Sing Me To Sleep

A Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir fanfic
Summary: In which Marinette nurses a concussed Chat back to health. Unabashed MariChat fluff.
Snippet: Marinette observed him briefly as he reclined on the couch, eyes closed with a look of self-satisfied contentment on his features. She was tempted to snap at him and tell him not to get too comfortable – she wasn’t going to wait on him hand and foot indefinitely – his cockiness definitely didn’t need any bolstering. But he just looked so peaceful, like he was right at home and this was the most natural place in the world for him to be. ‘I wonder how mom and dad would feel about taking in a stray cat…’

Pinks and yellows, frills and lace, sparkles and glitter – these were the things cherished most by the merry toddler as she twirled about the room in her favorite dress-up tutu. Today she was Princess Belle, beloved by all her plush animal subjects in the kingdom of her living room. An elaborate spread lay in front of her as she danced, so she was careful to avoid the delicate plastic teacups and the croissant Maman and given her for her afternoon snack. Her world of make-believe was full of sunshine and rainbows, despite the grey and wet atmosphere that hung around her ‘castle’.

Rain began to patter against the windows, but she fancied it to be the sound of the court minstrel striking up a jolly jig for the beloved princess to dance to. As her pace quickened, she became lost in her performance, her adoring subjects cheering for their beautiful leader to dance faster and faster. It was in her fervor that she forgot to carefully check each step before she made it, so when a flash of bright light shone in her peripheral, her distraction cost her an unfortunate misstep and she found herself tumbling headfirst into her tea party. The clap of thunder that followed rattled her nerves even farther, and soon the shock of her fall gave way to the realization that she was in pain, and scary loud monsters were coming to storm the castle.

“Marinette! What’s the matter?” her most loyal knight hastened to her side, leaving his post in the kitchen, where he had been working on preparing that night’s royal feast.
Through sniffles and sobs, the child fell into “Her royal knight, Sir Papa!”’s consoling embrace and first chastised him for getting her title wrong – again. “I’m not Marinette; I’m the princess!”
With a soft chuckle, Papa argued, “Every daughter is a princess, so even if I don’t always call you my princess, you always will be, mon petite Marinette.” Rubbing her nose affectionately with his own until she giggled, he then repeated, “Now tell me, Princess Marinette, what seems to be the trouble?”

the no bullshit guide to getting your shit together: for the lazy student

Let’s be honest: time management and organization? They’re really hard. Sure, at first you might feel like you’ve gotten the hang of them, that you’re in control of your life. But how often have you fallen off the wagon? Procrastinated on one thing and the next moment, you’re behind in all your classes? I know that sometimes laziness feels like a part of who you are, but honestly, fuck that. Do you really want to give up your success for the disinterest of a moment?

If your answer is no (it better be no, or you really need to get your priorities straight), let’s get to it.

STEP ONE: BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF

“This class doesn’t even matter.” “I don’t care about my grades.” “I can finish this the day before.” Sound familiar? You might feel great now, but when you’re staring down at your report card later, it’ll feel like you just got punched.

This is a cliche, but the greatest obstacle to your success is yourself - especially the lies you tell yourself! Sit yourself down and be honest about what you need to improve on. Be as blunt as you can, but for god’s sake, don’t throw yourself a pity party! There’s no use agonizing over what you can’t change. Instead, set realistic, achievable goals, and make a game plan. Struggling with math? Go to extra help. Behind in all your classes? Stay in for a couple nights and actually work.

STEP TWO: STOP WITH THE FANCY SHIT

Now you know what your goals are, but maybe you want some inspiration, so you log on to tumblr and are instantly bombarded by all these beautiful, well lit shots of the most gorgeous bullet journals, planners, and notes. Impressive, right? Well, I’m gonna let you in on a little secret: they’re all useless! A simple phone planner works just as well, if not better, than a fancy agenda, because you’ll always have it on you, it’s not a hassle to carry around, and you don’t feel obligated to make it look pretty.

Riddle me this, where are you going to find all this extra motivation to keep prettying up your bullet journal? To write all your notes in perfect, colour coded printing? There aren’t many times in life where taking the easy was out will actually benefit you, so take advantage! Stop wasting your time; get a phone planner and write your notes in your natural goddamn handwriting.

STEP THREE: CLEAN YOUR ROOM

Yep, your entire room - not just your study space! This one can be put on the back burner for a bit if you’re on a really pressing deadline, but I wouldn’t recommend it. I’m notoriously messy, and if I don’t watch myself, I’d find myself in dirty-laundry-and-old-notes hell. A little bit of organized chaos is fine, I even encourage it! But try working when your desk is covered in mounds of paper and you have nowhere to put your laptop – it’s just not conducive to success.

Keeping your entire room clean is a way to stave off stress, frustration, and even embarrassment, because nobody wants to show potential roommates how much of a mess they are.

STEP FOUR: ACTUALLY WORK

Yeah, I know what you’re thinking: “actually work? Who does this girl think she is?” I’d probably think the same thing, except I’ve learned the valuable lesson of sucking it the hell up, and you will too. When you get home from work, grab a snack and work. When you have a free period, figure out what’s due and work. Stop reasoning yourself out of work: you’re not going to finish this later, and that will be on the test. There’s really not much to say about this one, because it’s the step that requires the most raw effort, and you’re really only going to find that within yourself. Tell yourself what’s at stake, and realize that, by setting the standard for your mediocrity now, you’re potentially trapping yourself in a cycle that will last for years.

STEP FIVE: CUT YOURSELF SOME SLACK

Maybe you’ve been on top of your shit for a day, a week, or even a month, and that’s really great. But then… you fail. You miss a deadline or you bomb a test. So what do you do now? Do you allow yourself to fall back into your old habits? Fuck no! Everyone fails, even that studyblr with those perfect bullet journal photos and a perpetually clean study space. I’m going to tell you something that’ll sound really strange: you should value your failures, especially if you worked hard to avoid them. What?! Be HAPPY about failing when I actually TRIED? Yeah, you heard me right. If you don’t know how to handle failure, then when you inevitably experience it, your reaction will be much worse.

Failing hurts, and boy, I know how embarrassing it can be. But learning how to deal with failure, and especially how to keep trying after it happens, is an invaluable lesson.

STEP SIX: TREAT. YO. SELF.

Disclaimer: I’m not suggesting you treat yourself after the most basic of tasks, because please. Treat yourself when you know you goddamn well deserve it. Remember that “all work and no play makes jack a dull boy.” If all you do is study and do your homework, then, pardon my french, your life sucks. If you don’t have friends, play a video game! Eat an entire jumbo chocolate bar! Indulge in whatever the fuck you want, you deserve it. I’m someone that has trouble prioritizing future benefits over immediate gratification, so by allowing myself little pleasures, I save myself from crashing and burning.

Hope these tips helped, but remember to take them with a grain of salt - you’re you and I’m me, and different things work for different people. Good luck!

Ok, so as I have pointed out and I have seen others point out, the porn bots are up to a new scheme. They reblog your posts (doesn’t seem to matter what kind of post it is) with a sexual caption or comment. These bots are not even following you; they’re just reblogging from you. It’s much more subtle and easy to miss. I’ve seen a few people say that they’re deleting the original comments and putting their comment in it’s place, but I haven’t actually clicked through to see if that’s the case.

Thankfully, there is a way to handle this without having to click over to their blog. You can report the reblog and block the bot all in one place. While on the dash, click on the notes in a post. If you see one of these comments, click on the three dots in the upper right corner of that comment. A drop down menu will appear. Select “Report.” This generates an automatic message to Tumblr. All you have to do is confirm it. You don’t even having to type a message. After you report the reblog, you can block the bot with the next option in the drop down menu.

You can do this for both your own posts, as well as other people’s posts. I just was looking through the notes of someone’s post and saw one of these comments and it let me report and block it. Be a good neighbor; if you see these notes on someone else’s post, report and block them. I have noticed that after a day or two the reblog no longer appears in the notes, so Tumblr does seem to be addressing these reports on an individual basis.

@staff please get these porn bots under control. This is the only site I have ever been on where this is a problem. Even other content sites that allow not suitable for work content (such as 500px) don’t have this massive porn bot problem.

facebook and reposting

I know nobody’s here for long spiels, but this might be a bit lengthy… I’d much rather fill my dash with replies to you guys about stuff that has actual substance, or just post art in general, but this needs to be said.

Please don’t message me to ask if you can re-post/re-upload/re-distribute my work. I have an instagram, twitter AND tumblr where I distribute my work. That’s where I’d like to keep it.

I appreciate the respect you’re giving by asking, but it gets exhausting to keep saying ‘thank you, BUT’…it says clearly on my description page to Not Repost Anywhere. It does not say ‘Please only repost with permission’ it just says Don’t Do It. If you send me IM’s about re-uploading my work on instagram/FB/twitter/wattpad etc, I will ignore it. My silence isn’t an unspoken ‘do whatever you want’, it is a blatant ‘no’. OTL

In terms of Facebook - I respect and admire the effort put in by those who run translation fanpages - but I will also have to automatically decline all of your requests. Not because I don’t want my work to be accessible to those who don’t speak English, but because I’ve had multiple facebook accounts re-upload my work without my consent and with barely any credit/proper captioning of the work. And whenever I’ve tried to fix the issue, I’ve either been blocked, or had the re-posters try and lecture me about how I’m asking for the impossible.

Artists don’t ask for much. We do this for free and because we enjoy sharing our love for a series with the world in the best way we know how - by drawing out our feelings and ideas. It’s honestly a bonus and privilege to be able to earn money from my fanwork/fanmerch, and I greatly appreciate every gesture of patronage.

Artists shouldn’t have to ‘suck it up’ or be ‘aware that this comes with the territory’. Some artists, especially those who share work on Pixiv, face very real VERY serious legal repercussions if their fanwork is tracked back to them from sites that they did not consent to it being uploaded to. It doesn’t take much to paste a Pixiv artists description into google translate to see if they have said ‘Do Not Repost’ in their native tongue.

Please respect artists. Please look at our descriptions, read our FAQs and consider ‘why am I re-posting in the first place? Do I have explicit permission? Did I check if they allow this? why not just support and spread my appreciation for their work by reblogging their art post, or telling friends about their blog/twitter/pixiv?’

Artists are not machines made of endless amounts of money, time, or energy. We’re human beings that thrive on feedback, communication, and mutual respect. I wouldn’t have gotten to where I am now if not for the wonderful, kind people who supported and encouraged me on my art accounts. To those who support artists by re-blogging our work and/or keyboard smash their thoughts at us, I love you dearly. To those who support artists by purchasing our prints/keychains/charms/standees/zines? You guys are phenomenal, we couldn’t do half of what we do without you.

To the re-posters however? And to those who try to lecture artists about the Ways Of the Internet and how Reposting is Inevitable? The solution starts with YOU, not us. Mutual respect and honest communication, please utilise it.

10 Things to learn to improve your tumblr experience.

1. Learn to post for yourself, and only for yourself. It doesn’t help anyone when you only post and reblog things because they are popular at the time. You may think people won’t notice, but your followers do. Never lie to yourself. Your blog is your own. Use it.

2. Learn that not every fight must be fought. Sometimes it’s easier to just step away from a problem that triggers you too much - and that’s absolutely okay. You don’t have to fight things that you don’t feel comfortable to fight. You are allowed to step away.

3. Learn that you cannot please everyone. As soon as you start to put yourself out there people will come at you. It doesn’t matter if you’re trying to be the nicest, informed, and open-minded towards everyone. You will always offend someone. When someone searches for something to attack you, let me tell you they will find something. You have to accept that not everyone can be pleased. It’s hard, but it’s reality.

4. Learn to ignore anon hate or hate in general. People who want to hate you will hate you. You cannot do anything against it. Breath. Delete. Go on. Those people are not worth your time.

5. Learn that it is okay to click away. Tumblr is loud about voicing opinions, shipping and social justice. Sometimes from people who are not as educated as they try to give the impression and search for any little nag to push limits. Don’t start a fight. It won’t do anything good here on tumblr. If you feel the need to do something against social injustice go out and do it yourself. Don’t do it behind a screen. It leads to nothing except hate and venom and people trying to gut each other out. If you read something that just riles you really up - be it about a series or a pairing or something social or whatever - just click away. It brings nothing. You will only feel more angered when the person answers and it will go back and forth and back and forth and - time you could use to do something else more productively. And with less stress.

6. Learn that your opinion =/= the opinion of someone else. You might like x pairing, while someone else thinks it is disgusting. Or the other way around. Learn to accept these things and leave it be. What good does it bring to try and force your opinion onto someone else? You’re not a dictator. Everyone is free to have their own opinion. Just like yourself.

7. Learn to respect people. Learn to respect artists and writers and - yes - edit makers too. Some people sit hours before their screens to produce something. They don’t write/draw/do edits for you - they share their stuff with you. If it is something you don’t like, just ignore it. Never tell them what they did wrong in your opinion - remember point 6. Your opinion is not theirs.

8. Learn that attacking someone =/= educating someone. If someone doesn’t know something or said something harmful in a post, don’t attack them immediately. Often these people are just not educated about the subject. Going into their askbox and leaving hateful, sometimes vile messages and calling them names or even threatening them will lead to nothing. If you really want to reach out to them try to send a polite message. Check their age. Most people who react like this are surprisingly young. If they block off and don’t want to be educated, no matter their age, there’s nothing you can do. Swallow your anger and click away. It’s not worth it. The real world still waits for you after you log off and hating on a stranger brings you nothing.

9. Learn that no one is perfect. Definitely not you. People make mistakes. Learn to forgive and move on. Holding a grudge brings only sorrow and misery.

10. Learn that tumblr is not the world. The real world is so much worse. Try to enjoy your time here instead of letting it ruin you.

cvvtx  asked:

Hi! This is really random but I bumped into one of your posts and I've ALWAYS been interested in witchcraft since I was really young. Recently I keep thinking about it and stuff but idk where to begin. I was wondering if you could tell me?:)

Sure, I’ll try my best! I do have a beginner tag where you can find this original post, but I’m going to copy and paste the majority of it for the purpose of this ask.

“I’m going to start off with three things you should consider before deciding to be a witch. These are not necessary, but are suggestions.

One - What is your primary goal or what you want to achieve from becoming a witch? If you are just interested in it for the aesthetic, or because you think it will make you look cool, I would reconsider the reason behind your interest. This isn’t to say that people haven’t come to witchcraft this way and have been successful, but it may take you longer to grow into. Something else to consider is that having this identity can be dangerous depending on your location and situation. Those that dress as witches for the aesthetic are probably not trying to be harmful, but can sometimes cause a false sense of belonging to those that are practicing witches. (I asked a girl once if she was a witch because she wore a pentacle and I was looking for a local friend and she laughed at me.) Being a witch is often lonely and kept as a personal identification.

Two - Witchcraft can be happy and sunshine and rainbows, but at it’s base it is not something to laugh about. Witchcraft is about using the world around you and bending it to your will. That is a huge responsibility to have on your shoulders, as what you do can often affect others around you, whether you mean it or not. You have to be able to accept that witchcraft means work, responsibility and dedication. It is not a toy.

Three - Not everything you see is up for grabs when it comes to magical practices. There is (yes, there is) such a thing as Cultural Appropriation and it is a harmful thing to spread and practice. I’ll leave you more information on this later, but the point is that not all practices and paths are open for you to explore. You need to be able to look at everything objectively and do research and ask questions. Where does this practice come from? Who started it? What culture is it from? More often than not, when you engage in these types of practices, you are not even getting the original information. Why would you want to so something that is just a half-assed version? It’s disrespectful and harmful to the actual, living people of color (POC) that still practice the original forms of magic or ideology that so easily gets passed off as “ancient and mystical” when it is really just a white-washed version.

Some other tidbits to keep in mind.

Magic is not black and/or white. It is a neutral force that you bend to your intentions. Calling “good” magic white, and “bad” magic black only propagates racial inequality and the subliminal message that POC are evil.

You don’t have to be Wiccan to be a witch. Wicca is a religion/cult/practice where members worship the god and goddess, revere nature and often use magic in order to supplement worship. They follow The Rede and the Three-Fold Law. Most of what you will see on Tumblr is actually Neo-Wicca, which does not require a practitioner to be initiated into a group by way of a Priestess or otherwise. Wicca is an initiatory cult. Neo-Wicca is based off of Wiccan teachings, and often allows the practitioner to be solitary.

You can follow a religion (any) or you can not follow a religion. Witchcraft can be viewed as a religion on its own, but generally speaking it is a practice that can be blended with religion or not.

Witchcraft does not equal Satanism - as Satanism has many forms and ideologies it branches to as well, some not even involving magic.

You don’t have to be pagan or worship any deities to be a witch.

You don’t need to be white to be a witch. (I’ve been asked this!!!)

You don’t need to be straight to be a witch.

You don’t need to be able-bodied to be a witch.

You don’t need crystals.

You don’t need fancy tools.

You don’t need to read Tarot.

You don’t need an Ouija board.

You don’t need to communicate with spirits.

You don’t need a familiar.

You don’t have a spirit animal unless you are Native American and studying in a tribe. (Please read this post)

Smudging is also NA, see above. Please refer to it as smoke cleansing.

You can curse.

You can choose not to curse.

You don’t have to practice every day.

You can take extended breaks.

You don’t even have to call yourself a witch! Witch is a gender neutral term, but some feel uncomfortable using it because of its feminine history. You could use Wix, sorcerer(ess), magician, practitioner, cunning man/woman, etc. You don’t even need a title at all.

You don’t need a magical name unless you want one.

I’m sure I’m forgetting something along the way, but the bottom line is that whatever you choose to do, you are valid. All you need is yourself and the drive to learn and practice, whatever that may mean to you. There is no right or wrong way to be a witch, unless you are doing something that is harmful to oppressed cultures and people.”

More Words on Art Theft

I don’t know how many times I’ve said this, but please.

Stop. reposting. art. 😢

Many of you do this without malicious intent and even think you’re doing us a favor. I understand. You want to share things with the world. But like writing papers, you either need to have permission from the original artist OR you need to cite them (give them credit). Sometimes, an artist will allow either/or. Others, like myself, do not allow art reposted at all, credited or not. Only a certain few have permission and with specific pieces only. Here’s a definition for what art reposts are:

“Saving an image/art into your hard drive/computer/phone as a separate file and then proceeding to upload that file onto your profile(s).”

I’ll be honest. I’m tired. A lot of us are. Artists are constantly facing a battle with art theft and more than half the time, they lose by giving up or they stop making art entirely. I’ve since gotten into a habit of reporting whenever I’m alerted but I have no time to go hunting down for art reposts. Most recently, I experienced a case of an art reposter deliberately hiding their actions behind a private account, which brings me to this post.

First of all, to those who I’ve already reported from, please understand, I am not angry, nor do I hate any of you. I’m simply disappointed and while you may not care how I feel, you have to realize that what you’re doing is technically illegal and against the Terms and Regulations of the websites you re-upload art in. I just want you all to learn/realize that.

And I’m saying this now. It doesn’t matter if you’re using a public or private account.

I have actually experienced a few occasions where a private account follows me and I notice that they appear to be fan-accounts. I’ve tried to ignore those. However, with this most recent issue, I attempted to follow back one of my followers, mostly out of curiosity (and a bit of suspicion). Long story short, I was rejected. In the end I found out that that they had over a thousand posts, majority of which were art reposts, a few from mine, many others from friends and other artists. But based on how I was rejected by the user, it’s clear they did not want me to see any of that (nor do I believe they would allow other original artists to see their account either).

I won’t divulge how I found out or who I’m talking about in confidentiality.

So with that, I’m telling you straight. Just because you’re on a private account does not mean you’re safe from getting caught.

I don’t try to single out anyone regarding this issue. Like I said, I don’t go hunting. So if you find yourself getting reported then, you probably just lucked out, I suppose. At least when it comes to my pieces.

When I report something, it’s simply because I’m a copyright holder and I need to protect my work. I don’t do it out of spite. If anything, I do it to teach. I’d rather see an account change their ways than have their entire Instagram/Youtube account taken down because of multiple copyright violations.

So if you’re one of these people, please, I implore you to take down any artwork that you know is not supposed to be there (i.e the artists do not want their work reposted/You do not have permission to re-upload their work).

Here’s one way to think about this: Artists take time to make their artwork and post it online. You would take *less* time putting an image through a search engine to find the original source of the picture. Just saying! ^^

You. Are. Better. Than. This.

Now, if you have any grievances or comments (say, you’re one of the people I reported from or you’re guilty of reposting art), you may message me on Tumblr. I am opening the floor.

TL;DR: STOP. RE-UPLOADING OR REPOSTING. ART.

This photo is going around on the internet right now, like some cheap meme with the caption “Here’s a photo for all those upset about the Muslim ban.“ I was compelled to write a response. I know this is a tumblr for Pokemon GO and I’ve tried my best for these months to keep posting fun things about this fandom but I cannot stay silent. I am sorry for the deviation from the norm you have all come to expect from me, but this I cannot abide. This is my message:

My father worked at the World Trade Centers from 1998-2001. He survived that day because he took me to school that morning when I was in my third or fourth day of 6th grade. This isn’t about my father, though, because he can tell his story in his own way when he feels it is appropriate. I will explain my own story.

I had been pulled out of class that morning. They didn’t tell me what had happened, just assuring my 11 year old self that my father was okay and that there was a fire at the World Trade Centers. I know they were lying. They couldn’t put me in touch with my father. I knew something was wrong. I knew about the 1993 bombings. I often wondered what would happen in the towers fell on the city, looking down on it from above, if such an attack were to happen again.

Sitting in the principals office I was filled with anger, sadness, disgust, loneliness, despair, anxiety, depression and chaos. My father might have been dead, killed by terrorist from a land I knew nothing about. I sat in that office for 45 minutes thinking nothing but that.

Then my mom came to get me. She told me my father was okay. Then I saw him. He was crying. We hugged. I told him that as long as he was okay I was okay. That made everything okay.

I had every right to be upset and vindictive against the muslim community because of the acts of an element of radical extremists attempting to murder my father. In fact some of my peers actually encouraged me to fill my hear with hate and anger, to put aside my childish wonder of the world and build walls in my heart to separate me from the muslim faith as a whole. The propaganda on television and the fact we were entering into two wars as retribution for September Eleventh didn’t help.

But I couldn’t do it. Something inside of me wanted to answer the burning question of “why?”. So I did some research in the middle school computer lab and very quickly found my answer. There is a large contingent of radical terrorists, of every nation and faith, that are drawn to the cause because they have no other options. I read that a suicide bomber in Iraq was paid $20,000 to carry out his attack. This money was needed for his family to pay for shelter, electricity, food, water, security and heat. The basic essentials that allow us to be human and not think with hate and sadness but rather with compassion and understanding. The people in Afghanistan, in the mountainous regions, join extremist groups because they have no resources to sustain their life.

That was when I learned about the concept of ‘sustainability’. The Brundtland Report in 1987 defined sustainability loosely as any action that leaves the world in a better or same state as the way you came into it. I decided at that point, as a 12 year old, to not fight the extremists with a gun, but rather to help get the muslim community the essentials they need so they never have to feel like terrorism is the only way to support themselves, their family or have their message heard.

Islamic extremists tried to kill my family. I do not hate the muslim community. I am a vocal opponent of the muslim ban, registry or oppression. All people no matter what race, creed, nationality, faith, background, color, gender, sex, identification, whatever deserve to be treated as human beings. Because thats what we all are when you get down to it. We are humans, of many glorious and wonderful backgrounds and interests, that should work together rather than divide ourselves. We are one species no matter what you look like or sound like. The blood that runs through my veins runs through the veins of the man in Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkey, Somalia, France, Russia, China, North Korea, everywhere.

We are a nation that has a proud history of accepting people of all backgrounds. I am German. If this ideology had been pervasive in the 1930-40s then wouldn’t I have been held accountable for the actions of the Nazi’s in the same way that people of the muslim faith are persecuted for the actions of the extremists? I have muslim friends. If I can not hate them, can you try to exercise a little empathy for the innocent people caught up in this?

I will leave you with a couple of quotes for thought:

“In these days of difficulty, we Americans everywhere must and shall choose the path of social justice…the path of faith, the path of hope, and the path of love toward our fellow man.” - Franklin Roosevelt

“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!” - Statue of Liberty

Love always. Reject hate. Be compassionate. Be empathetic. Love thy neighbor. Protect the innocent. Fight for the oppressed. Crush evil. Be vigilant. Be strong. Be good.

I love you all. Remember that, always.

Some quick musings on the new update

thelostspecial.com

Here is the text, with my first thought comments in bold:

I was going to draw this out longer but the truth is, I’m bored.

OK

There is no Lost Special. There never was, and there never will be.

And you know this objectively?

Once again, in their need to keep this midnight train going, TJLC fans created something out of nothing.

Even if that is that case, why do you care?

Seeing this obsession with “The Lost Special,” even though series 4 was clearly over, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to run a sociological experiment with a vicious fandom in denial.

Steven brought it up, not us.  Also, even if the series is over, that doesn’t mean it’s over.  They’ve repeatedly said they have through series 5 mapped out. It was only in December 2016 they started hinting at “we don’t know, this could be it.” Sure Jan.

My poorly assembled website took not more than twenty minutes to cobble together (as some people rightly pointed out) and very little effort to maintain.

This is a lie.

“By the pricking of my thumbs (something wicked this way comes)”- I edited an ominous message into the code and title, referencing the Macbeth quote used in The Six Thatchers. It was strange to see how many people didn’t recognise the “pricking” quote and even criticised the website because it allegedly didn’t call back to Sherlock in any way- except that I was directly quoting a series 4 episode.

Except most of us did recognize this?  What about your dancing man code reference to Unto the Breach?

Watching fans defend how shoddy the website is, in their need for thelostspecial to be real was especially funny. It was also funny to see the people who guessed the website was fake and said as much, but didn’t even care because they desperately needed something to hold onto, with Sherlock over.

Whichever, why do you care?  Why would it be funny to you?

Then there’s the people who clocked that thelostspecial.com wasn’t “real”… and yet never question their own dedication to TJLC and/or the existence of a fourth episode of series 4, concepts entirely created by Tumblr.

The lost special site was only one of hundreds of indications something is fucky.

Anyhow. Next, I threw a random bunch of numbers and photos out there to see how people would scramble and react, and you didn’t let me down. Mostly I chose the first photo I found of a character that I liked the look of, in Google; there wasn’t real logic. I re-used some images out of laziness. I used an online generator to make the Dancing Men/Henry V code post.

So the meanings we found in everything, tying it somehow back to Sherlock, or ACD canon, or anything else were all coincidences?

What do we say about coincidences?

40, 27, kra, the various “hints” you think you found on the website and found countless possible meanings of, they were chosen at random. Even the elephant photo was chosen at random. It wasn’t until after I edited it into the main website photo that I discovered the poor thing was named Mary and had been shot and executed for killing a man (on 9.13.16. Everyone overthought that one too much.)  So I used that info because it was serendipitous. “The universe is rarely so lazy?” Friends, the universe is often lazy.

“They were chosen at random.”  “The universe is rarely so lazy?

Sure Jan.

When I added a black image with five pixels of colour to the website, you did not let me down. People played with the image until they became convinced it was QR code spelling something out. It was just five meaningless pixels of nothing, created in MS Paint.

Yet you did the whole thing in 20 minutes.

The static gif was taken from a YouTube video of TV static from some movie, with an old Moriarty close-up thrown in.

We know, 28 days later.  With Moriarty loaded in.  Again, whole thing in 20 minutes.

The photo of John and Sherlock sitting in the watery 221B, I got it from Farfarawaysite.com, and scaled it down a little because the photo was large. That’s it. I didn’t change the proportions in any way, or alter the colours, or add anything to the photo. Anything you saw in it, you imagined. I left the big black header on the website as a hint to keep your eye on those, since the thing I changed on 2/11 was in the similar Twitter header.

”That’s it. I didn’t change the proportions in any way, or alter the colours, or add anything to the photo. Anything you saw in it, you imagined.”

Like Murderous Mary being photoshopped into the back picture? Sure Jan: http://whimsicalethnographies.tumblr.com/post/156824256785/221bloodnun-whimsicalethnographies

I changed the plain black header of the Twitter to a black one with a word embedded in it. The profile photo was changed to a plain black photo with XX hidden in it. No one bothered checking it, though clearly the account was active again, so I changed the profile photo to show the Xs, as a hint to look deeper. Finally people found the “clue” today, not that it matters. The word spelled out there is another blind alley that leads nowhere.

Then accept all our follow requests.

MMTE: The source code message was a hint toward Murderous Mary the Elephant, which some of you guessed but no one looked for it.

murderousmarytheelephant.tumblr.com

(Don’t bother trying to access it, there’s nothing in there.)

DON’T LOOK NOTHING TO SEE HERE, EVEN THOUGH THERE’S A PASSWORD.

There was no set schedule for changes to thelostspecial. I used intermittent reinforcement to keep people frustrated but coming back for more. That’s why I added and removed things at unexpected times. There is no pattern.

Ok?

For people wondering, wow, why would anyone take so much time to do this? Well, I didn’t. Creating the plain black squares with a few letters, throwing a message into the source coding,  and uploading the new website photo of John and Sherlock took maybe 5 minutes. Creating a side blog with no posts and keeping it private takes one minute.

Except the photoshopping you DID do as established would have taken more.  Even searching for the first image you found would have taken time.

Overall, it takes less than twenty minutes a week to do this, once it was set up, because really? You do all the work for me. You all did what TJLCers do best- you took a bunch of random data, inflated it into something much more complicated than it really was, and created your own narrative out of it. Even knowing it might be nothing, and was probably just a fan-made site, you’ve still allowed yourselves to get worked up over it and allowed yourselves to hope. You’re reading into nonsense and finding clues where there are none, and naturally most of those “clues” pointed exactly where you wanted them to point to. Confirmation bias at its finest.

Well all I get from this is that we’re smarter than you are.

Learn from this.

Stop falling into conspiracies. Trust yourself when you can see that something isn’t real or likely. Alternately, find something that doesn’t make you feel sad or heartbroken.

Seriously?  “Trust yourself when you can see that something isn’t real or likely.”

Instincts are to be trusted, John.

Also, my instincts have gotten me into a pretty good place. I’ll keep trusting them, thanks, and they tell me something is fucky.  We’ve seen this episode before.

Goddamn you’re arrogant.

A few final notes:

“And in conclusion *jerk off motion*

I was somewhat entertained by the several dozen times people attempted to reset the password for the website and access the control panel. If I was petty, I would’ve logged your IPs and reported you to your ISP. (Don’t worry, I didn’t. I don’t care that much.)’

You cared enough to look.

I didn’t send the “mole” anons or any other messages on Tumblr. I think other fans decided to join the game. I imagine they’ll continue until they get bored, too.

Read: I can’t say why everything else is fucky too.  Must be more people like me.

The only twitter account connected to thelostspecial.com is twitter.com/thelostspecial. I have no idea who runs the “contact” twitters but I’m positive they’re fan accounts. (If you think BBC-sanctioned accounts would post like that, I have a bridge to sell you.) As for my twitter, I set up the thelostspecial twitter account, followed some BBC-related accounts and left it alone for a week while TJLC fans went wild trying to suss out who I was following. That’s all I did with it.

Then accept my follow request.  Seriously, YOU’RE SO CLEVER I need to follow you to learn your secrets.

I didn’t start thelostspecial Instagram account. Someone else did that, I don’t know who.

Nobody asked.  Actually, I didn’t even know there was an instragram account.  Did anyone else know?

And if you enjoyed hunting, try a legitimate online riddle game, such as Amnesya.com for a challenge! All the fun, none of the TJLC and fandom “fucky” business.

Well, since you brought up “fucky business,” why are they screenshots of the Shrewd Living posts in the “Museum?” Did you do that too? Wow.  In charge of a scam website.  Oh, you don’t know about that?  Then why put it in there?  Why, John?

Nah.

Sherlock Series 4 is over. This is the end.

Thanks for playing TheLostSpecial! Goodbye and God bless.

Seriously, we’ve seen this episode before.

WE’VE SEEN THIS EPISODE BEFORE.

Karamel/Supergirl Rant.

A few weeks ago I’d promised myself that I wouldn’t respond to Karamel hate on Tumblr, but I’ve had enough. I’ve seen so many posts about Mon-El being a misogynist, abusive, and toxic (like, WHAT THE HELL???), and recently I’ve seen people pop up here and there and saying that Kara being with Mon-El somehow went against the show’s “feminism”. This even goes to the point of saying that Kara shouldn’t be with Mon-El, a guy she seems to genuinely like, and instead be with Lena when she is obviously straight.

But we’ll come to that later. First, let’s look at what feminism is. Here are the couple of definitions I’ve found online:

the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes
-Merriam Webster

a range of political movements, ideologies, and social movements that share a common goal: to define, establish, and achieve political, economic, personal, and social rights for women. This includes seeking to establish equal opportunities for women in education and employment.
-
Wikipedia

any ideology that seeks total equality in rights for women and people who self-identify as women, usually through improving the status of females. Feminism is rooted in ending men’s historical power over women
-Rational Wiki

As you see, feminism isn’t about demonizing men, it is about getting men and women to the same level in terms of rights. Men and women, and all other genders, should be equal in what they are and they aren’t allowed to do/feel/say etc. That in no way means women can’t be with men, that they need to be single if they want to be strong and independent (or be with other women) or being with a man undermines their strength and makes them weak. No. Just no. And that is a really, really unhealthy message to the young girls of the generation.

So, let me make a list of misconceptions about feminism, and let’s go through why it’s wrong to think that:

Women should be single in order to be strong and independent.
Um, no. Just no. I don’t know what you think strength means, but it certainly doesn’t mean not ever loving someone and being in a relationship. You can still be with a man and be strong and independent. One doesn’t exclude the other. This is such a wrong message to give to girls, making them feel bad for loving someone, making them think that somehow that love is wrong and makes them weak. It doesn’t. Being with a man doesn’t make you dependent on them. You choose to be dependent on them or not. As long as you’re treated equally, as long as you have the say in the relationship as much as your boyfriend/husband does, as long as you want the relationship and you’re happy, it’s more than okay, it’s great

Now how does this ties to Karamel? Well, as far as I can see, Kara is more than happy with Mon-El. I haven’t watched season 1 in a very long time, but I can assure you that I haven’t seen her laugh this much around anyone. It’s seen in her face, you can see it in the way she smiles at/around him. Now how is that a bad thing? Would you really rather Kara feel sad instead of being with Mon-El? HOW IS THAT FEMINISM??? Women have the right to do the things that make them happy, be with people that make them happy, and if Mon-El is that person for her then WHY THE HELL SHOULD SHE NOT BE WITH HIM??? She chose him, right? We saw it in the last two episodes. She wanted to be with him. If she didn’t want Mon-El, the poor boy given her a lot of chances to back down, from accepting just being partners with her to stepping back when he thought she didn’t think they would be a good match. If she truly wanted that, you can bet that Kara would back down, just like she did with Winn, just like she did with James. Are you really so blind to realize that saying that Mon-El forced the relationship on Kara actually UNDERMINES HER CHARACTER? HER CHOICES? You are all obsessed on Kara being a feminism icon, how is her doing WHAT SHE WANTS is going against that? Her actions actually teach girls to be brave about their feelings, to go for what they want.

Women shouldn’t be with men, they’re bad (but that only extends to white and straight men and not POC/LGBT+, because somehow those things exclude you from that “men” category).
Okay, why? Why shouldn’t women be with men if they want to be with men? Isn’t that, I don’t know, taking away their right? Isn’t feminism about giving women right, allowing them to do what they want? What if I’m straight? What if I want to be with men? Am I not allowed? I just don’t understand this, because as far as I can see, not all men are bad. There are some bad men that you should stay away, that’s true, but that doesn’t extend to everyone. I have many guy friends that respect me, support me, love me for who I am. I don’t have a boyfriend or a girlfriend, but that’s merely because I don’t really like someone right now (that’s a choice as well. If I liked someone, I’d definitely want to be with them). So if Kara likes Mon-El, why shouldn’t she be with her? Just because he’s white and straight? How does that equal to bad? I’m a very pragmatic person, and I can’t really see the logic there. Racism was bad because all humans should be equal, regardless of their skin color, beliefs, etc. Saying that Mon-El is abusive and toxic just because he’s white is also racism. It’s a different kind, but it’s still a prejudice against a certain race. That’s what racism is, right? Here’s the definition:

prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one’s own race is superior

Now that doesn’t mean that I think Mon-El is perfect. He’s not, not by far. But again, which one of us is perfect? Think about your best friends/boyfriends/girlfriends/family. Are all of them perfect? I’m gonna bet that they’re not. I love my best friend to the moon and back and do anything for her, yet that doesn’t mean I think her every action is right, that she can’t make a mistake. She does make mistakes. But I forgive her, because at the end of the day anyone can make mistakes. I might be angry at what she did, I might not approve it, but that doesn’t mean I’m just gonna leave her for it. I’ll point out that maybe she should’ve done it differently, and she’ll listen to me because she’ll know I want the best with her. Same happens when I make a mistake. I’m saying this because, as I’ve said, Mon-El isn’t perfect. He wasn’t a good person in the past, that is true. He even said it several times. That doesn’t mean he can’t change for good. M’gann had fought for White Martians, slaughtered Green Martians, yet I don’t see anyone accusing her for that, because she’s changed. Why can’t we extend the same courtesy to Mon-El? Why can’t we forgive him as well? It doesn’t make sense. Yes, he’s made mistakes. Yes, I don’t approve all of his actions. I was pretty mad at him when Kara found out he was beating people up for money. I was mad at him when he went after Mxy to fight and kill him. But I forgave him, because he was only human. Had feelings like a human, at least. He was jealous of Mxy. Can you blame him? If you were dating someone, and suddenly this beautiful, talented, and generally perfect person showed up and claimed they wanted to be with your lover, wouldn’t you be jealous? I would be. And it was pretty big of Mon-El to admit that he was jealous because he thought he couldn’t give Kara what Mxy could give her.

All in all, yes, Mon-El made mistakes. But that doesn’t make him a bad person, just like the mistakes Kara made, the mistakes Barry made or Oliver made doesn’t make them bad people. Barry went back in time and really messed history up, yet I’m sure many people that hate on Mon-El forgave him. Oliver killed many people in the past, yet no one judges him for that. Why is Mon-El so different?

And also, related to this point about not being with men, should I remind you that in the show Kara is straight? Is that too hard to understand? She never once showed interest to any women, not in a sexual way, except in some people’s dreams maybe? As a bisexual I know what it looks like to be attracted to women. I don’t see that in Kara. Is that a wrong thing? HELL NO! Why the hell being straight the wrong thing? Why the hell is that when people yell “WE SHOULD RESPECT LGBT+ PEOPLE” it’s right & honorable, but when us Karamel shippers point out that Kara is straight (so far) and we should respect her choices as well that we get roasted? Or branded homophobics? Do you people know what you’re talking about? I’m all for LGBT+ couples being represented in TV shows, but not by making an obviously straight character suddenly homosexual, or bisexual. No. Just no. That’s beyond forced. If you want to have a LGBT+ character on your show, then build up to it. Don’t force it down our throats. I don’t see writers taking that road with Kara. And frankly, that’s okay. Being straight is okay, it doesn’t make you a devil incarnate. It’s normal, just as being LGBT+ is normal. It’s not so different.

As a last point, I want to say to all of the people spreading hate and saying that Karamel is racist/homophobic, why are you doing that instead of supporting couples that are LGBT+ or POC? Spreading hate to straight white couples doesn’t earn you anything. Aren’t Iris&Barry dating in the Flash? Isn’t Sara bisexual? Isn’t Alex lesbian? And there’s also the thing between Nate and Amaya in LoT. Why don’t you go support those couples to show your love? Is it so hard to understand that hating on white&straight people actually undermine your cause? We should not promote LGBT+ and POC couples by hating straight and white couples, we should do that by supporting LGBT+ and POC couples. We shouldn’t promote feminism by hating men, we should promote it by supporting strong, independent women. Kara is a strong, independent woman, just like Alex, just like Maggie, just like Sara and Amaya and Caitlin and Iris and Felicity and Thea and more and more people in the DCTV universe. These are women that decide for themselves, that don’t take shit from anyone, that is open to love and relationships but don’t let men control them, that aren’t afraid to say no to the things they don’t want and pursue the things they want… We should support that.

anonymous asked:

I saw the "gayest things jungkook did" post and was wondering whether you'd be willing to make a list for v too? does tumblr allow lists that long?

here we go:

  • One of his favourite photographers whose photography he’s put as his display photo on the fan-cafe and who he talked about in the wings: ynwa live show thing is Ryan McGinley, who is openly gay and if you look at a lot of his photography and on his instagram, a lot of the photos are of mlm and wlw and is just generally a gay figure of the photography world
  • his role in blood, sweat and tears has a lot of gay coding in it, from the bit where he gets hit by hoseok’s arrow to the implied kiss (basically the statue is V) at the end
  • when they were filming the I Need U MV during the scene where he’s lying on the ground with Namjoon he said ‘we’re on a date’
  • that taehyung/jin moment at the MAMA Awards 2016
  • whatever it was that happened at isac 2017?????
  • that time he got drunk and kissed the jimin plushie thing????
  • I don’t think it’s a reach to say that ‘Stigma’ very much brings to mind like, a post-coming out story I know a lot of people who’ve related to it on that basis and it’s probably the interpretation that makes the most sense
  • when he sang a little bit of Sam Smith’s Lay Me Down on a BTS+ vlive thing? - Sam Smith is an openly gay music artist and Lay Me Down is one of his songs that has a specifically gay music video
  • that whole story about the first time him, jimin and jungkook met and they all just???? slept half naked cuddling for some reason
  • when he fell for the photographer during the seasons greeting shoot
  • when he posted a picture with somebody with long hair and everyone thought it was a girl when it was actually a long haired male staff member
  • when he held hands with jimin and jimin posted the picture with the caption ‘i only have you, V’ with no explanation
  • that little gslip up during hwarang promotions where he accidentally said something to minho like ‘what would you do if she asked your sister out’ or something like that?????? and he was just beaming it was wholesome
  • the puma adverts…. are gay…………
  • that gay drama video he made with jimin
  • that picture that exists of jin and tae in a bath idk
  • when he did the ‘no boyfriend? no problem’ meme that was pure :(((((((((
  • on the vlive where they were at kcon france he was singing bits of ‘I Know’ and specifically sang the ‘know you love me boy’ bits
  • hansung was a gayby idk why he just was
  • the whole celebrity bromance thing with minjae???? so sweet
  • i’m pretty sure he’s called a lot of men sexy before????
  • when he walked in those heels in star king????? effortlessly????? and grinded along with the guys on the stage it was pure
  • also another thing to note when they were on star king, they watched a male dance group who were performing in heels and most of the other people watching were looking like “:/” and tae was like this:

there’s probably more I’m forgetting but I’ll add to this if I think of anything else

xxcuriouserandcuriouserxx  asked:

Hey do you have any tips for someone starting out as a fan fiction writer?

I don’t know if those will be relevant or helpful at all, but here we go:

  • Write for yourself.

This will always be my number one advice.

When you write, you put a piece of yourself out there. And yourself cannot please everyone. There’s a reason why I say I write because I can’t afford a therapist and it’s right there. You write for yourself first and foremost, because you enjoy it, because it allows you to escape, or to express something. Writing is incredibly personal, so don’t let others influence you too much.

Don’t write for the hits, the kudos or the comments. Write for yourself.

  • Learn how to write a summary.

Ok. That’s highly hypocritical of me because writing a summary is my ultimate weakness. I’m terrible at them. What I usually do is pick out a few sentences that are enough to pique the reader’s interest without revealing too much of the intrigue.

Don’t write “I’m terrible at summaries, the story is better” or something like that. Don’t ask for kudos and comments in your summary. It puts people off.

  • Check, double-check and triple-check.

There is no best way to make me click on the back button than a story full of grammatical mistakes. English is a rich enough language that you can try to play with it and bound the rules a little, but knowing the difference between “you’re” and “your” is a must, even for the most unconventional writers.

Same for the tense: it’s either past tense or present tense, not both.

Dialogue must be clear. Two rules: your reader needs to know who said what to whom and only one speaker by paragraph.

If you’re not sure about something, don’t be afraid to ask and if you can’t ask, Google is your friend. And use a spell checker.

If you can get yourself a beta, it’s even better!

Your writing will never be 100% mistake-proof but there are some mistakes more easily forgivable than others.

  • Respect the original characters.

In fanfiction, you are working with characters who already exist beyond yourself. They already have existent traits that make them who they are and that are a big part of why people love them so much. Of course, you can play with them, you can add a few of your own, but try to stay true to the original character.

People read fanfiction because of the original work, rarely because they stumbled onto it hazardously. They are here for the characters. They will stick around if you write them respectfully.

And please, do not change canon queer characters’ sexuality.

  • Tag properly.

If there’s a major character death, tag Major Character Death. If there’s anything whatsoever that could trigger someone, fucking tag it.

Otherwise, you are very free in your choice of tags (my tags are all over the place, let’s be real) but try to at least use some that would catch a potential reader’s attention.

Don’t spoil your story in the tags, though.

  • Have a plot.

Have at least a few scenes and the main intrigue outlined before you start writing.

It’s always better to begin with the end in mind. It makes for a more compelling and coherent plot.

  • Choose a point of view and stick to it.

There is nothing more confusing than a scene written with two, or more, different points of view.

If you choose to go with one character’s POV, stick to it until the end of the scene and don’t switch randomly unless your new point of view brings something to the plot, a new perspective or an insight into a character’s mindset. Even then, do not change back. Finish the scene with that character, not the first one.

  • Do your research.

For the love of Magnus Babe, if you’re writing about a sensitive subject or something you know nothing about, if you’re writing smut (especially gay sex) for the first time, if your character gets badly injured and you’re not a damn doctor yourself, even if you’re writing about a country you’ve never been to: do your research.

  • If writer’s block hits, take a break.

It will happen. It’s frustrating and we all hate it, but it will happen.

Don’t try to force yourself to write then. Take a break. Go for a walk. Listen to some music. Re-read something else you’ve written or something by someone else that you really loved. Write something random, about your day, about something entirely different from the story you’re working on. Eat something you love. Just keep your mind off of it for a while.

If inspiration doesn’t come back, skip that paragraph and go back to it later.

  • Interact with your readers.

Reply to comments, DMs, asks on tumblr, etc. Whether you have 2, 20, 200 or 17000, acknowledge your readers. They’re the reason why we do what we do, and we owe them a lot.

  • Try to update regularly.

This is a complicated one, and I’m the first one to forget about that rule.

The chance that I have is that I now have an audience that follows me from story to story and that is willing to bare with my fucked-up updating schedule.

You won’t have that chance when you’re just starting, so a good way to secure an audience and keep them interested in your story is to update regularly. It’s hard, but if you’ve got a few chapters written in advance before you start posting, it’s manageable.

  • Just start writing

Don’t overthink it.

Don’t try to come up with the most complicated plot. Just write what you want to write. If you’re willing to write it, there’s a high chance someone will be willing to read it.

What people find compelling and interesting doesn’t necessarily mean new and 100% original. We all love some good old prompts even though we’ve read different versions of it a hundred times before.

Just write whatever you want to write, and see where it goes from there.

Writing is hard. It takes practice and patience. There is something incredibly rewarding about writing fanfiction, though. The interaction with your readers is immediate and receiving a positive comment makes all the hard work worth it.

So, practice. Have patience. Hold on in there, and most importantly: have fun!

I hope this was helpful :).

8 Common Misconceptions about Sugaring

1. It’s Easy

If I had a penny for every dumb and naive little girl I saw on Tumblr trying to break into the sugar bowl, I’d be a millionaire. From what you read on Tumblr, it may sound like this glamorous, exciting, luxurious lifestyle, but in reality it’s from it. As referenced from a different post, you are the one making the sacrifice in this equation, even if the social construct of our society places money over sex. The amount that your SD is likely paying you is disposable income to him. It is chump change in his pocket that he is looking to blow on something worthwhile. That something is y-o-u, darling.

It’s not easy to sift through the sugar and salt daddies on SA. Truth be told it is dangerous if you don’t do your screening well. Sometimes you can spend hours and hours and hours sending messages and come up with nothing but salts. Sometimes you’ll go on a date and it will be great, but he’ll ghost on you. There may be SD’s who try to undercut your worth by implying you’re a whore… best advice: don’t let them. Know your worth and that you’re the whole, delicious goddamn pie in this equation.

You are the one getting his rocks off. You are the one sacrificing your dignity by going to dinner with a man old enough to be either your grandfather or father. You are the one clearing your busy schedule for him and spending time with him when you could be pursuing other relationships with people your own age. You are the one having sex with someone you would honestly never be attracted to if it weren’t for his money. You are the one with everything to lose.

Sugaring is not easy. In some ways, escorting is easier because after the hour is up, they’re gone. With sugaring, sometimes there is no time limit or sometimes the time limit stretches on and on and on. You just don’t know. So no, to anyone who says it’s easy– it’s not easy. Sometimes you may go months at a time without an SD. That’s just how the sugar bowl is.

2. Girls who sugar are whores / dumb bimbos / gold diggers / or crackheads with no other option…

Girls who sugar are hustlas, bosses, and head bitches who know their worth. That is quite a difference from whores, dumb bimbos, and gold diggers. Want to know a secret? The most successful SB’s are the ones who are the best businesswomen– who don’t do drugs, who have a good head on their shoulders, and who know how to suck a man dry using their charm and wit. None of these things can be accomplished without a good sense of business, a mind geared towards money, and generally just having high self esteem. Girls who sugar are generally sex positive and non-judgmental. Your local sugarbaby is likely a student, and probably knows her way around a textbook just as well as dick. She is probably that girl who always had that something special in her eye, who the boys lusted after, the girls hated, and who your little brother’s friends probably jacked off to in the shower. To be a sugar baby, you have to be enthralling. She ain’t your average hoe– and the best SB’s are always the most exceptional.

3. It’s glamorous

FOR THE TENTH TIME. BEING A SUGAR BABY IS NICE FOR FINANCIAL SECURITY, BUT CAN WE STOP GLAMORIZING IT. It makes me want to knock myself unconscious every single time I read a tweet or a meme about stupid girls making jokes about becoming a sugar baby and how easy it would be, or how they want to sugar but don’t want to have sex with old dudes. Hate to break it to ya honey, you’re going to be having sex with old dudes. That’s a part of the game. Love it or hate it, don’t romanticize it if you can’t take it.

4. You’ll be making a 6k+ a month allowance upon entering the bowl

Whichever stupid Tumblr blogs deluded new babies into believing they’re going to land a 6k+ allowance first go around the sugar bowl are clearly factually incorrect. Any SB knows that it takes some serious pulling to even get 2.5k+, and luck/a whole lot of patience dealing with frogs to land a whale daddy. Chances are, you’ll be making scraps until you learn how to play the game and hit the right targets.

5. All sugar babies wear designer clothing

Honestly only the materialistic sugar babies wear head to toe Givenchy. Most SB’s would rather save their money and invest responsibly rather than blow it all on brand name clothes. There are numerous guides out there on how to look the part without spending the part, if you catch my drift. Anyone can sugar regardless of current financial status… you just have to know how to carry yourself.

6. There’s only one right way to sugar

This is something that’s a common misconception amongst SB’s. But I’ll tell you right now– whatever works, works. Freestyling is fine if you know how to do it. Looking through SA, Tinder, Ashley Madison, whatever it is, if it works for you and you’re being safe about it, it’s fine. There’s no right way to sugar– just do your research before you jump into anything is all I’m going to say.

7. Platonic SB’s fall from the sky raining cash like Santa Claus

I think this is the most unrealistic expectation set forth by the Tumblr community and the sugar blogs out there that are fake. I will tell you from a sugar baby, firsthand, PLATONIC ARRANGEMENTS ARE NEARLY NONEXISTENT. They are, essentially, the unicorns of the sugaring world and you will have serious issuing finding a daddy who will give you the time of day if you cannot even entertain the thought of eventual intimacy. That’s just how it is. If someone is offering you an outrageous sum of money for a merely platonic relationship, it’s probably a scam.

I don’t know much about it, so I need an explanation. Why is that such a big deal? I mean, I understand when people, for example, start to make products with you art so they could sell it later. It’s not cool. Or they create fake accounts so they could say that your art is their art. Okay. But why does everyone so angry about posting arts somewhere else? What’s the problem if your watermark is on the right place and your nickname on tumblr is also mentioned? People just want to share your art

Great question!

For starters, most art thieves don’t credit (they crop out watermarks, intentionally misspell artists’ names, insert intentionally broken links, etc.). Furthermore, a number of art thieves DO monetize what they steal, and even harass artists. However, even if credit is given, that doesn’t make it ok for people to take art that belongs to someone else.

For example, let’s say you see someone’s car parked on the street. Even if you plan to return it, and you never claim it’s yours, and you don’t damage it, and you fill up the gas tank, and you write “credit to the original driver” on the car, does that make it ok for you to take someone else’s car for a joyride? Of course not. It’s the same with art.

Here’s an awesome post about the differences between reblogging and reposting, and how reposting hurts artists.

Here’s a shorter (more saucy) post which is also great.

TL;DR: artists have the right (both legally, morally, and according to the ToS of sites like tumblr and Insta) to control where and how their content is shared. For example, I have an Instagram. When I want my work on Insta, I post it on my account. No one has the right to make that choice for me (and a lot of the art I find is ALSO on my Insta anyway, so that argument goes out the window). Art thieves steal revenue and views, make it more difficult for people to find the original artist, and cut artists off from potential followers and feedback. Someone who faves a stolen pic isn’t likely to fave the original pic after that (even if they find it) because why would you fave/reblog/RT the same image twice? That doesn’t help artists. Plus, art theft accounts lead to people only following the art thief and not following the original artists. So while art thieves claim to be “sharing” or “promoting” someone’s art, they’re actually eating away at an artist’s ability to be successful. Basically, the artist is doing all the hard work, and the art thief is reaping all the rewards. That’s just not cool. Artists post art for free (can you imagine a chef just giving out free cake every day, or a singer giving free concerts all the time?). All they ask in return is the respect they’re legally owed. That’s certainly not too much to ask.

You can support artists by liking/faving/reblogging/RTing their work, which will put their artwork into trending/front page/suggesteds/etc. and get them more exposure without cutting them off from feedback and without making it difficult to find/contact the original artist.

You can also ask an artist for permission to share their work–some people are ok with it. As for me, I do not allow my art to be reposted, period.

Thanks for asking!

I have an ask in my inbox that I’m not going to respond to right now because I’ve got a cold and am chock full of the strong medicine that makes me loopy, so responding wouldn’t be fair to either of us.

But it’s tangentially related to self-dx of autism, and so I thought I’d make something clear.

My stance on self-dxing autism:

A lot of ableist assholes - who just wanna be assholes - were all “Self-diagnosis is bad! Only a doctor can diagnose someone!”

And the Autistic community came back with valid points about the misdiagnosis rates, the sexism and racism present in the diagnostic criteria, the fact that many places don’t have assessment capabilities for adults, and so on and so forth, usually also pointing out that self-diagnosis isn’t just something you decide one day, it often takes a while to truly accept that autism is the label for you.

And then the assholes went and pulled a hypothetical person out of their ass.

“What about if some misinformed kid who has only seen some out-of-context post about autism on Tumblr decides that they’re autistic because they think it’s trendy? Wouldn’t it be bad then? What about if some asshole self-diagnoses so that he can use autism as a shield against being called out for being an asshole? What about then?”

And here’s the thing, because we couldn’t disprove the existence of these hypothetical people, a lot of people went, “Yeah, I guess that would be bad. But that’s why it has to be well-informed self-diagnosis.”

And, idk, I think we just gave them free reign on that one.

We’ve basically said that it’s okay to divide people up into good self-diagnosed people and bad self-diagnosed people, and then the assholes just claim that everyone they don’t agree with is a bad self-diagnosed person and we’ve allowed the room for them to do that.

They can rail against self-diagnosis and then say “Well, we only mean the bad kind” when we argue with them, but by “bad kind” they mean “anyone who doesn’t act how I think an autistic person should act”.

Which isn’t to say that no one is ever wrong when they self-diagnose, but I don’t think that the overall effects of that person being wrong are that harmful. Like, they can’t get accommodations or benefits or anything without a diagnosis, and anyone who uses them as a reason to not support actually autistic people was never going to support us anyway.

Which is why I don’t think bowing to the hypothetical is helpful. I think that the party line should be “respect all self-dxing” because I think the few cases where it’s a bad thing really are few, and by saying “only if they did it properly” about such a personal thing, we’re basically telling those assholes that it’s okay to question anyone’s diagnosis on any flimsy grounds they want.

It’s Cold: A Feysand Mini-Fic

Inspired by this post by @greenfire2908art. I hope you don’t mind me writing this inspired by your post…? I saw it a long time ago when I first jumped back on Tumblr and it always stuck with me. And since I’m trying to get to some older fic ideas, I decided to finally jot it down. Thank you for sharing such a melancholy, haunting Feysand headcanon with us!!

It’s Cold

It’s nearing dawn when Feyre wakes up. Even inside the tiny hovel she calls home, winter is thick in the air. The chill wraps her up thicker than any blanket she sleeps under forcing her skin to break out into goosebumps.

Where she sleeps on her side, she can feel a lump of warmth behind her radiating close to her back. Nesta. Or maybe Elain. She can’t remember which one crawled into bed after her.

Fighting off the yawn that will only make getting up that much harder, Feyre sits up in a fog and rubs at her eyes, elbows propped on her knees. She thinks she sees her bow in the corner near the dresser, but maybe she doesn’t. She’s not sure. And it’s too early to tell where her clothes are, but she always sets them out so they’ll be there somewhere.

She stands up and blindly shuffles along with little light to see by. But if she waited longer to wake up, most of the big game to hunt will have already taken cover for the day and there is little left in the woods for her to chase as it is.

Finding her pants, her tunic, her coat, Feyre shrugs everything on noticing how tired she is, more so than usual. Winter does that to her. She allows herself to risk falling back asleep as she sits on the floor to lace up her boots rather than do it standing up. It wouldn’t be the first time she’s fallen asleep in the middle of getting dressed.

The floor looks oddly different without the light of day on it, she thinks. Her fingers pause on the laces as her eyes gloss over trying to focus and make sense of the wood grain. It’s darker than it should be or… maybe that’s just a trick of the dark early morning light.

Her eyes fall heavy and she’s almost asleep right where she sits until…

The bed creaks behind her, one of her sisters turning over no doubt and enjoying the extra space Feyre has vacated in getting up. The noise snaps Feyre back awake and she stands up.

But she didn’t finish lacing her boots up properly and as she steps, reaching for her bow, she stumbles a little, but she’s near enough to the wall where the bow leans that she can brace herself on it.

The collision startles her and Feyre feels something inside her mind shift. There is a scent in the room that shouldn’t be there. She’s not even sure why she smells it at all. And with every second it’s starting to press in on her more and more and Feyre has but all of a second to think that one single word before a hand gently grazes her shoulder.

Faerie.

She spins and the fae male is more than she dared imagine. He is tall and seems to fill up all of the space inside the room. Behind, a pair of dark membranous wings are tucked in tight at his back. He leans in and for a second Feyre thinks he means her family harm, means to kill her, but then he’s looking at her with such concern, and his eyes are soft, and there are little wisps of darkness dancing off his skin. And his touch is kind, not rough. And he’s… he’s…

Feyre looks down at the floor where she nearly fell. Her bow isn’t there.

“Feyre?” Rhysand says.

Her mate. The man is her mate and it was all just an illusion. A cruel reminder of a harsher time brought by the cold winter night to haunt her.

Feyre feels a horrible weight drop into the pit of her stomach sinking lower and lower to betray her all too trusting heart that has grown comfortable, grown safe in her court.

Rhys brings his hands up to cup Feyre’s face and the full weight of his scent envelops her finally. When Feyre looks at him, her mate looks pitifully heartbroken.

“I know,” and it’s all Feyre says, nodding to make sure he knows she realizes she is awake now and understands.

She closes her eyes and Rhys pulls her in close, kissing her forehead. He helps her undress, change back into her night gown, and when she’s done, he carries her to bed.

Feyre doesn’t fall back asleep. She rarely does when this happens. And it has happened before. Not often, but every now and then when the night is particularly cold and nothing in her court seems amiss.

She knows Rhys will pretend to sleep for her sake, but eventually, he’ll wink an eye open and tug at the corners of his lips in an almost smile. “I love you,” he’ll say. “You know that right?”

“I know what you know,” Feyre always replies. “And I love you too.”

ACOWAR EXCHANGE

As we know all too well:

ACOWAR is COMING

Come May the 2nd, regardless of if you want Feysand to live happily ever after, you need Moriel to be canon, or you’re that one person who somehow thinks Tamlin is a Great Guy™, it’s a fair bet you are going to be emotionally destroyed. We can’t predict what will happen, but we’re all fairly sure it’s going to be brutal.

Thus, to prepare for The Day of Reckoning, I’m hosting a fanworks exchange to try and grasp one last shred of ignorant bliss out of the beauty of ACOMAF. If you wish to participate, please fill out the form included below and email it to acowarexchange@gmail.com. This exchange will function like a secret santa: everyone will be randomly assigned to a request, which has to be filled by April 25th. Whether they want to anonymously gift it or not is up to them.

Rules will also be listed below. Fanworks can include artwork, fic, podfic, or really any medium you want to use, so long as you put some effort into it (Remember, someone has to defend their fragile heart against the forces of ACOWAR with this, so try and give them something to hold onto!). If you have any questions, feel free to message, ask, or email me!

If you don’t want to participate, please consider reblogging so that others can see this and hopefully it’ll inspire some people to create even more AMAZING fanwork for this wonderful, if slightly masochistic, fandom!

On Fics, Privacy, and the Fourth Wall

Before I start this post I want to make it clear that this is not an attack on anyone. I truly value and adore each person I’ve had the privilege of interacting with in the fic side of the Hamilton fandom and I’m really not trying to start drama. I don’t want to fight with anyone. None of this is meant as a direct personal criticism of any ONE person in particular, it’s just some thoughts I’ve been having about the fandom as a whole and some personal feelings about my work, etc. I truly love this fandom and the people I’ve met here, but I’ve been in too many other fandoms and seen them get torn apart by this sort of thing. I don’t want that for this fandom, which is the only reason I’m even saying anything.

Tell me more about the Paladin Training AU! What does the rest of the team think about golden boy Shiro, and how does this effect them when they form Voltron for the first time? Tell me more about the first time they decided training and dark history be damned, they're going to do this Voltron thing their way. Tell me about how the team decided THEIR Shiro, (not the Shiro conditioned by training, quiet and submissive before the command, but the Shiro who rebels and protects) is the one they 1/2

2/2 will follow till the end of days. Tell me how these strangers became the team that will save the universe.

(So I originally wrote this from Lance’s POV in tumblr and then lost all of it when my computer suddenly reset.  This version ended up better anyway.  It doesn’t answer a lot of your questions, but they also weren’t strangers in this AU.  They were raised together.  But here’s that story anyway.

Based on this original post)

The short of it was: nothing was the same since Zarkon betrayed them.

The short of it was: Hunk wished things could go back to how they’d been.

Those first few days right after had been terrifying.  The panic, the yelling, the strained atmosphere.  Hunk had wanted to stay in his room for it, but he wasn’t allowed to, and even if he was, Lance would have dragged him out.  For the longest time, they’d had no idea what anyone was talking about.  There were just clipped commands, being told to sit and wait and be good, while horrifying words like ‘rogue’ and ‘attack’ and ‘death toll’ were thrown around, just barely within hearing.

All of them had been put into one room and while they weren’t told not to leave, the implication was strong.  Immediately, Keith turned to Shiro, trying to get him to spill.  In hindsight, Hunk didn’t know why they’d all thought Shiro would know, except that he was older and he was going to be their leader someday, and he always helped with the answers to their nightly school work, so maybe he knew this too.

Shiro hadn’t.

“I’m sorry, I’m sure they’ll tell us soon,” he told them, hands up in placation, and at the time he hadn’t noticed, but when he thought back, Hunk thought Shiro looked just as scared as the rest of them.

That look only got stronger when one of their instructors burst in.  “Shiro,” he called, voice icy, and Shiro stared back, eyes wide.  Shiro always seemed so much older than them, but in that moment he’d been very young looking.  “You are to come with me.”

It wasn’t even an order.  It was a demand.  It was a threat.

“Just me?” Shiro asked, and ducked his head at the immediate glare.  “Yes, sir.”  Iverson’s hand clamped down on his upper arm, rough in a way none of them usually saw, as Paladins to be.

He was dragged away, and Shiro cast another wild look over his shoulder.  “I’ll be back soon,  Stay calm.”

Then he was gone.
