it was like the characters were portraying them

let’s talk about how amazing Avatar: The Last Airbender is for a second
  • Fantasy world not based on typical medieval Europe
  • Was a children’s show that openly discussed war, death and genocide
  • Had several handicapped characters, one of whom was the show’s most powerful person
  • Every single character was a person of color, drawn to represent Asian and Inuit peoples
  • Had a character story arc centered around both emotional and physical parental abuse, whose arc was about learning that they didn’t need the parent who abused them
  • Absolutely BEAUTIFUL ART STYLE AND DIRECTION
  • Three dimensional writing that rivals even most adult dramas
  • Characters dealt with sexism in society
  • Showed citizens on both sides of the war, including showing how the people in the enemy nation were merely influenced by propaganda and an oppressive regime
  • Had romances that developed overtime and actually talked about the issues of forming a relationship instead of just “and now they’re in love.”
  • Characters died. On a children’s show. Characters who you fucking knew! Who had story arcs and were their friends and were kids like them!
  • When those characters died, they left an impact. It wasn’t ignored after a few episodes, the feelings they had for these characters stayed through the entire show
  • Had environmental messages that weren’t cheesy, and they made you take the destruction of the environment seriously
  • SUPERB world building, fleshing out many cultures and histories that always felt real
  • Had a magic system that never felt like magic. It always felt natural and like a solid part of this world with rules that couldn’t be broken
  • The cute animal sidekicks weren’t just there to sell toys. They were characters who had so much emotion to them and were vital parts of the show’s dynamic. Also, the animals never talked yet somehow still portrayed an insane emotional level that some Disney films only dream of
  • Spawned a sequel series that dealt not only with sexism, but with sexuality, religion, and the benefits and dangers from the rapid progression of technology

The point is, Avatar: The Last Airbender is one of the greatest shows of all time and the proof is right there

Does anybody else remember a time, long long ago, when you could just enjoy things?

You could watch a movie and just appreciate it instead of over analyzing every single scene to make sure there’s nothing remotely offensive about it.

You could have a favorite character and just like them and appreciate how great they were written and portrayed, without being told you’re terrible because they’re a villain. Even though they’re FICTIONAL and most likely were deliberately written to be likable. (Even if they were written as an evil character, I still think you have a right to like them, but maybe that’s just me)

You could love and be a fan of the actors without having to go full on FBI agent, looking into their backgrounds to make sure they are 100% perfect and had never made a mistake ever.

You could post about said actor without some busybody little fandom cop, slithering into your inbox to tell you(all too happily) that your fave is “problematic” (god, I fucking hate that word), and you’re disgusting if you still like them.

I’m in my 30’s so I remember those good ole days and it’s kind of sad to know, that most of you will never truly know how great that was. That’s a time long since forgotten. Bummer.

i don’t know if ya’ll are watching the gifted but here are a few reasons why you should

  • its basically an x-men show and x-men is the best marvel, not up for debate
  • cool new powers not seen in the xmcu
  • they portray mutants how they were originally brought up which are a marginalized community so in a way mutants are like poc, lgbt+, immigrants, etc.
  • the story arc is interesting and keeps you invested
  • there are many characters that are realistic and complex
  • they know the law doesn’t support them (mutants) but they fight on anyway
  • they try not to harm humans even if they’re garbage
  • magneto was right is the premise for this series lmao
  • speaking of magneto, his daughter is in it and kicks ass
some advice

so, you’re joining the hamilton fandom and want to produce content? great!! scared of the unofficial etiquette in this mess? let me help.
(disclaimer: this is an UNOFFICIAL guideline. i’m aware that this fandom is a problematic mess that’s full of discourse and the only adult ones tend to be actual legal adults. don’t fuckin @ me saying that hur durr i’m wrong and should rot in hell. this is based off personal experience.)

-SHIPS
•Most pairings are accepted. The main ones are Hamilton/Laurens, Hamilton/Burr, Hamilton/Eliza, Jefferson/Madison, Jefferson/Hamilton, Washington/Lafayette, Maria/Eliza (or any Schuyler sister rly) and Mulligan/Lafayette. These usually have the most content, but also contain the most discourse. There’s also some major minor character ships out there; Lee/Seabury, Lee/KG3, Seabury/KG3 etc. I found Eacker/Philip H smut once. This fandom is literally the reason why Rule 34 exists. If it exists, there is porn of it.
•Polyamorous ships are widely accepted. I don’t ship any personally, but a few big ones are Hamilton/Eliza/Laurens, Laurens/Hamilton/Lafayette/Mulligan, Hamilton/Jefferson/Madison, etc. Basically, a lot of people like the idea of Hamilton’s cheating being converted into a happy, consensual relationship that’s polygamous, and that’s okay. (Please note I’m not equating cheating with polyamory. Hamilton being a dirty cheater doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with poly ships if you don’t want, but to me it seems particularly common, especially with the ships containing Hamilton and Eliza.)
•And I know you want to ask; what’s not accepted? Hard question. This fandom loves its angst, so there aren’t many ships that seem untouchable. For the love of God, though, don’t write anything that’s incestuous. I’m talking father/son, sibling/sibling. Don’t make any of Hamilton’s kids end up with the characters in the show. No, Washington/Hamilton doesn’t count as incest, although I personally can’t stand it.
•BASICALLY, don’t be a dick. Also, bear in mind that James Reynolds is the Umbridge of this fandom. If you portray his relationship with Maria as anything less than abusive, there will be riots. I’ve yet to see an (educated) James Reynolds apologist.

-CHARACTERS

•In terms of physical appearance, this fandom is a little wishy-washy on guidelines, unofficial or no. Tip: don’t whitewash if you’re drawing/writing them as their musical characters. Just don’t whitewash in general. This fandom seems to be okay with historical-era fanart and fanfic, which usually involves the characters looking like they did historically, but don’t romanticise them. Don’t romanticise them in general, but especially if you’re making them historical-era.
•SPEAKING OF ROMANTICISING, these characters were BAD PEOPLE. Jefferson owned slaves, Burr owned slaves, Washington owned slaves, the Schuylers owned slaves, evidence points to Hamilton owning at least one slave. Don’t let the Alexander apologists fool you; they were bad people historically. Don’t refer to them, ESPECIALLY I HISTORICAL CONTEXT, as ‘cinnamon rolls’. They were misogynists against the rights of women and minorities. Don’t forget that, no matter how much you like their characters. The Jefferson you like is portrayed by a black Jew; the Jefferson in history was a racist with a history of sexual assault and a slavery apologist.
•KEEPING THAT IN MIND, personality-wise, what we get from the musical is a little murky. Peggy is a great example of this. Fanon Peggy is very outspoken, sarcastic and a typical millenial. In the musical, she’s shy, hides behind her older sisters and very cautious. This is because of the fact that a) Peggy’s vocals are only apparent in one song through listening alone and b) historically Peggy was very similar to fanon Peggy. THIS DOESN’T MATTER. PORTRAY THEM HOWEVER YOU THINK SUITS BEST. Don’t let the musical force you to make Eliza’s main trait be ‘nice’. For all you Laurens stans out there, it’s okay to let him have interests other than art, turtles and Hamilton. Feel free to give them depth, complexities, flaws. Not only is it fucking refreshing amongst the collection of bland chatfics and high school AUs that seem to reduce each character to a single trait, it’s good for original character practice as well.
•THE SCHUYLER SISTERS get their own section. If you’re doing something historical, remember that they had other siblings. It’s generally agreed that Angelica and Eliza were closest, but Angelica and Peggy and Eliza and Peggy are shown in the musical as being close too (see Angelica dancing with Peggy and hugging her in Satisfied, and Peggy helping Eliza put away her letters and being dragged along with her in Helpless and The Schuyler Sisters). Sometimes it seems that fics reduce them to plot devices, minor characters or love interests; I won’t go all 'SJW!1!1!1’ on you but they are their own people as well, and flesh them out. (This problem is not as common in artwork, since art of them tends to focus on them either as a trio or Satisfied and Helpless companion pieces starring Angelica and Eliza.) Also, fun fact that this fandom seems to have overlooked - all three of them could play instruments.
-REVOLUTIONARY SET AND DEMOCRATIC REPUBLICANS. Things to remember include Madison and Hamilton being friends before Jefferson showed up, Jefferson and Lafayette being close, Mulligan historically being Hamilton’s biggest hypeman (oh, I wish I was kidding) and Laurens and Lafayette being close friends. As for Burr, he’s traditionally relegated to the strange outsider by the fandom. This is more of a personal view, but Burr started off as a member of the Revolutionary Set, and progressed into a Democratic Republican, and this fandom likes to forget that.
-THEODOSIA JR. Theodosia is never seen, only mentioned, which basically means everything about her is fanon. Literally. The only confirmed thing about her are her parents. This means Theodosia is good for inserting an audience-type character into; she’s an empty vessel, essentially, so anything you do to her involves zero fact checking. BEAR IN MIND that Theodosia is usually shipped with Philip, and that some members of the fandom will have expectations of her. Ignore those people. Theodosia is a shell of an OC, so as long as you don’t murder her in childhood or something, there’s no real discourse you have to be wary of. (Apart from Philip/Theodosia discourse, which is apparently a thing? But there’s discourse in practically every ship, so by all means, ignore that too.)
•UNMENTIONED/UNSEEN CHARACTERS. I’m talking Ben Franklin, John Adams, James Monroe, Governor Clinton, them. John Adams appears to be universally hated, John Jay is often used as a filler or plot device, and the others are just used as names. Don’t bother about continuity with them.

-SOME COMMON AU IDEAS
•High School/College Modern AU. This is a big one. There are flaws in it, namely romanticising too much and relegating major characters to 'minor’ status, but it’s so widely used that it’s good to know if you’re new here.
•Modern Government/Law AU. Another big one. Not as commonly used because ugh, research and maturity, but there’s a massive pro to them - more complex themes and 'child’ characters can be added because the main lot are usually older. My personal favourite.
•Chatroom AU. What it sounds - no real fic, just usernames and text speak. Good for laughs or plain fights, but bad for complex emotion, fluff, angst, or major plot. Also, they clog up the tags of less major ships, especially on AO3.
•Soulmate AU. A variety of soulmate AUs exist, but essentially boil down to having some kind of matching mark, etc. Amazing for angst, fluff, plot and character development, but not so great for humour or multi-chapter fics.
•Domestic AUs. Exactly as they sound. Massive fluff traps, no real substance but they’re amazing if you’ve had a shitty day and need something to cheer you up. Fan favourite.

So there you go! Everything you need to know if you’re entering the Hamilton fandom, give or take a few things. Don’t bash ships, don’t romanticise them too much, and take Ron Chernow’s content with a pinch of salt (he’s known for 'not finding’ easily accessible content regarding the women of the Hamilverse). Good luck!

anonymous asked:

reasons why Evak's shippers are fetishizer:1) you'll starting watch Skam after the cuddle scene. 2) writing Henjei fics. 3) were upset for the false rumors of Targei leaving back in March only because you won't get your gay nut. 4) the birthday video was fanservice and disgrace for the LGBT community. 5) only care about the sex part in the hotel scene and not what really important. (1/2)

6) the reason Tareji didn’t win his gullruten for his acting is because it’s wasn’t horny teenage girls with gay fetish who voted, thanks god. 7) even Mari said that all you wanna see is Isak and Even make out8) you make Henrik and Tarjei uncomfortable till the point they can’t interact with each other. 9) you never use season 1+2 isaks gifts, only season 3+4 (2/2). Mic drop.

Hello anon. I heard you’ve been copying/pasting the same message on a number of blogs/ccs, and I’ve been told to leave it alone because you probably just want a reaction out of it. But your 6th point bothered me a little bit so I thought I would answer. I’m not sure why you’re spending so much effort trying to make a claim anonymously, but Isak/Even are too precious for me to just brush off your accusations.

1. I personally started watching Skam while S2 was airing so that’s a fail on your part. S2 spoke to me because it dealt with the reality of sexual assault and how utterly devastating such events can be. How isolation can eat at you and turn you into someone you’re not, making you turn your back on exactly everyone you know, but mostly yourself. How love can turn you into someone you don’t even recognize. S2 wasn’t important to many in the evak fandom, but it was important to me. So alright.
Many started watching after the cuddle scene because they had never seen love between two boys being portrayed so innocently and in such a raw manner. It was poignant. It was beautiful. It was butterflies inducing. There was nothing sexual about it. Just two boys with a crush lying on a bed, smoking joints, and talking about parallel universes while brushing each other’s hair. So I don’t know why you’re trying to shame people who started watching because of that.
Other people started watching because of representation. I personally had never seen a Moroccan girl portrayed in a tv show before and Sana’s character was a gift to me. Other people were drawn to the show because it tackled bipolar and stigma against mental illness. Because it talked about oppression and privilege and eating disorders and depression and the need to feel like you belong somewhere. Because it tackled issues and mundane things we go through every day and that anyone can relate to without glorifying them or turning them into a cliche. The show rang true with so many. So so many. But go ahead and tell me that it’s because of “our gay nut”.

2. ? Some people wrote a few RPF fics. It’s fiction. You don’t have to read it. And while I’m not a fan myself, I don’t like the idea of shaming some people for their thoughts as long as they don’t harass people in real life and post shameful stuff on their instagrams and bother their friends and family.

3. His name is Tarjei. I personally never believed those rumors because I knew Isak meant too much to him and also because people love to spread rumors when there isn’t much to do. Back then, people had this thing against Tarjei because he wasn’t as close to the fans as other cast members, so rumors flew left and right. Still. If people were upset at the idea of him leaving, it was because Isak was their favorite character, because he resonated with them, because his struggle was real and raw and haunting. Not because of “our gay nut”. But go ahead.

4. Please explain how showing a HAPPY gay couple is a disgrace to the LGBT community, because I think you just lost me here? How is a wonderful boy making his wonderful boyfriend a birthday video with footage from their every day life a disgrace? Do LGBT people not deserve a shot at happy representation? Does everything happy have to be labeled as fanservice? Do we need to live in constant angst and pain? I don’t get it.

5. You lost me here once again. I don’t think ANYONE only cares about the “sex part” in the hotel scene. Fun fact, I couldn’t even rewatch that clip because it was so haunting and powerful and incredibly executed. I had chills and I couldn’t stop crying because that’s how incredibly poignant it was. I had to go take a walk. I couldn’t function for a while. There was nothing but heartbreak and outrage after that clip. The reveal was so heavy although expected, and our hearts bled that night. No one was “nutting” to the hotel scene. Everybody was literally shaken to their core, worried about what would happen. Worried about Even. Worried about Isak. Everybody was worried. That clip was a masterpiece and to have you turn it into this is a bit hurtful. Not to mention that the “sex part”, as you put it, was just so beautiful and touching. Even simply wanted Isak’s first time to be perfect. I don’t see why YOU have to fetishize that.

6. The point that upset me. You’re implying that Tarjei* didn’t deserve a gullruten. Tarjei, the 17 year old boy who got the award show to lower the minimum age just to be able to nominate him. Tarjei, the 17 year old who portrayed the inner struggles of a boy so repressed and so isolated and so so harsh on himself, a boy who wanted nothing but to be loved and feel important and safe, a boy who led the loneliest life before allowing himself to feel and love and accept himself. You’re implying that Tarjei – who gave a performance that touched the hearts of so many and who poured his heart and soul into every line and every scene and every blink while attending school and keeping his private life private and staying humble – didn’t deserve a gullruten. You’re “thanking god” that he didn’t win. You’re reducing his performance and Isak’s entire story to “a gay nut”. You’re reducing Isak’s entire arc and journey of self-acceptance and of falling in love with Even who challenged him to his core and made him see just how wrong he was about mental illness and about the world to “a gay nut”. Okay.

7. Yes, we want to see our favorite couple who’s gone through so much just be happy and hold hands and make out and smile and laugh and be happy. Mari does, too. She was mostly there with them when they made the fanvideo. She released the unused pictures. She loves Isak and Even just as much as we do. Your point? I seem to have missed it again.

8. Henrik and Tarjei are fine. They have nothing but good things to say about each other and they did an incredible job portraying Isak and Even. They spent months filming that fanvideo for Isak and Even and for the fans to whom they’re very thankful. You don’t know how they interact in real life. You don’t know a single thing about them and we don’t either. Stop spreading groundless rumors.

9. Again. Wrong. We love S1!Isak and we use gifs* from that era all the time. Not sure what you’re referring to here.

10. *Picks up your mic* *Drops it again.*

I don’t usually respond to hate and propaganda because I don’t see the point. But many people outside this fandom love to point fingers and label us as fetishizers when all most of us do is literally cry at the beauty of their story. Their story has touched us so deeply that we can’t move on even after all this time. It was just so raw and pure and painful, but so so worth it. Many of us didn’t even believe in the idea of ‘love’ before their story, in the idea of self-love and of finding someone who would just accept you for who you are and turn you into a better person and make you want to live your best life. Many of us didn’t have that and you have no right to reduce all of our feelings to “a gay nut”. I don’t know what you get out of this but why would you want to rob people of something that brings them so much joy and hope?

Alt er love. 💛💛

SLAY BITCH, or you get ELIMINATED.

What I respect most about all these female characters is that they were portrayed in the show as being very comfortable in their own bodies, from Flora to Ashi.  I wanted to draw something badass and a little sexy. Kinda like them!

Well, woke up at 2 AM, watched a marathon of King of the Hill and managed to finish this before I have to go into work. But I was determined.

I kinda toned it back a little bit. I kinda wanna to play off of strengths so Ashi is of course acrobatics, Flora about to body slam those Aku minions and Rave Girl (Peaches) ..well…she’s really just a bonus break out star at the end of the damn series. Everybody wants a piece of her. Or at least Jack too. Which he will…stay tuned.

My next Samurai Jack pic is NOT going to be toned back however.
Nah, you’ll know what’s going on.
It’s pretty clear.
God forgive me

TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK :D

Imagine working as a waitress for the Joker and him becoming obsessed with you in a different way than with any other woman before.

A/N: Eh you know I had to. I like this Joker I just wish there was a little more footage for us to be able to capture his true character. It’s certainly unlike anyone that has ever been portrayed but I don’t think any of the previous Jokers were really the same. To me they all are different sides of the same coin, so I don’t think it’s fair to say who’s better or not.

You sighed completely worn out from work. You threw your keys and bag on the table next to the door and took of your shoes, leaving them next to the door as well. You walked into the darkness in your apartment, it wasn’t all that big for you to get lost anyway and the small light that shone through the curtains was enough for you to see at least the outline of most of the objects that were in your place.

You made your way to the kitchen, taking off your hoodie in the meanwhile and throwing it on the couch. You were only in your jeans and a bra but one thing you loved about this apartment was the that it was warm during such nights of the winter when you needed it. You filled a glass with water and downed it all in one. You paused for a moment, the events of the day running through your mind.

Sure, your life was not the most exciting one. You weren’t Wonder Woman, nor would hang out with Batman and up to about half a month ago your life could be considered actually peaceful despite what your work was. But you should expect it to happen, you should have seen it coming: You worked as a waitress in the Joker’s club, he was bound to see you sooner or later.

You weren’t a criminal, nor were involved in anything that had to do with him, you only wanted to make money to help your family. Sure working for the Clown prince of Gotham wasn’t the best way to do so but the only thing you did was serve and it did pay enough for the few hours you spent in there. He did come often, not as much as Harley, but still was there quiet often and you were always glad when at the end of your shift you could count yet another night he had not taken notice of you. It was all going great. And Actually everything was going well, until you were asked to serve him. It was just giving him his drink, what could possibly go wrong you’d thought? Well, everything did after that.

You caught his attention, much to your surprise, and there was no getting out of his mind after that. You didn’t talk much and you didn’t even try to impress him. Hell, you’d be crazy if you tried to, knowing what the blonde could do to you much less all of his other enemies. But somehow you were caught and it was obvious from the first moment. How? The most simple sign was that every time he came, and he would come more often now, he asked from you to serve him. Only you. And what seemed even more surprising was that he’d try to make a talk. At first you didn’t really to talk but you knew you couldn’t avoid it, there was something in him that made your curiosity peak. The mere way he spoke it just made you want to know all the more what was going on through his mind.

But you never got too close. You didn’t dare do so. He was the Joker, and you were just simple you. Getting involved in all of that wasn’t something you wanted, no matter how much the man attracted you. He was a criminal for the love of, the least worst thing that could happen to you was death, quick and easy.

You sighed, shaking your head as you made your way to your living room. A movie could make you forget about the man that seemed to occupy not only your dreams but all day in general. You stopped dead on your tracks when you noticed something on the coffee table, though. You approached it carefully, thankful that there was enough light through the curtains to help you see it. You frowned as you extended a hand and picked the… flower up. It was a rose. White rose.

You blinked several times, having a deja vu feeling. You looked around you in case there was something else you were missing. Last time you came to find flower in your home it was red roses, a big bouquet of them with a let on top of them. It was from him, of course. And of course you didn’t accept it. Not just the flowers but what the letter had along with it.

“You know-” a voice made you jump and your eyes widened as you backed away as fast as you could, trying to fight where the damn switch for the light was “-it was kinda rude what you did.” you knew the voice and the fact that he was standing in the shadows didn’t help at all.

“It hurt my feelings.” he said in tone that you couldn’t tell if it was mocking you or he was serious.

Either way you cheered slightly in your head when your hand came in contact with the switch and you turned the lights on. You blinked several times until your eyes adjusted but at least you now were able to see him. You weren’t really in the mood to play in a horror movie at the moment either. But maybe, just maybe, part of you regretted the decision.

“Wow” his eyes widened and a wicked wide grin spread on his face “Nice choice of color, gotta say lace looks really good on you kitten.” he said with a small growl, approaching you and you felt your face heat up. You hurried to grab your hoodie to wear it but before you could do another move he had snatched it from your hands.

“Nah uh” he pointed a finger at you “Don’t be a bad girl, you still gotta make up to me for what you did with the flowers.”

“Mr Joker-” your voice was low as you took a few steps back.

“Nah nah nah nah. Goooood- will you please not do that? It sounds sooooo… wrong! Gah wrong!” he whined slightly, shaking his head with a deep frown “It’s J, dollface. It’s Mr J. I’m your Mr J.” he breathed out, giving you a grin; flashing his sliver teeth at you.

“Mr J, What are you doing here?” you watched him carefully.

“Uh well, as I said you really hurt my feelings there princess.” he pouted, giving you a somewhat sad but still playful look “I sent you the flowers cause I wanted to but you oh you-” he laughed “You! You! You! You little-” he stopped himself as he grabbed your chin with his hands his smile vanishing “You returned them to me.” he let a small growl “Not very nice of you!” he grinned again and you swallowed thickly.

“It wasn’t about the flowers- you know what it was about.” you didn’t dare look him in the eyes but did when you heard him scoff.

“If I want to give you money then I will, there’s nothing wrong with that.” he raised his hands in the air.

“Money you have stolen!” you didn’t even believe you were raising your voice at him “And I know that the money I’m being paid with are not legal either but- I’ve earned those. I-” you swallowed calming yourself down. He may have acted nice around you before but you shouldn’t forget he was the Joker. One moment he could be sending you flowers and gifts and the other have a gun over your head.

“Thank you for that, I appreciate that you wanted to help me with my family.” you decided to be honest “But the money I am being paid for my work is enough already, I don’t need anything more.” you dared look him in the eyes and for the first time ever since you first met him he was looking at you seriously; a kind of emotion you had never seen before was there.

One more reason why you wanted to know him more.

“You-” he breathed out, bringing a hand up to hold your chin with two fingers and more gently “Oh I like you.” he grinned widely, running his hand up to cup your cheek.

“You’ve got morals- oh I I I I I liiiiike that!” he laughed and you let a small whimper for a moment. You had yet to see him go crazy in front of you.

“Tell me though, little angel.” he got closer to you. You took a step back only to have your back pressed to the wall, your eyes going wide when he pressed his body close to yours; a satisfied predator like smile on his face.

“Is that what really holds you back? Is it me, the big bad demon scaring you? Is all this darkness that surrounds me that scares you? Do I scare you, dollface?” he tilted his head to the side as you only bit the inside of your cheek to keep yourself from whimpering.

“Tell me-” he growled “Are yous cared of me? Are you scared of what I can do to you?” he whispered in your ear, his hot breath fanning over your cheek.

“Please, Mr J.” you whispered, shutting your eyes; feeling your heart hammer as his bare chest pressed against yours.

“Please what?” he pouted, pulling away to look at you “Oh sweet cheeks-” he breathed out as he traced his fingers over he features of your face, them lingering a little more over your lip as he tried to open your mouth with his hand.

“You, oh you little angel-” he laughed, that maniac laugh that echoed through the entire apartment “No. No. No. No. No. No. No!” he exclaimed “You are not scared of me… are you?” he looked through his dark eyes. Gosh you hated to admit it to yourself but you could get lost in those eyes. There were times where, you had taken notice of it, they were light blue and calm like the sea others they were curious as he watched your every move, trying to take in as much as possible as if he was studying you and others he was looking at you hungrily, and they were dark and filled… with lust, like now.

“No” he chuckled “No, you are not scared of me. You’re scared of this-” he grinned as you shivered when his other hand ran up your thigh, to your hip and stomach and up to your chest. You swallowed thickly, eyes wide and a squeak left your lip when he parted your legs with his thigh and pushed your hips with his against the wall.

“You’re scared of how you feel for me, aren’t you little one?” his breath fanned over your face and you held your breath as his lips brushed past yours. You shut your eyes for a moment as he pushed your hips with his backwards and you tried to swallow down the moan that threatened to leave your lips .

“I- I don’t want any trouble, Mr J.” you whispered “Please” you whispered, opening your eyes to look at him.

“Oh but you’re not going to get in any trouble little one, not while I am here.” his hand moved down to your ass “Not while you have me.”

“How do I know I have you?” you whispered and he tilted his head to the side “You’re the Joker, you don’t belong to anyone. Only to yourself. You’re- you’re not loved, you don’t get loved.”

“Oooh I like that you know where I stand but- but princess this- it’s all my decision. I plan and I execute according to my plans. I do what I want, not what others ask.”

“But you said it you- you don’t do what anyone does. Why should I believe you belong to someone- much less me.”

“You- you- you are right! Exactly- but you- oooh you my angel are just that. You are me- or what I at least used to be. I’m yours, all yours and you will soon realize it for yourself.” he pressed his body closer to you, as if it was any more possible.

“But what about Harley? I- I don’t want any trouble with her Mr J.” you whispered, already knowing you were going to give into him anyway. You didn’t want to lose who you were, much less your sanity, but this man had such a strong pull on you it was impossible to think about anything else but him.

Harley won’t dare touch you as long as I am here, dollface. I’m your J, only yours. I don’t do what others tell me no, but you-” he let out a breath, teasing you with his lips… and hands “Oh you can do anything you want with me.” he he breathed out as his lips ghosted over yours “Now- tell me this: Do you… want me princess?”

You didn’t dare say the yes out loud but at the same time you didn’t dare not say it at all.

“Answer me (Y/n): Do you want me to be yours? All yours?” he purred seductively and you swallowed thickly.

“Y-yes” it came out in a a squeak and he grinned.

“Would you take me any way you can? Do you want to take me any way you can (Y/n)?” his voice was low and husky.

Your eyes roamed his face for a few seconds as his also moved back and forth and without saying another word you grabbed his face and crushed your lips to his harshly, letting all the emotions that had built up inside you for all this time.

Someone in a thread over at the Pathfinder RPG pafe said said “These personal issues really distracts from the game. Does anyone remember the days when none of this stuff was a friggin issue and all we had was fun????”

Such a time never existed, and if you think it does it’s because either as a guy you never had to deal with it, or for some reason your experiences were sheltered.

You know what days *I* remember?

I remember being told no matter how well I rolled, my female D&D fighter could not, as a matter of the *rules* be as strong as a man. Another player could decide his 13-year-old boy PC had a 18/00 Strength because he was magically blessed, but as a female character I *couldn’t*.

I remember bringing in a new character and being told they’d pick me up at the next village, and my background would be randomly rolled for. And do you know what was rolled? Harlot. And then I had to see what KIND of harlot. But, I was assured, this was totally fair. Because I might end up being a pimp, which would mean I was a male character.

But no, I was a wanton wench.

I remember not being ABLE to find a figure for a female warrior who didn’t have her tits, ass, thighs, or all of the above exposed. I remember being shown an editorial in Dragon Magazine where Kim Mohan *admitted* that sexualization in female miniatures was a problem, but claimed the Strength cap wasn’t “something any reasonable person could argue with” … AND didn’t offer any suggestions on how to deal with either issue.

I remember being told that since my magic-user’s level title for the next level was “sorcerer,” and not “sorceress,” and there was NO evidence in the rules of female sorcerers, I could NOT gain that level.

These were the people who TAUGHT me to role-play. And yeah that last argument is stupid, but I had NO WAY of knowing that. I mean there were racial caps for classes, and a Strength cap for gender, so why wouldn’t I accept a gender cap for classes?

Those days sucked. Roleplaying was so great a thrill I wanted to do it anyway. It wasn’t until one of the toads I played with physically assaulted me I left that group, because I was young and impressionable and they had LOTS of evidence that was just How the Game Was Played.

Never, EVER think that HOW a company describes things, presents itself, covers issue of gender and sexual orientation in the rules, and comports itself with customers doesn’t have a MAJOR impact on the culture of people playing the game.

TSR, and then WotC, had a LONG history of showing that women are second-class PCs at best, and mostly exist as sex objects to cling to the thighs of Conan-like heroes. Played by Boys. Gary Gygaz once said that women’s Brains are “Wired Differently,” and that’s why they just aren’t interested in rpgs. Of course that attitude impacted how woman were portrayed, and thus how a lot of players and DMs played.

It’s NOT that “All Cheesecake is Bad.” I’m not claiming you can’t have sexy character and nods to pulp – you just have to have them for both genders, and you have to have more than that. You have to show a RANGE of characters, male and female, spellcaster and warrior, preferable in every product but absolutely in the core rules.

Paizo and Pathfinder do a MUCH better job of that than anything WotC did before 5e (and 5e is too new to fairly judge either way). And so yeah, it is NO surprise to me when I can have fun with every Pathfinder group I ever meet, and get inappropriately harassed by about a third of the MTG and D&D groups I encounter.

So yeah, this stuff matters. It has ALWAYS mattered. And we NEED it in order to allow EVERYONE to “all have fun.”

S.J.Mess Rant

Okay, to everyone hating on Sarah, please read this and get your facts straight.

Emrys and Malakai are a happy gay couple with an adorable adopted son in the Throne of Glass series. I know they are more of side characters but at least Sarah is trying to include some diversity. We asked for diversity and she gave it to us.

The Morrigan is a character in the A Court of Thorns and Roses Series who is romantically lesbian and sexually enjoys being with both sexes.

There is a place mentioned called Xian where three characters are from, the High Lord of Day, Amren, and Nuan, who crafted Lucien’s metal eye and the cure for the faebane. Characters from Xian and the Day Court would be Asian.

There is also Helion, High Lord of the Day Court, who is black, and would probably be of African descent.

Lucien, Helion’s son, would be biracial. With darker skin and red hair. Anyone portraying him as white would do so on their own terms.

The Illyrian people can be portrayed as any ethnicity with dark hair and dark skin, it is up to the reader to interpret that. Several main characters are Illyrian. I, being Latina, like to think of them as Hispanic.

When you hate on Sarah, you make her seem like she is incapable of making mistakes or changing her books. This does both her fandom and her a disservice.

No matter how many books she shares with us, they are still hers. I was fucking pissed when she killed Nehemia and Sorscha because not only were they strong women of color, they were beautiful people. But when I was pissed I did not take to social media spouting insults and hatred at Sarah and the people who like her. Because even if I am angry, these are still Sarah’s books. They are first and foremost Sarah’s characters. She is allowed to kill them. She began writing, and is writing for herself and these characters. She does not have to share these books with us. She does not have to consider what we ask for. She doesn’t owe us that. She tells the character’s stories and we are along for the ride. Unless you have secretly been writing the books this whole time and Sarah is just a front, please don’t think you know what’s best for the series.

You may continue hating now but do it with this knowledge please.

Completed Kdramas.

Kdramas I’ve completed *In order of how I watched them!* and how I rate them..chat me up about ANY drama listed, or recommend more! :) **SOME CONTAIN SLIGHT SPOILERS!**

1. Strong Woman Do Bong Soon– 10/10 **This was my introduction to the amazing world of kdrama, and oh boy did it hook me!! The chemistry between Bo Young and Hyung Sik will forever be etched into my brain!

2. The Heirs– 8/10 **The most compelling thing in this show for me was Kim Woo Bin.  This was my first intro to second male lead syndrome.

3. Hwarang– 7/10 **Not gonna lie, started this because of Kim Taehyung, and happily finished it because the drama brought more than I expected.  It was slow in places, but wrapped up well.

4. High Society– 5/10 ** Not my cup of tea to be honest…I much preferred the second leads’ relationship over the first leads’.  Even Park Hyungsik wasn’t enough to keep me enthralled…this was a drama I completed just to get it over with.

5. Oh My Ghostess– 10/10. PARK BO YOUNG IS DAEBAK! I seriously love this woman…she was able to portray two distinct personality types, sometimes nearly simultaneously. Also, Jo Jung-suk as Chef Kang made my heart race!

6. Healer– 9/10 ** This would have gotten a ten had they wrapped up the loose ends a little better, alas, they did not…Also, this was my introduction to Ji Chang Wook.  His character is just amazing and JCW depicts him so well!

7. Emergency Couple– 10/10 **This is still one of my favorites.  I liked the progression between Chang Min and Jin Hee, and how it wasn’t an immediate reconciliation when they met back up.  They both had themselves to find and were mature (most of the time) about giving eachother the space needed to make it work.

8. Weight-lifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo– 10/10. **I loved everything about this drama. The story line, the actors, the chemistry between the leads, and I really loved Ji Il-joo as Joo-hyuk’s best friend :)

9. She Was Pretty 7/10 ** CHOI SI-WON!!! Kim Shin Hyeok is my favorite character in all of dramaland…unfortunately he was second male lead, and my favorite part about the drama.  All of the actors portrayed their characters well, I just didn’t connect with many of them throughout the whole show.

10. Fated to Love You 8/10 ** There were times when Gun was literally too much to handle..Also, episode 12 made me take a break from kdramas for a while and reflect on my life choice to become addicted to something like kdramas.  Before this episode I realized that I really was spoiled in the shows I watched not having scenes that literally made my heart feel constricted the way this one did.

11. To the Beautiful You– 7/10 ** I liked the show overall, but thought that Sulli would never pass as a male… to me she still screamed female while dressed and living as a male. Kang Ha-Neul was the shinning point for me :)

12. Angel Eyes– 7/10 ** KANG HA-NEUL! :)  The show was predictable at times which made it kind of drag on in places, and the female lead was frustrating af, but I enjoyed it overall.  Although the teenage years were only in a few episodes (and then some flashbacks) I think the pairing was much more endearing than the adults.  I also really liked the chemistry between Kang Ha-nuel and Name Ji-Hyun

13. Doctors– 6/10** Not my cup of tea….Park Shin Hye was great, but it was kind of boring to me..The guest starring of Ji Soo was nice though :)

14. Shopping King Louie– 9/10. I LOVED this drama.  I thought the character of Louie was endearing in how he didn’t understand much of the outside world (being rich and all) and relied on Bok-Shil to basically survive. Again, loved Nam Ji-Hyun in this.

15. Pinocchio– 8/10 **HELLO LEE JONG-SUK! :) My favorite thing, other than watching the evolution of the leads’ relationship was watching the relationship between Dal-po and his brother, Jae-Myung.  I think the character development of Jae-Myung felt the most real to me.  How circumstances turned him into a killer and how he handled the aftermath of that, letting Dal-po settle things legally.

16. W (Two Worlds)– 8/10 **Back to back Lee Jong-Suk.  I liked the complexities of this drama. There were times when I really wasn’t sure what was coming next and the suspense kept me returning to my computer as soon as possible to finish it!

17. Marriage, Not Dating– 8/10 **Not gonna lie, the more I watching this, the more I WANTED To hate it, but I didn’t.  I’m not sure why I wanted to…I think it became semi predictable and some of the characters were hard pills to swallow, but damnit I was rooting so hard for Gi-tae and Jang-mi until the very end.

18. Love From Another Star 10/10 ** Let me count the ways…This was so endearing, and funny, and melancholic, and in places, SO FUCKING SAD. I will happily admit I cried, and when I inevitably watch it again, I’ll cry again.

hey you wanna know how low the bar is for a fat character to be inspiring to a fat kid

one of my faves who made me feel better when i was young was coop from megas xlr and like

dude literally owned the title “lord of the large pants” because he could just dump enormous volumes of hotdogs into his body, dude literally spent an entire episode in search of a particularly sugary flavor of gas station slushie

but he was cool and funny and saved the world on the daily and his friends only judged him *a little* for his wacky food-related behaviors and

the bar is so FUCKING low for what will make you feel better when youre a fat kid that

something like that, a character like him

was good enough

was even exciting, because for once the fat character was not only the lead character, but the fat character was shown to be not contemptible just by virtue of being fat and liking to eat

so believe me when i tell you that fat characters are like, always important to fat kids, and even a little splash of positivity means everything in a world where every other fat character they see is just someone whose habits and/or body shape is just something the other characters begrudgingly tolerate

cooper cooplowski was not a revolutionary fat character who was designed to uplift fat kids specifically

he was fat and kind of a mess and he dressed like guy fieri in a nirvana cover band

but just by virtue of making him pilot an 80 foot tall robot, by having him BY DEFAULT make heroic decisions, even if he didn’t phrase them heroically

they did portray a fat character as having relatable moral convictions, as being someone who inspired awe, as someone whose accomplishments were not tarnished by being fat

and i think more than that, in a really tacky way, they put a lot of effort into making a fat character cool

and thats really special honestly, even if the bar is that low

what i wanna know is when is it gonna happen again

My Padma and Parvati for this week’s Harry Potter Design Challenge! When I looked up their book descriptions pretty much all you get is they were called the prettiest girls in their grade, they wore their hair in braids, and apparently they wore silver “P” necklaces (I don’t particularly remember this part but Oh well). You never hear much about Padma but Parvati always came off as a giggly fun loving girl to me. Although they were identical twins I didn’t want to just essentially make them the same person as twins are often portrayed as in media. I figured since they were sorted into different houses they must have very different distinct personalities. So I decided to make Padma a bit more serious and preppy than her sister. Hope you enjoy!! :D (PS since I went with book descriptions for characters I also went with the book version of the ravenclaw colors: blue and bronze instead of blue and silver like the movies.)

black_bird_89 Most people will look at this Photo & think “Cool! She got to meet two of her favorite Characters from her Favorite Tv Show.” but for me it’s soo much more.
Growing up us African American Women/Girls didn’t have characters like Iris West. We were always portrayed as a Slut, Bully, Ghetto, Best Friend or Love Interest for the Other Black Character. Candice’s portrayal of Iris West is more than just a Damsel In Distress. For Brooklyn to see her on Tv honestly speaks volumes. Such a Blessing to meet them!!🙏💖⚡

For real tho, all the Audrey Horne and Shelly Johnson “fans” who never appreciated how much abuse and neglect their characters went through on the original show and only liked them because they were sexy sassy teenagers, who’ve now decided they don’t like them anymore now that they’re being realistically portrayed as well-meaning but deeply flawed middle-aged women who have been hurt so many times that they’ve unfortunately succumbed to being trapped in the same ongoing cycles of abuse and self-destruction that have plagued them their entire lives and are now living out their trauma in a tragic and bitter way rather than an inappropriately fanservice-y and titillating way like they did when they were teenagers: y'all can suck my metaphorical left nut

Okay gang, bear with me because I'm going to talk to you about a glorious dumpster fire of a Shakespeare play called Henry VI part 3 and why I love it.

This is a boring sounding title, but it is SO NOT a boring play.

This thing is almost unperformable. It has more battle scenes than any other Shakespeare play. It has the longest soliloquy in all of his plays. It has over 40 characters in it. Many of them die. The characters and events depicted in it are indecipherable to American audiences, who probably have never really learned about the Wars of the Roses. The same two guys keep getting crowned and kicked off the throne in dizzying succession. I just saw a fittingly wack rendition of it performed in a pub with actors openly drinking beer onstage and changing name tags and hats to indicate which characters they were playing, which I think is fully in the spirit of the play, and I want to talk about why I’m so fond of it.

Anyway, you all know that I am obsessed with Richard III. I directed the play. I wrote a NaNoWriMo novel based on it. WELL, that play makes a whole lot more sense, and several of the characters have more depth, if you’ve also read Henry VI part 3… like, yeah, there are two other parts before that, but if your aim is understanding Richard’s role in the story, this play is the ‘villain origin story’ that brings him to the point of his famous opening speech in the play named after him– the speech in which he plots to murder his way to the throne, eliminating any family members standing in his way without a second thought.

But near the very end of this very raw, rough early play of his, Shakespeare manages to condense Richard’s self-loathing, rejection of family ties, and motivation into a few short lines that, in my mind, are even more effective than the entire 'Now is the winter of our discontent’ speech:

“Then, since the heavens have shaped my body so,
Let hell make crook’d my mind to answer it.
I have no brother, I am like no brother;
And this word 'love,’ which graybeards call divine,
Be resident in men like one another
And not in me: I am myself alone.”

The 'rejection of family’ thing is especially powerful because, having read and seen Richard III first, I had certain preconceived notions of Richard’s family dynamics. I had assumed that Richard was treated like an outcast and inferior by his family because of his deformity, and that his older brothers, Edward and George, were portrayed as virtuous compared to him, based on the way characters talk about them in Richard III.

Instead, when Richard bursts onstage in the first scene of 3HenryVI, it is to impress his father with a trophy of war, who compliments him and says “Richard hath best deserved of all my sons.” His older brother, Edward, who will later become Edward IV, brought a comparatively meager relic of war, and George isn’t even there.

Throughout the early scenes, Richard consistently impresses us with his bravery, wit, daring, and combat skill. He is… cool. Compared to him, Edward looks weak, whiny, unprincipled, useless (he gets captured and needs to be rescued by Richard) and a total skeeze who puts his personal life ahead of battles and grants mercy at the wrong times. George looks like a double-crossing, weak-willed, indecisive, and materialistic crybaby who barely appears in battle. In such a time of brutal war, Richard’s incredibly cruel and violent personality makes him look HEROIC. The three brothers may disagree, but they also support each other and seem to care about each other. Richard is in no way excluded- he leads the way. All three brothers equally participate in the murder of the Lancaster crown prince– one that Richard is blamed for in “Richard III.” He claims the prince was slain by Edward, which is played as a lie, but if you look at Henry VI part 3, Edward did strike first. This makes more sense as to why all three brothers are cursed by Queen Margaret in the next play.

And what’s more, nobody in his family ever draws attention to his disability, even when squabbling with him. It’s only the people on the opposing side of the battle who bring it up, constantly taunting him for his deformities. If he comes to see himself as an irredeemable monster whose body reflects his mind, it wasn’t brought on by how his family treated him. There’s sadistic behavior on both sides of the war, but Richard is the only major player who is physically unhandsome, and therefore the easiest to demonize.

We also see a young Richard deal with serious trauma from the horrifying murder of his brother Rutland (portrayed as a little brother and a child in the play, though he was older in history) and his father. When he gets revenge on the people who did these deeds, we feel good about it. He even angrily confronts the man who did it for being a murderer of children– ironic if you know what he’s going to get up to in the future.

It’s when his brother Edward becomes king that the real divide happens between the York brothers. The bond of war that united them instead divides them, as Edward and George become preoccupied with matters of love, sex, and money, and Richard realizes that the world holds no potential pleasures for him except for angling for power.

Killing is all he is really good at– he’s been fighting since he was a kid and has been praised for it, but those qualities that made him an admirable warrior are distasteful in peacetime, especially when civil wars have been tentatively smoothed over. In court, the disfigured little brother has no real place to shine. He was a kid who was totally desensitized to violence very, very early in life.

Also? Queen Margaret, who I played in Richard III, has a much bigger role in this play– and much more sadistic than she appears in Richard III. She’s SUPER vile, and the only character to appear in all four Wars of the Roses plays. And she wears armor and commands armies. I love her. At one point, a character says to her incompetent king husband, “I would your highness would depart the field: The queen hath best success when you are absent.” It’s a pity Shakespeare used his most formidable female character this early in his career.

This play is totally wack, but there’s so much great stuff going on with it, and I really urge people to read it if they’re interested in Richard III. The Hollow Crown did a shortened version of it (Though it’s called Part 2 there), and I really want to see the American Shakespeare Center’s production of it this fall.

Does Supernatural Have a Problem with Representation and Diversity: A Mathematical Study

At the end of season 12, another fan favorite minority character, Eileen, was killed. This has come in a long line of favorite SPN characters who were people of color, women, lgbt+, and/or disabled being killed seemingly before their time. This, like other instances with such characters like Kevin and Charlie, sparked outrage from many fans. Some called the move sexist and ableist. Many said it was not inherently bad that Eileen died, but the way it was done was disgraceful and unworthy of such a beloved character. Other fans fought back against these claims, citing that everyone dies in supernatural and that no one should be immune. Besides, others said, with more representation, shouldn’t that mean more death?

But is there actually more representation? And is the death count equal? Are we being persuaded by biases and personal agendas?

After the season 12 finale, I’ve set out to see if there is a quantifiable difference in representation, huge differences that can be backed up by numbers and not just perception. Much of this is going to cover gender and race, as those are the easiest diversity angles to notice, but I will touch upon other areas. This information was not compiled to confirm any set of biases, but instead answer these questions at the heart of the debate and anger. Some of the information complied is quite obvious, but having set numbers is vital in these debates.

The rest, which is a lot, is under the cut:

but after steven pranked lars didn't he feel really bad for hurting him? i mean it was nice when he seemed like an actual character who made mistakes

Back in the day Steven was portrayed as a young naive child who had a lot to learn. He made mistakes and were called out on them. When it came to the crystal gems he was treated as a young rookie who was heavily protected in dangerous situations. Now it feels as if he is the leader of the cg’s and the other gems are just tagging along behind him. I mean in Room for Ruby Garnet just said “Steven do your thing” (Something like that) and just walked of with out doing anything it feels like the cg’s are NPC’s that just stand there and wait for the main character to interact with them. I know Steven is the main character but in the older times the show was about Steven learning amongst the gems about his gem half. A couple years later it seems like the CG’s feel like hes an expert now even though he is literally just a 14 year old child. I mean yeah he has more control of his powers but no matter how strong he is he is still just a young boy who still has much to learn. Why didn’t the CG’s who were meant to be Bismuth’s closest friends protest even a little bit about bubbling her away forever after Steven proposed it. Why are these characters who have been around for how many thousands of years blindly following around a 14 year old boy? I know I went on a bit but it is something that has been bugging me for quite a bit

my main gripe about she//ith and shi//dge and pretty much any shiro x paladin ship is that it carries unfortunate implications about shiro as a person, so let’s get a few things straight first:

shiro is a grown ass man. you can’t tell me that shiro, this probably six foot whatever and fully grown male is a teenager (who, even a year prior to the events of the series, looks nothing like the rest of the paladins, as well as the cadets of galaxy garrison), regardless of what promotional materials may say

you can see here that shiro was an instructor at galaxy garrison:

his uniform pre-abduction looks a lot like the ones that instructors at galaxy garrison wear:

yall see that? instructor’s lounge.

so what does this all mean???

shiro is a grown man who was working at galaxy garrison as an instructor prior to the galra abduction. this is a working man who was apparently held in high regard back at galaxy garrison (quote, lance: “that’s shiro, the pilot of the kerberos mission! that guy’s my hero!”), and it doesn’t seem like it would be in character (or make sense) for a well-respected man like shiro to have romantic relationships with his students, especially minors.

in the case that keith, lance, hunk, etc. were at least eighteen (and therefore legal, if barely), it still doesn’t excuse the fact that a relationship between a student and their teacher is still unprofessional. it paints shiro, the leader of the paladins, the glue that keeps them all grounded, and someone that is highly respected by his community, in a very unfavorable light if he were portrayed as someone who goes after minors, and that isn’t the kind of character i think dreamworks would like to portray in a cartoon directed towards adolescents and younger.

i know people like to portray shiro x paladin ships as pure and cute and whatever else, but there are those that don’t. we don’t exist in a vacuum, and neither does modern media. i’m not trying to attack any of you shippers out there, but i believe it’s important to make everyone aware of why such content seems gross and disgusting to those that don’t ship shiro with the paladins, including myself.
