it's a great mixture of genres

2006. Trollskau, skrømt og kølabrenning

is the debut album by Myrkgrav.

Myrkgrav, a one-man band formed in 2003, manage to put out a record which does exactly that, its genre falling somewhere roughly in the middle of black metal and folk metal (blackened folk metal). Lars Jensen, the only constant member, is clearly a very talented musician, performing the vocals, guitars, bass, drums, keyboards, flute and hardanger fiddle on Trollskau, Skrømt og Kølabrenning, and he does a great job on all of them.

The lyrics are about local history, legends and folklore from Ringerike, Lommedalen, and Hole, from around the 17th century to the end of the 19th century. The songs are sung in a local dialect of Norwegian.

The genre Myrkgrav has chosen is a mixture between Norwegian folk music, and extreme metal genres (most notably black metal). So you`re dealing with a Folk Metal-record. Viking Metal could also be used.

Myrkgrav is highly recommended to all those who enjoy the more passionate and serious side of Folk/Viking Metal.
