us) People might accidentally spill a bag of powdered sugar on your rug, or you might rip open a bag of cereal a little too vigorously, or, more seriously, you might break something like glass and you don’t want anyone cutting open their foot on a shard.

2. Swiffer: If your floor was linoleum like ours (that’s why we needed a rug, which I’ll mention later), then it will get dusty and dirty. Having a swiffer is just nice to have because once you vacuum your rug clean, you don’t want the dirt on the linoleum getting on the rug. Plus, it’s gonna a rain and there’s gonna be mud. It’s gross.

3. Brita filter: So my dorm was actually the absolute best freshman dorm not just because the people were amazing, but because we had sinks. IN OUR ROOMS. It is just so CONVENIENT. Anyway, I am fully aware that not everyone is as lucky as us and the only sinks will be in the bathroom. A Brita filter pitcher is nice to keep in your fridge because you can have fresh clean in your room at any given moment.

4. Trash can: We had three in our room for each person but they kinda ended up being shared based on location in the room, but yeah. You need somewhere to throw away stuff.

5. Plastic bags or just garbage bags: And not only do you need a place to throw away stuff, you need plastic bags or garbage bags for clean disposal. And trash piles up real fast in your tiny room, so you’ll need to replenish these bags very often. I learned from my mom that you always have a place to store your plastic bags, and so we had a designated plastic bag drawer where we kept all the bags from our local campus convenience store, or the drug store, or wherever. Trust me, it’s saved lives. (as in, barf bags)

6. Command hooks: So we had to bunk two beds and loft another to have enough room and it’s kind of a pain in the ass to constantly climb down to throw something out so we had a trash bag hanging from a command hook on my roommate’s lofted bed and yeah. That bag has saved lives. (same situation as above) Plus, you can hang hats, bags, towels, little caddies for your toothbrush off of these hooks and it’s just so nice because you don’t lose things.

7. Clorox wipes: Again, stuff gets gross, and you’ll unfortunately need to clean things (ie your mom doesn’t clean everything for you anymore). Have two packs stored because you never know.

8. Dish soap: Real dishes need to be washed well, or else you’ll get sick.

9. Sponges: For the dish soap. And the dishes.

10. Windex: For our mirror, which we wrote on with washable marker, and I killed ants with it too.

11. Storage for food: Something airtight so bugs can’t get to it, like a trunk. We also had mice sometimes go into our vents. And then into people’s rooms. They’re looking for a warm place to hide, and food. Don’t leave food out is the lesson. But also have food in your room! Our room was well known to always have food and its really nice when you’re staying up late and everything is closed.

12. Tissues: Freshman plague is so real. You will most certainly get it, and probably several times too.

13. Vitamins and medicine: Your immune system is gonna get a work out in college. Help it out with some vitamin C tablets. Have some tylenol or advil for headaches and aches and pains. And side note, if you’re really sick, just go to the health center, you don’t have to suffer through it.

14. Slippers: Get a comfy, cheap pair (because sometimes dorm hallways are gross, especially on the weekends) that you can wear all around your building and still be comfy.

15. Power strip: So much stuff needs to be plugged in and you definitely won’t have enough outlets between you and your roommate(s).

16. Printer: Okay, this seems a little unreasonable, but we were lucky because my one roommate had a spare one at home (how though??) and I have frequently said it is my favorite thing in our room. It has come in clutch so many times. But if you have a campus printer near you, or if its too expensive, it’s fine not to have one. But if you do get one, I would recommend getting one that is NOT wireless. University wifi doesn’t like you using other wifi (ie it won’t work). Get a printer that has a cable.

17. Plastic plates and forks: We have real dishes and silverware too, but plastic stuff is just easier clean up.

18. Rug: I almost forgot about this one.The floor gets cold and a rug also makes a room feel homier. You and your friends are gonna sit there and bond all that fun stuff, and someone might even sleepover on it (if they have a sleeping bag).

19. Chairs: So we actually didn’t have any other chairs other than the ones that university gave us for our desks and those are okay and everything, but some of our friends had these amazing, foldable, springy chairs that were so comfortable and also a lot of fun, and I am definitely getting one for my room next year.

Other things you might need but might forget (maybe?):

Razors

Umbrella

Rain boots

Rain coat

Extra towels

Contact solution

Favorite mug

Tea

Stapler

Make up wipes

Facials

Lamp

Of course, this is not an exhaustive list, you’ll definitely need other things (like a fridge, microwave, sheets, pillows, decorations, etc), or see that you really don’t need some of the things I’ve mentioned. Honestly, do what you feel is best and good luck! I loved my first year at college! Like basically everyone, I had some trouble adjusting at first. I felt pretty lonely in the beginning too, but once you start going, things start to fall into place. I met some great people, had some great classes, and honestly, I’m going to miss my first year–even with all the excitement of being an upperclassman next semester.

I hope this helped and that you have just as great of an experience in your first year as I did–actually, even better!

This was teetering on dangerous now. For the umpteenth time, Daveed has woken up in bed next to you after yet another social gathering. It had started off simple, the chemistry was there and it was undeniable that you both wanted to jump each other’s bones so eventually Daveed made his move and was met with little resistance. The cycle became: have sex, rest for a few minutes, get dressed and then leave right after. The next time you guys ran into each other, it was like your friendship hadn’t changed and conversation flowed easily. Then one night you were too sore to get up and asked to stay the night, Daveed agreed not thinking much of it. You both settled into your halves of the bed and nodded off, you were gone before he woke up. Then things changed again.

You were both laying on your backs, panting hard with closed eyes. Daveed opened his first, looking over at you and admiring your skin as it glistened in the moonlight. He did a pretty good job tonight.

“I give it a 6 out of 10.” You spoke up, laughing at the offended look on Daveed’s face.

“Oh please! You had 2 orgasms!”

The types as how I (an ESTP) know them

Seen this around a lot, thought I’d do my own version.

I don’t know any ISFPs, so that type isn’t represented.

ISTJ- my lab coordinator- Gets off on organizing. Plans her future out to the T, but then a curveball hits and after about a day of freaking out she deals with it. Loves concerts, science, and cats. Organizes my life for me, and we get along very well.

ISFJ- research coworker- I don’t really know her well, but she is pretty quiet. Serious and focused, but not afraid to crack a smile here and there. Somehow remembers everyone’s birthdays despite only knowing us for two months. Also (I think) very scared of me.

INFJ- friend- I ADMIRE HER AESTHETIC SO MUCH. Seriously, this girl keeps it classy everywhere. Insta? She has a color coordinated layout. Snapchat? Only the most sophisticated snaps any 19 year old I know has every taken. Twitter? Barely touches it. Uses periods at the end of everything, which makes her sound SO COOL. Kinda wanna be her, kinda wanna be dating her.

INTJ- cousin- most driven person I know. Loves animals more than people. 100% left-brained, and the best person to go to for a logical opinion on anything. Butttt fucks up in her personal life a lot. Clingy as hell (but this is coming from an ESTP so take it with a grain of salt tbh)

ISTP- roommate- the most slytherin of all the slytherins. Super funny, sarcastic, and always down for an adventure. Weird obsession with Garfield. Watches the most TV out of anyone I know.

INFP- friend- the calmest voice EVER. The calmest person, really. A great listener, and always zen @ life. Brilliant at orgo. Surprisingly a very good rapper as well.

ESTP- myself and my friend- our version of an icebreaker is, “hey, wanna go skydiving?” Surprised when people say no to an adventure. Cannot sit in one place and study for more than 3 hours at a time without doing something crazy, like a push-up contest in the middle of the library, to keep our sanity.

ESFP- acquaintance- ok the first people to start any drama ever. Extra af but also great to talk to when you need to be extra af and rant/yell/complain/anything. Can go from ‘too cool for you’ to a literal puppy in five seconds.

ENFP- best friend- A PUPPY IN HUMAN FORM. Most scatterbrained person to exist. Multiple internships, research positions, volunteer obligations, etc. a week and somehow manages to do all of it and still be bored.

ESTJ- boyfriend- Secretly always in control, even when someone is in control. Has a backup plan for the backup plan. Fun and enthusiastic, but also kind of cautious and takes a step back before he jumps into anything.

ESFJ- best friend- literally follows through on everything she ever says. “I’m getting lunch with you sometime this week” you bet your ass she is going to schedule this lunch, plan it, color coordinate it in her journal, and show up five minutes early with the menu already looked over online. Pushes you to be the best version of yourself by calling you out on bs you didn’t even realize you had.

ENFJ- ex boyfriend- cheesy as hell. Loves anime, metal, and Bethoven. Most random, adaptable person I’ve yet to meet. Has a lot of feelings.

ENTJ- brother- Holds himself with a very naturally intelligent aura. Cares a lot about his reputation and how he appears. Very hardworking and smart. Can be demeaning or rude without realizing it. Bases his self worth on his academic achievements.

ENTP- friend- craziest life story I’ve ever heard. Came over my place after a car crash very casually like ‘yeah my car just got totalled but its whatever so i heard you had pizza’ like what???? Almost always awake at 4 AM and watching the Office. Great ideas, but not enough willpower to execute them.

INTP- friend- nerdiest person ever. Hates on himself way too much. Intelligent, funny, and sarcastic. Has a lot of emotions but doesn’t know what to do with them so ends up making stupid decisions with girls he likes and then ignoring that person forever.

Finn. wow. gonna steal my Golden Dick award. damn. a Momma has never been more proud. -Tanisha<3)

The car is quiet. Jun stirs imperceptibly, becoming aware of the silence from his earphones and a low murmuring voice from somewhere just behind him – are those Chinese words?

as a preds fan, i am extremely flattered, and here are some of the reasons why (if you’re a fan of one of these teams and wanna boost ur own ego by reading them all lmk):

  • Vegas: “everyone’s just happy; Ride Dick jokes”
    • “they’re not real yet”
    • “they just wanna have fun”
  • Boston: “Only ever really shit on Habs fans” (mood tbh)
  • Nashville: “The chants? Did you see the play off run, they were so hype.” (i KNOW!!!!!!)
    • “they all hate the blackhawks”
    • “not annoying. not pissbabies.”
    • “they’re not the pens”
    • “if all those people who bandwagon the preds had bandwagon the bruins i would’ve choked them but preds fans never choked me so i love them.” -ashley pbergeron
  • Colorado: “they’re just happy to be here i think”
    • “no shade but how are they gonna be rude with their record”
    • “their team is bad but they’re here for the softness”
    • “we’re all here to love gabe landeskog and tyson barrie”
    • “shamed into niceness”
  • columbus according to many u are amazingly friendly and chatty and more people should love u
    • “happy to be included tbh”
    • “they’re bros”
  • carolina everyone says you stay in your own lane and it’s appreciated
  • dallas everyone loves and supports you
  • “the flames because their uniform is red and red is my favorite color”
  • “ottawa is the nicest because they have no fans”
  • “montreal because they’re canadian”
  • “tampa calls half the roster daddy but that ain’t malicious and i ain’t judging”
  • “washington is nice and they hate the pens like me”

Worst Fanbase

I’m just gonna remind y'all that the commentary is NOT mine and that you best not be leaving hate in my ask bc tbh its not my problem if other people don’t like your team

less teams got votes for this one (which is good because it would suck if everyone was terrible)

  1. Chicago (47.7%, 115 votes)
  2. Pittsburgh (35.7%, 86 votes)
  3. Nashville (4.6%, 11 votes)
  4. Toronto (2.9%, 7 votes)
  5. Boston (2.5%, 6 votes)
  6. Anaheim (4 votes)
  7. Winnipeg, Washington, Philadelphia (2 votes)
  8. Ottawa, Montreal, Minnesota, Edmonton, Columbus, St Louis (1 vote)

ok tbh a lot of people put “self-explanatory” or “do i really have to explain” and A LOT of people said “i almost put chicago/pittsburgh but…” but here are some reasons why people hate these teams:

Chicago:

  • “It’s a bunch of rape apologists and people who excuse racism idk what else I could say on it”
  • “no one can match a Blackhawks fan’s persecution complex”
  • “They can’t stay in their fucking lane.”
  • “if i have to see another pk*ne stan in my life im deleting the entire nhl”
  • “In the kindest way possible, they’re dicks. They come to our home games, throw things at our fans, purposely starting fights. And they’re just obnoxious.”
  • “they always up in everyone else’s business and go out of their way to shit on other teams”
  • “One time a white Hawks fan try to tell me, a Native American individual, what I should and shouldn’t find offensive when it comes to Native American issues. They even went so far to use very vulgar expletives in their argument, which in normal circumstances I honestly wouldn’t care about, but I was trying to have a civil discussion and they were clearly too far up Chicago’s racist ass to show me an ounce of respect so. That was fun.” (Y I K E S)
  • “Absolutely trashed Amalie Arena, did not keep a family friendly attitude during public screenings, were antagonistic to Lightning fans whether they won or lost a game. Garbage.”

Pittsburgh:

  • “Entitled, turning into H*wks fans with the whole repeat cups thng. They’re the new “3 cups 5 years” shit.”
  • “They don’t understand that they aren’t the only team??? You can’t say one (1) maybe bad thing about any player with out them jumping on you.”
  • “Oh my god I hate Pens fans. Dear god. They don’t stop whining ever and constantly play the victim over everything, cause drama over nothing, and turn a blind eye to the shit their team pulls. Hawks fans are a close second on the “playing victim” front, but man, Pens fans are total bitches. 0/10. Probably not the Worst fanbase, but the ones I see the most of? Since I kind of block every single Hawk fan I see. Ahem.”
  • “bc they’re not the preds”
  • “obnoxious”
  • “some (not all) tend to be a little arrogant and rude but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯”
  • “everywhere, won’t leave you alone, can’t hide, WILL find you + harass you”
  • “win or lose, both online and in person, almost all of them are assholes and crybabies. they always come to my team’s stadium in mass and often start fights. I’ve seen a pen fan push someone down stadium stairs (the victim broke their wrist), I’ve seen one sucker punch someone, I’ve had some of them yell homophobic slurs at me as I walked by- and all of this was at Nationwide Arena. my friends in other fanbases have had similar expirences with them as well, they’re generally aweful people and I wish they would go the fuck away.” (THAT is bad. yikes.)
  • “They’re mean”
  • “Crosby eats jars of mayo and is a dick.”
  • “Kidney crispy and his legion of fans who insist he does nothing wrong ever”
  • “I worked at the joe louis arena and me and all my coworkers dreaded games when we played the pens, hands down no other team has fans so mean/rude/drunk/beligerent “

Nashville (unfortunate tbh.):

  • “Some of the fans are great, but a good number of them have already adopted the   annoying habit of complaining about not having won a cup and being under appreciated. They like to act as if they are just the longest suffering fans and don’t want to acknowledge that it is easy to cheer for a good team and that they haven’t really had the highs and lows that a lot of other fan bases have had at this point. Plus, I have been yelled at and hassled multiple times by Nashville fans when attending games. I really like the team and the city, but the fans are pretty bad.”
  • “fish. whiny babies. fucking carrie underwood pretending to care about hockey. bad country singers attempting the national anthem.”
  • “i’m a pretty big preds fan as well so this isn’t really a “i love the blackhawks so 4get the preds” response. imo it just seems like there are a handful of people that are diehard preds fans that come across really cruel?? like based on what i’ve seen when they’re indirecting or responding to people- and not just blackhawks fans because i don’t really count “being mean to blackhawks fans” as a cruel thing ajdklsa- but it just seems like their really good energy doesn’t always get used in a positive way on this site that’s all”
  • “the most annoying  for me are Nashville’s fans..i was at one game and i get so much hate because of my jersey, because of who am i supporting and..it just made me sad..i think they’re not all like this..but it happened”
  • “I’ve just met a lot of really mean preds fans in real life and on the internet, which was disappointing because they’re a pretty awesome team.”
  • “They seem to think that they’re good people just because of the player(s)/team(s) they support when they actually treat fans of all other teams like garbage. That seems really wrong and narrow minded to me.“
  • “They’ve just been really rude to me and my friends.”
  • ‘"It’s all your fault"’

Columbus:

  • “They’re just kind of snotty?”

Toronto:

  • “Leafs fans tend to think that Toronto is the center of the universe and that everything has to revolve around their team. They get defensive about every little thing and like to think that their team is better than it actually is sometimes. Unfortunately with a larger fanbase they simply have a larger volume of annoying fans, not necessarily a higher percentage than any other fanbase, and those voices really stick out”
  • “smol bean culture uwu”
  • “some can’t just take the W, sore winners  + they’re everywhere, always up to something (most of them are cool though im just bitter)”
  • “Who is Auston Matthews” (??????????????)
  • “'me stanning the leafs’ makes me want to Kermit sewer slide” (omg……….just @ karina. im screaming.)

Boston:

  • “The most Extra when their team is losing, literally act like the world is ending if they’re down 1 in the first and they’re always like “wow what must it be like to have a good time” LIKE CALM DOWN it’s infuriating” (just @ ashley omg :/)
  • “They are very violent and loud.”
  • “Boston fans are RACIST.”
  • “A majority of Bruins fans I’ve met/come into contact with are very aggressive and rude towards opposing teams’ fans.”

Winnipeg:

  • “Entitlement and have done nothing to deserve it”
  • “Massive circlejerk, obnoxious, feel entitled and cocky with absolutely nothing to show for it. Will vilify players/teams without recognizing any of their players are dirty or careless. Laine looks like Donkey from Shrek.”

My personal favorites, the Ducks:

  • “man i fuckin hate the ducks”
  • “I’m gay and I hate the ducks” (i love U)
  • “Are ducks fans even real idk but if they are they’d have to be assholes in order to put up with K*sler”

Ok here’s my two cents: obviously rivalries and stuff make bias. i get that. but you also have to remember that hockey is meant to be competitive, especially come playoff time. people are gonna goalie chant and be rude and yell stuff you may not like about your team. it happens! but it doesn’t mean that the fans are ALWAYS mean. that being said, i wanna say that preds fans aren’t intentionally malicious for no reason and I’m sorry to anyone who had a negative experience.

HOWEVER, for chicago and pittsburgh, before you point fingers, really reevaluate yourselves. obviously no one is perfect, and like i said, hockey is extremely competitive, but if this many people have an issue with you and how you treat others, then its time to take responsibility. I’ve met some great people with the pens as their secondary teams and there are pens fans that tolerate my hating them because they’re nice enough and can handle criticism, but overall, people have a negative view of y'all because you allow the assholes to be the loudest fans. if anyone wants to talk to me, my ask box is open, but like i said: DO NOT SEND ME ANONS ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE’S COMMENTARY. thank y'all for participating, i really appreciate it!

You're my fav fic writer here <3 so I wanted to ask if you also take prompts that are not from the list? If yes, please please please could you write a fic in which lola kidnaps andrew along with neil to baltimore? (or he just somehow ends up there)

(i lov u thank you sm, also this prompt is fucked up I had FUN)

Neil’s face is so sunken with grief that he’s barely recognizable. Andrew watches cooly as Nicky jokes with him, the energy of the team cascading down and off of Neil, water off an indifferent umbrella. This is not the same man who was buoyant with a fresh win half an hour ago, who holds exy in higher regard than his own life, some days.

Andrew crosses to him, siphoning Neil’s attention away from the action of the room to him, just him, their eyes hooked together.

“Thank you,” Neil says, his mouth trembling. “You were amazing.”

Andrew searches his face, waiting for more. The room around them feels hazily separate, his attention is pulled to every flicker of Neil’s eyes, every shape his mouth makes. Something is giving out like a rotting support beam, Andrew can feel the collapse as if it were happening in his own body.

He catches Wymack gesturing from the corner of his eye, and the foxes fall into line. Neil keeps holding Andrew’s gaze the way someone might watch their home disappear on the horizon as they drive away.

He turns on command, though, body held too casually to be genuinely at ease, walking in tandem with the men bracketing him.

Andrew levels Wymack with a dismissive look and turns on his heel to follow Neil to the parking lot, his heartbeat out-pacing his footsteps.

He watches the bobbing heads of the man in the reflective vest and his colleague guiding the team through a simmering crowd. A bottle careens past Aaron’s head and Andrew looks blackly out in the direction it was thrown from. His eyes return to Neil, and because he’s watching, he sees the moment the crowd swells and Neil is grabbed hard by the wrist.

Andrew starts running immediately, pushing his way through a crowd that feels more like the tumultuous surface of an angry ocean. He trips over a slippery bottle and clips a 6 foot tall Bearcats fan, who tries to punch Andrew and gets his hand ripped at the seam of his fingers for his trouble. The crowd is a firing squad pointed at him, but Andrew braves it without hesitation.

He loses sight of the shiny vest and Neil’s flaming hair, almost tripping again on a duffel bag upended in the street. He kicks viciously at it before realizing it’s Neil’s, his racquet dropped two feet away. It’s like a crime scene, like the gunpowder left in the wake of a ripping bullet.

Andrew scoops the racquet up and breaks into a flat-out sprint with it held in front of him, using its length to rake the crowd out of the way. They break, more interested in self-preservation than the spirit of revenge. Andrew gets a clear view of Neil’s shoulder being wrenched around, his face contorting with anger as he’s stuffed into the back of a highway patrol car.

“Stop,” Andrew calls, voice raised. He skids into the parking lot just as the door is closing on Neil, and four sets of eyes swing towards Andrew. He sees Neil mouth ‘no’ as a woman with an unhinged grin cranes around Neil, sizing Andrew up.

“Who’s this, Junior?”

His desk usually faced the back wall, but Zack usually sat on the chair backwards and observed the class or randomly tapping along to whatever song he was listening to. He noticed that his friends generally actually got some work done during this time. He watched Kimberly pull out her Biology textbook while Billy pulled out some maps and colored pencils. Jason was furrowing his eyebrows at a math textbook, and Trini was reading a book that was assigned in English.

Zack sighed. He had gotten his work for class done already. His teammates found it surprising that he was still able to be a student at Angel Grove High since he was never in class. In all honesty, he got much of his work from his teachers through emails, so he was able to get some work done. After all, there wasn’t much to do up in the mines. He usually sat inside the abandoned train car and got some work done, just enough to make sure that he would be able to graduate. The school didn’t like it, but Zack thought that as long as he was still passing, it would be alright.

Now that he was back in school with his friends, he actually did quite well in classes. He still spent a lot of time in his hideout, so he got a lot of work done.

Zack was bored out of his mind. Detention wouldn’t be over for another 2 hours or so. He smiled and took out a piece of paper from his bag. The other rangers were still concentrating on their homework, but Zack was sure they would notice what was about to happen. Sure enough, when Zack tossed the folded up paper at Jason, he instinctively reached up and caught it between his fingers.

He looked back at Zack, confused. Zack just smirked and gestured at Jason to open it.

And so it began: The Epic Detention Note String.

Zack: Hey! I’m bored, so we’re gunna play a little game of catch with this slip of paper. Write down a note with your name and pass it on! If you miss a toss, miss a catch, or end up getting caught, you lose! Just keep passing till the paper runs out of space! Doodle if you want!

Jason: I’m busy, so don’t blame me if I miss.

Billy: Sounds fun! Totally gunna sabotage.

Kimberly: Drawing time! Sorry it took me forever.

Zack: HOW DID YOU DO THAT IN LIKE 3 MINUTES! TF!

Trini: My girlfriend’s better than all of you.

Billy: My turn!

Jason: LOL accurate. How are you people drawing these things so fast?!

Billy: I don’t know. How are we passing this paper around at superhuman speeds?

Kimberly: He has a point. (NICE BILLY)

Trini: … Kudos.

Zack: I’m not sure whether to be flattered or insulted.

Kimberly: *doodles Go Go with power rangers lightning in corner*

Trini: FUCK I DROPPED IT.

Jason: And the first person drops out!

Kimberly: She looks so angry LMAO

Billy: SABOTAGE!

Zack: BILLY! WHY! I ALMOST DROPPED IT! WHAT DID YOU PUT ON IT?! ITS SO SLIPPERY! PAPER ISN’T SUPPOSED TO BE SLIPPERY!

Billy: LOL. Vaseline.

Jason: Woah. That was really slippery. The paper’s still in pretty good shape though….

Kimberly: LOL. THAT WAS THE WORST TOSS I’VE EVER SEEN. HE ALMOST FELL OUT OF HIS CHAIR! Mr. Bossman is out!

Zack: Agh, too bad. At least he isn’t smearing it anymore, being left handed and all.

Billy: SABOTAGE!

Zack: BILLY! STOP! I FUCKING DROPPED IT! DAMN! Welp, Zack-Attack is out!

Kimberly: Did he seriously call himself “Zack-Attack”

Billy: … *doodles bees in the margin of the paper*

Kimberly: We should start a band! *Doodles power ranger lightning bolt with power ranger colors*

Billy: Yes!

Kimberly: I WIN BITCHES! BILLY FAILS AT SUBTLETY! THE TEACHER TOTALLY LOOKED SHOCKED.

Jason: We just passing it around now?

Billy: DANG IT!

Trini: Told you she was better than you guys.

Zack: Yo! Go Hart!

Jason: Guys, team meeting tonight by the campfire. We are discussing this band thing…. I call lead guitarist!

Trini: No fair! We are totally hashing this out tonight.

Zack: Ok ok. I think the writing should stop. We’ll just pass it to everyone to keep everyone updated. If it gets back to me. I’ll put the paper away. We are doing this again!

Trini: I’ll win next time…

Zack smirked down at the page in front of him. His teammates wrote everywhere on the paper, marking where the next line was with arrows and dashed lines. The paper looked like a road map full of words and little drawings. His friends were all looking back and forth from each other, silently chuckling. Zack took out another sheet of paper and wrote all their names down in separate rows. He gave Kim a “point”. Oh, I am totally crushing them next time. He put away the paper they wrote on for safe-keeping. He wanted to remember these moments.

The detention bell rang, and all the students began gathering their things. The rangers burst out laughing and immediately gathered. Zack displayed the scoreboard he made and they all laughed and commented on different types of games they could play.

They exited the building, and Zack thought to himself as the sunlight beat down on them. He was glad he met them. They were good for him.

Ps: im bad at revising

TW: angst, lots of swearing, toddlers, very very brief mentions of depression, anxiety, and suicide

You saw a dim light flicker from the corner of your eye as you played Uno with your young nephew, accompanied by a slight ding signaling you got a text. You knew it was probably Connor.

“You can get your phone, it’s okay.” your nephew told you, sounding wise beyond his years for a 3-and-a-half-year-old. He was the most adorable thing, and you couldn’t get over it.

“Nope, buddy. I need my full concentration for this game. I’m not gonna lose to you again. They can wait a couple of minutes until I demolish you at this Uno.” you replied sternly, lifting your head up high, causing giggles to erupt for the small boy. You couldn’t help but smile back. But your lips fell when your phone started dinging over and over and over again. Your nephew peered up at you with big eyes, silently telling you to just get it. You put up a finger, putting your cards face to use your other hand to reach for your phone. You were right, it was Connor.

hey

(Y/N)

what are you up to

i’m bored

my parents aren’t home

heeeeey

you’re my only friend i want to hang out with you dammit

You couldn’t help but to let a smile form on your face. This fucking kid. You couldn’t believe that this was the boy that barely spoke two words to you over a span of a month when you were lab partners. At the start of Junior Year, you had to take a physics class as a prereq for graduating. The class was filled with seniors, leaving you and this mysterious, and super scary Connor Murphy as the only two juniors. So, your teacher paired you up, resentment oozing out of Connor. You basically did the projects by yourself, him helping with data or equations you didn’t understand yourself, but you never actually talked much. You did your work in silence. Until you noticed he was writing some old fall out boy (A/N: I feel like everyone just mutually agreed on Connor liking FOB so I’m just going along with it.)  lyrics on one of his data sheets.

“That’s a good song.” You murmured, peering back at your paper, trying to work through this problem that made zero sense.

“You like fall out boy?” he mumbled, trying to figure out what you were trying to do by making conversation with him.

“Yeah, Pete Wentz was the love of my life for a while. They were actually my first concert back in middle school, when they made a comeback. But they peeked at From Under A Cork Tree.”  Connor smiled at this, agreeing silently with everything you just said. His smile was addictive, so you kept going. Seeing how long you could kept a conversation going and his smile up as well. You mostly talked at first. But his word count each week was increasing exponentially. Until you went a whole class listening to him talk about how The Smiths was easily the best band ever and better than Nirvana and that Nirvana is over-hyped because everyone romanticizes Kurt’s suicide while no one really actually cares about the depressed kid until they are gone. The conversation kind of died after that. Him feeling like he said too much, and you just not knowing what to say. Something told you he wasn’t just talking about Kurt Cobain. So, you kind of squeezed his hand momentarily, which he would never admit, made him blush like a madman and almost pushed him into a panic attack, he was so overwhelmed and caught off guard. Then, the game changed for Connor. It was bound to happen; a crush was going to form. Connor fell victim, falling hard. No one really reached out to him before, unless it was to make fun of him and get in his head. He was the school’s punching bag. Even school nerds like Jared Kleinman picked on him. He always noticed you before. You never laughed at him when other made jokes. But he didn’t realize that not only a friendship was forming, but a crush as well. And when he did, it was too late to abort. This boy was in love with you from the time you spotted those fall out boy lyrics to be honest.

Another ding snapped you out of your reminiscing.

you never not text me

You texted him back quickly, knowing he was probably thinking of all the ways you just lying on the street dead to your body floating in the river face down. He confessed that this happened a lot to you. He’d just get bad, intrusive thoughts he couldn’t shake away.

im alive and well. Just babysitting my nephew Carter. HES SO CUTE

You snapped a picture of Carter playing Uno and sent it to Connor. Before you could even put down your phone, another familiar ding alerted you.

you’re so embarrassing why am i friends with you

i’ll be over in ten

You smiled at the last message. Connor wasn’t the only one with the crush. Yes, yours did develop later in your relationship, but it was definitely equal to Connors admiration for you. Connor didn’t really start opening up after about three months into your friendship. Once he talked about the whole Kurt Cobain thing, he kind of laid low for a little, you having to steer the conversation if you wanted it to live. He was touchy, so you had to handle him with care. You tried to bring it up a few times, to just get immediately shut down. You’d always ask in school, because you weren’t at the point of hanging outside of it yet. But he’d always change topic. It’s not like he didn’t trust you, it was everyone around him. Paranoid they were secretly listening in on your chats. So, you decided to take initiative. It was exactly 3 months of you being friends, so you asked if he wanted to hang.

“Connor?”

“What…” he replied, seemingly uninteresting as he doodled along the margin of his already finished calc problems. He was actually a fucking genius. He wasn’t just artistic, but the kid had a brain. But that’s a different topic.

“You know what today is?”

“I ‘donno know,” all his words kind of running together, “Friday?”

“No.” you felt dumb now. “Never mind.”

“No what’s today. I like hearing your weird ass facts. Is it like, Morrissey’s birthday, or like the anniversary of The Queen Is Dead album?”

“You’re gonna find it stupid that I was even going to make a big deal out of it, so, never mind.”

“No, tell me.”

“No”

“Yes.”

“No.”

“Fucking god, (Y/N). Just tell me already.”

“It’s our ¼ friendaversary.”

“What? What the fuck is that shit?”

“See. I knew you’d find it dumb.”

“N-no, I just don’t know what the fuck that is.” Connor genuinely asked.

“We’ve been friends for three months, Connor. That’s what it means. I thought you were good at math?”

“That’s a thing? And people celebrate that? I wasn’t aware that was a milestone.”

“No, people don’t really celebrate it. But we do our own thing.”

“How is it three months?”

“What do you mean?”

“Like, how do you figure?”

“Oh… It’s the day we talked about fall out boy. Remember?” You shifted awkwardly in your desk, realizing that knowing the exact date you first bonded was creepy.

“Barely.” he lied. Of course, he fucking did. He wouldn’t stop thinking about you that moment for the rest of that week. Then, he’d just think of you in general from that point on all the time. You consumed his thoughts, both during day and night. You were even in his dreams.

“We should, like, I don’t know… Hang out tonight.”

“We’ve never hung out before. What would we even do.”

“Friend things.” you sneered

“And what does that consist of.” he jabbed back.

“I don’t know, Connor. Like, use that vivid imagination of yours. Pizza and a movie. Pizza and video games. Pizza and anything. Pizza just had to be the foundation.

“Well, do you wanna go out somewhere. Or like hang out at someone’s house?”

“It’s getting cold out so we can hang at one of our houses, if you want?”

“Um, can we go to yours? My parents will be home and I don’t like to ask them things.”

“Sure, they won’t mind you’re going to be over right?”

“Um, I wasn’t going to tell them.”

“Why, are you embarrassed of me.” you joked. Connor didn’t respond right away. “Wait, are you?”

“No, of course not. It’s just…” he paused, pursing his lips, you noticed his prominent cupid’s bow. “It’s complicated.” he grumbled, “What time do you want me over for this stupid celebration.”

“Well if you think it’s stupid-”

Connor started speaking over you, “For this very awesome, cool, great, fan-fucking-tastic celebration. I misspoke.”

“6.”

“Can’t wait.” he responded sarcastically, rolling his eyes. But you both knew he couldn’t.

That night consisted of pizza, of course. And Connor opted for old NES games, which he beat you at every single time.

“Okay, literally fuck Excitebike! It’s so dumb you can overheat your bike?” I shouted, throwing my controller.

“You’re such a sore loser.”

“I am not! It’s just Excitebike is dumb. Let’s go back to Punch Out!, or Galaga. I’m warmed up now, and I’ll definitely win.”

“You’ve said that after every single game.”

“No, I’m serious now, my game was just off.”

“Sure.”

“Plus, I had drawing today, so my hand was already tired.”

“Whatever you say, (Y/N).”

“I think I broke my thumb last week squeezing it between my locker.”

“Of course you did.” he taunted, trying to resist a smile. His eyes were gleaming, he was enamored. He was trying even harder to not kiss you.

“I’m going to beat you next week.”

“Next week?”

“I mean, if you’re free.” you tried to not sound desperate, but failing.

“Do you see all my other friends lining up to hang out with me?” he deadpanned.

“Then, It’s a date.”

“Date?” Connor quickly caught your phrasing, trying to understand your intention.

You froze, “You know, not an actual date. Like, a platonic date, bro.” you tried your hardest to brush it off, but failing. Again. You scolded yourself for using the term ‘bro’. But Connor let it go, though he did feel wounded.

“Got it, bro.” Sourly putting emphasis on the latter word, “Play me again so I can fucking win for the millionth time.” he said, a little too aggressively.

“You good?”

“Dandy. I just want to prove I’m good enough for you.” he accidentally professed.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” you inquired.

“God, just play me. That’s what I mean.”

You didn’t want to press him. The tension in the air was at an all-time high. Connor never really got snippy like this with you. I mean, yes, he did sometimes raise his voice or make a rude remark. But he’d habitually curse under his breath and apologize immediately. You always understood, knowing all the pent-up anger inside him. But then Connor seemed to relax again once you started playing Punch Out!, taking his anger out through Little Mac on King Hippo, and then the two of you went back to having fun. In Connor’s head though, he definitely planned to kiss you that night, but the way to swerved the date topic, he lost all his confidence. Taking it as you’d never see him in a romantic light. That was almost 6 months ago, and he still hasn’t made a move.

You came out of your daydream once again when Carter yelled out Uno, well a version of the word.

“Unope!” he added a P in the end for whatever reason. You decided against telling him. How were you losing to a 3-year-old for the seventh time?! He placed down a red 4, excitement in his eyes. He definitely had a red, you could see it in his eyes. You looked at your hand, filled with about a dozen reds from the draw 4s he was hitting you with. So, you decided to take your chance picking up a card from the deck. A yellow 4.

“You aren’t winning today.” you placed the card down, smirking. The 3-year-old squealed out and slapped down a yellow 7.

“Outto!!!” he cheered, the bastard winning again. You couldn’t believe he had a yellow out of everything.

You throw up your cards in a joking manner, “You don’t even know the whole alphabet!” another fit of giggles came from your nephew.

“I least he can win at Uno,” a voice came through the door. “You’re a destined loser. I don’t think you’ve ever won at anything.” Connor trudged through the door in his beat up brown jean jacket and combat boots, his nose red from the cold approaching winter air.

“False!” you yelled out, going up to Connor and giving him a bear hug. He slung an arm around you, bringing him closer to him. He rested his chin on your head, inhaling your scented shampoo. He couldn’t pick out the scent, but you reminded him he needed to wash his hair soon.

“Solitaire doesn’t count. You literally okay that by yourself.”

You pushed him away, “Whatever, shut up. I’m not a sore loser at least.”

“You totally are though?” he remarks back, “You make up excuses. You just told your nephew he doesn’t know the alphabet because you’re angry you lost.”

“I said, whatever! Shut up.” you fake yell like you’re pissed off. “Connor, this is Carter, my favorite nephew. Carter, this is Connor, my least favorite friend.” Connor waved awkwardly at the child before him, Carter got up from his chair and jumped down. He tugged on his skinny jean pant leg that was still too big because he was so lanky. His legs were skinnier than yours.

“It’s touching me.” Connor whispered to you.

“Carter wants you to pick him up. He probably wants to tell you something.”

“How do I pick it up.”

“Connor, why are you an inept alien? Like you aren’t from earth.”

Connor leans down and scoops up Carter, Carter whispering something in his ear.

“Both our names do begin with C. You are correct. Here I thought you didn’t know your alphabet.” Connor repeated what Carter told him aloud, looking over at you and raising his eyebrow. Carter whispered again, cupping his hands around his mouth so you wouldn’t hear.

“You know until L,” he paused, listening more. “Yeah, no I get it, it does get confusing at that point.” Carter continued. You couldn’t help but to burn up at the sight. Your two favorite guys. “Yeah, I’ll stop talking out loud.” you assumed Carter asked him to keep the next thing a secret. Connor starts to turn red and looks at you for a split second. Connor puts Carter down, trickery written on your nephew’s face, bashfulness on Connor’s. Carter ran into your living room, picking up train tracks and started to build.

You squeeze Connor’s thin arm, “What did he tell you?”

Connor smiled lopsidedly, “It’s a secret. I can’t tell you.” he confidently takes your hand and dragged you into the living room. The three of you spend the day playing with trains, then move to watching rug rags, then back to trains, and then finally Carter passed out fast asleep coloring with Connor at the table. You pick Carter up, leaving Connor to keep coloring.

“Is he knocked out?” Connor realizing you left, walking to the bottom of the stairs, watching you walk up them with Carter on your back.

“Yes, finally. I thought we were going to have to play trains again. A girl can only play with Thomas a number of times before she goes a little stir crazy.”

Connor catches up to you on the steps, “I can put him to bed, if you wanna clean up downstairs.” he proposes, you nodded and let Connor take Carter off your back. You watched as Carter curled up in Connor’s chest, having your stomach dropped.

Shit. You really liked Connor.

You realized you were just staring at Connor, making him shift awkwardly under your stare. “Um, I’m, uh, yeah. I’m gonna go do that.” you chuckled awkwardly, going downstairs. Mentally punching yourself in the face for being weird. What the hell was wrong with you, you thought to yourself. You start with the crayons, putting them back in the box. You picked up pictures that Carter drew. You laughed at the stick figures, most of them being Connor, him, and you. Flipping through the pictures, Carter start drawing you and Connor holding hands, then there was one of you two dancing, then the last one displayed you kissing. You smile softly, thinking about the possibility of what Carter told Connor that he blushed so furiously at. You looked over at the end of the table, realizing a turned over paper where Connor was sitting. You glanced at the stairs making sure Connor was still upstairs. You creep over to the paper, turning it over.

It was you. Where you were sitting, coloring, looking down with strands of your hair falling in front of your eyes. Eyes that seemed to sparkle, smile lines that corresponded with an closed smirk, a soft dimple marking your cheek. He made you look so beautiful. It was so…  realistic. And, just amazing.

“Don’t look at that.” Connor hissed, trying taking it out of your hands.

“This is me…” you stated, trailing off.

“It’s nothing. Let it go.” he continued, not sure if he meant the paper or the topic.

“No, I have questions.”

“I’m not playing 20/20 questions. Just forget I drew that. Rip it up.”

“What did Carter tell you.”

“I have to go, (Y/N), it’s getting late.”

“Just tell me, Connor.”

“The secret? The stupid fucking secret some 3 year old told me?”

“I wanna know the secret you’ve been keeping from me for like 6 months.”

“And what the fuck would that be.” He knew what you were getting on about.

“Tell me how you feel about me.”

Connor blushed, “I’m leaving.”

“Stop,” you run in front of the door. Placing a hand on Connor’s chest.

“I can’t do this right now.”

“Then when will you?!” You whisper shout, remembering Carter is still upstairs sleeping,

You two stared at each other, both feeling vulnerable. Connor clenched his jaw.

“Never. You’re too good for me. You’re a thousand times too good for me. I don’t deserve you. I’m a loser, a freak. And you’re, I don’t even fucking know a good word to describe you. You're… just… perfect. And I know deep down you don’t actually like me. Just let me go home. I’ve embarrassed myself enough, don’t you think.

“You’re so dense, Connor.” You grabbed the back of his head, doing what he should’ve 6 months ago. Really, what you should’ve done 9 months ago. Your lips collided together. The kiss itself was flawed: Connor kissed you back to roughly, your noses bumped, and both of you kind of smelled like wax from the crayons. But it was enough. It was more than enough for both of you. It was perfect.

“Finally.” a tiny voice said from the top of the stairs, “Took you guys long enough.” You both snapped your heads over, breaking the kiss. It’s the fucking kid.

“Talk to us when you know the alphabet.” Connor called out, kissing you lightly this time like he’d never hurt you, and he never will. Carter trotted back to his room.

“Someone needs to tuck me in again.” Carter yelled. You looked over at Connor.

“Yeah, I got it.” Connor told you, and started for the stairs. “Oh, and if isn’t obvious, I fucking love you, (Y/N).”

You rolled your eyes at his word choice, but your stomach did back flips, “I fucking love you, Murphy.”

Valentine’s Day

Happy Valentine’s Day to all of my dear followers! You guys are amazing and I love you all. <3

Quick shout out to my girl @noenoemi for helping me find the cards. They do not belong to me and were found through Google.

Jonathan wasn’t the biggest fan of Valentine’s Day; though it had more to do with the fact that he rarely had anyone to celebrate with, than the idea of it being a made up holiday for stores to sell overpriced candy and cards to the unsuspecting public.

He dreaded the day, because it just reminded him how horribly lonely he was, and how his romantic life was virtually nil. It also emphasized how deeply in love he was with his best friend, with no hope for the future due to the fact that said best friend was straight, and completely unavailable.

Which is why, when he opened his locker on the tenth of February, he was extremely surprised to find a small red envelope sitting among his books.

My New Henry Big Boy in .357 mag/.38 Special

About a month and a half ago I used my tax refund to buy this beautiful new lever action rifle. The Henry Big Boy is a lever action produced by Henry Repeating Arms Co., one of their many lever action products. Mine is chambered in .357 magnum, many of their rifles are chambered in pistol caliber cartridges, hearkening back to the days of the Old West when Winchester lever actions were chambered in cowboy pistol cartridges such as .44-40 and .45 Colt. The Henry Big Boy comes in .357, .44 mag, and .45 colt. Since mine is .357, it can also feed and chamber .38 special as well.  I bought this possibly as a short range hunting rifle, something to use when I don’t feel like using my flintlock.  Plus, since it can fire .38 special, it is a very economical plinking gun.  .357 is a fairly powerful pistol cartridge, but from a rifle it sports some very impressive ballistics, and it’s certainly good enough to take medium sized game at short ranges.

The most notable feature of the Big Boy is its brass frame. They also offer the same model with an iron frame, a checkered stock, and rubber butt pad. I considered buying that one because it would probably be more practical as a rifle to lug through thick woods. However the lovely gleam of it’s brass frame, brass butt plate, and brass barrel bands was too much to resist.  It will probably get scratched, oh well, it was worth it. The rifle features a neat hexagon barrel, adding to its nostalgic old timey look and giving you the feeling that you are handling an old fashioned cowboy gun. It features a ten round fixed magazine, which is loaded through a loading port at the end of the barrel.  To load the magazine port must be twisted and magazine rod removed. Then you insert the cartridges one at a time, then re-insert the magazine rod.

When I first bought this rifle the magazine rod was very hard to twist and operate.  However the more and more I work it, the more its wearing in and its becoming progressively easier.

Often the Henry Golden Boy and Big Boy is mistaken as a replica of the American Civil War era Henry M1860 lever action rifle. However this is not true. Rather, the Big Boy is almost like a hybrid of a Henry rifle, a Winchester Model 1866, and a Marlin Model 336.  It has the loading port system and tube magazine of the Henry, the forearm and brass frame of a Winchester M1866, and a Marlin action.  Regardless you still get this feeling of handling and firing an antique cowboy lever gun, a must for my tastes. The sights are simple, featuring and adjustable ramp rear sight and a front post sight.

Another feature I must mention is a transfer bar, which means you can have the hammer uncocked and down on a round without risk of accidental discharge, which is probably the most important modern feature on a rifle with design elements dating to the 19th century.

With .357 the action is very smooth and operates without any problem.  I did some plinking with both .357 and .38 special.  I purchased some cheap bottom shelf ammo not thinking about the possibility of feeding issues. Problem is I bought this really cheap .38 special ammo that used lacquered steel casings, and ejection was certainly is issue. I later bought some better quality .38 special with brass casings and found they fed with far less issues, though the action isn’t as smooth as with .357 and you kind of have to work the lever harder and faster to ensure proper feeding and ejection. The recoil is very light, even firing .357 magnum. Recoil wise I would compare it to 7.62x39.  So it will definitely save your shoulder despite the brass buttplate.

At first I just did some simple close range plinking at steel swivel targets at 25 yards.  The rifle hits right on at that range and it certainly is a fun plinker.  Then I took it to the 100 yard range to see what I can do. I must admit I had a bit of a handicap shooting, I work night shift and it was a particularly bright day. So my eyes were very sensitive to light and my vision a bit blurry. I think I’m turning into a vampire.

I was shooting from a bench rest with open sights, using Fiocchi .357 magnum ammo with 142 grain bullets.  I was firing three rounds groups.  First I tested it at 50 yards. At 50 yards the target and visible and well defined. Note that each increment on the grid is one inch.

The first group shot to the right and high aiming at the bull. I decided to play with the adjustable ramp sight, lowering it one increment.  The result was the 2nd group, which shot low.  Thus I reset the sight and adjusted but aiming low, and to the left, resulting in the third group. At 50 yards it shoots on average 1-2 inch groupings.

I then continued by shooting at 100 yards.  At 100 yards the front sight completely covers the bullseye and black portion of the target.

Despite increasing range to 100 yards it still shot high, in fact it shot much higher than at 50 yards. The first grouping I was aiming right for the bull, resulting again in a high group, with one shot completely off the target. I can only assume know that the .357 magnum’s ballistic arc from this rifle is much more considerable than I had previously imagined.  Thus I adjust the the ramp sight down one increment. Like at 50 yards it then shot too low (2nd group). So I reset the sight and decided to aim low, resulting in the third group. At 100 yards it shoots around 2-3 inch groupings on average.

In my final test, I went back to 50 yards. This time I was not using the bench rest, instead firing off hand.  Nor was I taking time with my shots.  Basically the scenario was that I am the sheriff of a western town and some outlaws are up to no good and I have to deal with them.  So I was shooting as quickly as possible while keeping rounds on target.  This was the result.

Now I must say this is no tack driver, nor is it a long range rifle, and I bought it with that expectation. Ballistics data using a 140 grain bullet show that it has a drop of -.2 inches at 100 yards and -5 inches at 150 yards.  So 100 yards is probably the edge of its optimum range. Mine seems to shoot high, but I still would not go beyond 100 yards.  That is fine to me since where I traditionally hunt it is thick woods and there is rarely any continuous ground more than 75 yards. With a scope you could probably get much better range and accuracy out of it. I imagine that if I was using much better quality ammunition with hotter loads, say +P or buffalo bore ammunition, the groupings would tighten considerably at 100 yards and the adjustable sites will be much more useful.  I shall try that some time in the future and post the results.

My final comments on the Henry Big Boy had to do with its quality. Originally I wanted to buy a Rossi Circuit Judge in .410/.45 long colt, most because of the allure of a revolving rifle.  However, I had seen many complaints about the quality of it and manufacturing flaws. Plus it carried the Taurus name (Rossi is owned by Taurus), a Brazilian company which has a reputation for iffy quality control.  So I decided to ditch the Circuit Judge. I also looked at the Ross M1892 lever action rifle, also in .357/38 and also made by Taurus.  It was $300 cheaper (the Henry cost $730), but when I saw it in person I was not impressed.  The metal work was OK, as was the metal finish, done satisfactorily but nothing thrilling.  However the wood and wood finish looked bad, as if it had been done by either child labor, a drunk, or someone who just didn’t really care about what they were doing.  It was really off putting.  The Henry looks like a rifle of unparalleled quality at first glance. It looks like someone made them with an eye for detail and with uncompromising quality in mind. I also own a Henry lever action in .22LR as well, although with a steel frame, and I can say the same for it.  When the sales person took it out of the box I immediately blurted “holy shit, that’s a beautiful rifIe.” I can’t stress the quality of workmanship that goes into Henry rifles, they are more than just firearms, they are works of art.  They are the only metallic cartridge firearms I own and I have no plans nor feel the need to buy any other modern firearms again. Instead I want to focus my collection on antique muzzleloaders or replicas of antique muzzleloaders.  So for me the quality of the Henry trumps all else, its a rifle you can own for a lifetime and can be passed down from generation to generation.

How to Hook a Reader:   Ten Examples of Great Opening Lines in Literature, and What They Do Right.

1.  “Lydia is dead.  But they don’t know this yet.”

- “Everything I Never Told You,” by Celeste Ng.

Ng’s masterpiece (which you all need to read, like, yesterday by the way) seamlessly pulls the reader under with this captivatingly cryptic opening line.

She poses several questions right off the bat (who is Lydia?  Why is she dead?  Who killed her?) that keep the reader captivated for the entirety of the novel.

Of course, Ng is aided in keeping the reader hooked with her immaculately crafted, three-dimensional characters, with all of whom the reader can’t help but empathize by the story’s end, but this doesn’t make her opening line any less masterful.  She is, in all ways, an amazing writer.

2.  “There was a boy called Eustace Clarance Scrubb, and he almost deserved it.”

- “Voyage of the Dawn Treader,” by C.S. Lewis.

Okay, first of all, I’d like to point out the substantial irony in a person named Clive Staples Lewis critiquing anyone else’s name.  But that by no regard diminishes the comedic brilliance of this line.

Even if I hadn’t been such a Narnia fanatic as a child, this line alone would have made me want to become one.  Sometimes, all you really need to do is make the audience laugh with a well-crafted joke.

3.  “All this happened, more or less.”

- “Slaughterhouse-Five,” Kurt Vonnegut.

Who doesn’t love Vonnegut?  Well, I might not be the most impartial person to ask about this.  His absurdist sense of humor taps into something visceral in me.

Nevertheless, there’s something about this line that has a near universal appeal:  it shows that the author is self aware enough not to take his work too seriously, and also shows that the work should be a lot of fun.  There’s also a familial quality about it, like listening to a tall tail from a favorite relative, and creates a sense of personability that remains prevalent throughout the novel.

4.  “Call me Ishmael.  Some years ago - never mind how long precisely - having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me on shore, I thought I would sail about a little and see the watery part of the world.“

- “Moby Dick,” by Herman Melville.

I wanted to skip this one, I really did, if only because it’s so unanimously acknowledged as one of the best opening lines in literature.  But it really is amazing.

It creates an immediate sense of conversation between narrator and reader, without being overly personable.  Ishmael cuts right to the chase, and plunges us immediately in to the story at hand, like a harpoon into the blubbery flank of a wale.

Also, in context of the dramatic events of the story, I can’t help but find his casual attitude about the ordeal very amusing.

5.  “If you’re reading this on a screen, fuck off.  I’ll only talk if I’m gripped with both hands.”

- “Book of Numbers,” by Joshua Cohen.

This is a book that knows what it wants and is not afraid to ask for it.  Cohen’s book is meta fiction at its finest, and its opening line is unabashedly reflective of its own self-awareness.

Book of Numbers isn’t for everybody, but it’s hard not to love this opening line.

6.  "It was a nice day. All the days had been nice. There had been rather more than seven of them so far, and rain hadn’t been invented yet. But clouds massing east of Eden suggested that the first thunderstorm was on its way, and it was going to be a big one.”

- “Good Omens,” by Neil Gaiman and Terri Pratchett.

I’m not going to lie: Good Omens is one of my all-time favorite books.  This opening line is a promise for the themes that are prevalent throughout the book:  hidden depth, wit, and existential questions beneath a thick layer of upbeat, cheerful irreverence and satire.

Like the book itself, it asks serious questions without ever taking itself too seriously, and makes for an enormously fun read that will make you laugh and make you think.  I highly recommend it.

7.  “I am an invisible man. No, I am not a spook like those who haunted Edgar Allan Poe; nor am I one of your Hollywood-movie ectoplasms. I am a man of substance, of flesh and bone, fiber and liquids—and I might even be said to possess a mind. I am invisible, understand, simply because people refuse to see me. Like the bodiless heads you see sometimes in circus sideshows, it is as though I have been surrounded by mirrors of hard, distorting glass. When they approach me they see only my surroundings, themselves, or figments of their imagination—indeed, everything and anything except me.”

- “Invisible Man,” by Ralph Ellison.

This one is both an objectively intriguing opening line, and a potent one, when viewed in the context that Ellison himself was a Black man.  Published in 1952, the line resonates with marginalized groups to this very day, and is evocative of a very real struggle – the “invisibility” – of Black Americans, then and now.

It is timelessly pertinent and powerful.

8.   “The story so far:  In the beginning the Universe was created.  This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.”

- “The Restaurant at the End of the Universe,” by Douglas Adams.

Oh, Douglas Adams.  One of my greatest sources of literary inspiration, who taps into my sense of dry, somewhat absurdist humor like no other.  I might have to make another post devoted to all of my favorite of his lines, but that’s not the point here.

This line is magnificent, because it immediately sets the tone for the novel and gives the reader a clear image of what to expect (predominantly, razor-sharp wit and satire.)  It’s also short and simplistic, and very clearly doesn’t take itself too seriously, just like the novel itself.

9.  “Shadow had done three years in prison. He was big enough and looked don’t-fuck-with-me enough that his biggest problem was killing time. So he kept himself in shape, and taught himself coin tricks, and thought a lot about how much he loved his wife.”

- “American Gods,” by Neil Gaiman.

This line is, in my opinion, almost perfect.  It gives us an immediate image of Shadow, his personality, his values, and the challenges he’s facing, while at the same time jumping right into the action of the story without wasting the readers’ time with needless exhibitionism.

It also creates immediate interest in the story, and asks many questions that can only be answered if by continuing to read it.  It’s almost as amazing as the book itself.

10.   “It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.”

- “Pride and Prejudice,” by Jane Austen.

This is another one that I, for the sheer purpose of originality, wanted to avoid getting around for the purpose of this list, but there’s simply no avoiding it:  this line is amazing.  It’s a crime of our era that people consider Austen such a “serious” writer, when she was, in fact, possibly the greatest satirist of her time.

This line encapsulates the irreverence of this novel, as well as Austen’s razor-sharp wit and intelligence.  Like most of Austen’s works, it remains a classic.

Exhaustion taints your words as you lean back in your chair, resting your head back on your shoulders as you look longingly out of the café window, the same view having greeted you for the past 4 hours that you’d been sat trying to work on your latest assignment for university, and each time having taunted you with the prospect of escape, before you’d ultimately turned back to your laptop to continue tapping nonsensically away.

‘Come on, Y/N, only 3 more weeks and then you’ll be free of this.’ You mutter to yourself, dragging in a deep breath once more before sitting back up and cracking your back as you refocus on what you were writing.

Although, its after around 5 minutes of staring dumb-foundedly at the paragraph of gibberish on the screen in front of you, that a loud hulking laugh penetrates through your concentration and you peer up at the counter of the café to see two tallish boys chuckling away together, their faces immediately catching your attention as you take in how stunningly beautiful they were.

‘Well, that’s a sight for sore eyes.’ You mumble, taking a moment to appreciate the beauty of them, but getting cut off when you suddenly see the most angelic boy turning to look in your direction, hurriedly looking back down at your computer and feeling your face heat up like a furnace. Of course, you couldn’t stop yourself from taking one last peak up at them when you hear them begin to mutter between one another once again, watching them receive their order of two hot drinks and a selection of cookies and biting your lip when you see the tempting sight of chocolate.

‘God, I could really do with a cookie right now.’ You murmur to yourself, sighing, and shaking yourself out of your thoughts as you try to reject the exhaustion pulling at your bones, instead leaning back to stretch in your chair and momentarily closing your eyes as you take a moment to escape the stoic pose you’d been sat in for the past few hours.

You draw in a deep breath as you sit up once more, feeling like weights were pulling at your eyes and having an odd sense of disorientation as the café blurs in your vision slightly, before you peer at the clock on the wall to see that rather than the 5 minutes you were expecting, 2 whole hours had passed.

‘Oh My God!’ you gasp, realizing you must have fallen asleep and awkwardly scrabbling into a more upright position, rubbing your eyes weakly and groaning as you think about how much time you’d lost that you could have spent working on your assignment.

‘Im so dead.’ You groan, instantly standing and walking over to the counter to order a coffee to go, and quickly packing up as you wait for your coffee to be ready.

‘Americano?’

You sigh as your order is called, hurrying to shove the rest of your stuff into your bag so that you could swing it onto your shoulder, before going to turn back to the counter, only to almost walk straight into a set of wide shoulders.

‘Oh, sorry.’ You mutter, about to move around them, before you realize the man was holding a cup out for you to take, your order of an Americano in his hand making you frown as you try to remember if you’d paid for it…

But that was before you looked up.

And you took in the same angel’s face with those warm chocolate brown eyes that you’d seen stood at the counter earlier.

Only this time, those eyes were staring down at you.

Weekly Voltron Fic Recs #28

Rules: You can find past weekly rec lists here, and non-list recs in my general fic rec tag. This is stuff I like, and I have a huge bias toward Lance, hurt/comfort, and general fluff, in that order. Gen unless otherwise noted. Please comment on the fics if you read and enjoy them!

Secret of the Blood by exclamation
Words: 30,685 (WIP 13/?)
Author’s Summary: AU version of season 2. When Keith and Shiro were thrown from the wormhole, they crashed by the Blade of Marmora headquarters and were captured. When the Blade reveal the secret of Keith’s heritage, Keith must decide if he can trust these people… and if he can trust himself.
My Comments: Really well-written canon-divergence AU. I love all the things that change because Keith meets the Blade of Marmora before he and Shiro can warm up to the idea of there being good Galra out there through Ulaz. It makes a HUGE difference, for them and for everyone else as well, and I love the way the idea is being explored.

The Color Of Our Planet From Far Far Away by LonelyGirlInSpace
Words: 13,942 (WIP 3/?)
Author’s Summary: A story in which Lance and the team has a lot of difficulties, because they don’t sleep and sometimes make poor choices as a result and others are forced to suffer more than they deserve due to those poor choices. Or Lance gets hurt because the team didn’t listen and everyone desperately wants to fix it.
My Comments: Lance is a little too perfect and the rest of the team is a little too mean for my tastes, at least in the first chapter, but this is a well-written and poignant hurt/comfort fic, and it’s gen, and the third chapter almost made me cry, and I’m very, very hooked. Can’t wait for more.

with quiet words I’ll lead you in by strikinglight for goukyorin (sashimisusie)
Words: 5,216
Author’s Summary: “You were screaming,” Keith tells him. “I heard you through the wall. ”That wall, Lance wants to point out, is supposed to be soundproof. It shouldn’t let you hear anything, no matter how hard you listen. What he says instead is “I can’t breathe.” “Take it slow.” Keith’s voice is steady, but as Lance’s eyes struggle to focus his face is a blur. The image goes shaky and then comes clear, shaky then clear, like looking into water. “Pretend it’s low tide. Tell me about the ocean again.”
My Comments: Klance, but reads platonic to me. Really lovely hurt/comfort fic about kids caught in a war far, far away from home.

Disappear Completely by Bandity
Words: 7,053
Author’s Summary: Lance knew something was wrong with him. He thought it would pass on its own eventually, but as time went on, and the pain continued, he realized that something inside of him must be very broken.
My Comments: Possibly my favorite fic this week. So far I’ve read it three times. Lance’s trauma is so awful and visceral, and the aftermath is realistic and carefully handled. There are no easy solutions, but things do get better, and everyone is doing their best to help.

Space Mall Take 2 by CondensationOnGlass
Words: 3,618
Author’s Summary: Shiro won’t stand for the Paladins looking like no-good troublemakers. And with the Galra Empire so spread out and with such a gripping hold, they may need more than what they have. And for some reason the mall seems like the place to get it. And it seems like a great place to have more trouble pop up. Aka: Where Shiro has to play the big brother and apologize for the others making a great big damn mess, and nearly has another one on his hands for picking today of all days to do it.
My Comments: Equal parts comedy and hurt/comfort, and a joy to read throughout. Poor Lance.

Nomenclature by Awkwardly_social
Words: 7,885
Author’s Summary: It took almost five months to find Lance after the wormhole. And when they finally do, they’re stuck on the planet until the castle can come get them. Lance takes the opportunity to teach the team a little about the planet and a little bit about himself along the way.
My Comments: Lance has had a rough time, and the gradual way the others find out is really well-handled. Plus the worldbuilding is just really neat. Also read the sequel for some great aftermath and Lance with PTSD.

It Is Enough by nadagio
Words: 1,020
Author’s Summary: Nowhere near close to finding Shiro and uncertain what he should do now, Lance spends some quiet time with the Blue Lion.
My Comments: Really sweet fic with Blue helping Lance deal with his grief and figure out what to do next.

mostly void, partially stars by dakhtar
Words: 9,403 (WIP 3/?)
Author’s Summary: Werewolves can’t be astronauts,” Derek’s annoying voice had grumped. “Werewolves can’t be pilots. Werewolves can’t be fighter jet pilots, Lance, for God’s sake, Werewolves can’t pilot giant space robot cats that join together to become a giant space robot man and fight an evil purple bat-cat empire!” Well, he hadn’t said that last part, but Derek totally would’ve. (Alt title: seawolf)
My Comments: Teen Wolf crossover, but I haven’t seen a single episode of that show and I’m enjoying this fic very much. The worldbuilding is really cool, and I love this take on Lance and the relationships he wants and needs and is trying to build.

Going Up! by Olive_theCat
Words: 2,373 (WIP 1/?)
Author’s Summary: When Sendak is chosen over Shiro to pilot the main engine test of the new Kerberos shuttle, he’s got to take up an offer that Matt gives him: To be a camp counselor at the Galaxy Garrison summer program!Of course, herding five super-smart teenagers through some simulated astronaut training can’t be all that bad, right? What could go wrong? Well, with the help of a malfunctioning little robot named Beezer towards the end of the summer…It turns out a lot can.SpaceCamp AU (movie and real life), constructive critisism is welcome!
My Comments: Space Camp was one of those movies I watched over and over as a kid, and I can’t wait to see what my favorite space kids do in that setting. The author is having a lot of fun with it, and I am too.

Trust Fall by Pidgeon_Online
Words: 2,869
Author’s Summary: Pidge usually dealt with her issues on her own. No one needed to be bothered with her problems when she could easily deal with them herself. Especially when it came to this. There was no way she would ask anyone for help with this. Because she was fine. She didn’t need help.or
Pidge definitely needs help before her body turns completely against her.
My Comments: Poor Pidge, but I wish I had a whole team of adorable boys trying to help when I felt like this, so also not poor Pidge at all, I am jealous.

Uninvited Guest by YukiSkyes
Words: 3,375
Author’s Summary: The most interesting stories about Glasycus Mountain, said to be the gateway between Earth and the Abyss, were the ones about the black dragon that guards it. There was no end to the people stupid enough to try to find Shiro and Keith would do anything to protect him and help hide his existence. One evening, Keith comes home to someone already inside.
My Comments: This is the first of a series of nine stories so far, with the paladins in a fantasy AU, some of them not human anymore. It’s really fun, a lot of great worldbuilding, and some great character interactions. I’m really enjoying it, and I subscribed to the series.

The Once and Future Snore by hufflepirate
Words: 980
Author’s Summary: Allura and Coran think about the past. Coran can’t figure out how to tell Shiro he’s as welcome to affection as all the younger paladins. Everybody ends up in the same nap pile anyway. (Note: Everybody (on the main team) is in this, but I only individually tagged the people who do something besides trap Coran in the middle of a nap pile while he’s too asleep to know how they got there.)
My Comments: Absolutely ADORABLE cuddle puddle fic focused around Coran. And can I note how wonderful it is that cuddle puddle fic is practically a genre in this fandom? Because it is.

The Home You Make by rednight16 for psyraah
Words: 1,304
Author’s Summary: Sometimes the ones that end up close to you are the people that you least expect.
My Comments: It’s so wonderful for Shiro to have friends who he is not responsible for, who can just talk to him as adults and have conversations that don’t have anything to do with saving the world. Yet another reason I would have been happy to have Thace and Ulaz stick around on the show.

shades of blue by behestha
Words: 1,104
Author’s Summary: Eventually, Shiro’s scales reach a tipping point. OR the one where Shiro has a panic attack and Lance gently helps him.
My Comments: I love these two supporting each other in any situation, and this is lovely. Hinted Shance at the end, but reads as gen to me.

Trap by macShitFuck
Words: 1,272
Author’s Summary: Alt title: Hell or High Water You don’t consider the amount of pain and panic an animal must go through when they’re caught in a leghold trap until you’re in one yourself.
My Comments: Oh man, Hunk whump. This is brutal, but I love how he tries to calm Lance down even while he’s in horrible pain.

Turnabout is Fair Play by CondensationOnGlass for taylor_tut
Words: 7,623 (WIP 2/?)
Author’s Summary: Iconic pranks, blistering fevers, and fair play.Or, where some of the Paladins pull a joke and then get slammed with guilt about 8 hours later, and for others it is much more immediate.Based off a tumblr post by @taylor-tut. Might change the title. Multichapter, and in progress. I’m slow to update.
My Comments: Probably my second favorite fic on this list, and yes, I read what’s available twice already. It’s a very indulgent kind of hurt/comfort that I adore, and I can’t wait for more. The prank the others pull on Lance really was harmless and cute more than anything, but he just happened to be in the middle of developing a terrifying and dangerous fever, so yeah. There’s some guilt there, poor babies.

Swallow the Sun by valkyriered
Words: 1,934
Author’s Summary: Shiro has a panic attack. Kolivan tells him a story. Very background Shiro/Ulaz.
My Comments: The worldbuilding here is freaking GORGEOUS, holy smokes. Just read it.

Defying the Odds by Mists
Words: 13,562 (4/?)
Author’s Summary: *Voltron Season 3 AU* Also known as: The Continuing Adventures of Space Dad Cat! Let’s just say, a certain cockpit is not quite as empty as the paladins believe… “Highly improbable. Especially for this reality,” he haughtily said with a self important air. “The odds of which being: one trillion, seven billion, eight hundred thousand, point three, two, eight, five-” SLAV! New chapter now up! The Voltron Paladins play “Dungeons and Dragons!” Poor Hunk tries to save his campaign from Lance and Pidge. While Keith and Shiro are helplessly along for the ride. Let the craziness begin! Deep character exploration. Friendship, Humor, Team as family!
My Comments: Crack alert! This story is super fun, and I’m not just saying that because the most recent chapter has the kids playing DnD with Lance as a bard and Pidge as a rogue, nope, not at all.

The Pizza One by taylor_tut
Words: 1,268
Author’s Summary: Like four people requested an AU where Lance is a pizza delivery man and delivers a pizza to the other paladins (modern, college AU) while running a very high fever. They make sure he gets taken care of.
My Comments: This author just uploaded a whole CATALOGUE of Lance sickfics, so yeah, definitely check the author profile if you’re in the mood for a whole bunch of short fics featuring Lance injured, sick, feverish, or otherwise in need of care. I certainly enjoyed reading through the whole bunch. Picking this one out as my favorite for the way the others take in lonely, sick Lance who is just working way too hard and needs someone to look out for him. I love it.

Senmō by TheOtakuWithHazelEyes
Words: 4,399
Author’s Summary: While under the effects of an alien fever, Shiro dreams of another time when he was sick. Confused and ill, he cries out for the only person he thinks can aid him- his mother. (A moment of Shiro bonding with the paladins stemming from him being sick, and a look into his thoughts.)
My Comments: Really sweet hurt/comfort for Shiro, and some backstory that is poignant and lovely.

Day at the Beach by JackieNeedsMoreSleep
Words: 1,804
Author’s Summary: The team takes the day off to go to the beach but Pidge has to deal with Lance and some other asshole’s shit.
My Comments: Really cute, fun teamfic.

Intrinsic by buttered_onions
Words: 1,219
Author’s Summary: The first time Shiro felt the Force.
My Comments: Miss Onions just writes the BEST AUs, gah. This is full of powerful moments. I’m so proud of wee Padawan Shiro.

Lost in the Fog by oldmythologies for melonbug
Words: 2,395
Author’s Summary: Each one of them gives him something on his way back to them.
My Comments: Great take on what happened to Shiro in the S2 finale and how the others get him back.

Allura’s Twelve by windscryer
Words: 2,217
Author’s Summary: The Paladins learn that while there are a great many differences between Earth and Altean culture, movie genres are not one of them. Some things are just universal.
My Comments: Cute, fluffy teamy goodness. Just a pleasure to read.

Part of the Team by wingedflower
Words: 3,785
Author’s Summary: After a training session gone terribly wrong, Lance finally reaches his breaking point. Luckily, Coran knows exactly what to say.
My Comments: I just really really really love downhearted Lance and supportive Coran, gah, just give me all of it, just pour it over me, it’s SO GOOD.

Sweets at 7am by JackieNeedsMoreSleep
Words: 1,223
Author’s Summary: Keith walks into the kitchen to find his friends baking.
My Comments: Really cute, fluffy teamfic.

Emergency Lessons by Kalira
Words: 3,210
Author’s Summary: Pidge, Lance, and Keith land in several ‘emergencies’ and pull each other through them.
My Comments: Really lovely teamfic with a trio you don’t usually see put together. The second chapter was my favorite, but it’s all absolutely delightful.

Five Times: Keith and the Dads of Marmora by EdgarAllenPoet
Words: 4,816
Author’s Summary: [Bonus, one time it literally saved his life and he really didn’t have a choice but to roll with it]. So actually, this is a 'seven times’ fic, but that doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.“ 'If you want to rest more, I will stay. You are safe.’ Keith wondered quietly how the person talking to him now was possibly the same leader he’d met at the Blade of Marmora.”
My Comments: I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. Parts are funny and parts are poignant, but it’s all good start to finish. Favorite line: “Antok, listen. Listen, Antok. They are toddlers.”

and yet by achieving elysium (Ogygia)
Words: 1,194
Author’s Summary: After the Castle of Lions is reclaimed from Sendak, Coran finds himself left alone to his thoughts— guilt and sorrow for children who do not belong in a war. written for voltron angst week on tumblr | day one: smile
My Comments: Oh man, Coran angst always gets me in the throat. Really good stuff.

7 Times They Noticed by the_unoriginal_fox
Words: 5,549 (WIP 5/7)
Author’s Summary: Lance was alright. He was happy. He was fine. Except when he wasn’t.“Listen. Are you alright?”
“Uh…are you alright?”
“Are you okay buddy?”
“Are…are you in good health, paladin?“
Are…are you okay, paladin?”
“Hey. You okay?"His team mates, his second family - they noticed.
My Comments: It’s a genfic with Lance being supported by his entire team. I love it.

The Great Escape by Eastofthemoon
Words: 2,619
Author’s Summary: Keith did not like being cold, but he hated being chased by the Galra even more.
My Comments: The latest installment in one of my favorite Voltron fanfic series. Read it all if you haven’t before.

pairing: taehyung x reader

genre: fluff + angst

summary: you watched and watched as taehyung suffered from his one-sided love, comforting him when he cried, comforting him as he threw up those fucking flower petals. it hurt you whenever he would stare lovingly into that girl’s eyes, giggling and playing with her hair. it pained you when he kept throwing up flowers, pushing the thought that his lover didn’t love him away; he was so dejected, yet he never saw how much happiness he brought to you.

“Fuck!” The limp, weak male curled over the toilet as he slammed his hand on the ground, tears slipping out from his eyes and dripping down his face. You rubbed his back as he threw up, watching as the flowers cascaded down and into the water. They were quite beautiful, actually - the varieties of shapes and colors, how they seemed almost too perfect to exist. Yet, they had to exist in Taehyung.

Kim Taehyung, 21 years of age. Always sweet and kind, not to mention that his looks and personality caught women’s attention quickly. He had been dating a girl for almost two years now, a girl named Suha. You hated the girl’s name, not understanding how Taehyung was still by her side; the girl would date other boys behind his back, coming back to him with obvious visible hickeys that formed over time from her other “boyfriends.” He never seemed to notice them - you felt sad for Taehyung. He had searched for the one for almost his whole life, being dejected and having two day girlfriends. Suha was the only one he seemed to connect with. Well, that was what he thought. She was a liar, god damn bitch and never deserved Taehyung’s love - it made your blood boil. Your eyes watched him as he let out a dry, painful cough with a choked sob, his shaky hand clutching onto your arm - he clung to it as the flowers kept flowing out, as if he were hanging onto it for dear life. The dim light flickered for a split second, the quiet honking of the cars passing by muted by the walls of the house.

“(y/n),” Taheyung choked, attempting to speak while the flowers were beginning to become smaller in groups, hinting that the end was almost near. “I-I- water..” you let out a small sigh, putting a finger to your lips.

“No talking, Tae. It’ll be painful if you do.” You whispered softly, stroking his head slowly. The two of you sat there for about two more minutes before he could finally breathe, looking up at the ceiling. His eyes were bloodshot from the countless nights of throwing up and extremely red from the crying. You smiled and ran your thumb over his knuckles, patting his arm. “It’s over now. I’ll get you some water, alright? Stay here and don’t move.” He nodded, lowering his head and removing his hand from your arm. Standing up, you quickly forced yourself to walk towards the kitchen and grab a glass of water, staring at the clock with tired eyes as the cup was being filled. It read 3 AM, and even after all the times you stayed awake to help him, your body wouldn’t damn adjust.

Returning to Taehyung, you sat down next to him and helped him drink the water, tipping the water into his mouth. He wiped his eyes quickly, smiling at you weakly. “Thank you, (y/n). What would I ever do without you?~” He faked a sob, wrapping his arms around your waist and hugging you tightly. You let out a quiet chuckle, rocking him side to side while he drifted into sleep. Gosh, time really did seem to fly when you were with him. It was already about 5 AM, and you had classes at seven.

“Alright, lets go,” you murmured, helping him up and wrapping his arm around your neck, stumbling to his room and dropping him on his bed. You stared at him sleep peacefully, his face paler than usual. A small sigh escaping your lips once again, you turned around and shut the lights off. “Good night, Taehyung.”

Picking up the phone as it vibrated against the bathroom counter, you answered the call. “Heoo?” You asked as you brushed your teeth, staring at the mirror.

“(yn)! I’m going on another date with Suha!” Taehyung’s voice piped loudly, causing you to move the phone away from your ear. You felt yourself rolling your eyes, spitting the toothpaste out and rinsing your mouth.

“What help do you need now?” You asked, wiping your mouth with a towel and walking to your bedroom and opening the closet door.

“Aish, don’t act like I’m such a burden, (y/n)!~” He giggled over the phone while you picked out clothes, laying them on the bed. Placing the phone on the dresser and pressing the speaker button, you groaned loudly.

“Just tell me what you need help with, Tae.”

“Okie dokie!”

You quickly changed into your clothes, standing up correctly and staring at the body mirror in the corner of your room. You chose a plain, flowery blouse with the color of comforting pastel pink along with a simple pair of light blue jeans. You slipped your socks on, taking your phone off the dresser and grabbing your bag. “Alright, so what did you need again?” You spoke, taking him off the speaker and bringing the phone close to your ear, walking downstairs and grabbing your shoes.

“Okay, so I heard she likes flowers and stuff, so should I bring her flowers?”

“..Taehyung,” you let out another groan, walking out the house and shutting the door closed behind you. “yes. you should, you idiot.” He giggled as you locked the door, turning around and walking towards the college building. “I gotta go. Have fun, Taehyung.” Ending the call with a glare at the phone, you shoved it in your pocket and opened the doors to the building, rushing over to your friends waiting near the classrooms.

“(y/n)!” A girl with large, rimmed glasses waved excitedly, her short, black hair bouncing up and down.

“Hey, Jenny.” You smiled, giving a hug to everyone else.

“Somethin’ wrong? You sound tired.” Another girl spoke up quickly, her doe eyes wide and filled with worry.

“I’m fine, Yoni. Taehyung just asked me to help with Suha again, that’s it.” Your hand clutched the strap of your bag tightly as they both let out a groan of frustration.

“Come on, (y/n). Just make him break up with her. Has he not seen her with other boys already?!” Yoni sighed, tucking a piece of her loose hair behind her ear. “I mean, I know he’s been searching for, um..” quoting the air with her fingers, “the one, but he’s just super..”

“Don’t say it, Yoni.” You held up your hand, shaking your head slowly. “It’s fine. He’s just gonna keep chasing after her.” Jenny stared at you with a stoic expression, grabbing both of you and Yoni’s arm, dragging you to class.

“Whatever, that dude is too stupid anyways. Lets go to class.”

Her stingy response caused Yoni to look at you with a confused expression, eyebrows raised and mouth agape. You shrugged. Jenny never liked Taehyung in general because he was too naive and slow-minded; she, of course, according to the cliche, was the smart kid who hated the “dumb” ones. Taehyung did not fit your definition of dumb in your book, just..caught up in his own mind sometimes. Jenny proceeded to drag the two of you to class and plopped you down smack into two empty seats, ignoring the yells from the professor for walking in so abruptly, interrupting his lesson. Her face wore a smug smirk, grabbing her pencil case out and laying the supplies down on the table.

“This is..gonna be a long day, isn’t it?” Yoni whispered.

The day went by quickly, and before you knew it you were outside the college door and dialing Taehyung. It was silly, actually - how you would call him right you went out of school. People were considering that the two of you were dating, but you quickly denied that ridiculous rumor. Of course, the two of you were close; he had been friends with you since you could first remember. The light breeze blew your hair in your face as Taehyung answered the call, letting out a tired sigh.

“Let me guess,” You began to walk away from the entrance, moving the hair out your face. “she said she had something to do and left.”

“Yeah.”

“Taehyung, come to my house. Sleepover.”

“Okay!”

Beep.

You hurried over to the convenience store, grabbing as many snacks as you could and stuck a box of Pocky in your mouth, furrowing your eyebrows while you counted the price. “Okay, if I just get rid of the chips, I should be fine.” You smiled at your math skills, returning to the cashier and laying the snacks down on the table.

“Oh my, that’s a lot. Party?” The man asked as he began to scan the items, placing them in the small bags on the side.

“Yep.”

“Have fun, then.” He smiled, handing you the bags. You nodded, giving him the money and smiling back.

“Thank you!” You hurried out the store, rushing to the front of your house, bumping into Taehyung.

“Oh! (y/n)! You got snacks!” He grinned, taking some bags off your hands. You grabbed the key out of your bag, sliding it in the hole and opening the door for the two of you.

“Of course I did. We do this every time.” You told him, dropping off your bag and walking to the kitchen, pouring the snacks down.

“There’s so much! Did you get like, money from the heavens or something?!” Taehyung gasped, staring at you with wide eyes. He stared at the snacks with awe as you took a bottle of water, taking a small sip.

“I wanna make sure you don’t feel so bad when those flowers come up again.”

His face fell almost immediately, bringing his hand up to his throat and setting the bags down. “Oh, yeah. Lets get ready,” he whispered, rubbing around his throat and chuckling softly.

“She what?!” You shrieked, sitting up from the floor and dropping a chip. Taehyung laughed, laying down on the pillow.

“You’re really funny, (y/n)!” He wrapped his arms around his stomach, trying to catch his  breath. “Don’t be so serious, it’s fine! She’s super busy with her job, so she had to go!”

You fought back the urge to tell him how slow he was being, hugging your knees tightly. Taehyung continued to laugh as you played along, biting your tongue in hopes that you’d forget about it and have fun.

That was the problem; you couldn’t get rid of that feeling. That feeling that was slowly eating you up, it’s sharp teeth biting in your flesh and ripping it apart from you.The feeling when Taehyung held hands with Suha so happily, tightening his grip, then releasing her hand after she said “I don’t like that, you’re hurting me.” Your mind was swirling with questions for him - why did he love her? Why would he stay with her? Why is he making himself suffer? Doesn’t he know that he could die because of what he’s doing? Will he ever break up? Those questions pounded inside the walls of your mind, staying in place for the rest of your time with him. Fuck, he looked so happy when he finally told you he had gotten a girlfriend. His eyes were wide open, cheeks pink, almost trembling from excitement. You, of course, were also happy that he had gotten a soulmate. You thought that she would be different since he was acting so happy; but no. She was only there for his looks. For his hands to crawl all over her - she obviously didn’t think about it thoroughly and found out he was too..kind for that kind of act. She became bored, became annoyed by his presence, yet she never gave him up. She knows how much you care about him, how close the two of you were. Having the audacity to keep him to herself and make him suffer made you so angry you wished you could take him away, away from her. Away from what was giving him the most pain, the one who made his hell visible to him.

You stared at Taehyung with a smile, turning on the television. “What movie do you want?”

“I dunno..can we just watch the news?”

“The news?” You scrunched your nose, staring at him with confused sprawled all over your face. “Why?”

“Just ‘case. I wanna see how boring it is.”

You shrugged, changing the channel to a news channel and set the remote down, leaning your head against the couch leg. The news was in fact, very boring to you two. They talked about the weather, and too many commercials annoyed you. Looking up at Taehyung again, you noticed his expression changed completely. His eyes didn’t seem very..sparkly anymore. You swept it off, returning your attention to the television. After all, it was about midnight. He must feel tired, right?

“Tae, you tired?” You asked quietly, your eyes still glued to the screen.

“No, why?” He responded softly, glancing at you.

“You look off today,” you turned to face him, sitting up on your knees.

Taehyung brushed the hair out of his eyes, raising an eyebrow. “I do? Do I look sick?” He sat up, grabbing his phone out and checking his face in the camera. Letting out a loud sigh, he flopped back down on the couch, shaking his head. “I’m not tired, just bored. I wanna do something. You aren’t fun today.”

“I ran out of jokes.” You mumbled.

“But I’m bored.”

“If you’re bored, shouldn’t your girlfriend be comforting you right now!?” The words slipped off your tongue before you could think, eyes widening and clasping your hands over your mouth. Taehyung stared at you, drawn back from the sudden burst of your words and slumped down, staring up at the ceiling.

“Hey, lets not go that far. She’s busy.” He whispered, rubbing his eyes. “She told me she has a huge, huge possibility of getting a pay raise and stuff, so we have to be patient!” He sat up again, his eyes gaining it’s sparkle once again.

“Oh, that’s nice.” You replied, standing up and shuffling over to the kitchen. Pay raise, your ass. She was with one of those other boys who fell for her tricks and shit, hoping to be noticed but only broken inside. You tightened your grip on the chair as your sat down, staring at Taehyung. “Lets go to sleep, Tae. Turn off the TV.”

“Okay.”

The brightness from the television screen dimmed as he turned it off, the news reporter’s voice dying quickly. The two of you went upstairs and into your room, plopping yourself down on the ground.

“What are you doing? Go to your bed.” Taehyung pointed at the bed, tilting his head.

“Sleep on my bed tonight.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yep.”

He shrugged, jumping onto your bed and giggling to himself, slipping underneath the bed sheets. “Night, (y/n).”

He waited for you to say goodnight, letting out a soft chuckle when you said nothing and turned off the light.

You stared in horror as flowers flew out of Taehyung’s mouth, petals, leaves, all kinds fluttering down onto your bedroom floor. He was on his knees, gasping for breath as he threw up, the noise he made tightening your heart into a knot. “Taehyung, why didn’t you wake me up?!” You rushed to his side, turning on the light and pulled his hair away from his eyes, gulping nervously as his body began to shake.

“Breathe, Tae. Breathe, okay?” You whispered, patting his bad comfortingly while you whispered in his ear, telling him to breathe and saying he’ll be alright. His eyes began to tear up as the flowers continued to grow in group sizes, and began to worry you as it kept flooding out his mouth longer than usual.

Three hours passed before he finally calmed down, wiping his mouth and collapsing on his side, falling onto the pile of flowers. “Tae, are you alright?” You asked quickly, staring at him with concern.

“Why do flowers come out?! This isn’t normal, (y/n)! Shouldn’t we go to the doctors? There must be something wrong, I know Suha loves me, it’s-” He broke down in tears, grabbing your arm and pulling himself closer to hug you. You sat there, frozen, as his tears soaked into your shirt, his loud cries echoing throughout the small room you had. Your shaky hand ran through his hair, using your free arm to hug him tightly.

“We can’t go to the doctors, remember? Everything will go wrong,” you explained, keeping your voice quiet so he could stay calm, which wasn’t a very good idea, since he was crying after all. “I’m sure she..loves you.” You cringed at your words, knowing damn well she hated Taehyung.

“T-Then why are th..these flowe-rs c-c-coming out?” He choked, burying his face in the crook of your neck, scratching the back of your shirt with his nails. You stared at him, wondering how hard it was for him to go from a happy man to such a miserable person in such a short amount of time.

A/N: This fic is requested by @ortonaholic !! I hope I did your idea justice, it came out waaayyyy longer than I anticipated tbh.

ALSO, I made this fic interactive because I was requested to give the OC a name but I don’t really like naming the OC’s for the soul purpose of the readers not being able to truly place themselves within the story. Therefore, if you type your name in the little box, a magic computer fairy will insert your name in the fic (whaaaat!?) PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS WILL NOT WORK ON MOBILE SORRY. With that being said, I hope you all enjoy!

A/N:
Hello lovely people,

This is the last part of All I Wanted. I had a blast writing this and I want to thank you all for the kind words regarding this story (or any other of course). It’s been a fun way for me to make fun of my disastrous love life and I’m glad you’ve accepted me with such open arms.

Enjoy the last part,

Lots of love,

“I’ll see you later love.” I smile into the receiver as I bid Calum goodbye. Calum didn’t want to end things, but that didn’t mean that Meredith had let things go. Two, almost three weeks had passed and I hadn’t heard from my best friend since. I would feel betrayed too, but I would appreciate it if she could at least try to be happy for me. She said so herself – Calum had changed since we started hooking up, and it had only gotten better now that I was his girl.

“Of course, babe. I’ll phone you later.” Calum answers before I hear the click and the annoying tune, indicating our telephone conversation had ended. I slide my phone back into my pocket as I let my gaze wander back to the make-up articles in front of me. I had decided to treat myself with a little shopping spree and my first stop was new eyeshadow and lipstick.

“Y/n…”

I freeze in my spot when I hear her voice, clutching the eyeshadow I had taken off of the rack in my fist. I slowly turn my head and raise my eyebrows when I see a nervous Meredith staring at me with the tiniest of smiles of her lips. “Uh, hi?”

“Hi. Uh – it’s been a while.” She mumbles and I refrain myself just in time from scoffing as I avert my gaze from hers. It hadn’t been my choice to let it ‘have been a while’. I wouldn’t go all out and say I wasn’t in the wrong because I clearly was, and I was aware of that, but Meredith not answering any of my calls or texts was a ball that was in her court.

“Yeah, I guess.” I mutter back, dropping the eyeshadow back in its original place while I focus on another part of the aisle, hoping to get away soon before we’d starting fighting again.

“Do you – uh, do you have time for a chat?” I turn completely, my whole body facing hers as I watch her rather tentative posture. Normally Meredith was filled with confidence – a bit too much if you asked me, it leaned more towards arrogance sometimes – but now she was a trembling mess. I guess it had done her worse than it had done me. On the other hand, I had Calum supporting me whenever I had a mental breakdown about this friendship.

“Now?” I am kind of perplexed to run into her here – although the city wasn’t that large, you never ran across someone around here. And I know Meredith had purposely been avoiding me these past days. I cross my arms across my chest, still not quite sure what she desires of me – and right now I wish I could call Calum and ask for his advice.

“Okay look, I’m sorry Y/n. I overreacted I know that and if you decide to not be friend anymore that’s fine by me, seems a bit impossible though with all the –“ I scrape my throat to stop her rambling. She takes a few seconds to recollect herself before she speaks again. “Let’s talk this out, please? Over a cup of coffee?”

“Okay, fine.” The nerves have slowly dissipated knowing that she isn’t here to yell furiously at me some more, but rather to talk it out among friends. That doesn’t mean all of the nerves are gone yet though, seeing as how this could easily turn out into a complete disaster – something that had happened multiple times in our friendship over the years.

***************

I had laid my cards out on the table, telling her everything that had happened in the past three months, skipping on some of the passionate details but emphasizing how I felt about Calum from the start. I wanted her to know that this wouldn’t be some fling that would tear our friendship apart. If Calum and I ever decided to part ways, I wasn’t planning on staying away from the Hood residence all together. Meredith was still my best friend and I wasn’t planning on changing that anytime soon.

“So… It was you Calum asked me advice about?” Meredith questions for the second time since our first cup of coffee and this conversation started. It had gotten a lot better than I expected and I weren’t one to complain.

“I guess so, that I don’t know. If it were anyone else he wouldn’t have gotten a second chance, let alone a third one.” I laugh wickedly, finishing off with an awkward ‘ah’ at the end as our conversation falls back to silence. “Well, if we’re being honest with one another…” Meredith starts off and I feel my eyes widening as I bite my bottom lip.

“I think if Luke and I didn’t talk, I wouldn’t have spoken to you ever again.” Meredith starts stirring her cup absentmindedly as she tries to avoid my gaze. “Luke caught us, I didn’t plan on him knowing.” I start defending myself, but Meredith shuts me up with a sigh.

“I know. He told me. He also told me you both seemed smitten about each other and I would be a bad friend and a bad sister if I at least didn’t support two of such important people in my life.” I smile when I realize it’s the first time she has voiced her approval of me dating Calum.

“I’m glad you’re not pissed at me anymore. I really need my best friend to gossip with.” I laugh as I grasp Meredith’s hand and give it a firm squeeze. “I missed you too.”

“Are you seeing Calum today?” Meredith asks as she waves at the waiter for our check. I still feel kind of awkward answering any question about her brother but she really seems like she wants to keep being my best friend, so I have to be honest with her like I was before.

“Yeah, I was supposed to meet him later.” I push a few coins towards Meredith to cover my drinks and get up to put on my coat. “Oh, we should hang out later, I’ll ask Michael too.” I am reluctant to agree, but if I want to keep these charades up there is nothing else I can say besides “Oh, okay. That sounds great.” My smile is not genuine and I think she notices, but her smile is even more forced that I imagine mine displays. “I’ll see you later then.” I press my lips against her cheek and walk out of the bar.

*****************

“What a surprise to see you here so soon.” Calum grins at me, clad in only his boxer shorts as he leans down to greet me with a kiss. The kiss is shortened as I pull away and push past Calum to be indoors. “I ran into Meredith right after I spoke to you. We talked.”

“Oh?” Calum smiles as he closes the door and lets his arm snake around my waist. “You don’t seem surprised.” I state, absentmindedly dragging my fingers along Calum’s exposed arm, pressing my back against his solid chest. “Not really, no.”

I hum, turning around in his arms as he starts kissing my neck again. “Calum…”

“I saw her in the morning. We talked things through. It would be a nick of time before she spoke to you too.” Calum hums contently as he pushes me backwards, towards the stairs, while I struggle against him. “Why didn’t you say anything?”

“Because I wanted to talk to you about this personally, not over the phone. Now…” Calum grins as he presses his lips against mine feverishly, my eyelids immediately fluttering closed. I enjoy the moment, Calum’s hand roaming along my back before they rest on my bum, which they give a firm squeeze.

“Calum?” Our make-out stops when we hear Meredith’s voice from the kitchen. We part ways and step aside when the kitchen door opens and reveals Meredith, Michael behind her.

“Oh hey. Didn’t know you would be here.” Meredith smiles awkwardly, a grin we reciprocate. It’s quiet for just the longest second and I breathe a sigh of relief as Michael speaks up.
“Hey, wanna hangout? I brought my guitar.” He motions to the large pack on his back and I know it’s more towards Calum but I’m thankful he decides to break the tension. I wouldn’t be surprised if he had no clue what was going on and how badly he had helped us out just now.

“Yeah, of course, I’ll get some pants on.” Calum grins at me before he jogs up the stairs and leaves me there to awkwardly smile at Meredith as Michael disappears from sight. Meredith turns around and motions for me to follow her and I do so without a word.

“Want anything?” She motions to the fridge and I shrug my shoulders, indicating I didn’t mind whatever she gave me. I’m handed a beer and follow her outside, Michael already soaking up the cool spring sun.

Calum joins us soon after and takes a seat beside me. He doubted at first, clearly contemplating if it were okay to sit beside me with his sister around. He settles for his hand on my knee, a completely ignorant gesture but something so huge to where we came from.

It’s awkward, and even that’s an understatement, but I have absolutely nothing to talk about. The last few weeks had been revolving around the guy beside me, and I wasn’t going to tell my dirty little secret to Meredith – in hopes of reconciling, of course – with the male of said stories right beside me.

“I’ve invited Luke as well; hope you don’t mind.” Michael states absentmindedly, tweaking the strings of is guitar. My eyes are glued to the neck of the musical instrument but inside I’m grinning brightly. I could talk to Luke, my new found friend, and this awkwardness would all go away.

It were a few quiet, very quiet six minutes. As I hear the fence click, indicating Luke’s arrival, I almost want to fly out of my seat and go greet him up front – almost.
Calum’s hand on my knee is the only thing stopping me right now. It would look quite weird if I were so giddy to meet my boyfriend – it still tastes sweet on my tongue – his best mate.

“Hi guys, what’s up!” Luke yells as he appears in sight, stopping in his tracks as he feels the tension. The air is thick and I won’t deny it. I really want this to work though so I hope Luke plans on being my glue.

“Why are you looking like that Luke? I know.” Meredith smiles coyly as she gazes from Calum’s outstretched arm to Luke’s I-am-trying-to-be-stoic-features. I jump as I hear her voice and hold in my breath as Luke gazes from me to Meredith and back to me before his mouth opens.

“I know that you know. You thought this hiding shit from everyone was bad for you? How do you think it was for me? I am such a blabber mouth; my cat knows everything!” Luke stammers hysterically, pointing at Calum and I, drawing laughs out of all of our mouths.

Thank you for being my glue. I mentally thank Luke, smiling brightly at him as he winks at me. “Glad it worked out for you, little one,” Luke ruffles my hair and drops down beside me, “Although I am disappointed in you two. You could show some more love, I know you have it in you!”

You would think Luke would make things awkward again, but Meredith grins brightly – genuinely, not forced this time – as Calum gazes from her to me. Calum leans over to press his lips against my cheek and Luke ‘ooh’s like a little girl, clapping his hands like a retarded seal.

“I am so happy we’re done from keeping shit from our friends.” Luke sighs as he takes a swig from my beer, a loud scoff passing my lips as he does so. He is right. I’m elated as well.

“You’re right.” Meredith grins and lifts her glass, ushering us to toast. I look around and see Luke smugly grin as he holds my beer up to the middle of the table, a pout present on my lips. “Well I don’t have a drink to toast with, not anymore at least.”

Calum’s arm winds around my waist and easily slides me from my seat at the table onto his lap, pushing his beer into my hands as his hands rest on my waist. “Use mine.”
“One word frees us of all the weight and pain of life; friendship.” Luke grins, probably amazingly proud that he came up with such a sophisticated quote.

“Isn’t that love instead of friendship?” Meredith grins as she raises an eyebrow at a non-suspecting Luke who starts chuckling loudly after. “Laughter is the shortest distance between people.”

I slap his shoulder lightly as I shake my head, “Stop it!”, rolling my eyes before I let them scan over my friends. He had a point there, though. Laughter brings people together and maybe without knowing, maybe not, Luke had glued one of the first little pieces of this back together. A nice set of friends, a loving boyfriend and my best friend back at my side. I guess I got all I wanted.

First things first- I’m not a native English speaker, I suck hard at grammar and some additional things and -you know.. I’m a bit shaky articulating myself - read with this warning in mind and have fun!

Some time ago I happened to catch an episode of Flapjack on TV. Each time I see it I get more impressed by this show– each time it seems wilder and more vibrant than the last time – just the finest breed of unpredictable. And maaaan I love the location of this show. This filthy, moldy, contagious harbor, isolated in the eye of the dead sea but containing so much bursting life in its small belly. God I love the possibilities of this place – its so fun how it expands and shrinks according to the story, almost as if its it own independent character, it’s silent but it moves and talks and reacts and breathes. This makes it feel so much bigger and exiting – I could gawk  at this gorgeous art design forever, and I probably will, but I got caught of guard and distracted by the the end credits for a moment-

Roadtrip? Just Us? (Namjoon)

Genre: Oneshot, Fluff

Pairing: Namjoon x Reader (Rap Monster x Reader)

Group: BTS

Summary: You were supposed to go on a road trip with your broth Jin and his best friend Namjoon (Namjoon AKA your crush). But, your brother gets the flu right before your supposed to leave, so its just you and Namjoon. This could be the perfect time to confess your feelings.

“WHAT TO DO YOU MEAN YOU CANT GO!?!?!” I shouted to my brother as he lied in his bed, he was a bit greener than usual.

“Y/N i told you, i have the flu. I can’t go, do you want me to puke while we’re in the car? No, nobody want that Y/N.” He said to me.

“You are still going, Namjoon will be sad if the trip is cancelled. And you don’t want your future husband sad, do you?” He said to me with a smirk on his face.

I hit his arm and he yelped in pain.

“Fine, i’ll go, but its not because you asked me to Jin.” I said to Jin and exited his room.

Just as i went to turn on the TV the doorbell rang.  Namjoon was outside, waiting for me and Jin,  my heart starts to race. Stupid feelings, we aren’t even dating, but i wish we were. Jin flew in from his bedroom, blanket in hand looking like a cape. Yes, he’s the pink princess superhero, he bakes the good and burns the evil. He opened the door and let Namjoon inside the house. Play it cool Y/N.

“Hi Namjoon, sorry i cant make it on the trip *cough, cough* I’ve fallen ill, i might die. It’ll just be you and Y/N.” He said to Namjoon with a fake sick voice.

“Oh, thats okay, your sisters cool.” Namjoon replied, i though i saw him blushing, probably not, BUT, maybe.

“Y/N GET YOU ASS OVER HERE ITS TIME TO GO!!!” Jin called out for me.

I came from the top of the stairs where i was creeping on their conversation before. I had my bags in hand, ready for a week of just me and Namjoon. NAMJIN IS DEAD, its NamY/N now.

“You look nice Y/N.” Namjoon said and grabbed one of my two bags and we started walking to the car.

I blushed at his comment, before getting in the car Jin pulled me aside.

“Don’t. Mess. This. Up.” Is all he said to me.

“Bye! Have fun!” Jin waved us goodbye as I got in Namjoons car.

The ride was pretty quiet for the first half hour, i had my headphones on and read a book, Namjoon had the radio on. I took my headphones off and started listening to the radio. My favourite song came on ‘Agust D by Agust D’ Not to brag, but, i know the whole rap part. I turned up the volume, Namjoon smiled. I bet he didn’t expect me to know how to rap like a freaking GOD.

A to the G to the U to the STD I’m D BOI” I sang.

It was almost the best part, the super fast epic rap part. My time to shine.

“Do you know the rap part?” Namjoon asked.

“You bet i do.” i replied.

I did the epic rap part flawlessly and brushed my shoulders off.

“Damn, i wasn’t expecting that! That was awesome!!” Namjoon exclaimed

“Thanks.” I blushed.

The rest of the ride was awesome, we sang song and bonded over our shared love for music.

“How much longer?” I asked

“3 hours, we’ve been in the car for 2 hours already.” Namjoon answered.

“UGH!!” I was tiered.

Namjoon laughed.

“We can stop and get some food, if you want.” He asked

“Sure!!” I excitedly said.

Living with Jin, there is a lot of food, like A LOT of food. Food is my life, i might have an addiction.

“We can get some desserts or something like that, cause i made us some sandwiches for actual food.” Namjoon said

“YES!!” I exclaimed. I love dessert even more than food.

We drove for another 15 minutes, i was looking out the window trying to see where Namjoon would stop. He finally stopped at a small pastry shop. We walked in and i ran to the display case of all the food. Admiring all the gifts from God. Namjoon laughed again.

“Hi, Can i have 2 chocolate mousses and one piece of the red velvet cake, please” Namjoon order at the front counter.

I was practically shaking with excitement. Ready to eat the delightfulness that is dessert, and i am eating them with Namjoon, one of my favourite people.

“Young love is so cute.” The lady said as she handed us our treats.

Namjoon and I blushed at her comment, our red faces made her giggle. We went back to the car to enjoy the food.

“Here, dig in!” Namjoon handed me a bowl of chocolate mousse.

We clinked our bowls together and said ‘cheers’. We finished our mousses fairly quickly and sat there, our bellies still empty, wanting, nay, needing more desserts. Namjoon pulled out the slice of cake he ordered.

“We can share.” He said and pulled out 2 forks from a picnic basket.

“Wait!” I shouted.

I grabbed the AUX cord an plugged my phone in. i play ‘Ice Cream Cake by Red Velvet’ and started jammin.

“You get it? Because its red velvet cake, and I’m playing a Red Velvet song!” I snickered.

Namjoon shook his head while slightly giggling.

“You’ve been hanging out with Jin too much.” He said and put the plate with the cake in the middle of us.

We dug in and enjoyed every bite, the Red Velvet in the background was a nice song to dance to. Dancing and eating, a nice activity, especially with friends.

We finished the cake and Namjoon started driving once again. I fell asleep, so i have no idea what happened for about an hour and a half-ish. I woke up and saw the car was parked in a gas station and it was dark outside.

“Oh, good morning sleepyhead.” Namjoon said and entered the car.

He drove away again, BACK ON THE ROAD. Namjoon handed me a bottle of pop (soda).

“Here, i thought you might like one.” He said.

“Oh, Ya, Thanks.” I said to him.

We listened to music and Namjoon drove for another hour and a half. It was fun. We arrived at a small cabin, it was surrounded by trees and a lake.

“Welcome, this is my cabin.” Namjoon said and opened the door to a cabin.

He was carrying his many bags and i grabbed the two bags i brought. We went into the cabin and picked who got which room. There was a small room, a big room and a medium sized room. we flipped a coin, i wanted the big bedroom, more room for my computer and chips Netflix marathon. I chose tails he chose heads.

“HA!! HEADS!!” Namjoon exclaimed.

“BIG ROOM IS MINE!” He said and ran to the big room, well, not really ran, more like limp, cause he had all of his bags.

I’ll be in the medium room than. Thats okay, still enough room for me.
Namjoon and I went right to sleep when we got in our rooms, it was around 11 pm ish so, we were pretty tiered out from all the traveling. Tomorrow, thats when i’ll confess my feelings.

I was woken up at around 3am because someone was shaking me.

“Hey. Y/N!! Wake up!” Namjoon called out for me to wake up.

“What?” I asked kinda angrily, don’t wake me up from my nice slumber.

“Follow me” He said.

So i followed him, he led me outside onto the deck. It was lit up with candles and flower pedals. Namjoon?

“Y/N? I-i-i I like you.” He stuttered.

“I was gonna tell you tomorrow, but, the anticipation was killing me” He said, looking at the floor.

I was shook. I was gonna confess to him but he confessed to me. Its like a real life fan fiction!

“I like you to Namjoon” I said.

“Will you be my girlfriend?” He asked.

I hugged him.

“Of course” I whisper to him.

SETLIST FOR 30STM ONLY:

Up In the Air

Conquistador

This is War

Kings and Queens

The Kill (ACOUSTIC!

Attack (Just the chorus, also acoustic!)

City of Angels

Do or Die (This is where people go on stage)

Closer to the Edge (Last song, this is where people left the stage).

I honestly have nothing but wonderful things to say about my entire experience tonight. Even some nice ladies in front of me said they had been to countless rock and heavy metal concerts but nothing could ever top 30STM for them. AND I AGREE.

This was the stage set up. Huge triad in the back and Jared looking like a Gucci Priest, the usual get up! He had so much energy and he sang very chord with all the passion and willpower in his being. He sounds absolutely amazing live, my words don’t do enough justice for his talent.

He started off with the first four songs in full blast, he played guitar for them and everyone was going absolutely nuts. It wasn’t until 30STM appeared that the crowds stood up to sing and dance and interact with the performers.

During the middle of it before he went to sing The Kill he got off stage and moved to see the people in the back and he sang for them, which was absolutely incredible and sweet. There was no crowd surfing but he pointed out a small child from the audience and asked his name and where he was from and if there were any other kids in the audience, how he did in the last tour. He was very happy and glad to be there, always pumping up the crowd, calling us crazy and loud and fun and all that good stuff. He pointed out that they hadn’t taken the stage in almost two years and how nice it was to be back to perform for his fans.

Lots of dry ice all over the place, but no confetti or balloons.

As to how I got on stage, one of the girls working for them just picked me from where I was sitting before the entire concert started and told me that she would give me a flag to hold for their performance and that during Do or Die and Closer to The Edge I’d be able to go on stage and jump around with him. When City of Angels came on, Shayla gave me a paper to sign (honestly I did’t even read it, I was too in shock, but it must have been a compliance form/contract promising good behavior while I was around Jared and the guys). Then I went back stage and waited for Do or Die and then went up with them until the very end.

Tomo and Shannon were also very powerful in their performances, no faults here in case you guys were wondering.

It had been two years since they performed all together and really they were nothing short of perfect. NO mistakes. They must have been nervous at first but it happens, they’re human.

And I know you guys expected new songs but… honestly I had the time of my life with what they played and everyone else was just as excited about it.

And yes… I know… he was in Gucci and he was sweating in it, but what of it?  I think even Muse came out wearing Gucci?? So don’t think too hard about what he was wearing, because it doesn’t matter, or what he played, if you’re really there for them its worth every dollar, every minute, and every scream that you will let out if you go.

Note: Yes, there was supposed to be a phone call and it was supposed to be at the end of City of Angels but I was backstage already when that happened, so i did not get to see for sure! Sorry!
