Note: I was gonna wait to post this, but I got really excited at everyone’s positive reactions to the first GingerSnap fic I posted (thank you!!!). So here’s one featuring mostly Elliott and introducing Will (brief character bio here)! This one is a lot longer, so I hope that’s cool.
Edit: I forgot that I got the idea based on a prompt from this list. (It’s the first one there, you can’t miss it.)
There were few times Elliott Chapman had been so relieved to finish a shift as he was now. Whatever energy he’d had at the start of the day had long since vanished, and it was all he could do not to lean into the wall as he took his apron off and slipped his hands into the sleeves of his sweatshirt. His head pounded and had been spinning for the past few hours. That, coupled with the shakiness of his hands and relentless interruptions from his respiratory system, had made it quite difficult to carry trays from table to table and be quick about it.
Oh no! It's 3:59, and I still have to grab a blanket, some chocolate, my teddy bear, make myself dinner, grab a box of tissues, get a glass of water, set up my doomsday device, get foiled by Superman, get untied, retreat and plot my revenge, cuddle up with my friend, set up twitter, and then get to the stream.
Then again, what am I saying, this is GTLive. I have plenty of time.
I know you may have gotten this before or get this a lot anyway but how hard is it to create a myth/new religion/god(s)? What is the basis for a religion with mythical beasts and the like? I'm trying to write a story centered around a fictional small religion and am kind of confused when referencing other small religions. Thanks for running this blog btw! It's been an extremely helpful reference~! <3
Our answer for this one is courtesy of Dave, a writer and a friend of one of our chorus members:
I’m going to give you an answer that sounds like a complete and utter cop-out, and it sort of is but bear with me. It Depends. And it does. It depends on quite a few things. But it mainly depends on how…let’s say “realistic” you want this religion or mythology to be.
What you can do is just toss out ideas and string them together: the names of gods, what they’re the gods of, whether or not a particular god is a complete dick or not. Boom. Easy. Simple. Boring. Bland. You want to make a fictitious religion or mythology that isn’t that? You’re going to need to ask yourself a few questions.
The first question is “what is the purpose of this mythology?” Back when I was in college (just over a year ago, now; how time flies), I took an elective my final semester: the Anthropology of Religion. It was not quite what I was expecting (I was hoping for more discussion on world religions, an analysis of their tenets and how they relate to the modern world, that sort of thing), but I still found it fascinating. And the one thing that I really took away from it was what the purpose of religion is, anthropologically-speaking: religions exist to make sense of a world that probably doesn’t have any sense to it. That is the purpose of religion, in broad strokes: making a crazy world a little more sane.
But I’m rambling.
I’m not talking about why this mythology exists in-context; when you ask yourself “what is the purpose of this mythology,” you need to think about the meta-context, the context you’ll be using it in. Is it for your tumblr roleplay blog? Are you writing a novel? Coming up with a setting for your D&D campaign you DM on Saturday nights? The reason you’re creating this mythology is going to, in part, determine how much detail (and thusly how much work) you need to put into it. Let’s look at each of the possibilities I mentioned above.
Let’s say you’re creating a tumblr roleplay blog for a character who is, oh… a generic fantasy dwarf. Short, taciturn, unhealthy lust for gold and gems, The Beard, whole nine yards; you want to detail your dwarf’s religious beliefs. In this case, broad strokes might be best; there’s little need to sit down and write out the entire mythology beyond the most general details, at least at first. In this case, you’d have the luxury of time, and you can expand on your basic foundation as you roleplay, adding new elements as time goes on.
If you’re DMing a D&D campaign, you might need to do a little more work. Here, detailing each god in a pantheon and their relationships to each other (and deities outside of that pantheon) are probably more important than in the prior example. You might want to detail the more temporal side of things: how religious rites and ceremonies are conducted, church hierarchies, etc. You still don’t need to write an entire holy text yourself (unless that’s your thing; more power to you if it is), but you should keep in mind that while the broad strokes are fine at first, your players WILL want to know more details, especially if they happen to have a character who is a cleric or a paladin or otherwise has important and deeply-held religious beliefs. I speak from experience here. Luckily, you can get your players to do some of the work for you. Have them make up details, scripture, customs, etc. They’ll get more invested in their character, in your campaign, and in your world.
But suppose you’re an aspiring novelist trying to crank out a best-selling fantasy novel about dwarves and their gods. Well, this is where you really have your work cut out for you. Broad strokes may work best at first, but like the players of a D&D campaign, your readers will want to know more, and unlike in a D&D campaign you can’t get them to fill in the blanks for you. You’re going to need to do all the explaining, all of the details, all of the work here.
The next question you should consider is that of your setting. What sort of world are you creating this mythology for? If it’s a fantasy setting, chances are you’re going to want a detailed mythology as religion is a prominent element of many fantasy settings (even the lower-fantasy ones; look at how important religion is the George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire”).
Is it Earth, perhaps a modern-fantasy setting akin to “The Dresden Files” or “American Gods”? You may want to be careful with creating a new mythology with a setting like that, as you’ll have to account for why all these other religious beliefs are (presumably) false and yours is (presumably) correct (unless they’re ALL true, but that’s a different matter entirely). Not to mention you have to consider why your mythology is (probably) not the dominant one on Earth.
Is it a science-fiction setting? That seems like a curious choice, but consider Frank Herbert’s “Dune”. It is, at its heart, a sci-fi epic, and religion plays a major part in it. Indeed, I would say that “Dune” is probably the best example as to how to write a believable fictional religion.
The setting you’re writing a mythology for and the purpose behind your creation of this mythology are both important factors that decide the level of detail you’re going to want to use. And you get these details by adding myths to that mythology. Mythologies are made up of myths. Crazy, right? And all myths really are, are stories. Lemminkäinen drowning in the river of Tuonela. God parting the Red Sea so the children of Israel could cross it. Zeus turning himself into a swan and seducing Leda (as a swan; I swear I’m not making this up). That one time that Mjölnir was stolen by the giant Þrymr, so Thor had to disguise himself as Freyja to recover it and almost married Þrymr (I’m not making this up either). Brahma beginning in nothingness and, by thought alone, creating waters, into which he deposited his semen, which created a golden egg which Brahma was born from (This one takes the freakin’ cake).
Myths are stories that explain the world from a culture’s viewpoint, stories that explain a culture’s customs and beliefs. Consider the Þrymskviða, that aforementioned story about Thor crossdressing and reclaiming his stolen hammer. It reveals that Norse culture was violent (the story ends with Thor getting his hands on Mjölnir and killing Þrymr and everyone else at the wedding), their sense of humor (nobody realizes that “Freyja” is obviously a man), their value of community and cooperation (the entire plan is Loki’s idea in the first place and his continued aid is the only thing that allows it to succeed) and the Norse idea of justice (Þrymr stole Mjölnir, so he has to die). It is not enough to simply know that two gods in a pantheon hate each other; there has to be a reason why, a reason that reveals something about the people who believe this mythology to be true.
This is a fairly nuanced and intricate topic, but that’s the long and short of it. Is it hard to create a mythology? Not particularly, really. But creating one that is believable, one that makes sense no matter how outlandish or bizarre it might be? That takes thought and effort. Like so many other things in life, what you get out of such a project is what you put into it.
I need to tell you I am in awe of "Machine Heart". I mean like how did all these amazing, wonderful details come to you? My heart was beating a million miles a minute throughout the entire thing (I admit I even had to put it down to calm myself). It's like a flawless creation and it's only Chapter 3!!! You mentioned your inspiration in your author's note but seriously...how?! Damn, my mind is blown. Anyway, thank you and I hope you don't mind my fangirling! :)
Well firstly OMG thank you. Thank you thank you thank you that really really means a lot to me.
This is gonna be a tad long (writers g’on write, gaah!) so bear with me…
Secondly, I too am a huge fangirl. One thing I’ve always done in my writing (specifically fanfiction but I apply to copywriting too, it’s just part of the my process) is to pull from not only what thrills me about that particular fandom – in this case our beloved RICHONNE!! – but everything that thrills me.
I love movies. Sci-fi and thrillers are my favorite types of movies.
I’m such a huge music nerd it’s not even funny. I cannot do much of anything without music. Especially writing. Needs must.
And of course I am a huuuuuge romantic so there’s that. Helps with dat good ole smut lol.
As for Machine Heart (and to an extent, Vantage Point), I’ve been going down this rabbit hole of sci-fi movies and 80s thrillers. A few examples…
This is one of my all-time favorite movies. The sequel kicked ass, too but the love story between Sarah Conner and Kyle Reese REALLY got me. He went through time for her.
Well, Alien just an unbeatable classic. Ripley and Michonne have a lot in common. And the crew in the Alien movies were always fascinating to me, so I tried to make The Family and the B-DP like I saw in this movie.
The Fifth Element
Despite this being heavy on the ‘born sexy yesterday’ trope, the lush, crazy, colorful world in this film is my favorite. And Ruby Rod, of course.
Guardians of the Galaxy
Here, it was the music, the sweetness (Yondu and Starlord, Groot!!!) and the ace humor. The filmmakers are total fanboys and you can soo tell.
Ghost in the Shell (original anime)
This film so intelligently examines the human condition. Plus, it is simply breathtaking.
And last but not least, Blade Runner
This is what Machine Heart (along with Alien) is mostly based on, especially the world and the replicants (when those come up). Deckard (Harrison Ford) and Rick will face the same dilemma: having a heart for a machine…a perfect, perfect replicant of a human. So perfect she (Rachel in the film) actually thinks she’s human. It’s dark, somber, and so awesome.
All of these visual, atmospheric, dramatic, and science fiction references basically float around in my head, poking and prodding at me…and I said to myself… how friggin cool would it be to have The Family in a sci-fi action thriller?
An epic love story – one that transcends time, space, even the physical form.
In my mind (head canon), Richonne is so that.
LOL. The rest is my strange obsession with writing visually – our minds are visual, we need to build images while we’re reading. Our minds usually work in the background to do this for us, but I have a hard time focusing unless I am completely immersed. I’m a slooooow reader because my mind says ‘hold up bitch, this is all blank white space with some murky shadow figures in it, we need to compensate…’
Likewise, I have a hard time getting into the zone if I can only write half a world, where the reader must do the work of creating these images for themselves.
Uhhhhh all that to say I’m weird! And I love writing! So much, it’s all I think about! So I AM INCREDIBLY TOUCHED AND HAPPY THAT YOU’RE ENJOYING THE STORY!!!! AND CHAPTER 4 IS COMING REAL, REAL SOON.
Thanks again! I hope this long ass response didn’t give you a headache…
After getting news about a family reunion coming up, the reader decides to set up a plan to make her look like she isn’t as single as she actually is. But when all her candidates can’t go, she’s left with the only person who she least expects to go along with the plan.
Word count: 900+
A/N: I am so very sorry that I haven’t posted in a few days, school has me by the ass and I’m stressing over finals. I think Faking It only has one part left and then the series is over, BUT I DO HAVE TWO MORE SERIES COMING SOON one is a Steve one and another is a Bucky one. I also am going to write a few avengers x reader ones, so stay tuned. I haven’t written smut in like months so bear with me.
“Not the vase!” You shouted as Bucky scrambled to catch the marble vessel. He gave you an Areyouserious? look. “That probably costs more than this dress.”
Bucky carefully placed the vase back on its stand before continuing your heated makeout session. He flung the car keys towards the floor, freeing his hands of the unnecessary object. Your fingers raked through his hair. Your grip tightened in his dark locks when his lips found the hollow of your collarbone. Something hard pressed against your thigh, with realization, you figured out that it was Bucky’s bulge.
It was a messy journey to the bedroom. By the time you reached the bed, Bucky’s hair was disheveled, his shirt was unbuttoned, exposing his toned abdomen, his pants were unbuckled and he was missing a shoe. He reached up to the zipper of your dress. Earlier, he had threatened to rip the dress off you, now you feared he would really do it.
“Bucky, if you rip the dress, I swear-”
“I’m not going to rip it, doll,” He whispered as he slowly unzipped your dress. A sudden chill went up your spine when his cool metal fingers grazed your bare back. Vigilantly, he got the dress off your body. His lips found yours once again, there was a certain need behind the kiss. A passion behind it that made you want more.
You hastily removed his shirt and tossed it to the side. As were his pants until he was left in only his boxers His hand began sliding down your abdomen before resting over your core. Bucky smiled against your skin when your breathing became more ragged. Ever so slowly, he began rubbing your clit through the cloth of your panties.
“You’re so wet, doll,” He said dangerously low.
You bit your lip as a moan escaped your throat. His fingers pressed harder and you could feel the heat inside you intensify. Bucky’s fingers came to a halt, in one swift move, he curled his index and middle finger around the waistline of your panties and pulled them off.
You threw your head back in agitation as Bucky teased you. His hands caressing the inside of your thighs but making no effort to move towards your sex.
“Bucky, please,” You practically begged.
The smug smirk plastered on his face told you that he seemed to be enjoying the fact that you were squirming and growing agitated as the seconds passed. You pulled off his boxers and his erection spring free. He lowered himself over you. Foreheads touching and lips barely grazing. Bucky moved slightly until his mouth was right next to your ear.
“Beg for it.” His voice was deeper than usual and it sent you to the edge.
You were now irritated at all his teasing. Through gritted teeth, you muttered, “I fucking hate you.”
He smiled and kissed you before entering your soaking wet paradise. Your breath got stuck in your throat and Bucky gave you a look of concern. You nodded for him to keep going. He grabbed your hips and began a steady pace. The familiar knot in your stomach began to form.
“Faster Bucky,” You between breaths. He did as you were told. The sound of skin on skin and your moans bounced against the vast room. You wrapped your legs around his waist and tightened your grip on his forearms. A stream of curses and each other’s names fall from both of your lips as he continues to pound into you.
You now had him up against the headboard as you buried yourself on his length. The heat between your bodies intertwining as you straddled him. He grabbed your waist as you rode him. His hands moved up your body until they cupped your breasts. He pinched your nipples, you bit down on your lip so hard, you were scared you’d draw blood. You felt your walls tighten around Bucky’s length as your legs shook from building up the climax. He noticed your decelerated pace and lifted you up slightly before thrusting into you.
“Bucky,” You threw your head back.
“Fuck, doll,” He whimpered out.
Your fingers gripped the skin on his back as he did things that you never imagined. You’ve had sex, but not quite like this. He seemed to know every single right move and every single spot on your body and holy shit you loved it. Bucky winced when your nails dug into his back, you apologized, but he simply pressed a wet kiss against your neck. You felt yourself reaching your high.
Through uneasy moans, you were able to say, “Bucky I’m gonna come.” He bit down on your skin roughly and slapped your ass. A devilish smirk was plastered across his face as you ran your fingers through his locks.
You came in waves beneath him. You felt yourself unravel as his name rolled off your tongue. The knot in your stomach disentangled itself as you were thrown in an ocean of pure bliss. Your legs weak from all the effort and your heart beating violently. He collapsed on top of you. His hair was tousled and all over the place. The red markings on his back were clear, some had a few blood droplets. You hoped that when the hot water hit the scratches, that they would stink and he would be reminded of you.
He rolled off your body. “Goddamn, Y/N.” He paused. “You okay?”
“Better than okay, Bucky,” You managed to say. You raised your arm and he high-fived it.
After a couple of minutes, he spoke up, “Round 2?”
You rolled over and kissed him, “Thought you’d never ask.”
This is just a veeery small selection of the people I love seeing on my feed, and who I have either written with in the past, am writing with now, or would love to write with in the future. You’re all wonderful, and it’s genuinely a joy reading your threads on the dash whether we interact or not.
If you’ve been missed off this list please do not take it as me not liking your account or you or whatever, it’s more than likely just because its 2am right now and my brain is potato. But thank you to every last one of you for following, liking my ramblings, and writing with me.
( eiza gonzález / 28 / she/her ) is that ( lola álvarez ) ordering a ( triple espresso ) at mocha? i heard they’re a ( bar owner ) who’s known as the ( reticent ) around here. however, they say ( lola ) is very ( zealous ), but ( boorish ). well, better get their drink before it gets cold!
Seungcheol would probably just grin wildly and begin to tease you endlessly.
“Why are you hugging me suddenly? Did you /finally/ realise how much of an amazing boyfriend I am?” His comments and annoying teasing would ofc result in you huffing and pouting and eventually, unwrapping your arms from him. But then HE would get all pouty, “heyyyy, I didn’t say I didn’t like it!” Then he’d end up grabbing your hand and pulling you in for a massive bear hug ;3;
He’d be rather surprised from your sudden action, but when he realises its you, he’ll smile warmly and bury his face on top of your head. He wouldn’t move, just stand there enjoying the moment because he always likes it when you hug him. “Jagi, you’re really cute, you know that, right?”
Jisoo would automatically get all red and flustered, even if it wasn’t you hugging him. But since it WAS you, his flustered emotions sky rocketed. He’d end up stuttering while asking you why you were doing this. It wasn’t because he didn’t like it, he loved it, in fact. And when you explained that you just missed him he sorta smiled softly and snaked his arms around your waist, hugging you back bc missed u too!
Like Seungcheol, Jun would be absolutely greasy and annoyingly adorable. He’d begin to tease you too except he won’t let it go too far bc he’ll just get too impatient and want to hug you as tight as he can.
Hoshi being Hoshi, would be the jokester that he is and pretend to be knocked over by the massive force of you. When you’d start freaking out and apologising non stop he’d just laugh and pull you down to the floor with him and he’d just cuddle you from there ;;_;;
Since Wonwoo is more of the quiet type he wouldn’t say much, nor make much noise, which of course, you’re used to. Quite like Jeonghan he’d just smile down at you and pull you in closer so that you two could jUST STAY LIKE THT FOREVER PLS TY
He’d look like he wasn’t affected by your action much and would just hug you back, but inside everything is mush and he’s dying bc he alwayS FEELS LIKE THIS WHEN U TOUCH HIM.
Honestly, when you hug him he’s gonna smile so bright that everyone’s gonna need freaking sunglasses bc he adores it when you hug him, he’s gonna squeal like a child and coo at u and hug u so tight bc ur so cute
Mingyu would probably tease you a bit and crouch down to your size just to get on your nerves, “hugging you like this might be a bit uncomfortable but it’s what we have to do” and you’d get all annoyed at him and let go of the hug but when you let go he’ll just grab you firmly into a hug without a word bc hE WAS SOWWY
This cutie patootie’s gonna hug you back the second he sees you wrap your arms around him. Despite the fact that you hugged him unexpectedly, he won’t ask for a reason. Minghao would just hug you real tight and bury his face in the crook of your neck and smash your face against his chest.
My little potato would still be the sass queen that he is,
“Oh they’re hugging me, what’d you do jagi? What do you want? You only ever hug me when you want something.”
But you just mumble something rlly cute like, “all I want is uuuu”
Then he like freezes bc he didn’t expect such an answer so he stays quiet and just pulls u hella close bc he luvs u lots
“THEY’RE HUGGING ME ABORT ABORT ABORT ABORT” pretty much his reaction everytime
Like he’ll pretend he’s all chill bc he’s from the hIPHOP UNIT REPRESENT and he must play it cool but inside he’s freaking out bc omgomgomg he’s still a little boy and gets cute little boy butterflies in the stomach !!!!
This bundle of energy would be just as excited to hug you, despite his age, chan wouldn’t be too flustered bc of his bold characteristic and all he’d do is hug u tightly like a teddy bear bc our little maknae aw
@makocartwheels I have no idea why it won’t let me tag you :(
HIGH FIVE for Opportunist! Exactly on point.
If I am entirely honest this is probably just the game doing its own thing, trying to pretend that Reyes is not who he is until Chapter 3. It makes no sense for them to attack you in general. Reyes is using Ryder, he needs Ryder, and having the entire Collective hell bent on trying to kill them on sight, even for pretense sake, seems like the dumbest idea ever. At least miss me occasionally or something, don’t just nail every head shot.
I can just imagine that conversation.
Collective Minion: Charlatan, we come bearing good news! We have killed Pathfinder Ryder, they will no longer be an obstacle!
[YELLS I have a lot of replies to do but bear with my slow. I’ve had some serious insomnia this week so my activity is all over the place since sometimes I am like magically overflowing with energy and could lift an elephant, and sometimes I am like, “-just blankly stares at drafts — skips over longer drafts and works on shorter ones, but does like 2 or 3 and calls it a day-”.]
I saw him today
The one who was my first “serious teenage crush”
Saw how handsome he has become since
I last had any contact with him.
But I didn’t feel anything like I thought I would.
No stab in my chest or no rushing emotions.
Nothing. Nothing at all.
And it scared me.
Because that means that when
I see you years from now,
I might not feel anything and
I can’t bear that thought.
Even if I am married and my grandkids are around,
when I see you again I want to feel something,
anything, even if its pain, a nagging thought telling me
you are the one that got away.
I will want to feel
Because I can’t bear the thought of looking at you
and not feel anything,
it scares me
