it will be the most reblogged post on tumblr

anonymous asked:

I've been seeing a lot of gaming channel hate on my dash which makes me so sad! I love the gaming channel! The bashers I've noticed use the argument that DNP aren't "getting views" and they upload "boring/shitty" games. Do you have an opinion?

Meh, all that literally amounts to is “Dan and Phil aren’t playing the games I specifically want them to play.” On an individual basis I think most people express things in a tongue in cheek way - people who say “Dil should die” “phandom is dying” “the gaming channel is dead” etc are expressing their individual opinion. But the problem with tumblr and popular blogs is that one person’s opinion expressed how that person chooses to express it (with exaggerated emphasis, with sarcasm, etc) gets reblogged and amplified until someone sees the same post on their dash ten times and assumes that must be how everyone feels. Posts that literally just say “Gaming channel is great!” or “Love how they upload regularly now!” or “I understand why they choose not to play serious games!” aren’t funny or attention grabbing, so even though the majority of people feel that way the whole thing gets skewed so that it looks like no one does.

At the end of the day it’s a very successful gaming channel, mostly due to the fact that they are entertainment first, gaming second. Their views are down because youtube’s issues, not because their content has changed or is any more or less relevant than it used to be, and don’t let the tumblr bubble trick you into thinking everyone views something negatively just because half a dozen popular blogs do.

I want you people to know that you’re safe with me about Episode Ignis spoilers.

I’m gonna play it on Wednesday night if possible, but know that I won’t post or reblog any spoilers.

You’re safe with Coon, okay?  (」°ロ°)」

It’s fine if you still want to avoid Tumblr until you play it cause not all the blogs will be safe, I only wanted you to know Coon ain’t gonna do that.

I may offer reactions, and if I do make spoilers they’ll always be under a ‘Read More’ and some warnings, until most people have played and it’s fine to post normally. So you’re safe (˙︶˙)

Hey Do You Know Bill Wurtz?, that’s the guy who made History of Japan, that really popular pit of memes. I’m probably not the only person that really wants him to make more shit, but that’s gonna be hard.

If you haven’t heard of this thing yet, it’s called patreon. See how he gets only 72 bucks a month for stuff from 26 people?

These are his views on the History of Japan video. Bill Wurtz deserves to have more support for the stuff that he is doing, and he should be able to make a decent living out of this entertainment. I would appreciate if you either reblogged or donated to his patreon:

I don’t even know Bill Wurtz personally but he needs more support

If you can’t support Bill Wurtz financially through patreon, please please please check out his youtube:

We have officially reached 36 patrons, $100 per month, and over 1000 notes. This has been an amazing breakthrough, thank you tumblr, and keep spreading this around! (Still can’t even begin to believe this has only been less than one day)

42 Patrons, $111 per month, over 2000 notes. I understand 10, maybe 100 notes, but 2000!!! In this one day I’m sure Bill Wurtz will be thankful that people are out there who can support him. Thanks to all of you who donated and most importantly, reblogged this post.

Getting rid of nazis on your blog

Hey, if you’re sick of nazis on your Tumblr but you keep on having to block new ones, Tumblr’s most recent experimental feature can probably really help you out. It’s called Reblog Graphs and you can test it here

Basically, what it does is show you a network of how your post was reblogged and who were big influencers in getting lots of reblogs. That’s useful in general but extra usefull if you want to know who to block to get rid of shit on your dash.

For example, this post that I wrote got a lot of notes and when I use Reblog Graphs is generates this graph:

I’m the yellow dot and all the other dots are reblogs, the bigger the dot, the most reblogs originated from that reblog. Next, I can click on the dots and see who they are and what content they added. For example:

When @thatdiabolicalfeminist reblogged my post the result was a lot of supportive reblogs, helpful feedback and conversations that I want to have.

But check out the other cluster:

When wogbeginatcalais reblogged my post the result was a stream of hateful comments by white supremacist, nazi blogs and nazi trolls. Not stuff I want and one reblog started all of it.

I had blocked a lot of white supremacist blogs when the hate started, but according to Reblog Graph I missed out on quite a lot of the most important blogs that were causing my post to be noticed by these shits in the first place. By blocking key nazi dots in this chain, I can now more effectively stop nazi shits from finding my posts. Good to know!

That’s all. Happy Tumblring.

Fandometrics In Depth: Shipping

Shipping is one of Tumblr’s favorite hobbies, drawing hundreds of millions of engagements each year. On Tumblr, shipping exists in many forms: fan art, fan fiction, manipulated GIFs and videos, and roleplay, just to name a few. It’s a common practice no matter what fandom you’re in—from television shows and movies to K-pop and video games. On Tumblr, the most popular type is slash—ships comprised of two male characters. Out of the top 150, 95 (63%) were guy/guy love.

We grabbed the top 30 ships from 2013—2016. 2013—2015 were ranked by reblogs alone. 2016 and 2017 are ranked by their Trending Score. This includes volume of searches, original posts, and likes in addition to reblogs. We’ve sorted the source content behind each year’s top ships below.

  • TV | 40%
  • Music | 40%
  • Anime | 10%
  • Celebrities | 6.67%
  • K-Pop | 3.33%

2013’s most reblogged ships were predominantly slash (76.67%). The remaining 23.33% were all heterosexual (het) ships—there were no femslash ships in the top 30 that year.

The most reblogged ship of the year was from an anime: MakoHaru (Nanase Haruka and Tachibana Makoto, Free! series).

Though slash (66.67%) and het ships (26.67%) comprised most of the list in 2014, femslash ships (6.67%) made their debut.

2014’s top ship was Destiel (Dean Winchester and Castiel, Supernatural). Though the ship is not canon (yet), the 200th episode “Fan Fiction” paid homage to it.

In 2015, femslash numbers also doubled, representing 13.33% of the ships. Slash accounted for 60%, het just 26.67%.

2015 was a big year for Larry shippers—Larry Stylinson (Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles, One Direction) reached No. 1.

Slash ships began to take a dip (56.67%) in 2016, while het ships grew (36.67%) and femslash decreased (6.67%).

Despite femslash’s waning popularity, 2016 marked the first year a f/f ship not only cracked the top five, but hit #1. Clexa (Clarke Griffin and Commander Lexa, The 100) was embroiled in controversy when Commander Lexa was shot by a stray bullet and killed immediately after her and Clarke’s relationship was consummated. Her death launched a critical look at the “Bury Your Gays” trope by journalists and fans alike, and the argument that LGBTQ+ fans deserved better than the storylines given to them.

In the first half of 2017, slash has continued to hold over half the conversation (56.67%). Het ships and f/f ships are starting to equal out at 26.67% and 16.67%, respectively.

This year’s top ship so far? Klance (Keith and Lance, Voltron: Legendary Defender). Since we launched the weekly ship list on May 1st, Klance has been No. 1 seven times.

tumblr servant is a godsend with a lot of useful functions but my primary use for it is this

so let’s say you’re a big fan of transformers so obviously you don’t want to blacklist #transformers, and you’ve got this cool friend kyle, but every single time kyle posts or reblogs something about transformers it’s just… it’s garbage. it’s a Bad Post. he has bad opinions and he should feel bad. you know that it’s petty shit but it irritates you every time you see one of his bad, bad transformers posts. but most of what he posts is awesome! you don’t wanna unfollow his ass! so you make a tumblr servant instead and even if he doesn’t tag shit about shit, if the word ‘transformers’ is in the post at all you will never see it. peace is restored on your dash. you are free.

you can also do a lot of other shit like dim posts or highlight posts or give you notifications etc etc etc but i mostly just hide Bad Fandom Opinions because i’m petty

I finally have a Redbubble!

It took a while because I am a dumb and all my files were too small for the poster sizes, so I had to redo some of them them. (The redbubble versions are thus sliiiiightly different from the tumblr versions I’ve posted previously, most noticeably the Diamond Base Luna poster.) For now it just has my art deco style steven universe posters. More stuff to be added later.

Mental Health: The Data

Hey, Tumblr! We hope the week two prompts for Mental Health Month are treating you well. In the spirit of the theme, posting it for each other, we wanted to celebrate one of the most helpful communities out there: yours. You’ve helped shape Tumblr into an incredible community for support. To take a look into exactly how it’s flourished over the years, we teamed up with Fandometrics (@thefandometrics) to bring you some sweet, sweet data.

How you talk about mental health

Discussion around #mental health has steadily grown year over year since 2013, with a 248% uptick of original posts and reblogs made between 2013 and 2016. In that same time span, original posts and reblogs about #therapy increased 29%. Much of that conversation was rooted in real people sharing real stories. Emotional and honest stories, like how therapy can help you better understand your life, how to say good-bye to the wrong therapist, or the difficulty of making the sometimes daunting decision to begin therapy for the first time.

There has also been a significant rise in people seeking ways to take care of themselves. The self-care movement has seen huge increases in searches (733%) and original posts (567%) between 2013 and 2016. Over the past six months, we’ve seen total engagement (searches, original posts, reblogs, and likes) around the #self-care tag spike with correlations to holidays and events in the news:

  • 240% increase the day after the US Presidential Election
  • 321% in the days following Christmas and Hanukkah
  • 561% in the days leading up to the Inauguration, and
  • 342% in the days following Valentine’s Day.

Anatomy of a post

To get a better understanding of what the public-facing conversations consist of, we looked at the top posts for the #mental health, #positivity, and #self-care tags from the past few years. We noticed a few trends that continued to appear over and over again:

For the first year ever, we have a community guest post. Meme Documentation (@memedocumentation) got deep into the nostalgia surrounding 2017’s most popular memes.

Animated TV
The only list where a self-loathing horse and an extremely rich duck can be found in competition with each other.

Live-Action TV
In the golden age of television, every single one of these is a winner. Some are just winnier than others.

Moonlight beat La La Land in this list, too, but neither were No. 1.

You like them! You really like them!

Once again we find ourselves with a disproportionate amount of men named Chris. No one is complaining. Especially the men named Chris.

Television Personalities
The alternative name was “people who get paid a lot for being themselves on TV,” but that wasn’t very catchy.

For a community based on competition, the sports community on Tumblr is incredibly supportive and kind.

Wrestling Superstars

Five of these bands have numbers in their names, ranging from one to 1975.

Get your light sticks ready!

K-Pop Band Members
Did your ultimate bias make No. 1?

While we’re talking, let us offer you some free advice: Block less. Reblog more. Let your followers know what musical you’re against or what you’re for.

Fun (?) fact: This is the only list in the batch that features a man who died over 400 years ago.

Anime & Manga
You’re gonna triple axel when you see what’s No. 1.

Tumblr Communities
They aren’t any more or less important than the communities that didn’t make the cut. They’re just the ones that tagged their posts the most.

Food & Drink
This list is zero carbs, and yet it’s full of carbs.

Old MacDonald had a blog, T-U-M-B-L-R.

Dog Breeds
Some puppers, a few pupperinos, a couple of fluffers, and, of course, a h*ckin’ boofer. boop this list, fren

dating people with bpd

written by a girl who loves a girl who has bpd

disclaimer: i do not have bpd (borderline personality disorder) and this was written from my experience dating a beautiful girl who has bpd and she proof read it!! i just want to help others whose partners have bpd! this may not apply to everyone because everyone is different but these are things that i have experienced in my relationship!

this is important for every relationship whether the person you are dating has bpd or not, but it’s crucial for when you’re dating a person with bpd. this is important because certain things that you may not even think about can make them sad or even a bit angry. it’s important to talk about what triggers them and be super understanding when their triggers seem a bit uncommon, and let them explain their boundaries and symptoms they experience. it’s important to be patient and listen to them.

some people with bpd have a blurred sense of reality and need to be told what’s real and what isn’t. even if it’s just the color of their jeans, it is still important.

some individuals with bpd have an intense fear of being abandoned, which usually comes from early childhood abuse, and need constant validation to reassure them that you aren’t going to leave them. be patient when they ask if you wanna breakup with them, or if they ask if you’re mad at them, or when they say their sorry for even the slightest of mishaps.

personality disorders have tons of bad stigma surrounding them and individuals with these mental illnesses are demonized and made out to be like monsters in the media. it is important to ignore all the articles and posts about bpd that demonize them written by neurotypicals. people with bpd aren’t inherently bad.

impulses are things you want to do. some impulses can be self destructive while others are not. most people with bpd don’t have impulse control like those who don’t have bpd do. a thing that works for me when their impulses are self destructive is (assuming that you’re their fp) asking them how they would feel if i did that, or asking them to do virtually anything to take their mind off it. and if that doesn’t work, it’s important not to get mad at them if they do it. they don’t know when an idea is bad or good, so just be patient and understanding and don’t be a fuckass.

educate yourself on the disorder and read about the symptoms. the best person to talk to about bpd is your partner. because everyone is different, it’s important not to limit bpd down to certain symptoms. figure out what your partner experiences and read about those. i suggest following the bpd tag on tumblr or even browse it a bit to get a general understanding of the disorder. bpd is very complex so it’s important that you get a general understanding and realize that it’s not relatable to you. certain posts may be relatable but do not think that you can reblog them, because the extent in which they are felt is extremely different. most people with bpd have very intense emotions and feel things that we feel to a much higher level.

to conclude, dating someone with bpd isn’t hard or scary. however, it is different from dating someone who doesn’t have it. it’ll be hard if you don’t research it or ask them questions or get a general understanding of it, but if you do it’ll be easier for the both of you. people with bpd aren’t inherently abusive, and it is possible to have a stable relationship with your partner.

Stay strange, Tumblr

To continue your deep dive into The Upside Down, here are a few Tumblrs to add to your dash:

Keep watching. Keep blogging. And please, don’t forget to tag your spoilers.

Hey Guys! So I’ve noticed that art theft has been quite the thing lately, (especially people reposting art.) I also know that some people aren’t sure about the difference between a reblog and a repost, so hopefully I can explain this today!

Reposting happens when you take someones art and make a new post for it (be it on a different website or the same one.) Most artists do not like this. Some will allow it with proper credit, but you should always ask permission first.

Reblogging is when you share the original post on the same website with other people. Most artists love when you do this!

Why reblog? It lets other people find the artist more easily (and to see more of their work!) it lets the artist know people are enjoying their work (which is a huge motivator for sharing it), it provides proper context for the work, and more!

Please share the art you like by reblogging it, and remember never to claim other people’s art as your own. : )

Fandometrics in Depth: The Defenders

Early this morning, in the weeist of hours, Netflix (@netflix) released a miniseries two years in the making: The Defenders. The show features four major characters that each starred in their own Marvel (@marvelentertainment) show: Daredevil (@daredevil), Jessica Jones (@jessicajones), Luke Cage (@lukecage), and Iron Fist (@marvelsironfist).

These four shows have had their time in the Fandometrics spotlight and the community around them is extremely dedicated. The excitement for the new series is nearly palpable. With all four characters on one show, The Defenders is set-up for success.

The Defenders, historically

The first series to debut was Daredevil on April 10, 2015, followed by Jessica Jones on November 20, 2015, Luke Cage on September 30, 2016, and Iron First on March 17, 2017.

With 16 appearances on our Television list, Daredevil has appeared on more lists than any other Defender, partially due to being the only series that had a second season run thus far. Jessica Jones has appeared eight times and Luke Cage twice. Iron Fist never made it onto a Fandometrics list. This could be attributed to the whitewashing controversy around the titular character’s casting. Y i k e s.

The stars have appeared on our Celebrities list a number of times as well. Charlie Cox and David Tennant are tied with each appearing four times. Though David Tennant is beloved for his time as the Tenth Doctor, most of his rankings took place in late 2015, correlating with the release of Jessica Jones.

We parsed data and perused our lists from the last six months to bring you the hottest, freshest numbers. Though Iron Fist was the most searched (120% more search volume than the next highest Defenders show) and most posted about (9% more search volume), Jessica Jones wins for most reblogged (3% more reblog volume). Daredevil, which fell into the number two spot for searches, original posts, and reblogs, had the most likes; 4% more than Iron Fist.

Here’s a fun little experiment.

over 2 years ago, right when tumblr was at its most biphobic, I made a separate blog. A secret bi discourse blog, basically, where I could reblog things and fight biphobes without worrying about people i know irl finding out things about me that i’m not ready to come out to them about

Not long after making this blog, I kind of drifted off and did other things. This blog has been primarily abandoned for a long time. I’ve occasionally popped back on to post some things, but mostly it’s been left to gather dust.

And then I realized something. Every single person that I followed on this blog, which began its life as a blog to fight biphobia on tumblr, was a bi person or someone who also was vocally against biphobia. I blocked a lot of people for being really awful biphobes… and then I kind of left. This blog and its following list and block list are a time capsule from the heyday of biphobic discourse on tumblr

So I came back on again, and I went through a bunch of blogs, and here’s what I’ve found:

I have scrolled through my dash, I have checked the blogs that I followed for being vocally protective of bi people on tumblr. And what did I find? FOUR exclusionists. All of the rest are either inactive, have not posted enough to determine a position, or (overwhelmingly) inclusionists. In fact, my dash on this blog is almost ENTIRELY inclusionist posts. On a blog I created to follow people defending bi people.

So I’m checking the block list. All of these people I blocked for being biphobes.

I went on their blogs and to /search/ace

Is this a scientific experiment? Nah. Are the sample sizes large enough to say anything definitively? No. But it is really telling that a dash that, 2 years ago, was full of bi positivity and defending against biphobic tumblr discourse, is now entirely the same thing but for aces.

So the next time an inclusionist tells you that this is ALL rehashed 2014 bihet discourse, maybe listen to us.

With nearly 15 million engagements (searches, original posts, reblogs and likes) during the first season run, Riverdale was the 44th most trending tag on all of Tumblr: that’s more popular than the tags #Harry Styles, #Star Wars and #Pokemon, to name a few. Among TV shows, Riverdale was the fourth most trending program, right behind Voltron: Legendary Defender, Steven Universe and Skam.

But what were the top performing episodes of Riverdale? Glad you asked:

Top Characters

Jughead Jones, played by perennial Tumblr fave Cole Sprouse, was the most talked about character. In fact, 28.8% of the conversation was focused on our behatted narrator. The full list breaks down as follows:

  1. Jughead Jones | 28.80%
  2. Betty Cooper | 20.70%
  3. Veronica Lodge | 16.11%
  4. Archie Andrews | 12.62%
  5. Cheryl Blossom | 7.35%
  6. Kevin Keller | 4.53%
  7. Reggie Mantle | 2.79%
  8. Jason Blossom | 1.43%
  9. Josie McCoy | 1.38%
  10. Alice Cooper | 1.15%

It was a big 15 weeks for Jughead. In addition to being the most discussed character, he was one half of the most popular ship: #Bughead. This canon relationship between Jughead and Betty dominated the show’s ship conversation, accounting for more than half that discussion. Even though Chip Zdarsky’s (@zdarsky) Jughead is canonically asexual, Riverdale’s Jughead is still trying to navigate the fluidity of his sexuality through this relationship.

  1. Bughead (Betty x Jughead) | 51.17%
  2. Beronica (Betty x Veronica) | 32.37%
  3. Jarchie  (Jughead x Archie) |  8.63%
  4. ArchieRonnie (Archie x Veronica) | 3.11%
  5. Barchie (Betty x Archie) | 2.84%
  6. Cheronica (Cheryl x Veronica) | 1.70%
  7. Valarchie (Valerie x Archie) | 0.18%

I’ve been on tumblr in the fanfiction realm (reading and writing) for years now, and these are the things I’ve noticed over the years.

  • If you read it, say something. It doesn’t matter if you drop as an ask or a message, reblog, like or reply in a post. WE DON’T CARE. Say something. It can be insanely detailed to an incoherent rambling such as “fbdhsfbdfabasdhfb.” Most anything will make us smile. There are some days where one of these messages will give us the desire to continue writing. I get it if you don’t want to reblog because it doesn’t fit the “aesthetic” of your blog, or you don’t want to like it because (like me) you have this thing about keeping your likes organized, but  replying to a post leaves literally no evidence on your end and will make the writer smile.
  • Don’t offer advice if they haven’t asked for it. Although it shouldn’t, hearing people say that they would’ve done something differently, or whatever scenario wouldn’t work, or a straight up insult, or whatever it happens to be, will bother us more than it should. If something about a piece is really bothering you, ask the writer if you can offer something constructive - and by constructive, I mean, offer a solution, don’t tell me I suck balls. :) In my case, when this happens, I delete your ask.
  • This is a BIG ONE, and a very simple one. WE ARE NOT MACHINES. We have lives, and we also like to write. We do so for free and on our own time, so don’t complain if you don’t get an update when you think it should be up. (This isn’t an issue for me thankfully, but I see this a lot with multi-chapter fics. People want what they want when they want it with no regard for the writers feelings.)
  • While many writers, myself included, desire recognition for our work, the majority of us write because we have too many feelings inside us and need to get them out in some way. We write for ourselves and your enjoyment of those pieces is a happy accident, so when you look at a story and think it should’ve gone differently, that’s because you weren’t the one writing it. We wanted it to go a certain way.
