Draco ran his finger along the rim of his empty glass absently. The edges of his vision swam as he looked up at the bartender who raised a single perfectly groomed eyebrow at him.

“Another?” she asked.

Draco closed his eyes briefly, squeezing them until they ached, “Bring me… whatever’s next on the menu.”

“Yeah, alright,” she smirked, taking his empty glass, “What did you think about the French 75 then?”

“Nice, lovely,” Draco said absently, not entirely sure he could remember precisely what the last drink had tasted like.

“One Dark n’ Stormy, comin’ up,” she said brightly.

Draco sighed he fished a few more muggle notes from his pocket and shoved it on the other side of the bar. She had been very friendly all night not that he was surprised. There weren’t many people in the bar on a tuesday evening, much less a sad drunk wizard who was likely overpaying a great deal because he honestly couldn’t be arsed to check the numbers on his flimsy paper money.

He ignored her attempts at conversation when she returned and took the tall glass of what tasted like rum and ginger beer. Draco was prepared to stumble through something approximating a conversation when someone sat beside him, ordering a rum and coke and sending her off.

Draco blinked, his brow furrowing, the voice beside him had sounded familiar. Draco turned slowly so his head wouldn’t fall off and found the other bloke watching him curiously. The other bloke that looked remarkably, disturbingly, identical to Harry Potter.

Potter tried on a hesitant smile, “What’s a pretty thing like you doing in a place like this?”

Dan smut at the movies?

DAN X READER SMUT
- dan surprising you with movie tickets to a horror film you had been eager to see for a few weeks to celebrate you being off work

- getting ready, you decide on wearing a skirt as you had just shaved and wanted to be able to appreciate your silky limbs

- walking down to the car where dan was waiting as he goes wide eyed for a moment, completely in awe of the goddess in front of him

- the drive to the theater was a quick one, neither one of you speaking much but occupying your time by playing with his fingers

- saving two seats at the back of the rather packed cinema as dan leaves to grab popcorn and drinks for you both

- he returns right as the credits begin, his hand finding its usual place resting on your knee

- unknowingly to you, dan was a man with a plan and he expected you to be screaming by the end of the movie and not because of the horror within it

- about half of the way through the movie, you feel his hand start to creep up your inner thigh, teasing you as a sex scene rolls on screen

- the thought of dan touching you in front of all the theater gets you going and you squeeze your thighs shut in attempt to avoid the inevitable

- needless to say, dans hand finds itself on the outside of your panties, tracing your sensitive nub and you begin growing wetter by the second

- dan leaning over to whisper, some may think about the movie but this wasn’t the case

- “i’m going to make you scream babygirl, you’re going to come all over my fingers, aren’t you?”

- at that point, all of your (useless) defenses were dropped and all you could do was nod, needing his touch

- dans hand slipping into your panties as he slings his other arm around your shoulder to look more natural

- his pace starts slow but quickly you find yourself being hit hard and deep by his long delicate fingers, making your toes curl

- before you know it you are seconds away from orgasm and dan is not letting up, you lean over to beg him to slow down because you know if not you would accidentally scream

- “dan, agh, please, im going to scream,” you whimper as it approaches and dan slides his big hand to cover your mouth as he goes harder and faster

- “fuck!” you scream, coming on dans fingers as he chuckles beside you and half the theater looks back to you

- embarrassed you nestle into dans arm, hiding your red face from the crowd

- “fuck you dan, one of these days you’re gonna get it,” you whisper as he holds back laughter, “i’ll be waiting, princess”

BONUS:

- a theater attendant coming up to you five minutes after your little “climax” and asking you both to leave as you were a “distraction” to other guests

- leaving the theater, your face glowing red and dan in tears from laughing, smacking your booty softly before getting in the car

- “guess i’m a crowd pleaser” he winks before placing a soft kiss on the corner of your mouth

[App Review]—LingoDeer (Japanese)

**EDIT** The LingoDeer team read my review and fixed some of the things I pointed out :>

Learning Japanese?? I was originally going to review LingoDeer’s Chinese lessons next, but I was contacted by the team who developed the app and the lessons after the read my review on the Korean course. They asked if I was learning Japanese and, if so, if I could do a similar review for the Japanese course (please note that I have never done any sort of sponsored review or anything like that; I review what I want and I review them honestly). I said I would, so here we are! Maybe this will get me back on track with studying Japanese, anyway. Those of you who were around during this blog’s early stages will remember I was studying Japanese for a while, but I had to abandon it because I just didn’t have enough time ㅠㅠ Welp, it’s time to start again!

I do want to note that, other than the obvious language difference between this review and my review of LingoDeer’s Korean course, there is also a huge difference in my perspective between both of these reviews. Having studied Korean for over seven years now, my LingoDeer Korean review was done more from a been-there-done-that perspective. A lot of my intuition as not only a long-term Korean learner but also a Korean grammar blogger and a language teacher went into it. However, I am nowhere near the same level in Japanese, so this review is written from much more of a beginning learner perspective, with a bit of my teacher brain as far as what is and isn’t effective for language learning thrown in.

Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s jump on in!

What is LingoDeer?

LingoDeer is a language-learning app for the three major east Asian languages, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, and Japanese. It is developed by teachers of those three languages, so that’s pretty cool!

Very first impressions

As I said in my review of LingoDeer (Korean), the LingoDeer app’s design and interface is very clean and visually appealing. I do get some loading screens still, but none of them are super long unless I’m on my home Wifi. I’d been thinking about maybe getting a new, stronger router anyway…

Learning Hiragana and Katakana

You can start with learning Hiragana and Katakana, or you can just skip it and go straight to learning the actual grammar and other material. For the sake of this review (and since my Katakana memory has always been pretty bad), I did the Hiragana and Katakana courses. Before you start a level in the Alphabet section, you can flip a toggle for whether you want to learn Hiragana or Katakana. Ultimately, though, it doesn’t really matter since they are presented together and you will be asked to match the corresponding Hiragana and Katakana. I have actually never used a source that teaches them together in this way, and I really like it because it made it easier for me to remember the Katakana. The main differences between doing one writing system vs. the other (for example, choosing to do them in Katakana mode instead of Hiragana) is that you will only be presented with stroke order diagrams for the set you chose, and they will occur more frequently. At the end of the day, the choice is yours.

Again, the sound files in this app are really great, so you can hear the sounds very clearly. My only real issue with the Hiragana/Katakana-learning exercises is when you have to match multiple pairs at once. There are a few screens like that at the end of each level, and if you want to hear the readout of the sounds as you do them, you have to flip a toggle on the screen because the sound is off by default. Since this is a language learning app, I really think it would make more sense to have the sound on by default. Also, you have to flip the toggle every new screen rather than flipping it once and that being your setting for the level. Having to flip it every single time just to get the automatic audio got annoying pretty quickly.

Just as the Korean course had extensive Hangul charts, there are interactive Hiragana and Katakana charts in the Japanese course. You can click on the individual spaces to have the sounds read out, which I liked. However, there seems to be a little bug such that sometimes when I go to the charts they don’t read out when I press the spaces. In those cases, I have to restart the app for the charts to work properly.

Finally, there are notes explaining the Japanese writing system, and they’re quite extensive! This app certainly does give a lot of information.

Getting in to learning

This app is currently structured 100% for beginners in the sense that you must start with the first level. There is no way to test up into a higher level. This test up feature is there in other comparable apps, so its absence here is very noticeable. Until such a function is (hopefully) added in, anyone who wants to use this app will have to obligatorily do the lower levels first regardless of their skill level.

All of the actual learning levels have grammar notes at the beginning, which you can access if you swipe to the tile left of the first lesson tile. I think it would make more sense to have the notes tile be the first one you see, as it is easy to miss and the notes give a ton of important information that beginning learners really should read. The notes are detailed and very helpful, but there are some typos here and there, and I noticed some unusual Romaji (though I’m not sure if it’s just that they were using a different Romaji system… are there multiple Romaji systems??). The word for “China,” which I had always seen before in Romaji as “ch(y)uugoku,” was written as “tyuugoku,” which threw me off.

When you get into the learning levels, you can choose how you want writing to be displayed, and there are a TON of options! You can go for full on normal Japanese writing with the Kanji and all, Kanji with Hiragana (my setting), Hiragana only, Romaji only, Hiragana and Romaji… you can choose what would suit your needs best and adjust as you become more comfortable reading Japanese.

As for actually learning, there is a variety of activities including word-picture matching, listening and choosing the right answer, inserting grammatical elements into the right places, and unscrambling sentences, and more. The only thing that I really wish the learning levels has is some speaking practice! I’ve said it many, many times before, but HelloChinese is a similarly structured app that has speaking practice built into all of its levels. If LingoDeer also had it, I would be so happy~ Also, as I mentioned in my LingoDeer (Korean) review, this app is fairly quiet in the sense that it does not automatically read out sentences for you on some screens, and there is no indication given that you can access audio for those screens. It would be nice if there was maybe a little play button to make it clear that you can hear audio on those screens with no auto play, or maybe an overall option (that could be toggled on or off as you please, of course) for automatic audio playback.

One other little bone I have to pick is that, when doing syllable-by-syllable unscrambling of sentences, the app starts indicating what the first syllable you pick should be within about three seconds. Maybe some people like the hints, but I could do without them for sure. I would be happy if the time to hinting was increased, or if there was a toggle to turn it off completely.

Upon completion of a level, you can get up to five stars. When you first start studying, you set a goal for how many stars you want to get each day, and if you choose the lowest possible number (five) and do a single level perfectly, your study for the day is complete.

The biggest error I have seen in this course so far is that the notes in the “Household” section (as far as I got so far) are missing ㅠㅠ I sent a report in, so hopefully that’s fixed soon. Considering how responsive the LingoDeer team has been to me so far, I’m fairly confident it will be fixed soon.

Overall, I like the structure of the lessons and the pacing. I could definitely see myself using this app long term!

Review and stats

(This section is more or less copypasta from my previous review, so feel free to skip it if you read that one!)

If you want to go back and review vocab or grammar flashcards, there is a section where you can do that. The review questions are the same as the regular level questions. You can choose to do a single lesson, or you can combine lessons for a comprehensive review. Also, there is spaced repetition listening practice, which is pretty cool. You can choose how you want the words and sentences presented, with Japanese, the English translation, or just the audio and no writing. After listening, you can reveal the correct answer and rate your recall/performance “weak,” “good,” or “perfect.” You can also choose if you want a word or sentence-focused review. Seems like a good feature.

As for stats, you can check how long your learning streak has been ongoing, and it even tells you how long you have studied for. There are some little achievement badges for things like learning time and streaks also. You can also set a time for reminders to study if you would like. However, I notice that the app is not synced to your phone’s clock but some other clock, perhaps that of the server it’s hosted on. So, for example, if I use the app in the morning here in Korea, it will still count any stars I get to the previous day since the app’s date hasn’t rolled over yet. There is not an option to change the app’s clock to sync to your time zone as far as I can tell.

Oh, and there is offline learning! You can download the course take it with you if you are, say, going on a flight or off to some remote area where there is no internet or cell service!

Conclusion

LingoDeer’s Japanese course is really fun and easy to use! The grammar notes are very informative, and the lessons are not too heavy so they don’t feel burdensome or intimidating to a new learner. The pros and cons:

PROS:

  • GREAT audio files
  • Lots of good notes and information on grammar
  • Spaced repetition practice and flashcards
  • Study reminders
  • Lessons that are informative and useful without being overwhelming
  • Offline learning

CONS:

  • No function to test out of lower levels
  • Typos in notes and other places
  • App clock not synced to phone clock
  • No speaking practice
An Incredibly Minor Yet Underrated Marvel Character

SO imagine this. You are a member of an proud and violent warrior race. You are the handmaiden to the less violent, but probably still p proud Princess of the intergalactic empire that most of your race belongs to. One day, your Princess, whom you have served loyally for many years, gets into some bullshit star-crossed lover biz with a man who is 1) a member of the race your race has been fighting since basically forever, B) A member of the organization that has consistently opposed your empire, and Lastly) who lives on a different planet and is therefore not gonna be around when she predictably finds out she is having his goddamn baby, because of course she is.

So your Princess has this illegitimate half alien baby now, and her Dad (your Emperor) is like “wow, no” and tries to have it executed on the grounds of he doesn’t like it and he’s in goddamned charge. And the Princess is looking at you, and her eyes are doing that thing were they’re really big and sad, and her lips all pout-y, and if you had the frame of reference you would totally call her out on doing the puppy eye thing but you don’t. So what do you do?

You take the weird hybrid baby to his baby daddy, effectively exiling yourself from your home planet, to go live on a planet were Everyone Actually Really Totally Hates You, also known as Earth(y).

Sadly, when you get to earth, were you expect to find help from the legendary super-powered princess impregnating warrior hero guy and his buds, you find that the guy has quite rudely kicked the bucket. So here you are, on a hostile alien planet, with no one to help your exiled self or your exiled prince who is half a species you have almost no experience with and also has a price on his head despite the fact he is not yet strong enough to lift said head without help. So again, what do you do?

You become a realtor.

Yeah, that’s right. You get a fucking job. You settle the fuck down. You take a fucking Pilates class. You raise the weird fucking hybrid baby. In fact, you do not just raise the weird fucking hybrid baby; You love and cherish the weird fucking hybrid baby. You teach the exiled heir to your proud, violent, warrior race to be a sweet ‘lil nerd, who loves pokemon, and comic books, and tries to talk through confrontations, and occasionally hits you with those puppy-dog eyes that got you into this mess in the first place. You don’t complain though. You don’t complain when you’re Prince gets sick and there is literally no one on earth to turn to (because who on earth has ever seen a skrull/kree hybrid, much less treated one?). You don’t complain when you hear Galactus destroys your homeworld and everyone on it (how can you explain to your Prince that you’re grieving for his mother when you’re right there?). You don’t complain when the Super-Skrull burst through the wall of you adopted son’s friend-who-is-totally-not-his-boyfriend-mom-oh-my-god’s apartment and demands your baby go with him. Because you are not someone who backs down from a challenge.

You pull out a gun and you challenge the greatest warrior of your proud, violent warrior race.

You lose.

You die.

But it’s all right. Your son’s not-boyfriend will save him. Your weird alien hybrid baby will become a weird alien hybrid hero, and later, a weird alien hybrid King. Somewhere, your Princess and her bullshit star-crossed lover are very proud. Somewhere else, the galaxies worst Grandfather is very furious. But you, well. Who even are you?

I don’t know. Because the writers never bothered giving you a name. It’s all right though. You know why?

Because I love you.

Happy Birthday

Concept: you’re Harry’s gf, you’re with him on tour and it’s your birthday. He’s performing, you’re backstage. You hear him talk about today being a special day. He says he’s going to call you onstage and asks people to tell you what it says on the big screen when you go up there. People goes wild. You cant see the screen but you assume it says happy birthday. He calls you, you go up there all shy, harry counts 1,2,3. But people shout ‘will you marry harry?’ and you turn to see him on one knee.’ – anon :)

The roar from the crowd was deafening from where you stood backstage, and you could only imagine how powerful it sounded from where Harry stood amongst the rest of his band. This one was one of the bigger venues on the tour, housing just around 4,000 people.

Because of its size, you were able to stand right in the wings and watch him perform, bouncing around onstage and telling awful jokes, just like at the arena tours you were used to.

“Alright!” Harry shouted to the crowd after the end chord finished, “Can yeh do something for me tonight?”

Maia and Jace’s unexpected hookup was something he discussed with showrunner Darren Swimmer ‘well before it made its way onto the script. The writers really enjoyed Alicia and my chemistry on screen, so they wanted to explore it a little more. But we also needed to be careful; this show is based on books, and we have to show respect to that, while also keeping it fresh for fans of the show in its own right. That’s one of the reasons why it came about that it didn’t mean anything.’

How 2 Horse Friend

I’m here to help friend!!
So you open the little icon in the bottom left, and you open a lil game with a horse! Awesome!

The bar at the top is health. When your horse takes toxic dumps, its health starts to decline! All you gotta do is click on them to get rid of them and the health will start regenerating

Oh no! Your horse died! If you click “remember your dead,” you get taken to a scrolling list of all of your previous horses (hit “return to the living” to get back to this screen). Click “hatch a new one” to restart the game and get a new horse!

Some stuff:

  • at the top right there’s a little camera and arrow; the camera opens a photo post with a screen cap of the game, and the arrow minimizes the game
  • minimizing the game does not pause the game
  • going to a different tab does pause the game
  • writing a post, going to blogs, refreshing the page, etc. does not effect your game; it’ll either stay open and you keep playing, or it pauses it. If you can see the game or it’s icon, the game is running! If you don’t see it, it’s paused!
  • the hearts you get when you click on your horse do nothing but they’re fun to watch
  • don’t kill your horse

Note: Me: *has 30 requests I need to write, a play to finish, and exams to study for* Also Me: Eh, why not write something literally no one asked for. Hey guys, remember that stuffed turtle I bought way back? Yeah, so do I. Anyway, I kinda smushed a request into this one a little bit. Tried to. Anyway, fluff for my favorite hothead. I might have some Leo coming up later too, so keep your eyes peeled.

Raph. Was. So. Bored. But it was day, so he couldn’t leave the lair, and you were at school anyway so he didn’t really have anywhere to go. And so therefore, he was lifting weights, as usual. Needless to say, he wasn’t expecting to hear your voice so soon.

“Boo!” You sprang into his makeshift gym.

“(Y/N)? Don’t ya have school today?”

“Skipped.” You answered, dropping down onto the large pillow in the corner of the room. Your reading nook. Raph’s eyes widened.

“Woah, we got a badass over here.” He looked impressed.

“Kidding. Half-day. Exams.” You laughed. “I’m a goody-two-shoes. We both know that.”

“Heh, right.” He chuckled. “So what’cha doin’ here? Don’t ya got better things to do than hang out in the sewers?”

“Nah.” You shrugged. “Figured I’d pay my best friend a visit.”

“Ah.” He nodded. “Well, as you can see, not much is goin’ on down here.”

“Do you have patrol tonight?”

“Nope. Why?”

“Do you maybe want to come over to my place and watch a movie?”

“Yeah, sure. What’s on the docket tonight, shorty?”

“Hellboy.”

“What’s that about?”

“You’ll see.” You smiled innocently. “So are you in?”

“I don’t see why not.” But what he didn’t say was: I would watch paint dry if it was with you.

***

After dark, you waited in your room for Raph’s tapping on your window. Soon enough, he arrived and lumbered inside the window that was just barely big enough for the massive muscular turtle.

“(Y/N), ya here?”

“In the kitchen making popcorn!” You called. “Stay in there I’ll be out in a minute!”

“All right.” He looked around your room. Everything was set up, the movie’s menu playing on the screen. He sat down on your bed, causing it to creak beneath his weight. It was then that he noticed something sitting there. It was a medium-sized stuffed turtle. But that wasn’t all. It had a red bandana tied around its eyes. Raph’s cheeks suddenly matched his mask. He held it in his large hands, still not able to believe this was something that was sitting on your bed. Something you…slept with.

And in that instant, he imagined you, curled up in your sleep. Curled up in his huge arms. He pictured the sleepy breaths and quiet mumbles, and he wanted nothing more than to hold you against his plastron, to bury his face in your soft skin and kiss away all of your troubles.

He was in love with you.

Shit, why hadn’t he realized it sooner? You had been in front of him all along, and he had never…he had never felt this way. No, maybe he had. The days you wore your red t-shirt or the turtle charm that sometimes dangled around your neck. He liked to imagine you were his. He wished you were.

He wanted to hold your hand and hold you close, and God, he wanted to kiss your lips. Your soft human lips. Usually when he looked at his reflection, he could never imagine anyone loving him. He could never imagine anyone calling him theirs. But this turtle had changed everything, his entire outlook on love had shifted after spending two minutes in your room.

You opened the door, a large bowl of popcorn tucked under your arm and your hair pulled up into a messy bun. You weren’t wearing make-up, but you had never looked more gorgeous.

“What’s this?” he couldn’t stop the words from falling out of his mouth. Now your face was red.

“Oh, um, that’s my…um…” you sighed. “He just makes me feel safe, you know, when I’m asleep.”

“Oh.”

“Yeah.” You replied.

“So…” a ghost of a smile pulled at his scarred lips. “I make ya feel safe.”

“Yes.” You nodded and awkwardly walked over to the bed. “You do.”

“What are ya scared of?” he asked quietly as you sat down beside him. You couldn’t bring yourself to look at him.

“Losing you.” You mumbled.

“What?”

“Losing you.” Your whisper was slightly louder this time.

“I ain’t goin’ anywhere. I promise.” His giant green finger turned your chin to face him. His eyes were soft and earnest. “Listen, I uh…” his heart felt like it was going to leap out of his chest and run down the street. “I might be all rough on the outside, but uh, ya make me wanna be soft…for ya. And I just wanna protect ya. Because you’re so small and I’m so big, and if anything ever hurt ya…I don’t know what I’d do.”

There was a long silence. You stared at him for a long time, trying to find the words.

“I know that’s a lot to dump on ya. I’m sorry, I know you probably…I’m a turtle and you’re…I’m sorry I’ll just-”

“I love you.” You blurted, heart racing. “I don’t know for how long I have, but I do. A lot. I can’t explain it. You just make everything feel right. You make me feel safe.” You poked the plushie. “Even if it’s just this.”

“You don’t need it to keep ya safe. Not anymore. I’ll, uh…I’ll keep ya safe. I promise.” There was a long moment of silence. Raph slowly reached out, pulling you into his arms and onto his lap. You curled into his plastron and exhaled a huge sigh of relief. “So…what’s the movie about?”

“A big rough red guy who falls in love with a human girl.” You replied quietly. Raph chuckled.

“Let me guess, that was your back-up plan?”

“You could say that, yeah.”

“Well it woulda worked.” He kissed your forehead.

“Noted.” And with that, you pressed play.

Texts Between Strangers

Note: female/woman ‘reader’

Hey, it was really nice meeting you last night. Maybe we can grab lunch tomorrow? This is Cisco btw.

The text pops up on your phone screen as you’re scrolling through social media. You’ve been lounging in bed on this rainy Saturday morning planning on doing absolutely nothing for the rest of the day but binge watch The Walking Dead and order thai take out later. You just stare at the text for a minute, blinking.

You definitely didn’t give your number to anyone last night because all you did yesterday was pull a double shift at Jitters because they’ve been short staffed lately. A long day at work usually left you looking a bit wrecked so you’re damn sure there wasn’t anyone slipping their digits your way either.

This person has the wrong number.

Unrequited Love: Sequel

Yoosung

To say the least… he felt empty.

It had been weeks since the RFA party where he’d met you and cut off contact, but already, he felt that his life suddenly seemed colourless and empty again. Void of meaning. Void of love.

Heaving a sigh, he turned to a more comfortable position on his bed by resting on his back. He raised his phone to his eyes, staring blankly at his lock screen. It was empty, lacking the message notifications that he had gotten used to seeing on his phone for the past few months.

He groaned, covering his face with his hands, “Why am I even expecting anything from her? I was absolutely horrible to her…”

However, Yoosung only felt more and more restless as the hours slipped by. No matter what he tried to distract himself, whether it was gaming, eating, or cleaning the house, his thoughts kept wandering back to you.

Aaah, this is boring… I remember it used to be more fun when I called MC while doing this…

What is she doing? Who is she with right now? How does she look when facing them? Is she smiling? Is she… happy?

Why do I feel so empty? Even though I don’t like her… even though she’s not like Rika…

He couldn’t understand his own feelings, so he decided to ask the best person he knew.

And that’s how Yoosung found himself sitting across a glaring Zen in Jaehee’s café.

“Seriously? You’re gonna ask advice from me about MC? I don’t know if you fuckin’ remember, but you broke her heart. Don’t even think about getting her back,” Zen scoffed, his arms crossed as he gazed pointedly at the younger male.

Yoosung hung his head, a sigh escaping his lips. “I know, and I’m sorry,” he mumbled. “But I can’t stop thinking about her.”

“It’s not me you should be apologizing to,” Zen responded coldly, unimpressed.

Yoosung clenched his fists on the table. “Well what can I do?!”

“Move on from her. It’s the best thing for both of you. Clearly, you’re still not over Rika’s death, which means you’re in no state to be diving headfirst into any relationships. You need time to move on, and I’m definitely not letting you drag MC down while you’re feeling so conflicted.”

“…”

“Besides, she’s already moved on. You should, too.”

Yoosung’s head shot up, his eyes wide. His mouth dropped open in shock, but no sound came out.

Zen raised his eyebrows in slight surprise. “You didn’t know?” He cocked his head to the counter, gesturing for Yoosung to look there. “She’s with Jaehee, now. After you broke her heart that night, Jaehee brought her home and took care of her. And they’re deep in love. They see each other for who they really are. I’m not going to let you ruin their happiness.”

Even Yoosung understood how much better Jaehee would treat MC than he could.

“I understand. I’ll give up,” he whispered hoarsely, a sad smile on his face. He chuckled humourlessly, tears welling up in his eyes, “I have no right to be with her, anyway.”

Zen

Today, the actor was angry.

Lately, he’d been doing really well in his career—after being the star of his previous musical, he’d been brought into the spotlight and was invited to numerous shows and ceremonies limited to famous celebrities. He had been so successful lately, but then he had missed a few rehearsals from being sick after a night of heavy drinking, and his understudy took his place.

And now that understudy had taken his spotlight.

Fuck!” Zen swore in frustration, throwing sheets from the script off of his normally organized table. Tears sprung in his eyes, which he angrily wiped away with the back of his forearm.

He had worked his ass off to get the star position. He had spent hours rehearsing his lines, practising his movements in the mirror, and working out to get his body in even better shape so that he could convince the director to give him the leading role.

“That role belongs to me,” he wept, choking on his hot tears, clinging onto his dining table to hold his weight. He couldn’t stand. The disappointment was unbearable. He had worked so, so hard.

Zen squeezed his eyes shut, curling into a ball as he tried to block out his own thoughts. What should he do? What could he do to relieve himself of this pain? How had he even survived all those hellish evenings of torturous practices?

His eyes snapped open as he remembered. The name slipped past his lips before he realized, echoing in his ears. “MC…”

His gaze trailed to his phone, which was lying on the floor, its screen broken amidst his rage. He crawled over, unable to find the energy to stand up. His fingers trembling, he grabbed the phone, unlocking it with difficulty. He tried to find your contact, scrolling through his messages…

Huh? Where’s MC…?

Realization struck him. That’s right. He had never saved your contact, and he’d deleted your message history once he won the bet. That’s all you had been to him—a bet.

So why was he thinking about you, of all the people he’s ever met in his life, right now, when he was at his lowest?

Suddenly, he remembered what Seven had once told him.

“Ugh, why do they always give me the bad-boy-with-a-kind-heart roles?! I want to try something new, something more challenging!” Zen had been complaining one day.

Seven laughed merrily, “You know, Zen, I read somewhere that you can never really act a character unless there’s a part of you that can actually connect with them.”

“Hmm? What do you mean?”

“There’s always some truth in a lie. Or, in this case, an act,” the redhead elaborated.

Thinking back to Seven’s words, Zen finally figured it out. The reason it had been so easy, so natural for him to pretend like he was interested in you… The reason he would willingly stay up at night to talk to you, even though he could’ve easily brushed you off if you were really nothing special to him… The reason he was even thinking about you right now…

“I’m in love,” he murmured softly, the words passing through his lips before his mind could even process it. He shook his head in disbelief, letting out a hysterical laugh before he held his face in his hands. He repeated to himself, “I’m in love with MC… Shit.”

He allowed himself to fall backwards onto the floor, wincing as he felt a glass shard stabbing into his back. Must’ve been one of the beer bottles that he’d thrown in his earlier rage. Zen hung an arm over his eyes, letting the material of his clothing soak up the fresh set of tears that he just couldn’t hold in.

“I’m an idiot,” he whispered to himself, pain seeping through his voice.

Fin. | ZEN ALTERNATIVE ENDING:

A series of frantic knocks came at his door. Zen remained still on his floor, ignoring the noise. This happened often—fans would come looking for him once they found out his address. But right now, he didn’t have the energy to deal with his fans. And he definitely didn’t want to show his puffed up face and messed up apartment.

But his ears caught the sound of a familiar voice, and he shot up immediately, scrambling on his knees to stand. Zen wondered, MC? There’s no way she’s here. But… that’s her voice. Her sweet, sweet voice, calling my name… Maybe I’m dreaming…

But there was no mistaking it as he neared the door. He looked through the peephole, eyes squinted as he tried to make out who was at his door in the dark of night. He had to blink away a few tears to clear his vision, but then he immediately recognized your face, and unlocked the door, dragging you in with a big hug.

“Why are you here, you idiot?” he sobbed, clinging onto your small figure desperately. “I was so cruel… You know how horrible I was… I broke your heart on purpose. I don’t deserve to be called a man. I’m the worst. I’m the worst. I’m so sorry, I’m sorry…”

He repeated his apologies over and over again, just holding onto you tightly. You reached behind him to rub his back in an attempt to soothe him. God, he’s a mess, you thought to yourself.

When he finally calmed down, he asked quietly, “…Why are you here?”

“I heard the news that you’re being replaced… I figured it would be hard for you to handle it. I know how hard you worked for the role, after all… So, I phoned Seven and he told me your address,” you replied softly, stroking his hair.

“But… why?” He shook his head, unsatisfied by your answer. “I was so awful to you. I honestly don’t deserve you… Why would you come even after I did that to you?”

You offered a sad smile. “Because I love you. And even if you don’t feel the same… even if you think I’m nothing… I would still do anything for you. Because I’m an idiot, and I love you.”

Pain tugged at his heart as he listened to your confession. “But wait, MC, I love you t-“

You covered your ears, taking a step back from him. Heartbrokenly, you admitted to him, “No. You don’t, Zen. You only feel that way because you’re feeling down right now, and you’re reaching to the closest, easiest person for comfort. You’re only fooling yourself into loving me… Please don’t tell me that you love me if you don’t really mean it. Please… don’t break my heart a second time.”

He fell silent, confused. Was it true? Was he really only ‘in love’ because he was feeling depressed? He didn’t know how to feel. His heart was in turmoil right now.

You continued, “Tonight… I’ll make you dinner so you’ll eat properly, clean the house, and make sure you fall asleep. I’ll be gone in the morning. And I’ll be leaving this unrequited love of mine behind. So please, don’t try to find me again. I love you, but I know I have to let go.”

And you stayed true to your word. After taking care of him for the night, you left him with three words:

“Please, be happy.”

Jumin

He couldn’t avoid you forever.

He had been fully aware of that even as he had rejected you a few weeks back. You were part of the same charity organization, and he knew he had to face you at some point. Despite that, he did his best to ignore you, all the same.

You had been hoping to apologize for your previously bold behaviour, but he would make Jaehee turn you away at his office, and he would have his bodyguards surround him when you tried to talk to him after work. Jumin Han was being difficult. And you understood why, but it honestly annoyed you to no end that he took to such measures, simply to avoid you.

So you waited to meet him at the next RFA party planning meeting. As you’d hoped, he came to the meeting with no bodyguards.

“Business is business,” he coldly reminded you before you could even get up from your seat to talk to him. “Leave personal business out of this.”

He was stubborn. And although you were a persistent person yourself, you knew better than to bring personal affairs into work.

After the meeting, you met with Jaehee for lunch, who apologized profusely for having to deny you from meeting Jumin countless times. Of course, you forgave her, knowing she had only been following orders from her boss.

“What should I do?” you asked, sighing. “I’ve tried everything, but he won’t even let me talk to him. All I want to do is apologize, at the very least. I don’t need him to feel the same. I know that’s a lot to ask for, in the first place…”

Jaehee hummed thoughtfully as she listened to your predicament. “Well, Mr. Han tends to be stubborn about things like this. I’m sure you know, but he’s never been on good terms with anyone of the female gender. Everyone had always been after his family name and riches… He grew up surrounded by women who sought to appeal to him, either to be his lover or to gain his father’s favour. It’s only reasonable that he has become unable to trust the women around him.”

You nodded, listening carefully.

She continued, “It’s not the first time he’s been in this kind of situation with you. Mr. Han is a much desired bachelor, and he’s had to meet many women for business, and it happens often that they develop feelings for him. Now, he asks me to go with him during those kinds of meetings, which has decreased the amount of women who act boldly… But, as you’re an RFA member, he deemed it unnecessary…”

“I see…” you murmured softly. “I guess I should try to move on…”

Jaehee’s eyes lit up as she said, “Ooh, actually, one of our party guests is a matchmaker. Her name is Uranai. I could ask her to find a match for you! It never hurts to try.”

You smiled wryly. “Well, I’ve got to start somewhere.”

It was 2 months later, as Jumin sat in his office, that he wondered how you were doing. You had stopped trying to approach him sooner than he expected… He couldn’t help but be curious about you.

Well… it wouldn’t be weird for me to look at her social media or anything… We’re colleagues, after all… That’s what he said to convince himself as he searched up your name and scrolled through your photos.

His breath caught in his throat as he saw pictures of you with another man, arms linked together.

She looks… really happy, Jumin thought to himself, noting how your eyes sparkled with delight.

He ignored the small pang of jealousy in his heart as he leaned back in his chair. He ignored the question that wandered into his mind by itself: Would she have smiled like that with me?

He spoke aloud to himself, “Well… I guess I’m glad she doesn’t come to bother me anymore. It’s… good that she found someone.”

Just colleagues. Nothing more. Not even friends.

Now, it was his eyes who followed your figure as you walked out of the RFA meetings. It was him who would try to make conversation with you when you came to the office to visit Jaehee. It was him who found himself wondering how it would’ve been like to be with you, if he had listened to you, if he had given you a chance. If he hadn’t ignored you when you tried to apologize.

But those were only ifs. It was already too late.

And it was from this, that Jumin would teach his son, born from an arranged marriage many, many years later: “Don’t ever be afraid to take risks. You’ll never know the outcome if you don’t take an opportunity. Please don’t be a close-minded idiot like your father, okay?”

And, by some weird twist of fate, his son and your daughter would meet and fall in love one day, bringing the two families together, and finally giving Jumin the chance to own up to his mistakes.

Seven

You hadn’t responded to any of his calls in days. Seven was starting to get worried about you.

He picked up his phone, texting you.

707: Did something happen?
Read.
707: I know you’re reading my messages. Say something, anything.
Read.
707: You could’ve at least been funny and literally just said ‘something’…
Read.
707: Stop ignoring me.
MC: You have no right to tell me what to do.
707: I don’t understand what you want, MC.
Read.

He sighed in frustration. Why couldn’t you just tell him the truth? You always told him what was on your mind before. …Before that day at the zoo.

His eyes widened at the realization. Now he remembered. You’d been acting really weird that day, almost as if you had fallen in love with him or something… which was exactly what he told you not to do in the ride home afterwards. He quickly messaged you again.

707: MC, I’m coming over.
MC: Wait, what?!

Without further explanation, Seven headed over to your house, in the same car he had unknowingly broken your heart in. He didn’t even knock on your door, simply picked the lock with ease and entered the dark apartment. He felt his heart squeeze in pain as he took in the messy place, realizing that you haven’t been taking care of yourself.

“MC?” he called out, scanning the room for any sign of your presence.

He heard a creak in the bedroom, and he walked slowly in that direction. He knocked politely at your door. “MC, it’s me… Open the do-“

You flung open the door, a wide grin on your face. “I was just kidding~ I’m perfectly fine. You fell for my prank, silly!” You laughed. “Didn’t know you’d worry this much if I didn’t talk to you for a couple days.”

He didn’t believe you for a second. He grabbed you by the arm, and pulled you into his arms. You froze, unsure what to make of this.

“I’m sorry I didn’t notice sooner,” he murmured.

“S-Seven? I already told you it was only a joke…”

His grip on you tightened. “I know it’s not. Have you seen yourself in the mirror? Your eyes are swollen, red and puffed up… Your nose is pink from blowing your nose… I know you’ve been crying, MC. Not to mention, your place is a mess. And I know you—you wouldn’t let it get this messy if you honestly felt okay. Please don’t lie to me. We’re friends, aren’t we?”

The word itself stung. Friends.

“If you know how I feel… Then you know that I don’t think of you as just a friend,” you whispered, eyes downcast. You’d given up on acting like you were fine. “You already said that it’s impossible for you to fall in love, didn’t you?”

He stayed silent, not answering your question.

You took his silence as an urge to continue. “So please… don’t… d-don’t hug me like this. I’ll think the wrong way. I’ll get hopeful. Even though you already… rejected me… before I could even confess…” You clung at his shirt, burying your face into his chest to hide your tears. It felt so perfect, being in his arms. But you couldn’t have him.

“I’m sorry,” he simply said again.

He watched how broken you were over his rejection, and he felt his own chest tightening in pain again. No matter how much he hated seeing you cry, he just couldn’t bring himself to lie that he loved you. Seven could only see you as a friend.

He sighed. “There’s… a lot that you don’t know about me. The person you’re in love with—no, the person you think you’re in love with… That’s not really me. I’m not the cheery, fun guy that I pretend to be. I’m so much worse than you think I am. I’ll only hurt you. I don’t want to hurt you.”

Didn’t he know that he was hurting you already?

“You’re hurting me now. Coming to my house like this, holding me like this, whispering into my ears like this… It only makes me want you more, and it hurts knowing that you’ll never return my feelings,” you spoke out your thoughts.

“It’s not just you, MC. No matter who it is, I’d have to reject them. Even if I want to love you, even if I genuinely care about you—which I do, I can’t have a relationship with you, MC. You know I’m a hacker, right? Spies will go after you if they know you’re with me. No matter what, I won’t let that happen. I won’t let them hurt you.”

“Just because it’s dangerous, it doesn’t mean you can’t have feelings for me…”

“You’re not wrong. Still, even if it wasn’t a life-threatening situation, I wouldn’t let myself be with you. I… I have problems, MC. And I refuse to drag you into my problems. Please move on from me.”

You struggled out of his embrace, forcefully prying your bodies apart. Fresh, hot tears rolled down your cheek. “You can’t just expect me to move on like that! It’s not that easy!” you exclaimed, infuriated. It was easy for him to ask you to move on. He wasn’t the one in pain. He wasn’t the one facing rejection. He wouldn’t understand how you feel.

“I know. That’s why I came here today,” he said quietly, his gaze softened with a hint of regret.

You caught your breath, blinking in surprise. “I don’t understand,” you murmured slowly.

He looked you in the eyes with determination. His next words almost broke your heart all over again. “This is goodbye, MC. I came to say goodbye. It’s the only way you’ll move on.”

And then he just left.

He left you, standing there in awed despair by yourself. He left you, with the lingering warmth on your arms from your embrace. He left you, without another word. And he never came back.

Just like you never moved on.

    「   THEME #014: ORIHIME by angelicxi   」
    ↳ [  preview  /  codes  ]
❥ the link to the code is in the sidebar desc.

We all have met fictional characters that stayed with us long after the initial encounter, that continue to inspire us or motivate us, sometimes in the most surprising of ways. The design for ORIHIME proves as much — drawing inspiration from the Bleach character of the same name (specifically, from her hairpins), I designed a quaint, easy-on-the-eyes theme that lets you stop & breathe. Aimed at personal and aesthetic blog types, it packs plenty customization options to truly make it your own.

FEATURES
[ + ]  everything auto-centers;
[ + ]  500px posts;
[ + ]  left & right sidebars;
[ + ]  the highlight of the theme — the flower detail on the left side, which is fully customizable: you can edit the border and each petal’s colors separately (I suggest using a gradient of shades, as shown in the preview, but you can have a pride flag on there);
[ + ]  a main title slot, independent of your blog title, editable via the customization panel;
[ + ]  a secondary title slot, which likewise can be changed via the customization panel;
[ + ]  a description slot — remember to properly wrap it in a paragraph tag;
[ + ]  NB: keep in mind that as of this theme, you have an inbuilt description slot in your customization panel that is separate from tumblr’s. I chose to add it in since tumblr is so prone to glitching;
[ + ]  home & ask + 3 extra links (though you can manually add more);
[ + ]  the sidebar text shadow can be turned on/off;
[ + ]  plain color background option;
[ + ]  texture/pattern background option;
[ + ]  gradient background option;
[ + ]  full wallpaper background option (don’t fret about size, I’ve set it to cover).
tip: tumblr is, as previously stated, very glitchy. in order for all the on/off options to work right, turn everything off first, and then turn on those that you want active.
